Burnley 1 Everton 0

Goals: Jeff Hendrick (£5.4m)

Assists: Ashley Westwood (£5.4m)

Bonus Points: James Tarkowski x3 (£5.0m), Hendrick x3, Nick Pope (£4.6m) x1

A Jeff Hendrick (£5.4m) goal earned Burnley a hard-fought three points as Everton slumped to a fourth straight Premier League defeat.

The Republic of Ireland international volleyed home an Ashley Westwood (£5.4m) corner to underline the Toffees’ inability to defend set-pieces.

That was the sixth time Everton have conceded from set-plays this season, a league-high figure, and once again highlighted manager Marco Silva’s Achilles heel – his time in England has now involved 45 goals allowed from dead-ball situations.

Hendrick scored for Burnley as Barnes (left) blanked once again

The beleaguered boss was not helped by the dismissal of Seamus Coleman (£5.4m) for two yellow cards; one either side of the break. The right-back will now miss the Gameweek 9 visit of West Ham to Goodison Park.

The first came for a late challenge on Erik Pieters (£4.8m) which left the Clarets defender in need of treatment on his ankle. He never truly recovered and was taken off after 54 minutes, thus denying his 12.8% ownership any vital clean sheet points.

Only goalkeeper Nick Pope (£4.6m and 14.9%) is owned by more Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers among Burnley’s players, but the combination of this week’s international break and boss Sean Dyche’s post-match assessment suggests Pieters should be okay for Gameweek 9 in a fortnight’s time.

“I am waiting to find out the exact details, but it is a sore one that is for sure. He has tried to carry on but couldn’t quite finish the game, but hopefully it is not too serious. I will find out more in the next 24 hours.” Sean Dyche

Erik Pieters had to be withdrawn at Turf Moor on Saturday afternoon

Coleman (2.5%) will definitely miss the next fixture through suspension, although it is his fellow full-back Lucas Digne (£6.0m) who remains the bigger concern.

His 22.7% ownership have now endured four straight blanks, having banked consecutive clean sheets at the start of the season and two assists by Gameweek 4.

Digne’s attacking threat has stayed consistent throughout, but the team as a whole have lost their way as an offensive and defensive force, with only two goals scored in their current winless run – and a minimum of two conceded in all but one of their last six matches.

Digne owners have had a frustrating time with the Frenchman this season

Not that either side were exactly bristling with danger at Turf Moor.

They managed only 20 attempts between them – one fewer than Norwich City had on their way to a 5-1 beating by Aston Villa.

Hendrick’s goal was one of only five shots on target in the whole match, with Gylfi Sigurdsson (£7.6m) and Richarlison (£7.9m) both forcing saves from Pope, while Alex Iwobi (£5.9m) should have done better from close range, only for his tame attempt to be blocked by Matthew Lowton (£4.5m).

Sigurdsson was substituted in the 59th minute as a result of Coleman’s red card

It was no surprise, then, that members of Burnley’s backline brought in most of the bonus points, with Pope earning one and James Tarkowski (£5.0m) sharing the maximum award with match-winner Hendrick.

The centre-half topped the clearances, blocks and interceptions chart (CBI) with 11 and won six of eight aerial duels.

That helped the Clarets to a second clean sheet in three outings, and three out of four home matches, ahead of a schedule that suggests more of the same in the medium term.

Nick Pope and his Burnley colleagues are providing regular defensive returns in home matches this season

Burnley might be hard pushed to keep out both Leicester City and Chelsea after the international break, but the four games that follow – away at Sheffield United and Watford and home to West Ham and Crystal Palace – look much more promising.

And if Pieters’ injury proves to be something more serious, his replacement against Everton, Charlie Taylor (£4.2m), offers a low-cost way into an efficient defensive unit.

Such efficiency is less pronounced up front, however,

Midfielder Johann Berg Gudmundsson (£5.9m) led the team with three attempts on Saturday – a total that strike partners Ashley Barnes (£6.5m) and Chris Wood (£6.2m) could only muster between them.

Barnes is now without a goal in

Barnes, in particular, has gone completely off the boil since scoring four times in the first three matches of the season.

His ownership peaked at 760,000+ managers in Gameweek 5 as a result, but that’s now down to less than half a million, or 6.9%, and it’s easy to see why when you take a look at his output during his five-match drought.

He has led the way for attempts, with ten, over that period, but only one of those was on target. During the same spell, Wood (1.3%) has managed three goals from nine shots, five of which were on target.

We recently did some research into Burnley’s two main strikers to see which had the better Fantasy potential, CLICK HERE for the results.

Barnes and Pieters now find themselves in the top 30 for sales ahead of Gameweek 9, with Digne in the top ten.

Fantasy managers may still have a hard time giving their Everton assets the red card in the coming weeks

The temptation to hold on to Everton assets is still just about there, however.

The Toffees have a solid run of fixtures over the next six Gameweeks, with their trickiest task probably a visit from Spurs – a club as deep in the mire as they are at the moment.

Perhaps the key factor in deciding whether to retain Everton players will be the future of their manager.

The international break could be the ideal time for Silva to reset and redirect his players. It could also be a nice long stretch for the board to fire him and find a replacement.

Silva himself was in no doubt as to the importance of Gameweek 9’s visit from West Ham.

“The players know what we are doing but we need results. At this club, we had worse moments than this and we reacted well. We had a fantastic period and showed what we can do. I don’t have doubts about doing that again. We have to stick together to change things and the next one is a must-win game.” – Marco Silva

Unfortunately for him, the Hammers are proving no pushovers on the road this season – they’re unbeaten across their four away days to date.

Burnley XI (4-4-2): Pope; Pieters (C Taylor 55′), Mee, Tarkowski, Lowton; McNeil, Westwood, Hendrick, Gudmundsson (Lennon 84′); A Barnes (Rodriguez 73′), Wood.

Everton XI (4-2-3-1): Pickford; Digne, Mina, Keane, Coleman; Delph, Schneiderlin (A Gomes 84′); Iwobi, Sigurdsson (Sidibé 59′), Richarlison; Calvert-Lewin (Kean 74′).

    Team A (1.9ITB) -------------------------------------Team B (0.0ITB) (-4)*
Robertson SOYUNCU Otamendi Tomori ----- Robertson Otamendi Tomori
Salah Sterling KDB Mount ------------------------ Salah Sterling KDB Mount MADDISON
    Abraham Wilson ------------------------------------- Abraham Wilson
Lundstram DENDONCKER Greenwood ------- Lundstram Greenwood REID

Hope this works, as I'm trying to weigh up the best move.
Team A is VVD to Soyuncu, Team B is VVD, Dendoncker to Reid, Maddison (-4)

Team A allows me to bring move out Otamendi in the future for TAA, or possibly to a fodder to bring in Maddison at a later date.
Team B gets me straight on to the Leicester attacking options, but restricts my team going forwards and costs 4 points.

The other option would be to keep VVD and roll the transfer.

Team A, Team B or VVD?

I don't think it was that hard to understand, I was just trying to provide context.
I reworded it in another post below, but simply put...

      A. Hold VVD, save a transfer
      B. Sell VVD, buy Soyuncu
      C. Sell VVD & Dendoncker, buy Maddison & Reid (-4)

Exactly, I used to think I need to spend all of my funds to make the most of my wildcard but the flexibility of money in the bank tops this. Keep it and it might save you from having to make hits in the future.

Looking for advice whether to hold or pull WC trigger. In decent position 60k OR but some moves to be made

    Pope Heaton
    VVD Digne Ota Tomori Gibson
    Salah kdb Mount Tielemans McGinn
    Auba Pukki King

Obv want TAA, Digne not justifying 6m, Tielemans out, Pukki out, Auba possible enabler to Vardy/Firmino to fund other upgrades, Salah to Mane if he’s ruled out

    Activate or hold?

    1. Bob B
      • 12 Years
      6 years, 9 months ago

Don't think you have too many problems, you've got a lot of flexibility in your team with your rotating keepers and McGinn.
You have good differential options in King and Tielemans, lots of people jumping on Bouremouth and Leicester assets so I don't think removing them is necessary.
You could move Pukki to a fodder like Connolly and upgrade Digne to TAA?
Then you've got funds to upgrade the rest of your team in the future.

Don't think you need to wildcard though, what were your thoughts on moves?

        Thanks Nino
0.1 short of Pukki to Jimenez so likely need another move or 2
I’ll play around with that and hold WC for now

      Hold

    3. AndyCook

Tielemans to 4.5 and Pukki to Vardy/Wilson. If Wilson you could do Digne to Alexander-Arnold too maybe at some point?

    4. AndyCook
      6 years, 9 months ago

I wouldn’t personally wildcard, you might just shuffle the pack and end up with a worse result

      1. AndyCook
        6 years, 9 months ago

You do have money spread all over though and loads on the bench each week

What to do with sterling - is he a good option anymore or does playing on the left limited his appeal?

And with rotation, is he worth 12? Yeah idk, and for the next game guessing palace won’t be pushovers either at home, and considering they beat city last year in Manchester

His stats are not woeful, still gets in good positions and has done well in Europe but does occasionally go missing in a game or two. I’m on the fence too

      1. AndyCook
        6 years, 9 months ago

Thing is though Aubameyang doesn’t have the stats, Aguero is similar to Sterling and Mane and Salah seems a bit much as a pair so given the other options I would keep

Auba is getting the results tho

And you know Aguero will score most games but rotation becomes an issue even more so that he’s fit this year and wants to play CL

I was on Sterling semi-permacap until some minutes ago

I don't like how Pep is playing him now. Wide left, covering the flanks where the LB usually would. I think Pep made this tweak to suit Zinchencko's traits as a natural midfielder, as he's more likely to cut in and make a pass than run to the byline and cross, which Sterling can do better

Keeping Sterling though. I don't expect the tweak to last long term, especially with the other LB options lingering... And Pep does shift Sterling back to his more fruitful FPL position at some points in the game. Just not going to trust with captaincy for GW9. Might be back to him for GWs 10 and 11... Or just stick it on KDB

I hate how Pep's screwed with my "rotating permacap" plan with this tweak 🙁

Maybe mendy will help sterling - just need for the team sheet to align

        1. Ze_Austin
          • 7 Years
          6 years, 9 months ago

          That's the problem

          To cap Sterling, I need:
          1. Mendy fit and starting
          2. Zinch should have started the last game, making him less likely to start
          3. Sterling starting
          4. KDB starting
          5. An opponent that won't park the bus

That's far too many stars aligning for me to trust for 4 GWs in a row with the captaincy. Especially with what Wilson, Tammy and Vardy are doing with consistency. I'd cap Sterling when it feels right again though, which could be as early as GW10

Feel like a player that costs 12 million shouldn’t have so many factors in order to captain.

(RP) What would you do here?

    1 FT 0.0 itb

    Pope
    TAA Soy Tomori
    Sterling KDB Son Mount
    Aguero (C) Abraham Pukki
    ____
    Button; Lundstram Kelly Hayden

I posted some options last time (the classic ABC), but would like to have a fresh set of eyes on how to improve the team. I will mention the least drastic one though: Pope + Pukki -> Gazzaniga + Jimenez -4 (but only if Lloris is out for a while)

    Thanks

I’d sit on your free transfer with a view to swapping Pukki out next week along with Son after Watford

      1. AndyCook
        6 years, 9 months ago

Or if Aguero and Sterling still not doing it could take a -4 at that point and get something like Mane, Maddison, Vardy

        1. FC Hakkebøf
          • 9 Years
          6 years, 9 months ago

Could do Aguero + Pukki +Son -> Auba + Vardy + Mahrez... but would have to do it before Auba rises and for a -8... so that kind of eliminates that option. Priority is to get rid of Pukki as I see it. Not so much Son and Aguero. But one or both will prolly have to make way in order to do so

          1. AndyCook
            6 years, 9 months ago

If you like Mahrez you could get Mahrez and Wilson for Son and Pukki. Son and Pukki to Maddison and Vardy would be the popular move on here I think if you like that. Then you can still always shuffle premiums next week

    On a WC:

    Pope / Button
    TAA / Ota / Tomori / Soyuncu / Rico
    Salah / KdB / Mount / Dendoncker / XXX
    Vardy / Abraham / XXX

    A - Wilson and 8.5 for a mid
    B - Auba and 5.4 for a mid
    C - A shake up to something I'm missing

        Good points.

I guess it's Auba and KdB or Wilson and one of the "cheaper" city attackers with KdB.

I just think with the fixtures Auba could be great value over Kun/Sterling. But then again SHU, CRY, WOL and LEI aren't the easiest on current forms and you'd have to expect Pep to start being more settled with starting Sterling and Kun to get the league form more stable.

Yer, I look at the Arsnal fixtures and I see good defensive teams so it puts me off of Auba.

I'm looking at the Kun Razza and KDB treble up. Looking at their games it maybe worth the rotation risk and leaves money in mid or attack to go back to pool after their tough run. It's important to remember price points too on a wc
