Jurgen Klopp has made an immediate return to 4-3-3 for Liverpool’s Gameweek 7 meeting with West Ham United.

The Reds’ boss experimented with Diogo Jota (£6.3m) joining a 4-2-3-1 formation in the Gameweek 6 win over Sheffield United but ran into some supply problems on the right-hand side of the pitch.

Despite netting against the Blades, the former Wolves man drops back to the bench today, allowing Mohamed Salah (£12.4m) to return to the right-hand side of the front-three, joined there by usual suspects Sadio Mané (£12.0m) and Roberto Firmino (£9.3m).

Of particular interest is the fact that Klopp has turned to Nathaniel Phillips (£4.0m) as the solution to his current centre-back problem, pairing him with Joe Gomez (£5.4m).

Virgil van Dijk (£6.3m) and Fabinho (£5.5m) remain long-term absentee while Joel Matip (£5.4m) also misses out. Therefore, Phillips has the potential to string together a run of starts if he can impress tonight.

There had been some pre-match rumours in the press that Andrew Robertson (£7.1m) would feature at centre-back but Klopp’s decision to trust Phillips means he remains at left-back.

Meanwhile, David Moyes has selected Sebastien Haller (£6.1m) to lead the West Ham attack in the absence of Michail Antonio (£6.2m), who is out for at least a month with a hamstring problem.

Jarrod Bowen (£6.3m) and Pablo Fornals (£6.4m) support the attack from advanced midfield, while Vladimir Coufal (£4.5m) and Arthur Masuaku (£4.5m) are the wing-backs in a 3-4-2-1 formation once again.

Liverpool XI (4-3-3): Alisson; Robertson, Gomez, N Phillips, Alexander-Arnold; C Jones, Wijnaldum, J Henderson; Mané, Firmino, Salah.

West Ham United XI (3-4-2-1): Fabianski; Cresswell, Ogbonna, Balbuena; Masuaku, Soucek, Rice, Coufal; Fornals, Haller, Bowen.

There are plenty of them...he’s just the one in the spotlight currently. They all do it and it’s disgusting, he was kicked but no flip needed, he saw the opportunity and took it.

The only way this stops is if they start giving cards for diving more regularly. Won’t fix this situation per say but it will make players thing twice before throwing themselves to the ground

      1. @persecuted_by_mods
        5 years, 8 months ago

The only way it stops is if they give penalties when attackers stay on their feet, which they never do. You can be fouled and impeded without going down but refs never give it, not blaming attackers for that

Could use some thoughts from FFS:

So my plan was to drop Son > KDB around GW 9/10. But the only way I can do that is if I drop Puli now by 2m to someone like Bowen. But I do like the look of dropping Puli to someone a bit more like Ziyech/Zaha/Mahrez/Havertz/Mount but then I'd have to drop either Kane or Robbo instead to afford Son > KDB. So:

    A) Drop Pulisic > Bowen or someone to afford Son > KDB in a few weeks.
    B) Pulisic > Ziyech or someone around that price point, and then drop Kane/Robbo to afford Son > KDB around GW 9/10
    C) KDB isn't worth it and I can pick up a different City asset that isn't Sterling (mahrez/Foden) around GW9/10.

    Thoughts?

Thanks Shooter. It's most likely A for me or I'm dropping Robbo to Cresswell and Puli to Ziyech so I can do Son > KDB

Liverpool form, injuries & City next suggests Robertson out seems logical to free up funds.

Pulisic is having a scan, he's not definitely out for next week, it's TBC.

Not sure about dropping Son. He does have tough fixtures on paper, but potentially stronger opponents that won't park the bus may suit him.

Other question is who you would want / got?

Chilwell, Cresswell, could be decent transfers for Robertson.

With CL midweek & 6 more PL games to play, let the dust settle & see how things look.

For me it's down to what formation Hammers continue playing. If they stick to 5 at the back, then Coufal. If they revert to 4 at the back, then Creswell given his better crossing ability combined with getting a lot more forward.

As Salah owner, I have haveto admit he went down easily, but it was still a kick and a pen. Westham put 11 men behind the ball, and think players like Salah won't take the slightest opportunity to go down. It's not the best thing to do, but in this case, Westham deserved it for their boring over defending football.
