Kevin De Bruyne (£11.7m) is proving to be a very effective differential among the top 10,000 Fantasy Premier League managers.

The Belgian’s latest double-figure haul, the second in as many Gameweeks, could cause some restructuring at this level, especially with Manchester City facing West Bromwich Albion (home), Southampton (away) and Newcastle (home) between now and Gameweek 15.

The crux of De Bruyne’s appeal is the fact that despite relatively low ownership among the top 10k, he has quickly become a reliable and powerful captain candidate.

Manchester City’s number 17 was the most skippered at this level for Gameweek 11, earning the backing of 24.6% ahead of a home meeting with Fulham.

Such support is sure to be welcome for his owners, just low enough to turn a 28-point haul into a significant green arrow.

These managers were helped, of course, by Bruno Fernandes (£10.9m), the best of the rest in terms of captaincy, scoring only seven points at West Ham.

There was, arguably, some fortune, or lack thereof depending on your view, in the Manchester United man’s exploits though.

He played just 45 minutes after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer benched him at West Ham but his man-of-the-match performance in the second half realistically should have resulted in at least three assists, not one.

De Bruyne captainers will have one eye over their shoulder at this point too as Harry Kane (11.9%), Jamie Vardy (11.2%) and Mohamed Salah (9.7%) are yet to play in Gameweek 11, facing Arsenal, Sheffield United and Wolves respectively on Sunday.

As you can see, De Bruyne is not even among the top-five most-owned midfielders among the top 10k for Gameweek 11, although we do expect that to change in the near future.

Unsurprisingly, Jack Grealish (£7.7m) saw his ownership at this level drop by 10.4 percentage points between Gameweeks 10 and 11, influenced, of course by Aston Villa’s meeting with Newcastle suffering a coronavirus (COVID-19) postponement.

Following a double-figure haul against Southampton, Fernandes was the most popular midfielder in the transfer market for the top 10k, as he displaced Son Heung-min (£9.5m) as the most fashionable in this position.

Enjoying an ownership rise of 10.6 percentage points, he is now owned by 72.4% at this level.

Can Diogo Jota (£6.9m) cover the attacking threat of Salah this season? That’s the question bandied around the Fantasy community this week and it looks as if the top 10k have given us their answer following the Gameweek 11 deadline.

For the first time in 2020/21, the former Wolves man has earned more backers in the top 10k than his Egyptian colleague.

48.7% of them now own Jota, while only 31.7% are in possession of Salah.

With Newcastle’s trip to Aston Villa removed from Gameweek 11 (at the time of writing), the Free Hit ended up as the most popular chip among the top 10k FPL managers this weekend.

That is no surprise considering Emiliano Martínez (£4.8m) sits in 24.5% of squads at this level and 53.7% are holding onto Grealish.

4.3% of the top 10k used the Free Hit this week, while 2.9% opted to fix their postponement-related problems with a Wildcard.

Curiously, De Bruyne was not the most popular midfielder in top 10k Free Hit squads, selected only by 56.6% of these.

That said, he was still the most fashionable Manchester City option with Mahrez appearing in 47.1% of these squads.

Instead, Fernandes (76.4%) and Son (60.1%) were both chosen by more top 10k Free Hit managers than De Bruyne for Gameweek 11.

These squads also highlight the feeling of futility in terms of predicting Guardiola’s rotation policy.

Given João Cancelo‘s (£5.5m) apparent loss of favour in the manager’s mind, 35.1% of these Free Hitting managers chose Kyle Walker (£6.2m) as their Manchester City defender for Gameweek 11, only to see him miss out on a place in the matchday squad entirely.

Those who Wildcarded largely built their squads in line with the general top 10k template with some key differences.

De Bruyne was chosen by just over half of these managers, Salah was not among the top-five midfielders and roughly 60% of them went for Son and Jota respectively.

Lessons learned from FPL Gameweek 11

This is a weird season where you're punished for moving early because of COVID/injuries but also punished for not moving fast enough. I think the solution is to wait until Friday if you can, but then take decisive hits to remove weak players.

Doing Foden > Jota -4 two weeks ago ahead of Leicester game on Saturday morning might actually be the best transfer I've made so far.

    Kelleher
    Neco Fabinho Matip Robertson
    Henderson Gini Curt
    Salah Bobby Mane

That's exactly the lineup I expect.

Jota has started 3 games in a row. He could well be due a rest.

Since I brought Zouma in he's gotten exactly the same number of points as Chilwell for almost 1m less. I'm quite pleased with the purchase. He has exceeded expectations for sure.

Technically not true. Chilwell got a bunch of bonus but in terms of actual returns (CS + goals), they are the same.

Seen his price increase & help my team value, but when Chelsea get a CS, he's behind James & Chilwell for baps
Personally think James is probably the best Chelsea pick

This. Was glad Zouma outscored James.
I reckon at end of season, it will be fairly on even between them, as I reckon James will lose a game or two to Azpi.

Only saw the highlights so was wondering if anyone could share some insights on sterling's performance. Obviously happy with the goal and assist but wondering whether he's a hold now or should I look to move him on to salah / Bruno? Kane downgrade for one of those 2 is another option if I keep sterling

He looked much better than prior to his benching last week, though KDB is the man to own from City for sure. Think rotation could be an issue if he fails to perform week in week out

Spurs fixtures are actually decent. People were going on about their fixtures weeks ago and since then they've beaten City and kept a clean sheet away to Chelsea.

Leicester away being a 4/5 on the FDR is laughable. They've lost to Fulham, Villa and West Ham at home already this season.

All in the Members area, pretty self explanatory.
He got 6 points for a goal, did very little outside the winning goal.

Defenders get the least baps for goals. Defenders 12, mid 18 and strikers 24.

    Martinez
    Robertson Chilwell Dallas
    KDB Bruno Son Grealish Jota
    Kane Bamford
    (Forster Lamptey Brewster Ferguson)
    2FT 0.2m ITB

Early days, but kinda regret not replacing Martinez last round, not really sure what to do with my FT. Any suggestions?

I saved a FT in case I did want him, but not sure if it's worth it in my case. Bruno and KDB have some good games after GW12 and I'd have to sell both Son and Kane to afford him otherwise.

To do the hokey cokey with Salah or not - some thoughts

Fulham have looked better the last 2 weeks. Beat Leiecester and kept it a respectable scoreline against City. I like many others now have Jota so there is some 'cover' there if you want to use that word. Salah's stats haven't been that great over the past 4 weeks and whilst he has scored well this season he hasn't looked like a must have IMO. Obviously he was earlier on because of the lack of other premium performers but now there are more options again.

Now that they have Jota too there's also now the risk of rotation. Salah will almost certainly get rested at some point and it could easily be at Fulham. Obviously that's no problem if you plan on holding him but it's a risk if you're doing a one week punt on him.

The "only" thing going that I can see so far for bringing him in this next GW is that there isn't a premium captain option outside Salah. KDB, Kane and Jota are the 3 best options in my team so far and all have some pitfalls for this week - Jota - maybe could be due a rest too but is less explosive than Salah. City have United and Spurs are away to Palace who are tough to break down until post 80 mins.

City had chances though. Could have been 5 whether that’s down to Fulham being poor or City being overwhelmingly good is the question.

I think slicing down the sample size to Fulham's last two weeks and Salah's last 4 weeks is a mistake. Why should the last ~month's worth of fixtures be more predictive than 3 years of evidence that Salah is good and Fulham's defense is not? Salah could easily blank, any player in any form in any fixture could, but it's a good opportunity.

You're right. Liverpool could very conceivably win 5-0 and Salah scores a hattrick and that's the entire reason why it's scary not to own him. I'm not really implying that the small sample size means much but it is something to think about. I guess the other factor that I forgot to mention is that I'm also getting rid of KDB for him which is a risk in of itself.

Yep, I am in a similar spot where it will really hurt to get Salah, either selling Bruno/KDB or selling Vardy for a hit. But I don't think there's any way around that he's a great option this week and it's pretty terrifying not having him.

    Mendy(Forster)
    Chilwell Cancelo Coufal(Lamptey)(Neco)
    Salah KDB Ziyech* Grealish (Riedewald)
    Vardy DCL Watkins

Thinking Ziyech to Jota if Ziyech injury looks serious

Then I can do Vardy, Riedewald to Bruno, Brewster either for a hit in GW13 or for free in GW14

I did Mahrez+Vardy > KDB + Bamford, purely because Bamford allowed me to upgrade my bench with 0.8 left over, I wanted to bring in Giroud but would like to see if he gets regular starts, but if you don’t need to upgrade elsewhere then he’d be an exciting option with Chelsea’s upcoming fixtures

    Martinez - Steer

    Salah - Bruno - Grealish - Jota - Soucek
