Who are the best FPL captain options for Gameweek 2?

Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers are faced with a tough captaincy decision for Gameweek 2.

Mohamed Salah (£12.5m) and Bruno Fernandes (£12.1m) go head-to-head again after huge opening-day hauls, but there are other FPL assets whose cases deserve examining too, including Sadio Mané (£12.0m), Riyad Mahrez (£9.0m) and Son Heung-min (£10.0m).

First, we will assess the fallout of the Gameweek 2 Captain Poll, before then analysing the leading candidates, Rate My Team (RMT) and the Premier Fantasy Tools ratings ahead of Saturday’s 11:00 BST deadline.

THE CAPTAIN POLL

Unsurprisingly, Salah has dominated the vote so far.

The Egyptian midfielder, who produced a goal and two assists last time out, has gained 63.4% of total votes from our users at the time of writing.

Only one other player has garnered more than 10% of votes at this stage, with Manchester United midfielder Fernandes currently in second place, backed by 19.79%.

Mahrez occupies third place with 2.88% of votes, with the top-five list completed by Kevin De Bruyne (£12.0m) and Mane, with 2.3% and 1.54% respectively.

      I'm not worried. There's a chance one of them scores big even though they've looked totally toothless in the last few games, but it's such a lottery picking the right one that I'd rather not spend a FT on it.

    If you believe Bruno is the best captain, why try to convince everyone else, instead of looking forward to the diff hauling? Seems like people are trying to convince themselves, as they are scared of Salah's much higher captaincy.

      I credit this site with helping improve my overall mindset and thought process regarding FPL.

      All I did was share my thought process regarding captaincy this week. I didn't say it was necessarily right nor am I trying to convince people to cap Bruno. Just that this is how I decided and imo that's the most important thing - developing your own way of analyzing the game and feeling secure in making your own decisions.

          I'd say they're both good options and I'm expecting a repeat of GW1 where they both haul. I'm personally going Bruno cuz he tends to get Baps more easily even with just 1 goal while Salah needs at least 2 returns. Less risky.

            I feel people are putting too much emphasis on anfield crowd. Yes it will be important but Liverpool didn’t look that great against Norwich. Man utd looked very good (I’m a Liverpool fan by the way). Salah has a very bad record against Burnley whereas mane has a good record. I do feel Salah will get some points but if Fernandes turns up against Southampton he will easily out score Salah. Man United have had a very good away record for a number of years spanning before covid started. Both will probably end up doing well but I’m going Fernandes

          I’d be very wary of lukaku to be honest. I watch a lot of serie A. The standard not much higher than Bundasliga and he played for the best team in inter Milan. He may do well but may take time to get up to scratch

      I think he's overlooked. Rudiger and T Silva should be first choice, but Azpi could be 3rd CD or RWB. Christensen should be ahead of Chalobah but not nailed.

            That's quite soon, considering we only get 35 FTs per season. I don't want to use 3 of them (minimum) to get him out and in again in 2-3 GWs. I have 3 other City players so would need to sell one first. And maybe he'll feature in GW3 as well? I'm in this situation now, and I think it would put me at a disadvantage to try and align my team with a last week's template instead of hoping I strike lucky with this strategy 🙂
