WEST HAM UNITED 4-1 LEICESTER CITY

  • Goals: Pablo Fornals (£6.0m), Said Benrahma (£6.2m), Michail Antonio x2 (£7.7m)
  • Assists: Benrahma, Antonio, Declan Rice (£5.0m), Vladimir Coufal (£5.0m)
  • Red cards: Ayoze Perez (£6.0m)
  • Bonus: Antonio x3, Benrahma x2, Fornals x1, Rice x1

BENRAHMA AND ANTONIO EXCEL

In a dominant victory for West Ham United over 10-man Leicester City, Michail Antonio (£7.7m) scored two late goals and made another in a stellar solo performance.

Said Benrahma (£6.2m) also impressed, as he scored for the second game in a row and added an assist on his way to another 12-point Fantasy Premier League (FPL) haul.

The Algerian lacked consistency in his debut top-flight campaign, but seems to have gained the trust of manager David Moyes in recent weeks.

“I think Said needed to take stock and settle in and realise he had to be a team player as much as an individual. I think that he had not realised that he is part of a team and we have to do all the right things together and because of that he’s actually getting these goals, he’s making goals, which is what we brought him for.” – David Moyes

Meanwhile, Antonio led the line superbly as he became the Hammers record Premier League goalscorer, and after last nights showing, has now attempted more shots than any other player over the opening two rounds:

A possible Gameweek 3 captaincy shout, then, which we’ll explore in more detail in our Captain Sensible article later this week.

Vladimir Coufal (£5.0m) also deserves a mention, as he picked up his first assist of the season and ended the match with more opposition-half touches (47) than any other player on the pitch.

There is no doubt West Ham benefitted from Leicester being reduced to 10-men last night, but performances so far have been hugely encouraging and their prospects look good ahead of Crystal Palace (h) in Gameweek 3.

ANOTHER BLANK FOR BARNES

Only Manchester City and Manchester United won more points away from home than Leicester City in the Premier League last season, but the Foxes were outplayed in their first game on the road in 2021/22.

Now, Brendan Rodgers will be without Ayoze Perez (£6.0m) as well for three games as a result of his straight red card.

It was a night to forget for Harvey Barnes (£7.0m) too, as the winger failed to register an attempt on goal and was hauled off for Patson Daka (£7.4m) on 64 minutes. However, owners may be content to hold for one more week, given their Gameweek 3 fixture against Norwich City and the fact Perez is suspended.

City were without Jannik Vestergaard (£5.0m) for the clash after the Denmark international picked up a knee injury in training ahead of Monday’s match. Assessing his fitness, Rodgers said:

“Hopefully, he can get back onto the field this week. He was playing in a game in training and just hurt his knee and felt some pain in it. He’s had a couple of scans and it doesn’t show anything too serious. We’re hoping we can get him onto the pitch in the midweek.”

Speaking at full-time, Rodgers also discussed his team’s performance at the London Stadium:

“We’re obviously disappointed with the result. The spirit of the team was really good. We kept fighting. The mentality of the team was really good. With 20 to 25 minutes to go, we were 2-1 [down], and then just as we were about to make the changes to try and make a go for it in the last 20 minutes, we obviously conceded the third.”

We had good possession [early on]. We worked the ball, I just felt that technically, we were too slow on it. We needed to be cleaner in our possession but smoother in our passing, and that would have got us through quicker. It’s something to take forward into the next game.

The first two goals [we conceded] were mistakes. We were in good possession of the ball, but we gave it away. That’s obviously not so good. Then, the other goals, of course, we didn’t defend so well, but it’s also really good play by Michail Antonio. He finishes them really well.”

West Ham XI: Fabianski, Coufal, Dawson, Ogbonna, Cresswell, Rice, Soucek, Bowen, Fornals, Benrahma (Noble 88), Antonio (Yarmolenko 89)

Leicester XI: Schmeichel, Pereira, Amartey, Soyuncu, Thomas, Ndidi, Tielemans, Perez, Maddison (Soumare 81), Barnes (Daka 64), Vardy (Iheanacho 81)

Also got to consider Son's possible knock and whether Kane playing will be a problem - they've spend the whole pre-season and several matches playing one way and now they have to change things around

Given how well The Hammers, and Chelsea look. And how poor Arsenal look I decided on the following

Using my second free transfer Smith Rowe OUT - Benrahma IN last night.

How do Liverpool and Chelsea fit in?
Well I am benching Salah - 'you can't do that!' they roar - yes I can.

I checked Salah's history v Chelsea at most he only ever got one goal v Chelsea at Anfield.
    https://www.transfermarkt.com/mohamed-salah/bilanzdetails/spieler/148455/gegner/631

I can see Chelsea winning to be honest 1-0 they are that good.

    So my team is

    for gw3 is

    Schmiechel (Sanchez)
    -
    Cash-Shaw-Coufal-Cash (Tsmikas Duffy)
    -
Benrahma - Beundia - Barnes - Greenwood (Salah)
    -
    Vardy - Ings - Antonio

I may now likely wildcard gw5 getting ready for Chelsea/Leeds/Wolves influx - with a double pool defence.

    --
I might even do a cheeky -4 gw4 Vardy OUT Lukaku in (2m itb)
And Ings out DCL in and then WC

I honestly think Buendia has a better chance of outscoring Salah - it is why I kept him.
Won't Villa have the majority of possession v Brentford?

I would fancy Salah to return against Chelsea more than I would fancy Buendia to return against anyone, especially a team yet to concede a goal.

Why not sell Salah instead - doubts re gw4 and could always go Bruno for that NEW fixture

I had also checked Salah's history vs Chelsea (on 11v11) and don't fancy him this week
Wondering whether Sterling is worth the one week punt ... home to Arsenal looks a juicy fixture

I have used my two frees already (duffy and benrahma IN) so any more transfers would cost me.
Gw4 team already have problem of three villa and two Leicester.
I assume from reports Liverpool not letting Salah go on international? If he is your Bruno option could be a safe move.
As regards sterling anyone v Arsenal is good even Pukki gw4 mght be a good call! 😀

Mahrez owners what are you thinking ? hold for Arsenal or time to go ?

Also did Son pick up an injury or something ?

I was initially looking at moving Mahrez to Son this week but im not sure now thinking I might look to upgrade Toney to DCL instead and fund it with a Mahrez downgrade or hold off for one more week

    Any thoughts ?

In the same boat.. Was thinking of upgrading to Son and captaining him, now I think I will downgrade him to maybe Raphina and upgrade Toney To Dcl which looks more balanced for my team

Team does look better with DCL and Raph or even a couple other mid options. But like the comment below says Arsenal look so bad right now that Mahrez for another week might be a good hold, will have to think about it some more still.
Also dont know where to use the 2FTs if not for this move.

But I do feel an early move for DCL could be worth it before all the Ings owners move to him next gw, could get a few price rises also

Same dilemma with Mahrez. I'm not convinced he'll start, but likely to get 30 mins to hurt Arsenal. Feels like an unnecessary transfer out with International Break coming, but Son would be a good move if fit.

Have 2FT's & 0.5ITB so thinking a mini-WC right now might well be the best option? Defo want Tsimikas gone with Robbo likely back, DCL is probably gonna rise tonight and want him in over Ings especially with the fact he's on pens and Ings' fixtures turn awful next from next GW!! (if I wait another week I'll likely get priced out by 0.1 at least?). Then there's Veltman who will be dropping soon and also not gtd to be back anytime soon with Duffy performing so well? So...

    Tsimikas, Veltman & Ings > Livramento, Reguilon & DCL for a -4?

    Yay or nay? Thanks.

If i want to do Ings > DCL then yes...that's were i get the 0.1 after buying him at 4.0 and Tsimi's rise last night it allows!! Veltman needs to go and Reguilon is about to rise tonight too, he's by far the best option at the price I think? As above if I wait on Ings > DCL then i'm gonna get priced out and making the move now will put me ahead of the game I think? Ings fixtures from GW4-10 are a big no, no and DCL on pens has a decent run then. I feel it really is a case of 'the early bird catches the worm' in all honesty? I've had a great start and 9k in the world so think these moves might just put me one step ahead even if for an early hit?!! Thanks for your thoughts..nice one.

No, not for-4, ings to dcl, pretty sideways, fixtures yes but ings can score against anyone

Nah, defo want Ings out from 4-10 thanks. Hating those fixtures and Villa looking like they haven't quite gelled yet. Much prefer DCL for his fixture run, can see him scoring double Ings' points in that period tbh, so in my eyes defo worth the -4.

Jumping the gun I think Villa play Brentford and you can bench Tsimikas

Yes I know I can do this but the whole point is if I do is that I am then pricing myself out of the Ings > DCL move!! DCL is gonna rise to 8.2 very soon, probably tonight? Currently on 98.6 on FPL stats, should hit the magic 100 tonight or perhaps at latest tomorrow? I can deal with not having Ings vs Brentford (who've actually looked extremely good defensively first 2 games having not conceded a single to goal to Arsenal or Palace!!)...DCL vs Brighton I like just as much and then it's Ing's god awful fixture run and other peeps are gonna be priced out of DCL, but I will have as moved early?!! Makes sense to me to move now or forever hold my peace?!!

Oh right I see price changes in that case made sense if you have no money itb. Regarding Brentford I feel they were lucky in the two toothless teams they faced so far.

Anyone with Wilson over Antonio. Keep for next game or switch. Can’t decide. Digne going to Dier/Liveramento with 1FT

Got Wilson, Antonio and Ings ... Ings is likely to be sold after gw3 and not sure what's happening with Antonio after IB, so probably sticking with Wilson for a few weeks

Thanks I’ve got 352 Ings and Wilson. Keeping Barnes for this week but likely selling next week. Wilson/Ings only one I can trade for Antonio. Digne downgrade allows it

I've just sold Barnes for Benrahma - luckily my ML leader is the only one who has had both Benni and Antonio up till now. I'd be tempted to swap out Ings and be thankful that he had two returns (both last gasp strikes)

Antonio 35% owned. Seems small considering Shaw is almost at 52%.

It is. He's one of the most transferred-out players. Which is madness, in my book.

Do I upset a dcl ings Antonio front line to bring in lukaku? Have to downgrade midfield?

Next week when Ings' fixtures turn and Kaku's gone past Liverpool.

He normally does but he and Villa haven't exactly looked great, his first goal (and shot) was a last minute penalty and the other was from a long throw (albeit a cracking volley). Only other goal they scored was another penalty.

Benching Ings vs Che and starting him home vs Everton before ditching isn't optimal, but I wouldn't be totally against it if it saves one hit for example.
