We’ve got the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) team news information in our first press conference summary ahead of Gameweek 16 – and it’s a brief round-up to say the least.

Only three pre-match pressers took place on Thursday, involving the managers of Leeds United, Southampton and Watford, while Brentford‘s Thomas Frank faced reporters a day earlier.

We’ll get a maximum of 16 further media gatherings on Friday but, with Brighton and Hove Albion v Tottenham Hotspur expected to be postponed, that number will likely fall by two.

Leicester City v Newcastle United is, for now, seemingly not at risk, despite the Foxes being hit by some Covid-19 cases of their own.

For much more detailed information, check out our gradually updated Predicted Line-ups page and Injuries and Bans feed ahead of Friday’s FPL deadline at 18:30 GMT.

BRENTFORD

Ivan Toney will miss the visit of Watford after testing positive for Covid-19 last Friday, while Sergi Canos will also be unavailable after picking up his fifth booking of the season in the draw with Leeds United.

Thomas Frank refused to rule Toney in or out of Tuesday’s Gameweek 17 clash with Manchester United, which falls outside of the 10-day isolation period – but only just.

For all of Frank’s pre-match comments about Saman Ghoddos being an option up top, it’ll surely be a fight between Marcus Forss and Yoane Wissa for the vacant spot in attack.

“I will not tell you! That is for Watford to guess about, I would say that those two are options of course. There is also Saman Ghoddos, who played as a two-striker role earlier in his career so I have a couple of solutions that I’m working on, and we’ve worked on today and we’ll work on tomorrow before I take the decision.” – Thomas Frank

Josh DaSilva (hip), David Raya (knee), Kristoffer Ajer (hamstring) and Zanka (muscle) remain out but Mads Bech Sorensen is back in contention after a recent spell in self-isolation following a positive Covid-19 test of his own.

LEEDS UNITED

Leeds United confirmed that Patrick Bamford, Kalvin Phillips and Liam Cooper all picked up hamstring injuries in Gameweek 15. The “evolution of [Bamford’s] injury is subject to daily assessment”, according to the medical bulletin, but Cooper and Phillips are out – the latter potentially sidelined for two months, if media reports are to be believed.

Rodrigo also looks set to miss out this weekend in order to aid his long-term recovery from a recurrent heel problem.

Robin Koch has overcome his pelvic injury but, in keeping with Leeds’ awful recent luck on the fitness front, has been ill for the last 10 days and won’t resume normal training again until this weekend.

WATFORD

Watford revealed on Thursday that Adam Masina (thigh) will only be out for a “short period of time” after a scan revealed just a minor strain.

Ken Sema is back in full training after a month out and could be involved this weekend, while Francisco Sierralta (hamstring) hopes to play a full part in training next week.

Ben Foster (groin), Ismaila Sarr (knee), Nicolas Nkoulou (hamstring), Peter Etebo (thigh) and Kwadwo Baah (ankle) remain unavailable.

SOUTHAMPTON

Ralph Hasenhuttl confirmed that goalkeeper Alex McCarthy will be out for “3-4 weeks” with a hamstring injury picked up in Gameweek 15, while the weekend comes “too soon” for Fraser Forster.

New signing Willy Caballero is poised for his debut between the sticks.

“Alex is out for three or four weeks. Fraser tried this week but it’s still a little bit too early for him so will also not make it to the game, I think, so that’s the reason why we signed Willy.

“[Caballero] is fit, he’s coming in with the willingness to help us and this is what we need now.” – Ralph Hasenhuttl

“This is why you need a bigger squad. This season we definitely have more alternatives for rotation. Let’s have a look at the first game, then the other games are coming up in a short space of time.” – Ralph Hasenhuttl on the Christmas schedule

How's the WC draft? leaves 0.0 ITB

    DDG
    TAA - Cancelo - Rudiger - Coufal
    Salah - Jota - Silva - Bowen
    CR7 - Dennis

    Gunnarson - Dalot - Grey - Locadia

Any other defender you'd consider max 4.4 over Dalot? Could do White or hold on to Livra

Nice. I asked for Coufal sometimes ago and one here reminded me that the two main CB are out and CS may be hard to get.

Are the CB's out long term? Their fixtures are so plum that surely they can knick the odd CS

Only thing I don't like about this squad is Dalot not being nailed which would only leave one player on the bench

What's the Covid status at Leicester?

Already used my 2 FTs earlier this week to do Raphinha & Toney to Bernardo & King, as I had exact money for those moves. Now Son is out and I have Vardy as well!

In the same boat - Except got Dennis over King and still have Sanchez, Son & Reguilon

Leicester have 7 players out some with covid some with unspecified “illness” (speculation among fans is some of them are non-vax and so have to isolate) but our training ground hasn’t closed and our game vs Napoli tonight is going ahead. So seems not as bad as spurs outbreak

Vardy is fine… those named are Vestergaard, Lookman, Iheanacho, Daley-Campbell, Benkovic, Perez and Amartey

Seems better, but they can also be at earlier stage of the outbreak and it may get worse with time. So even though we expect other Lei players to be fit, I wouldn't be at all surprised if there are new cases. I'd imagine every Lei player to have perhaps at least 5% risk of not starting this weekend.

It's a curious thing that most of the consistent performers (like Bowen has been last 6-7 GWs)) are not in as much demand as inconsistent but explosive players.

'premium' players remain popular even if out of form. Some people equate price with quality. They'd buy a kettle in Harrods for £200 when a £20 Lidl kettle will boil water just as good.

I had him I my WC team earlier this week, but decided to go with Antonio instead.

Primarily because I expect Antonio to start scoring again, especially with those fixtures, and if he does he’s going to kill it for BAPS.

I know that goes against the “experts” advice on here, but I’m happy with that decision.

I have Mount in my WC team.

With Lukaku back I can see some assists coming. Also pretty easy to move around in that price point if you need to get rid.

Probably missed all his hauls but I like him as a tidy FPL player in a very good team that will score goals and win lots of games.

    I need your help.
After 11 green arrows in a row, sitting at 8k, it's probably time to accept a fall. I have no free transfer left (moved early for Antonio from Toney, which I still don't regret). But what to do now?

    Ramsdale (Foster)
    TAA James Cancelo (Reguilon, White)
    Son Salah Jota Foden (Brownhill)
    Wilson King Antonio

    0.5itb

    I'm considering

    A) Brownill and Son out for Mount and Silva/Gundo/Grealish (-8)
    B) Son out for Sterling (-4)
    C) Reguilon and Son out for Dalot and Bruno (-8)
    D) Reguilon, Son and Wilson out, for Dalot, Bowen and Ronaldo (-12)
    E) Any combination thereof

Rolling is not an option (I think), as the problems will have to be addressed next week anyway.

What do you think? I'm really struggling to take a decision.

To be fair, Sterling has actually looked quite good. He's just not being mentioned much because he's way more expensive than Foden/Gundo/Bernaro/Grealish who *also* look quite good.

For now. But he's started the last three and done well. Pep likes him, when in form he is the best city mid with KdB. He's hit over 200 points several times, something Bernardo has never done.

This, I actually think Sterling is a decent punt and if I had 0.3m extra in the bank I'd probably switch for him. Question marks over gundog with kdb due back and I don't think bilva's returns are sustainable and he will get rotated at some point even if he hasn't been so far

I think you sit on Reguilon and move Son. Just do a 1 for 1 swap to minimize the hit. Who do you like most as a replacement? I'd suggest maybe Bernardo over Sterling so you have money ITB next week to do something nice.

Otherwise, I'd probably avoid hits here? You can field a perfectly fine team this GW with Reguilon, Son, and Brownhill on the bench.

Rolling is very passive though. If Foden is out, I'd be playing Brownhill but I could play a city mid for -4. I want to attack the fixtures.

Let's say Foden is 50/50 to play. Then on top of that, let's say that the City mid you bring in is a 50/50 chance to return. In that case you have a 25% chance that the hit is worth it over playing Brownhill. I just don't like those odds.

At the very least wait until closer to the deadline to get more news on Foden and make a more informed decision here.

Already done the Kane > CR7 move.

    Have Sanchez in goal.

Only way I can upgrade Sanchez to Guiata or anyone else is to take a -8 as I've got 0 ITB

    Worth doing:

    Raph > Bowen & Sanchez > Guiata?

Or just stick with the 1 FT on CR7 and have no playing keeper?

    Guaita - (4.0)
    TAA - Cancelo - Rudiger - James - (Livramento)
    Salah - Jota - Bernardo - Bowen - (Sissoko)
    Vardy - Antonio - (Dennis)

King has been playing PL football long enough that he should have more killer instinct in front of goal. Dennis has had a good start to his PL career, though he's definitely being motivated by pushing for a place in Nigeria team for AFCON. If you deduct both their best games King's FPL season isn't great but very good for his price.

Yeah. I was never a big fan of King at Bournemouth as a FPL asset. He was good in small spurts whereas Wilson was much more consistent. It feels similar now with Dennis IMO.

I actually like 1 the most here. Getting in Ronaldo and a trendy mid priced mi takes care of two big needs. I think it's pretty reasonable to expect Ronaldo to outscore a 4.5 midfielder by 4 points this week.

I sold him when his fixtures turned, and brought him back now. Lost only 0,1 by doing it. Wilson who I had instead of Antonio during that time got me more points then Antonio during that time also. So all in all that was good punt. There probably were better options then Wilson, but Wilson turned out to be better as holding Antonio as well.

Selling him rightnow probably wasn't the right call we will see. Yes he is not on form yet, but he got better fixtures now and got an assist in last game as well somehow.

Plus, if you sell it opens up a Liverpool slot for something juicy like a 4.8 cost Origi!

For me it will depend on if I have any other fires to put out at that point in time. If I can save 2 transfers on both ends to cleanly take Salah out and then get him back in, it's a huge opportunity to gain spots on people that are benching him.

Dunno he's gained quite a bit of value, not sure he's going to drop by huge amounts which means you have to have the extra if you want him back, and money is tight

This is true, I guess we will be able to monitor it once we have more information on how many GWs he is exactly missing. If he misses 4 then I would assume his price would drop enough where you might not need the extra, again it depends on what his price is at the time of selling. It could still go up between now and GW21.

Don’t bank on any price drops.

When players have previously been missing then the Algarithm has been tweaked to slow falls.

Salah doesn't get injured often, but that may still happen later. Therefore Banking 0.3 tv, buying someone good rising in price and buying cheaper Salah back later may not be big issue from tv point of view. Salah should drop at least twice or casuals who have sold him will be crying because they can't afford him back.

Perma captain. It’s when you think you’re safe he comes from nowhere and gets you

I doubt it's going to be only two weeks. I have been planning to sell him, but I have zero idea if there are good picks for that period. Son and Robbo are possible targets. Yet with the current covid situation long term planning is more like academic discussion. There are far too many "ifs". We don't know how long he is out, which players are in form and how many other fires demand attention. For two weeks only I might just bench him if no spare ft, for 4 weeks easy sell, for 3 weeks big question mark
