Our Big Numbers piece looks at the key player and team statistics ahead of Gameweek 16 in Fantasy Premier League (FPL).

As well as the usual selection of stats from our Premium Members’ Area, we’ve got some great graphics courtesy of Andrew Gower and Ted Talks FPL – our thanks to those two for their excellent input into this piece.

Only subscribers can read the full article; those wishing to sign up to our site and continue reading, as well as see a list of the benefits that Membership brings, can do so by clicking here.

+3.70 expected goals prevented (xG) by Jose Sa (£5.0m) this season, the best rate among FPL goalkeepers. In laymen’s terms, this means that Sa has kept out 3.7 goals more than what data collectors Opta deem he should have conceded based on the quality of shots faced. Sa is FPL’s highest-scoring FPL goalkeeper in 2021/22 and only Edouard Mendy (£6.3m) has a better save percentage than the Wolves shot-stopper.

0 clean sheets registered by Leicester City in their last 14 Premier League fixtures. Kasper Schmeichel (£4.9m) has the worst xGC (-6.70) of all of the Premier League goalkeepers this season, while no side has allowed more efforts on target (78) than Brendan Rodgers’ troops. The Foxes are also ranked 19th for both shots conceded (235) and attempts in the box allowed (157).

13 penalty area touches recorded by Rayan Ait-Nouri (£4.3m) over the last four Gameweeks, the most that any defender has managed in that time. The Wolves wing-back has also had four attempts from inside the opposition box during this period and created five chances.

5 shots in the box attempted by both Matthew Cash (£5.0m) and Tyrone Mings (£4.9m) in Steven Gerrard’s first four games in charge, the joint-highest numbers among FPL defenders. The aforementioned Ait-Nouri is the only defender who has touched the ball in the box on more occasions than Cash (12) in the last four Gameweeks.

19 penalty box touches and four big chances created by Andrew Robertson (£7.0m) over his last four matches, the best among FPL defenders. What’s letting the Scot down is his goal threat: he hasn’t had a single shot since Gameweek 6.

Yes. It's currently my plan for next week (then WC20), and likely would with WC this week too. More tricky to get rid of them without another WC though!

But then I suppose your -4 isn't going to have much chance to make up the hit. As you will need to WC soon anyway.

How many GW before WC deadline?

4 GWs. Plenty of time, plus the benefit of saving the WC would hopefully be way more than 4 points.

i'm doign that next, getting king alongside dennis. i am pretending it is to affort ronaldo but in reality its because i regret getting dennis instead of king in the first place a couple of weeks ago and don't want to admit my error and swap dennis for king !

I would rather have a midfield 2pt machine as fodder than double Watford attack. Don't like the structure.

Broja better if he is going to nail down his place, but it's a gamble.

I hear ya, but do we know how many cases a team needs to have to get a postponement? Leicester have a number, not sure how many but surely they have grounds for a postponement?

        1. Ze_Austin
          • 7 Years
          4 years, 7 months ago

          It's case-based, afaik

Leicester should apply, and then the EPL board will review, especially with their medical advisers

If letting the game go on has a significant health risk to players, staff, fans and all families involved, the game must be moved for public health reasons

If it's already under control... Say, no new positives after the identified cases were isolated, then there's a good chance that those who were negative would be forced to play, according to the required number already stated in preseason

          1. pavlev
            • 15 Years
            4 years, 7 months ago

basically, it is the only thing they can do as you say for public health reasons.

it is a serious moral hazard though, if you lose a couple of key players the incentive is strong to have a covid party to try to get your game called off!

(admittedly right now, the fixture congestion means the bigger teams would probably just prefer to play the match if they could in any case)

I have more faith in Williams than Manquillo. Norwich's new manager has been making things tighter at the back, and actually somewhat succeeding. Newcastle's new manager only wants to "Attack! Attack!!" his way into relegation

Johnson is hamstrung, and might not get his place back automatically when fit, because of Cresswell and Coufal

I understand what you're saying but I'm sure he's only saying it from an fpl point of view as it is a fantasy football site and doesn't want people to get sick

I think there might not be so many tears, if this happens. I have only Ronaldo myself from Man united. If it does not happen Man united players are even more likely to get points though if Norwich has some players missing.

If I have made 2 transfers but then decide I want to play free hit

Do I get my transfers back for next week or keep the players?

    1. @persecuted_by_mods

Your team will reset to as if you never made those 2 transfers

And you'll also only have 1 transfer instead of 2

    Free Hit or Points Hit?

With the Spurs Brighton game postponed, the rumours of Jota being injured, Toney still out and a few other highly owned assets flagged. Is anyone considering a free hit this week? Or will it just be a sea of 4,8,12(?) point hits?

I personally that with the next deadline coming so quickly after this GW, that a points hit is the way to go if needed, as you'll likely have the same issues for GW 17.... but wondering if I'm missing a trick with the Free Hit chip available?

I just think I'd like to have more time to plan my free hit, but I'm really trying to avoid hits this season

Point hit. There's going to be so many hits from other fpl players. A few of the players ruled out/could be ruled out, may still be ruled out next week so you're delaying the inevitable

Toney could still miss next week, and spurs players likely to have leic game postponed. If Jota/Foden/ESR are injured, they could still miss next gameweek

The other option is trying to limp through this GW and praying to not get punished, for every 4 points you take a hit, you need a return to balance it out. Some of the potential hits I've seen some people mentioning scare the life out of me!

The way I'm looking at it is im screwed this week. Nothing I can do about it and its just bad luck. What I can do is make transfers that keep me ahead of the next bandwagons so I'm in better shape from next week. I.e. city mids, Bowen, Ronaldo, Utd defender/keeper, Watkins, etc

Yeah that's sensible. I think my issue is that last GW was my first red arrow after 7 greens in a row... and I'm nervous of starting a red arrow streak!

          2. TopBinFc
            4 years, 7 months ago

Great point, I'm going to limp my way through this GW and see what happens, could have 10 or even 9 players playing, hits are just a killer. Whoever you buy needs to return and thats a lottery, take my medicine for this week and review again midweek.

Obviously everyone will say don't use your free hit but in reality you have to do your thinking. It's not inconceivable that a free hit would turn out the best move for some people

Yeah it's the level of hits I've seen some people suggesting that terrifies me, and a free hit could negate that.... BUT, we won't know all the details until the press conferences which should finish about 2pm. IS 4 hours enough to plan a well-thought out FH?

Good question, to be honest I only ever really considered a Points Hit for my team - Kane and Toney need to go, with Jota and Foden as risks. I might hit to get cover, but only a -4.

Free Hit just feels really powerful to use around DGWs and BGWs.. but I can see how for a few people it could actually make sense this week. Interested to see if anyone is doing it!

Yeah I think I agree, it could be better used elsewhere, but there are a lot of highly owned players that could be missing this week, If it saves you 12+ points, it's got to be tempting

        1. TopBinFc
          4 years, 7 months ago

          Tempting alright

no chance, i used my FH last season in a gw like this where the Villa vs Newcastle game was postponed, and i had a bunch of flags and doubts, i ended up with a team with the likes of Werner and Ziyech who went off injured (they were even playing leeds just like this weekend), and Jesus who didn't start in a 5-0 win, iirc if i had done nothing i would have been about 30pts better off, instead of having i think my worst gw of the season up to that point smh

Right lads it's either WC A or WC B..

    A) Ramsdale

    Taa/Cancelo/James

    Salah/Mount/Jota/Bowen/Bilva

    Antonio/King

    (Foster/Watkins/Dalot/Johnson)

    .
    B) Sanchez

    TAA/Cancelo/James

    Salah/Bilva/Bowen/Mount

    Ronaldo/Antonio/King

    (3.9/Gilmour/Dalot/Johnson)

No more changes. Its one or the other.
