Ahead of Gameweek 7, we take another look at which Fantasy Premier League (FPL) players are on penalties, corner-kicks and free-kicks for their respective clubs.

Over one in five of all goals scored in the Premier League last season came from set plays, with penalties responsible for a further 7.8%.

Our Set-Piece Takers tab rounds up our estimated pecking order but these regular shorter-term recaps look at what’s happened in the Gameweek just gone.

GAMEWEEK 6: KEY OBSERVATIONS AND NOTEWORTHY CHANGES

  • Two players scored both a free-kick and a penalty in Gameweek 6: Ivan Toney (£7.2m) of Brentford and Alexis Mac Allister (£5.6m) of Brighton and Hove Albion. We’d seen Mac Allister on direct free-kicks before but Toney didn’t chance his arm once in 2021/22, so this is a new feather in his cap. Bees boss Thomas Frank said Toney had been pushing to play more of a role from direct free-kick situations:

“The free-kick, obviously, wow. It’s something he’s been working on and he’s been saying he wants to take more free-kicks, so I’ve told him he needs to practice. He has started practising and it’s a classic Ivan goal where he shows his fantastic technique, you notice how well he connects with the ball with his right and left foot, but also his cleverness to put it to the keeper’s side.” – Thomas Frank

  • Neco Williams (£4.1m) hasn’t taken a corner or indirect free-kick since Gameweek 3, with fellow new signings Morgan Gibbs-White (£5.5m) and Renan Lodi (£4.5m) now more heavily involved at dead-ball situations for Nottingham Forest.
  • Marc Cucurella (£5.2m) delivered another five corners in Gameweek 6, meaning that no Chelsea player has taken more corner-kicks than the left-sided defender this season. Conor Gallagher (£5.7m) matched Cucurella’s total against West Ham, with another regular taker, Mason Mount (£7.6m), on the bench. Reece James (£6.0m) continues to take indirect free-kicks but, since Gameweek 1, not corners.
  • No player has taken more corners (29), successful corners (10) or direct free-kicks (four) than Kieran Trippier (£5.2m) in 2022/23.
  • We’ve now seen the joint-cheapest forward in FPL, Sam Greenwood (£4.4m), take at least one corner, indirect free-kick and direct free-kick in 2022/23. His total game-time amounts to just 28 minutes, however.

Could Broja now be added to the endless list of forward options?

He looks far more mobile than Auba for the CHE setup.

Not a Chelsea fan but liked Tuchel .
He had passion for his team and the game and has been a very successful manager in the recent past.
Football has no loyalty anymore if it ever had.
3 or 4 defeats and you're gone.Too much money in the game has spoiled it.
It's just another business to these tycoons that are taking over. Sad really.

Nobody talks about it, but this could be the season when de Bruyne finally breaks Henry's assist record. City's attack may be better than ever and if he stays fit throughout the whole year, he should be able to pull it off.

A few options for your consideration please:

    Sanchez (Ward)
    Cancelo / TAA / James / Trip / Perisic
Grob / Salah / Mart (Dasilva / Pereira)
    Jesus / Haaland (Taylor)

    I'm thinking:
    A) Save
    B) Dasilva to Aaronson or Sinisterra
    C) Peri to Neco
    D) Something else

Very chuffed with the way it has worked with the setup of my team. Tuchel departure has played right into my hands. Going to be tough making a decision on letting one of Mo, Diaz or Sterling go but that decision can become clearer GW7 or 8. Defence is good for GW7 and 8 then to figure out what to do with Gabriel and Saliba with their tricky fixtures coming up.

    Henderson
    James Trippier Gabriel Saliba
    Salah Diaz Sterling
    Haaland Nunez Mitro

Based on Haaland's minutes last night, I think it would be crazy not to cap Haaland, right? Even though I do not see him as the best cap option, Conte may just remove his wig this weekend.

thats where a manager comes in.

      1. Dr. Rog

they could well do. tiago and azpi are in the twilight of their careers, as is koudibaly to some extent. it does make the cucu signing look a bit odd though and how to get the best of james/chilwell is surely wing back system.

if they went to back 4, then it would make pulisic and ziyech type players better options

        1. FOO FIGHTER
          • 6 Years

Liverpool and City have thrived with Cancelo, Robbo and Trent in a back four. I think Pep is planning on moving Cancelo to RB pending if Walker is out GW7 as he will operate much better there and perhaps soon play Gomez at LB who did extremely well last night.

          1. Dr. Rog
            • 16 Years
            3 years, 6 months ago

worth noting that Arsenal and City operate with inverted full backs who become central mids in the attack phase. they have a completely different gameplan.

chelsea and liverpool operate with traditional full backs who provide width. sure they can operate a back 4 and be totally fine. liverpool have a very combative midfield to adjust the balance, whilst chelsea opt for the additional defender - it might also explain why chelsea are so slow in the build up because they have too many players behind the ball...

True. But if you've ever been to Falmer (Brighton) you'll know how essential that train is for the stadium especially.

Station essentially on the doorstep and services the stadium (and Sussex Uni/Brighton Uni campus) - that's how many of the fans get moved in.

Car/cab/bus or nothing otherwise, will be a nightmare.

Yup. But a lot of fans have already made contingencies . May be a bit more difficult but still manageable since there is so much time to plan ahead. Apparently the cops are planning some sort of backup plan for them including buses and a special re route

Considering the best route forward with my WC. Relatively happy where the squad is for now, and can see some improvements to make once the fixtures swing, but not sure a WC is necessary. Let me know your thoughts:

    Sanchez
    TAA - Cancelo - James - Trippier
    Salah - Martinelli - Gross
    Haaland - Jesus - Toney

    Ward - Bailey - Andreas - Toney

Are the following moves worth a WC?
    Salah > KdB
    Gross > Rashford
    Bailey > Zaha
    Jesus > Mitro
    James > Dalot

Or can just plan some short term FTs:
    GW 8 - Jesus > Mitro
    GW 9 - Gross > Zaha

Mostly bc of Arsenals fixture turn and Mitro. Agreed he's certainly not a priority transfer. I, like many, have had the idea of WC over the IB, just trying to see if it's still justified

I have Neto and Archer who i really want to get rid of.
    Have 2.2 itb, 1FT.
Im 0.1 short of doing them to Bailly and Toney..
Could downgrade Jesus to get two of Toney/Mitro/Isak?

    A) Neto -> Rashford
    B) Neto, Archer -> Bailly, Mitro/Isak for -4
    C) Neto, Mendy -> Bailly, Sanchez and bank little more cash to get Toney later
    D) any other better option

    Mendy, Ward
    TAA, Cancelo, James, Fofana, Trippier
    Salah, Martinelli, Gross, Andreas, Neto
    Haaland, Jesus, Archer

Slightly too much of a gamble for me (I did some excessive captaincy twisting last year). I imagine par for Lewa isn't far off 10pts but I'll settle for the 2 goals this time.

A few people have told me not to take Kane out & replace with Mitrovic. As Kane has Leicester GW8. But Mitrovic has Nottingham Forrest in GW8 which is just as good. He is also 4.6 cheaper.

So if you had to pick 1 on WC which one would you take?

    A) Kane
    B) Mitrovic

But it’s the 4.6 I could use elsewhere is what I’m thinking Mitrovic’s run is insane and he’s scoring against everyone

Don't think there's a lot of value in the premium defenders and midfielders at the moment. A lot of the high point scorers so far are lower priced in those positions. I'd rather have Kane than Salah, KDB, Son or Sterling at the moment as my second premium.

I'm looking to have Haaland Kane and Mitro as my front 3 from gw8. Like Mitrovic, Kane has also returned in 5 out of 6 games so far.

Kane's record against opponents between gw8-11 in the PL:

              V Leicester (Played 14, Goals 17)
              V Arsenal (Played 15, Goals 13)
              V Brighton (Played 8, Goals 5)
              V Everton (Played 14, Goals 13)

Get on the Kane train Kane Train!

So on joining Chelsea, Aubameyang said: "It will be an honour and a joy again [to play for Tuchel], we had some good times in Dortmund together so I am really happy to play for him again."

If you're Auba what do you think now? Motivation out of the window (Arsenal fans would question if it is there to begin with).

Can Chelsea actually bring Lukaku back from loan?

Yeh, I am sure I have seen clubs bring back players mid-loan even when it is not in a transfer window... but then it never seems possible in Football Manager, which I base all my football knowledge on.

    Raya
    TAA-James-Trippier-Saliba-Neco
    Salah-KDB-Gross
