A wave of Fantasy Premier League (FPL) Wildcards are being deployed after the midweek conclusion of the FA Cup fifth round.

That’s because an earlier Wildcard looks much more viable now, with a squad much easier to set up to not only tackle and make the most of the blanks and doubles in Gameweeks 27-29 but even cope with Blank Gameweek 32.

The Bench Boost in Gameweek 29 also has added appeal, with no big doubles later in the campaign to rival it.

Of the site users we polled, just over 35% said they are planning to activate the chip in Gameweek 26.

So, we’ve put together three potential Gameweek 26 Wildcard drafts for you to consider: a Harry Kane (£11.7m) one, a riskier no-Erling Haaland (£12.2m) approach, plus a draft for those who have already used their Bench Boost.

READ MORE: FPL Gameweek 26 Wildcard: The pros and cons

THE KANE DRAFT

Two potential Wildcard drafts for FPL Gameweek 26
  • Six players who ‘double’ in Gameweek 27: Brentford’s David Raya (£4.8m), Ben Mee (£5.0m) and Ivan Toney (£7.6m), plus Lewis Dunk (£4.7m), Alexis Mac Allister (£5.4m) and Karou Mitoma (£5.3m) at Brighton and Hove Albion.
  • Dunk/Mac Allister or Mitoma could easily be Pervis Estupinan (£4.7m)/Solly March (£5.1m) if passed fit.

READ MORE: March v Mitoma v Mac Allister: Who is the best pick in FPL?

  • Nine players for Blank Gameweek 28, which can easily be turned into 10/11 using free transfers.
  • 10 Double Gameweek 29 players, with a squad perfectly suited to Bench Boost. Even those with just one fixture carry upside – for example, Bukayo Saka (£8.5m) is at home to Leeds United. In addition, Martin Odegaard (£7.0m) could potentially be transferred out for Bruno Fernandes (£9.8m), adding another ‘doubler’ to your squad.
  • 2 x Newcastle United defenders for their potential Double Gameweek 30/31.
  • A squad capable of coping with Blank Gameweek 32 without forcing a Free Hit.
  • If you aren’t comfortable picking Toney after he was charged over alleged breaches of the FA’s betting rules, which you can read more about here, Bryan Mbeumo (£5.8m) and Ollie Watkins (£7.3m) are decent replacements.

THE NO-HAALAND DRAFT

      As below horse 🙂

      WC team with 0.1ITB.
Can’t find the extra 0.1 to get Raya over Sanchez. Any other changes suggested?

      A. Ødegaard >> Martinelli
      B. Schär >> Botman
      C. G2G

      Kepa
      Trippier, Zinchenko, Pinnock
      Rashford, Saka, Ødegaard, Maddison,
      Haaland, Kane, Toney
      (Sanchez, Mitoma, Estu, Schär)

Honestly, I really would do Ode to Marti. He’s really proven himself to the manager recently after some questions were raised. Looks like you’re well prepped for the blank, just got to hope for no injuries.

Schär possibly a doubt although I know you would not be playing this week so may not be an issue but I would probably get Botman

If you got Raya would a second Brighton mid be better option than Maddison. Can always bring in week 28 if stays fit

Yes probably playing WC. Just so boring as all teams will be the same! Ødegaard for security as probably moves to Bruno in 29. Prefer March if fit

This is my first draft but haven't thought through the future transfers tbh!

      Kepa Raya
      James Estu Zinchenko Trippier Mings
      Saka Martinelli Mitoma Maddison Rashford
      Kane Haaland Toney

WC or save for later? Would probably change Ward, Tark, Myk, Patterson, Salah and Andreas. Worked out it would cost -12 between now and GW29 to get the same team but obviously wouldn't be optimum each week leading up to it. Cheers.

      Kepa, Ward
      Trippier, Gabriel, Tarkowski, Mykolenko, Patterson
      Rashford, Salah, Odegaard, Saka, Andreas
      Haaland, Kane, Toney

I’d wild card sooner rather than later to make more of it. Do it now and then you can save a transfer here and there, not only negating the hits but also setting yourself up to navigate the blanks.

      Gabriel, Trippier, Pinnock
      Saka, Rashford, Maddison, Odegaard
      Haaland, Kane, Toney

      Raya, Estupinan, Mitoma, Botman

      GW27: Save
      GW28: Haaland -> Iheanacho (11 players)
      GW29: Gabriel, Odegaard -> Shaw, Fernandes (13DGW, 2 SGW)
      GW30: Toney, Iheanacho -> Haaland, Ferguson (-4)

Why not Sanchez/BRE def instead of Raya/BHA defender?

Guess the second lot are better with bps but the first lot give you an extra player for 28?

Yeah think it’s worth discussing, I have Sanchez and the extra Brentford defender currently.

      Pros:
      - extra player
      - less chance of choosing the wrong Brentford defender (lol)

      Cons:
      - Raya just is a better FPL keeper than Sanchez
      - Will Estupinan be able to play ALL of the doubles? De Zerbi’s post match comments after the cup game where he said they have to figure out ways to play without Estupinan made me think he’s either injured or doesn’t want to burn him out especially with the congestion coming up.
The alternative would be to choose Dunk but he is less exciting even than the Brentford defenders.

Could go either way but it seems the difference will be how many saves Raya makes compared to Sanchez in the doubles really and I don’t know if it’ll be enough to justify missing a whole fixture compared to the Sanchez route

But if going with Kepa as the other keeper (seems to be template) does gw 28 really matter?

Yes because being able to bench the brighton keeper instead of a defender means you can have an extra outfield starter in 28

probably that order but any could get an attacking return on the day.

Forest much better at home. Trippier could score a free kick. Depends how Trent is too.

Hi guys - real dilemma here, any advice much appreciated. I kinda feel the GW 26 WC is a trap, but can’t decide!

    Current team;

    Kepa/ward
    Gabriel Tarkowski TAA trippier Bueno
    Odegard mitoma salah rashford andreas
    Nketiah haaland Kane

Option 1 - salah and Nketiah to Toney and Saka this week for a minus 4. This will give me one Brighton, and one Brentford and can add one or two more next week. Would then WC in blank 28, and then bench boost in double 29. Advantage being a few more week of info on injuries, player form etc.

    Option 2 - wildcard now.

What do we think folks? I could see me lagging the next few weeks, but then being able to really attack GW29 strongly

    1. Stimps

Do what you you think is best for your team. If you don't feel like you really need to WC and can navigate, don't wildcard. Don't do it just because most are doing it.... I can navigate with 3DGW for 27, 10 playing for 28 and 11DGW for 29 and bench boost

    2. Dazzler83
      • 7 Years

I would maybe go wildcard. I was similar and went for it. I had Robertson, salah, nketiah and Bueno who I wanted to get rid of. But like Stimps says do what you think best for your team

This is going to be quite a common issue - probably has to be an Arsenal mid unless you think Haaland gets rested (unlikely)
It's why I'm leaning Maddison as he is an easy bench that week

Thats why you should plan for BB27, pretty easy with those fixtures and you wont have headache till GW29.

My solution was choosing Maddison over second Brighton mid (and take the risk and bench him against Chelsea in 27). Obviously price difference is huge to BRI mids but the man is worth the punt IMO.

With respect as someone who watches a lot of Chelsea whilst not great himself Kepa is infinitely superior to Mendy as a keeper. Mendy was pretty atrocious and frequently error prone with many of his errors being major.

It seems like a lot of wildcarders are going with double Brighton-mid. I like and understand that, but doesn't it come with the price of ignoring Maddison all togehter over the next stretch? Personally, I can't seem to make it work, as I also want double Arsenal-mid + Rashford. Some advice, please?

Not on WC but I'm probably going with Saka as my only Arsenal mid for 27-9.
      Currently:
      Saka Rashford Maddison Ødegaard Mitoma
      (Øde - March next week)

Could make sense, but wouldn't that make you want to move March out again for GW28? My point is, that the optimal setup for GW27, 28 and 29 (if you want to minimise the usage of transfers) is getting Maddison in on WC and tripple on Brighton elsewhere, eg. Sanchez, Estupinan and Mitoma. That would give you one less player for GW27 (if the alternative is Raya in goal), but it saves you a transfer for GW28

        1. The Mentaculus
          • 4 Years

Will keep March 27-9. I see your point, but I'm happy to just field 9 in GW28 & take a small red for the sake of maximising scores in 27 & 29. I don't see huge scores in 28 with just 6 fixtures anyway, but 27 & 29 I'm really hoping for 100+

Maddison the 22nd most owned midfielder but only outranked by Saka, Odegaard & Rashford for PPG.

After having a good lead in work league the past 3 week I'm rapidly losing what to do with this lot? 1FT & 3 Mil to spend.
    Ramsdale
    Ake Perraud Tarkowski (Shaw) (Trippier)
    Saka Salah Gakpo Rashford Mahrez
    Nketiah Haaland (Greenwood)

With a few to using my WC pretty soon which is best:
    A. Gakpo to someone
    B. Nketiah + Gakpo - Ode + another forward?
    C. Something else?

Gakpo & Nketiah have to go, you can't rely on them to start. Don't like starting Perraud or Ake (too much rotation risk with Laporte back), or Tark really. The Greenwood spot will be a problem in the blanks. Honestly, I would just WC

Waiting another week is fine if you don't have time to work it out today. I would take a -4 for Gakpo & Nketiah - Maddison & Iheanacho, or something like that. And start Shaw over Perraud

Mitioma and Maddison and have one less doubler in 27.

Is Maddison a trap? I'd get him in because he has great potential but fitness is my biggest concern, guy can't seem to go long without picking up an injury

Lot of talk about about Ode or Martinelli but not seeing anyone mention the fact that Ode has far better guaranteed minutes.

Yes Trossard and Martinelli is a great combination for Arsenal but Jesus will come back into that team once fit and then those two will be competing for the left side in those matches. I also expect Martinelli to always come on as a sub when he doesn't start.

Yeah if arteta says Jesus is coming back before GW28 odegaard is a lock for me

True, but I reckon Marty is pretty much nailed on for the next 3-4 weeks. Then I'll assess it.

Is that a timescale mentioned by Arteta? All I've read is that Jesus is back in training and the Everton match was too soon for him.

Has played in Ode's position in recent u21s match, but I'd say he's still more competition for the forward positions for now

Don't think they can take the risk of resting Ode in any match tbh.

If you’re holding through 29 and beyond, play safe with Gabriel

Same here. Wit lot of fixtures including Europe League, full backs could be under rotation threat. Gabriel could be good safer option who could still nick that one header in in upcoming weeks and he also likes bps.

That means you have 3 Brighton outfield slots to sort out in GW28. Play with 9/10 or transfer them out with DGW29 looming.

Absolutely not, wildcard is much more precious in that game where FH cannot bail you out at any stage. 9/11 of your players are optimal this week and the same next even without a transfer.
Wait. Dead end into 28 and play WC in 29 imo.

On WC. What is the plan for Shaw/Dalot for next 5 gameweeks? I would like to have him for 27 and 29 (and 30,31) but if I keep him on wc then 28 I will have one less player which could be Newcastle player against NFO.

Buying Shaw back in 29. Would love to get Dalot but I fear ETH may deploy AWB v Saint Max, so will maybe get Martinez instead

I think you have to keep him. Shaw is capable of getting an assist and CS against any team at the moment. Just take the hit in 28 i'm sure he will make up for it in the other weeks.

keep going back and forth between pressing the button and holding it. I may end up using it because with the easier to navigate bgw28 and 32, being able to attack both doubles with wildcarding this week and carrying 2 transfers to 28 seems like the best time to gain points by activating the chip. Further doubles for potential 30 or 31 (bha vs new) and 34 and 37 can be managed with free transfers since I will probably have some players from the doubling teams already in my squad and ı can just use Fts and hits if necesarry. Saying all this I have still not pressed the button and waiting on the press conference updates to make my final decision before tonight

So if you WC'd this gw and still have all other chips remaining, when are you planning on playing them?

    BB GW29? TC GW37?

    Ta

    1. wakenbagel
      • 4 Years
      3 years, 2 months ago

I looked at potential 37 BB but 29 seems better because you can prepare more easily with wc this week and the fixtures for 37 is not much more exciting than 29 (also in 29 some single gameweekers still can have good points like arsenal at home) so BB 29 looks the way to go for me now. I also have the TC so 34 and 37 could be for that. Regarding the FH, WC this week manages the 28 blank nicely and 32 decently but a FH 32 can be good for fielding more optimal players. If not than it can be saved for 34 or 37, whichever you are not TCing
