A bit later than usual this week, our in-house team of Sam, Marc, Tom and Neale each put forward the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) names they think should make Friday’s final Scout Picks.

Our panelists submit 18-man player longlists with the focus just on the upcoming Gameweek – and with various stipulations, as detailed in the next section.

ABOUT THE SCOUT SQUAD

Everything you ever wanted to know about the FPL Bonus Point System - part one

Our four resident writers are solely focused on the upcoming Gameweek with their selections. Anything outside of this window, we cover in the newly updated Watchlist.

The players who get the most votes are much more likely to make the Scout Picks, although the final XI can’t exceed £83.0m – so occasionally, cheaper alternatives have to be found.

Each of our writers must meet the following requirements for this feature:

  • At least one sub-£5.0m goalkeeper
  • At least one sub-£5.0m defender
  • At least one sub-£6.0m midfielder
  • At least one sub-£7.0m forward
  • No more than three players from the same club

SCOUT SQUAD’S PICK OF THE BEST FPL PLAYERS FOR GAMEWEEK 27

Would you prefer Bruno or March (requires a FT) for the next 3 weeks?

    Thoughts on:

    Kepa
    Trippier Shaw Estu
    Saka Bruno Rashford Mitoma
    Toney Haaland Kane

    Ward Martinelli Gabriel Botman

Plan is to hold FT this week.
28 -> Haaland to Watkins, Nacho or B Johnson
    29 -> Gabriel & Martinelli -> Castagne & Maddison

No hits needed, 9 in BGW 28. 13 Doublers in 29 for BB.

I could use a FT this week on a Brentford def but don't fancy them for 29. Also cannot decide whether to hold onto Bruno or sell for Brighton mid.

Thinking of 3 taking 3 hits over the next 3 GWs to field 10 in the blank and have a strong BB team for GW29. Is this worth using a WC for or how many hits are the limit?

    A) Use WC (stronger team, no hits)
    B) Take the hits (-12) over these few GWs and save the WC

    1. SKENG
      • 9 Years
      2 years, 9 months ago

I was in a similar situation and went for WC. Alternative I like most would be dead end into 32 and use WC in 33 to really attack the finish, but I don't regret WCing now.

    2. Connor Wickham
      • 12 Years
      2 years, 9 months ago

Probably B. May be worth looking at what your WC team would look at post GW30 to see how many likely changes you would want and decide from that.

After much deliberation. I’ve decided do BB this week over 29 and i’m already maxed out on Brighton and Brentford players. I’m not FH’ing next week so preferably i want a player to come in with a game next week and a double in 29 (not a deal breaker though). Any recommendations for a free transfer to maximise my BB? Or just roll? Current bench is:

    Kepa - Martinelli - Zinchenko - Schar

Schar to Chilwell or Reece float your boat? You could even think about a schar - TAA or Robertson punt for this week at least - doesn't help next week, though. the other possibility is Martinelli to JWP, but I don't fancy that much TBH.

Somethign that people dont mention there is that cold weather means less goals, so Raya/Estu may be the right captain choices

Not sure you are taking the p**s here or not. Do you have data to back up this claim

        1. Tonyawesome69

There are so many caveats with this analysis to cover this post with yellow caution tape. For starters, we are only considering one regressor: kickoff temperature. Predominant weather condition might be another condition worth adding (zero Celsius and clear is a different environment from zero Celsius and snowing), but that would add a categorical variable that I didn’t want to deal with at the time. There could be other meteorological variables that might be important — wind speed, humidity — but those aren’t always available readily. (The J-League reports temperature and humidity in their match reports for reasons that aren’t clear to me.)

The most significant caveat is the need for more data beyond a single season. I feel very uncomfortable making a strong conclusion on a season’s worth of data from a single domestic competition. What should one think of a categorical statement made with data from one night of a continental club competition?

Thats enough evidence for me, this is why in May there are lots of goals at the end of season. They studied the whole 380 matches of 2011/12 season which is a big number of games

"Translated to probabilities, the difference in magnitudes at various temperature is not that great. At zero degrees Celsius, the estimated P(O/U>2.5) is 0.62, which of course means that P(O/U

There's a lot of goals in May because unless they're fighting for a European Spot or to escape relegation they don't care anymore. There's a whole saying for it that they're on the beach.

Very good point. That may actually be the more important factor.

Perhaps teams start off more tentative at the beginning of the season (colder weather) and less goals - more happy to settle for a draw

The plan was not to use FH now instead of WC, but I’m actually tempted to do it now, a good idea here? Or would you use WC now? Or just take some hits and save FH for later?

    GW27: FH
    GW28: 9 players now, can have 10 without a hit (bring in a DGW29-players)
GW29: BB. Have 7 DGW-players now, will have 9 when using one transfer in GW28 and one in GW29

    Current team:

    (1FT, 1.7 itb)

    Kepa (Ward)
    Trippier/Shaw/Mings (Tark, Bueno*)
    Saka/Rashford/Martinelli/Ødegaard (Mahrez)
    Haaland/Kane/Toney

Pickford, Bueno > Raya, Henry (-4)? Would mean benching Botman but Henry would give me an additional fixture now and in gw28. Team would then be:

    Raya
    Trippier Gabriel Henry
    Salah Rashford Saka Mitoma
    Haaland Toney Ferguson

    Ward; Odegaard, Botman, Tarkowski

  19. Gon Freecss

    WC third draft:

    Raya
    Trip, Chilwell, Estu
Saka, Salah, Rash, Macallister, (c) Mitoma
    Mbeumo, (vc) Toney, Kane

    Kepa, Mbeumo, White, Botman

Main difference from the last draft is Haaland + Mee out > Toney + Chilwell.

    Any thoughts much appreciated!
