We’ll be ‘Scouting the Doubles’ for the teams playing twice in Gameweek 37, identifying the pick of the players for Fantasy Premier League (FPL).

Following our looks at Chelsea and Manchester United, as well as opposition weaknesses, attention now turns to Manchester City in this, the final instalment of a four-part series.

We’ve again been using Opta data from our Premium Members Area, where you can still ‘try before you buy’ with a free trial.

FIXTURES IN DOUBLE GAMEWEEK 37

This pairing would be deemed a tricky set of fixtures for most other clubs but Man City have just demolished Real Madrid 4-0 so won’t fear anyone right now. Chelsea are having a mediocre campaign, Brighton and Hove Albion are a ‘Jekyll and Hyde’ team of late and, although Brentford won the reverse fixture 2-1 at the Etihad, star forward Ivan Toney‘s (£7.2m) ban means he won’t be around to repeat the brace.

Another big complication for FPL managers is that Pep Guardiola’s side could be crowned champions after the Chelsea match – either through their own victory or Arsenal losing at Nottingham Forest beforehand.

As explored in Neale’s look at previous late-season ‘Pep Roulette’ situations, it’s likely that most Man City players won’t play in all three remaining league matches. There is an FA Cup final and Champions League final coming up – Pep tends to use Gameweek 38 to go fairly strong and build rhythm but the trip to Brighton could see heavy rotation.

ATTACKING NUMBERS

Total (rank v other clubs)
Goals92 (1st)
Shots555 (4th)
Shots in the box376 (4th)
Shots on target206 (1st=)
Big chances126 (1st)
Expected goals (xG)75.53 (1st)
Non-penalty expected goals (xG)67.65 (1st)

We know how it is with this exceptional Man City team – so many goals. They lead the way for most team attacking stats, such as shots on target, big chances and minutes per chance.

Curiously, they’re only fourth-best for taking shots and from inside the box but 37.1% of attempts are on target – a rate only bettered by Brentford. Their 16.6% goal conversion rate is number one.

Their expected goals (xG) delta of +16.47 suggests huge overachievement but is most likely explained by having such a high-quality set of players.

On 20 occasions, Man City have scored at least three times.

DEFENSIVE NUMBERS

    Bruno has 12% ownership
    Halaand 80%

Halaand capitan it is then, just to be able to celebrate his points (if he gets any) and not be in a position where you fall in rank with every point he gets ... just to safe guard your mental health 🙂

    Thoughts ?

I wish I knew the maths behind EO well enough to know what difference it makes captaining one or the other if they score the same.

I don't and it's too early for that so I'm going Haaland

    2. Gandalf

Ownership isn't relevant, EO the more relevant one.

      1. Hotdogs for Tea

Quite, but we don't know EO yet, although ....

        - Haaland at 80% means his EO will be over 100%
        - Bruno at 12% means his EO will be under 100%

Last week using the top 10k ones as an indicator, Bruno was 36% and Haaland 100% so agree that Haaland will have EO massively above 100% and unless chasing is the safe captain and so can celebrate his points. Don't have Bruno so glad that Haaland is around to keep Bruno's EO down a bit lower than it could have been.

Agree on mental health impacts. We still able to celebrate Bruno’s goal/assist and feel ok with inevitable Haaland’s goal.

Can't help feeling the frustration with some of the game, like owning a player that reduces your rank when they score a goal.

No big deal really, but I suppose it's more like feeling better and happier with certain choices rather than the negative side of it ... after all it's just a fun game of chance driven by informed & considered choices

I get the frustration and obviously it’s annoying when a move backfires or you pick the wrong captain, but I’ve seen full meltdowns on here because the game didn’t add assist points on immediately, people crying that their weekend’s “ruined” cos of their team, people abusing players/refs over blatant bookings, etc.

If you get to THAT point, you need to pack it in and get your nut checked.

            Agreed

What gets me is when you bring a player in and the player hits the woodwork, twice, gets booked and subbed at 59 minutes and the players you sold doesn't get a shot on target but gets a goal off his thigh and gets 3 bonus 🙂

Marcus Rashford only has four goals and two assists in his last 15 matches in all competitions. He’s not the machine he was immediately post World Cup.

Him being out and reduced to a single game might be a blessing as it should be easier to justify moving him on for a doubler or at least a player with more upside.

Choosing to sit on him out of safety/pragmatism feels awfully like choosing to sit on double Newcastle defence last week instead of moving for Wilson. Look how that turned out.

Even in his machine phase, he was significantly more prolific at OT than away. United have had a disproportionate number of away matches in the last 8 or 9 (not sure what that looks like over last 15).

For me, the single against Chelsea and then Fulham in 38 should be happy hunting for him. I'll be disappointed with a benching or no-show today but see anything he does get as a bonus

True, they’re definitely stronger at home. But they’re also generally low scoring with scorers spread throughout the squad too.

    4. fusen
      • 14 Years
      2 years, 10 months ago

And yet his ownership is still very high.

I benched Estupenian last week as he hasn't been that great recently and look how that turned out.

This game is full of large doses of luck, do you want to gamble and go against the crowd with only 2 games left to fix things?

Chasers should gamble, everyone else should play it safe. (generally)

      1. Scots Gooner
        • Fantasy Football Scout Member

I’m at a rank I’m fairly happy with, so slightly more willing to gamble.

Feel Gundo/Mahrez both get more points/minutes over Rash/Grealish. Those are the moves I’m tempted to make.

But it’s Pep, so who knows.

    5. Arteta

This is so true. For example: I was inflexible with Mitoma and Schar for months because they had more (good) fixtures than some of my targets. At the end they got 5 and 2 points in a double gameweek I've waited for so long.

Been on Mitoma for months too, with little pay off. If it wasn’t for the Southampton fixture he’d be in danger too.

Feel it’s worth the risk to chase some higher upside players, especially in a double.

It could back fire spectacularly though.

I only have 1 united player (Shaw)

Zouma to Lindlof for free, or play Trippier?

    Has
    Degea/Leno
    Trippier/Shaw/Dias/zouma/white
    Gundogan/mac alister/almiron/ garnacho/Salah
    Solanke/Haaland(c)/isak

    Doing bench boost this week.
Will you -4 to take trippier out?
-8 to remove both Shaw and trippier out ? Any other changes needed ? Chasing 20points
