No, I think that is perfectly fine. If it soon becomes apparent he is hiding dead fish in your locker room, you can very easily and quickly ask him to do one.

According to the rules you’ll be forced to remove 1 of your Arsenal players the next time you want to make a transfer (if you have 4 from one team) so probably isn’t worth it mate.

Raya could be staying at Brentford.

Raya’s agent, Jaume Munell, has told Romano that his client will be happy to leave the Premier League club for nothing in 2024 if they do not lower their asking price.

Munell said: “If Brentford does not lower the price tag for David Raya this summer, we’ll be ready to leave as a free agent in one year.”

I think he'll still be off. They promised Flekken he'd be no 1. (Source: https://sportwitness.co.uk/brentford-signing-reveals-promises-made-transfer-lucrative-contract-good-turn/ )

Manager hasn't stated Flekken will be No1. I remember Henderson at United saying something similar and that ended badly.

“We’re very happy to have signed Mark,” head coach Thomas Frank told the official Brentford website.

“He’s a player with a lot of quality who will strengthen our goalkeeper group.

BBC articles love saying that Rice's "goal output needs to increase". Do they even know what position he plays?

    Casemiro - 4 goals, 3 assists
    Rodri - 2 goals, 6 assists
    Rice - 4 goals, 3 assists

Seems fine to me, especially when you consider he played for West Ham...

    1. Goodfeathers

Exactly. You’d imagine his numbers will increase naturally too once he’s playing in a more creative team.

    2. Deulofail
      • 10 Years
      2 years, 7 months ago

Thought he was more box-to-box at WHU with Soucek alongside/behind him? And along with the feeling that Rice could play in Xhaka's role, especially if Partey stays, explains why they'd insist on a necessary increase, like we got from Xhaka. It's lazy punditry, though, I'll agree.

If he plays consistently as a 6, then his goal output is the last thing to focus on. Still you'd expect all his defensive numbers to go down, basically, because it's Arsenal, and all his attacking/passing numbers to go up. A lot of analysis I've seen, too, seems to forget that he's at West Ham where his defensive numbers are bound to be better than Partey's at Arsenal, even if he's mediocre.

      1. Piggs Boson
        • 14 Years

I don't think he was anymore box-to-box than Casemiro was, who also played in a double pivot and wandered forward.

        1. Deulofail
          • 10 Years
          2 years, 7 months ago

I think he wandered a bit further forward, though less centrally. His heat map looks a little more like Xhaka's than Casemeiro's to my eye. Yet his attacking output is less than Xhaka's (understandable) and no more than Casemeiro's, despite playing over 1000 mins more and possibly having the licence to get a little closer to goal.

If he continues in a double pivot (or as an 8) for Arsenal, I think he would score more (as Goodfeathers says, naturally), just as Casemeiro would have if he played the whole season. But it's not particularly interesting journalism/analysis, especially if they aren't actually considering him as a possible 6.

Fair enough. You probably know better than I do. Didn't watch a whole lot of West Ham last season.

I'd be surprised if he played as an 8 next season though.

Anyone else considering Mount over Bruno? Rashford is a must have for me, but Mount has set piece threat and ETH has been after him earlier. No pens is the biggest issue, but supposing he gets free kicks, it's positive for him and might dent Bruno's points. I can also see him passing through balls to Rashford. That 1.5 million is a lot of money, it allows to get 5.5 def over 4.0 for example. So the question becomes something like:

    A) Bruno + Beyer
    B) Mount + Stones

    1. Stranger Mings
      • 5 Years

Great point making me reconsider Bruno now and going mount

    2. Baps Hunter
      • Fantasy Football Scout Member

And also, there is big (30-40%) chance that he gets more points than Bruno during first weeks. Should that happen, Bruno to Mount mass sales might start. Early fixtures for MU are not the easiest ones, so investing 17.5 million in their midfield feels a bit too much. Bruno's EO is now just below 23% so going without him isn't too big risk imo.

        1. Big Mike
          • 3 Years

I'd go for Jesus and one Arsenal mid rather than two Arsenal midfielders and no Jesus. Saka is the standout choice amongst Arsenal midfielders for me. Although the Gunners have strengthened their midfield Saka is likely to get more minutes as there isn't anyone else who can play his role. Havertz I suspect will share minutes with Odegaard and Marty will share minutes with Trossard.

Maybe that’s the smarter play actually as it’ll be much easier to downgrade Jesus.. Was dead set on double Arsenal mids though & definitely want a defender for those opening fixtures. Somethings gotta give I guess!

That would mean a hit or extra transfer to get 3rd Ars player. I am considering Wissa + 1.5 mitb to be very flexible. That is not optimal either, but with these prices it's a real possibility.

Looks good but will need to monitor Mings & Lamptey mins in pre season. Don’t think Mings will necessarily be first choice now Carlos is back fit and they’ve signed Pau.

I don't like Ramsdale when he rarely gets bonus points and blocks valuable 3rd Ars spot. Botman has some sour fixtures at the beginning, I'll probably get him when he is 4.4 or 4.3. Mitoma over game time risk Enciso for me.

I’m slowly becoming open to a no-Salah draft. It’s going to come down to the question of captaincy. I can fit Haaland, Jesus, Saka, Rashford, Mitoma and three big defenders with or without Salah; the main sacrifices are Trent and Mbeumo which seems worth it to me.

Ideally, I want Salah captain against Bournemouth, and I’d like the option in GW5 when he faces wolves as well. There’s no guarantee Pep plays Haaland for 90min every week with Álvarez available. Salah is amazing and I’d rather have him to stand in when Haaland inevitably misses a match.

To illustrate, I think Salah is a better VC than Saka/Jesus or Rashford in four of the first six GWs - certainly 2, 4, 5 and 6.
GW1: Salah (che), *Rashford (WOL), Saka (NFO)
GW2: *Salah (BOU), Rashford (tot), Saka (cry)
GW3: Salah (new), *Rashford (NFO), Saka (FUL)
GW4: *Salah (AVL), Rashford (ars), Saka (MUN)
GW5: *Salah (wol), Rashford (bha), Saka (eve)
GW6: *Salah (WHU), Rashford (bur), Saka (TOT)

Thoughts? Are Rashford and Saka good enough VCs? Am I overthinking?

I think it's far from inevitable that Haaland misses a match in the first 6. How often was he rested for a whole PL game last season?

Rashford vs Burnley doesn't look bad to me. Haaland should start all matches when fit, but his minutes are likely to be managed after game is won.

Yh guess it will be some rotation. Jota, Diaz and Gakpo in the mix. Would think Klopp will start ay least most games with Darwin as target man. Surely he can't miss as many sitters this season.

I really fancy him to be much better this season. Seemed to get so many chances last year but his finishing let him down far too often. If they hadn’t signed Gakpo I’d definitely take an early punt on him this year though. Just worry he’s a rotation risk.

From what I’ve seen and read, the theory is that Darwin gets more minutes in this new look team. He will always squander but starts mean potential. He wasn’t getting starts at the back end of last season.

I just think it’s quite common for players to take a while to settle. Suarez got a lot of criticism for finishing in his first season at Liverpool and look what happened there. I’m not saying Darwin will definitely be better, but I think he’s worth a punt if he’s a sure starter, particularly given his knack for being in the right place at the right time.

          Thoughts?

          £4.5 (£4.5)
          Gabriel Shaw Estup (Botman Mings)
          Saka Odegaard Rash Mbuemo (£5.0)
          Haaland Darwin Nkunku

If Gakpo continues to be favoured in that front 3 pre-season then I’ll probably abandon 343 and go for TAA, unless Foden looks nailed. If TAA isn’t whipping as many balls in and sharing set pieces I’d rather have Diaz.

Not tempted to go with another Arsenal def over White to free up 0.5 to upgrade Morris?

Maddison or Foden for the first 5gw. Who gets more points

Not keen on either, but Foden, if you must.

                Just the obvious 6.5m's
Foden my only risk, and have a couple of 4.5m defenders on bench to cover.

Same problem as all ManC defenders - they all returned fewer than one hundred FPL points last season.

            Hi all

I’ve spent more than 24 hours and haven’t changed my draft so it’s getting closer imo

            Pickford
            Gabriel Henry Estup Botman
            Salah Saka Mitoma Rash Bruno
            Haaland

            Areola Cash Archer Surridge

Sacrificed Jesus and Trent to get Salah

            What's going on at city?

Gundog gone. Rumours that mahrez and bilva going too

And they don't seem to be linked with any replacements....bit odd

If they get the Croatian CB will Stones move to midfield ? Phillips might come good? Just won the treble, I’m sure Pep won’t let them all go without replacements.

If stones play midfield, could be a great option

They've signed Kovacic already. I'm pretty sure they won't let go of both Bilva and Mahrez in the same window. Foden and Alvarez can play throughout the front 3. Alternatively Pep could also use a 2 striker formation with Alvarez and Haaland with Grealish and Cancelo wingback if they sort out their issues.

talk of walker going too, the squad does look very thin if all them players go, it would be good for the league though if they were to have an off season imo

Can't seem to decide between Rashford and Son.
Feels like addision of Maddison is gonna have a huge impact on spurs.

Rashford to begin, unless you have Bruno too and want to spread your risk a bit

3-5-2. Rotate goalkeepers & Tarkowski/Cash. Would get Shaw but rather rotate.

            Leno
            Gabriel | Estupiñán | Tarkowski
            Son | Rashford (v) | Fernandes | Martinelli | Sterling
            Haaland (C) | Jesus

Bench: Flekken | Cash | Bell | McAtee
