What is it with Mbeumo always hitting the post? I can't work out whether it means he's a bad finisher or whether he's just extremely unlucky.

Suarez used to always hit the post when he first joined the league. Used to be frustrating. Obviously he went on to be a monster.

Maybe Mbeumo only needs a small adjustment to his shooting technique to net far more goals. Might be a good sign.

Mine is currently v similar (Mbuemo > Mitoma and different bench defenders).

I'm fairly settled on the midfielders for now, but will keep an eye on whether a credible forward option emerges - don't want to get stuck without that price point (although I guess it'd just be a case of downgrading a mid and upgrading João).

I think there are three main contenders for Chelsea - Chilwell - Sterling - Nkuku
I plan/hope to have two free transfers gw3 to get two of them and hope they have not risen in price by then.

If you start the pair, you'd get 3 points most weeks - awful. The benched one would get you a 1-point cameo, see. Nah, one will be a bargain IF they score a few, but otherwise they'd be a burden.

Jayus, I am. Lucky enough to get an AI ticket. I would say you crowd in Mayo want both teams to lose! 😀

Still think neither this Kerry team or fading Dublin team can be defined as 'great' now.

I honestly think Galway/Mayo/Derry etc will feel they left this AI chance behind them. Was a brilliant chance for those three in particular to break the famines.

David Clifford will be the difference in the final - all eyes will be on him. A bit like Kane for Spurs he is carrying them.

I think Clifford could be the difference alright but rest of that Kerry team have improved. If Dublin have another gear in them they'll win. Would be shouting for them to see Cluxton, Fitzsimons and McCarthy win their 9th. It'll probably boil down to what either bench contributes in the last 20 minutes. Should be a cracker.

Thoughts on Enciso over Mitoma? The FPLteam website is suggesting I swap Mitoma for Enciso as he is expected to get 8 points more over the next 4GWs. It would leave me 0.5itb instead of 0itb.

Most of these models are driven by opinion and subjectivity.

Enciso may not start every game. There is a ton of quality competition in that position for Brighton. The model must make the assumption he's nailed.

His points per 90, and his xStats per 90 are superior than Mitoma's. That must be what's driving it.

But he hasn't played many minutes, so it's an unreliably small sample. And per 90 stats are only really useful when the player is expected to play 90, which he's not.

Jota and Gakpo have both proven themselves already and are much more clinical than Darwin, so I have to disagree. There won't be an out-and-out 'first choice', either - they're all too good to be wasted on the bench every week

No doubt I will spend hours tinkering with my team up until the deadline when I will knee-jerk and just copy the scout picks. I do quite like pre-season as coming up with the various teams is fun and that is in part lost once the season starts. Makes me think having a second throwaway team that I can take hits-galore on could be a way to be more careful with the main one.

Some background stats for the £6.0m Buendia bandwagon.
Last season he was in the top 2% of midfielders for touches in opponent's box and non-penalty expect goals+assists.
He ranked 23rd overall for non-penalty expect goals+assists per 90mins for players than played at least 2000 minutes.

His only doubt seems to be gametime. Gerrard did his best to try and ruin him. Just shows what a good manager can do with the same players.

He played next to Watkins last night. With Diaby and Bailey he has a lot of competition for that spot. If he keeps that position he would be a bargain. Easily the best player on the pitch last night.

He's inconsistent. Intermittent starts. 5 goals and 2 assists in a season. Could be better options for 6m or go 4.5m mid and 6m striker.

Is Porro the best 5m def after Gabriel and Estupinan? or is there someone else better?

      Based on defending?

Varane, Martinez, Saliba, Mee and a lot of the 4.5s.

On attacking output and considering that typically there's only 3 or 4 clean sheets out of 20 teams each weekend
      ....

Then it's not a bad call.

      Dunk, Schar, Saliba, Ake
Martinez and Varane from your own team.

Yeah that’s the concern, I think he was first choice tho the end of last season, can’t understand why Dalot is 5.0 and AWB only 4.5

    Thoughts?

    Pickford
    Trent - Porro - Patterson
    Son - Rashford - Saka - Kluivert
    Kane - Darwin - Jackson
    (Martinez - Chilwell - Pau - Nakamba)

    Everton/Villa rotation
    Saka/Kane captaincy rotation.

I'd say he's the most attacking, but the most injury prone. Might choose Tarky

Think Kluivert will link well with Kerkez at LB. Can't see Kluivert not starting. He can play anywhere behind the striker.

Kluivert could be a nice punt. I'm interested to see what Iraola does with Bournemouth attack & keeping an eye on him, Billing, maybe Solanke as a rotation option after WC

Yeah, had Billing in one of my old drafts. Just can't find the funds for 0.5m. Think the Cherries will score in almost every game

Just for anyone who didn't watch the Liverpool game.

Gakpo was an advanced eight. Sitting behind the front 3. Very effective in that role and gets very involved.

Darwin was much further forward than Gakpo and basically the main stroker in the second half and got his 2 goals.

So, the suggestion that it's between Gakpo and Darwin for a start is wrong. I'd say Salah, Diaz and Gakpo are fairly nailed to start at Chelsea. It's between Darwin and Jota for the other spot. Fairly close but I'd be surprised if Darwin doesn't start ahead of Jota..

Jota was the star of the last friendly though.... I don't think we can infer much useful info from these games

And could be Gakpo is just filling while Slobby is getting up to speed.

I think Szoboszlai would the right 8 though, so its possible if Mac Allister is needed in the DM role until they find someone new. Mac did play right 8 (ish) today but generally stayed much deeper than Gakpo

Yeah its a good point & definitely worth keeping an eye on. I wouldn't say he's nailed in that position, and defensively they did look a bit too open down the left flank with Gakpo left 8 & Robbo LCB, but going forward he looked pretty good in this role.
