After asking readers to guess the price of 20 Fantasy Premier League (FPL) players before its 2023/24 relaunch, we can now reveal the results.

In case you missed it, this a competition put together by Fantasy Football Scout regulars TopMarx and circusmonkey.

It wasn’t just for fun, either – there were Premium Memberships on the line.

A full year’s subscription went to the entrant with the most correct guesses (a randomised draw settling matters in case of a tie), with monthly Premium Memberships going to those in second and third.

RESULTS

We actually had five names sitting joint-top with 14 correct predictions. Of these, Varaldo has been drawn at random as the first-place winner.

Additionally, we’ve decided to reward each of the other four – Lilmessipran, SultanSaeed99, harizh and Iain Sime – with a one-month prize.

Congratulations to our winners – email support@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk to claim your prizes.

COMMUNITY ‘GUESS THE PRICE’ RESULTS

Overall, the average Community member correctly guessed 11 of the 20 prices.

Haaland, Alexander-Arnold, Son, Foden, Isak, Mac Allister, Mitoma, Shaw and Stones were the most likely nine names to be incorrect.

A lot of these were just £0.5m off but two players’ average predictions differed by £1.0m in opposing directions.

Just seven per cent correctly predicted World Cup winner Mac Allister to be £6.0m, compared to the expected £7.0m.

Meanwhile, Alexander-Arnold was the opposite, with a starting price £1.0m dearer than the average Community member anticipated. Indeed, only 3.8 per cent thought he would be £8.0m.

Curiously, this is in stark contrast to last year, when a whopping 56 per cent thought he would cost £8.0m but he came in at £7.5m. His on-the-ball move to central midfield towards the end of the season no doubt swayed FPL Towers, who made him the second-most expensive defender in FPL history, behind only John Terry’s £8.5m starting price for the 2005/06 season

Of the nine incorrect predictions, he and Haaland were deemed to have been overpriced in reality. The other seven are cheaper than thought but it was close for Son, where 27.6% predicted £9.5m and 26.7% correctly guessed £9.0m.

THE NINE INCORRECT PREDICTIONS, ON AVERAGE

Erling Haaland (£14.0m), average community entrant said £13.5m
Alexis Mac Allister (£6.0m), average community entrant said £7.0m
Alexander Isak (£7.5m), average community entrant said £7.5m
Trent Alexander-Arnold (£8.0m), average community entrant said £7.0m

Luke Shaw (£5.5m), average community entrant said £6.0m
Kaoru Mitoma (£6.5m), average community entrant said £7.0m

I've just placed a bet on Arsenal winning the league. I have learnt that this is good for my mental health, since, if Arsenal fail, I am at least supporting my favourite fantasy football site. Thank you, FFS, for teaching me how to responsibly hedge my bets.

Leon Bailey (1997): Bayer: 119 apps, 28 goals, Villa: 51 apps, 5 goals
Moussa Diaby (1999): Bayer: 125 apps 31 goals, Villa ?

Do I have a reason to think Moussa Diaby is the better player or is he just a part of Villa's routine?

Sadly think he is a spent force after his terrible injury and it makes very little difference to either Fulham or wolves. I see him as back up to Vinicius who has shown flashes of being able to step up, even if he’s not going to replace mitrovic. Can’t remember how Fulham did in that 8 game ban, seem to remember Vinicius doing ok once he got a run.

Why are you less enthused now they were unbelievable last season I think even if they lose Caicedo aswell as Mac Allister they’ll have more than enough to score points against LUT, wol, WHU and even NEW

Looked pretty dominant against Chelsea (though I've only seen the 1st half) even without lots of key players. I'm actually toying with the idea of capping Mitoma GW1. I don't really get the scepticism tbh, think they're a great attacking side, very comfortable with RDZs tactics now, will demolish the first 3 GWs & continue strongly.

I have gone with Watkins over TAA, I was a pretty miserable Trent owner last season so its a wait and see for me. Villa I see as a team on the ascendancy.

I think Richarlison would likely inherit pens. Also I think I read in the report of the WHU game that Ange had both FBs inverting - so I'm guessing the wingers might stay wide? Did you see that game? Does that make sense? If Son is played up top I'd be more interested but at the moment I'm eyeing up Richi if Kane leaves

Currently looking at what I could do without Trent and for me it seems to boil down to Trent and 6.5m mid or Gabriel/Chilwell and Rashford/9.0m mid.

    Johnstone/ Flekken
    Stones Estupinan 3rd Def
Saka Mbeumo/Mitoma Bruno Foden 5th mid

Might as well upgrade veltman to estupinan since you wouldn't want to fall behind should estupinan returns...also small chance gross or lamptey play right, but veltman looks most likely

      Nice

Just put a £4m keeper on the bench...

Same team as me practically, same front 7 anyway. But I have Gabriel and Estupinan at the back and a 4m goalkeeper instead of Pickford.

I think I’ve managed to end up with Darwin Nuñez in my draft…

    1. Fortunately there are still 3 weeks to go

        2 1/2 weeks and 2.7m players registered.

Safe to say those with Trippier are playing their own game rather than posting on here.

The best part of 1 million teams.

        1. Think I have him too thanks to auto-select - maybe the majority of these 1 million teams realise it is still pointless doing drafts yet 😉

Huge dilemma for me, please help...

The question really comes down to Dalot+ Mbeumo, or Shaw+wissa...I have Trent on the bench for gameweek 1, so in case Dalot doesn't play he comes in, but I worry he may come on for 10 minutes for a 1 pointer...any suggestions?

    ONANA
    ESTUPINAN, DALOT, GABRIEL
    BRUNO, SAKA, FODEN, MITOMA, MBEUMO
    HAALAND, JESUS
    BENCH: AREOLA, TRENT, BALDOCK, UI-JO

    Thanks in advance!!!

Get rid of Dalot. Could even downgrade him to get Rashford, but I’d go Shaw + Wissa.

The worry is if he starts, he's almost as good for bonus and assist as shaw is...so the question is between Mbeumo and wissa...and even though I am really considering wissa as a differential, Mbeumo is more nailed...

Mbeumo probably on set pieces though.

But the thing is neither Dalot nor AWB are nailed, whereas Wissa seems to be.

      Just play Trent against Chelsea.

      He's priced for attacking returns.

On the 0.00001% chance that Kane signs for Man United, do you rip your draft up to him in?

Some United attacking stats from last season:
    - 53 non-penalty goals (rank 7th)
    - 206 shots on target (rank 2nd) - only Brighton better by 13
    - 26% conversion rate (rank 15th)
    - 65.3 non-penalty xG (rank 6th) - City 1st with 71.1
    - -12.3 for goals minus xG (rank 18th) - only Chelsea and Everton worse

Bruno's assists would be insane if Kane went there!

Would feel pretty much forced into doing so but I think it'd be terrible for FPL (no 'differential-ish' Salah, even greater conformity among squads)

If Kane is kicking off gw1 I'll look at Salah again.

But Salah starts hot and is consistent too.

Probably not, hard to be good value at 12.5m without regular captaincy. But he would make Rashford a better option. Not sure about Bruno, because he'd likely lose pens to Kane.

Onana & Mount will improve United's attacking stats massively imo.

But I highly doubt Kane goes to United.

Has anyone managed to identify any potential 'head of the curve' selections for their current draft.
I've been considering the following as potential gems:
    Barnes (New)
    Awoyniyi (For)
    Diaby (Villa)
    Lockyer (Lut)

Half his goals were created by Olise last season who'll likely be out until late September anyway. Still an option but heavy caveat there. Upside is he'll have a monopoly on set pieces probs but Palace have no real record there.

The better Palace option is likely Johnstone as Lerma is likely to improve Palace defence considerably over last season. A Roy keeper with a strong CB and CDM combination is always a likely combination.

You appear to have an accidentally included a Luton player.

I have a few ideas that aren't getting any/much mention:

      - Digne (yes really) if Villa are playing 3 CBs + LB that's more like a winger. Just til Moreno gets back.
      - Ndiaye could start well.
      - Keeping an eye on what Iraola can do with Bournemouth attack (Billing, Kluivert).
      - Richarlison if Kane leaves

Lockyer is a very good header of the ball and was very dangerous on corners in the Championship...I think he will pose the same threat in the Premiership

Only issue being all the minus pts from goals conceded...
But you(r grav) strike me as someone who's been watching more of the Championship than I have the last couple years. Are we wrong to assume Luton will get destroyed on a weekly basis?

We thought that with the promoted teams last season. I think Burnley will fair the best of the promoted teams, but Luton were a tough team to beat...at least in the Championship.

      Morris
      Trippier
      Gusto

    Thoughts on this ?

    A- Mitoma over March
    B- Start Nkunku over Macallister
    C- Other suggestions

    Onana
    Gabriel, Estu, Trent
    Martinelli, March, Saka, Bruno, Macallister
    Wissa, Haaland

    Travers, Nkunku, Baldock, Beyer

Would definitely start Nkunku over Mac if you have him.

Mitoma is the popular choice but March has to be a pretty good option and would be the differential.
