The celebrations from the players, Arteta and fans certainly doesn’t give the feeling that this was a friendly. Think it’s lame to say CS is only a glorified friendly. It means to everyone involved!

They went into win as did city players

It’s always good to win no matter what. If someone is competitive they want to win everything.

      1. Thanos
        • 4 Years
        2 years, 8 months ago

Exactly. This is professional sport and not FIFA. Yet, I see some fans on FFS and even on Twitter moaning that CS means zilch. Perhaps it’s not as big the PL but still record books of winners are kept. Blows my mind to hear whiners.

I'm not disputing that. Good teams want to win every game, no matter what the stakes are. Fergie used to use it as a barometer for player fitness.

Then how is it a friendly? I think it’s as serious as it gets. Look at the team sheets, the tactics, substitutions, gameplay, involvement, etc. It’s as good as any competitive final.

Because nobody cares about the outcome. Putting it on the level as proper finals, even the League Cup, is laughable.

If you think nobody cares about it, look at those Arsenal fans jumping up and down in joy as Ode lifted the trophy. Maybe it means less to you but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t mean a whole lot to lot of others.

Now you are conflating two things. Parading has nothing to do with CS not being a friendly. These are two different things.

You’re saying people would care about it as much as any other trophy, which is inherently false.

There’ll be no parade for this because it’d be seen as hilariously tinpot, and rightfully so.

yeh the only reason it has less hype is because it's played PRE season.

Imagine the same game, same rules and criteria, being played AFTER the CL final every year or around that time.

                the hype would be endless.

Changing the timing of the game doesnt make it a friendly. "friendly" has criteria associated to it by both FIFA and UEFA.

Try to violate them see what happens.

          It's literally not.
Friendlies can be played anytime, anywhere, between any 2 teams that decide, and doesnt include a regulated UEFA trophy which is in the same archetype of all European leagues.

That's what a friendly literally is.

Well it answered the Nkeitah question. Wonder how many teams will be in for him tomorrow?

Didn't really, Arteta won't make the same lineup for Forest that he does for City. Everyone sets up more defensively against City

FYI this link (posted by Wrong Captain Choice earlier - thanks!) still works if you want to watch the replay of the Brighton game:

Many more to come and already 1 more trophy that most teams this season will win. In fact the trophies will be between Arsenal and City, the others can sit back and watch

Odegaard potentially on pens, will see if it’s mentioned in the presser this week

Why would he? Saka scored his.

The last two shootouts, Odegaard has taken the first one and converted well. Saka missed his last 2 pens before today and has a history with them as we know.

Maguire used to bang in penalties for us in shootouts and Bruno would sometimes miss. Managers don't just chop and change pen takers willy-nilly, especially over friendlies and especially after the usual taker just scored one in a shootout?

Jeez you’re argumentative. Maguire did not take the first penalty for Man United, ever. Saka is not very good at taking penalties. It’s a wait and see, like my comment said, that’s all.

Is it argumentative to say you're spouting nonsense based on nothing? There's never been a rule that says the designated penalty-taker takes the first one - they're on the 5th one if anything, like when Salah and Ronaldo didn't get the chance to go because their teammates missed.

Yes it is, you need to get a life instead of spending it on here replying to every comment so aggressively.

The best takers go first in Arteta’s team. I support Arsenal, a lot of Arsenal fans don’t want Saka taking them anymore. It’s not based on nothing, cause I explained my reasoning (of possibility). So go and get some fresh air kid

Odegaard went first in the Europa semi and Saka stayed on them, even after missing since, so why would it change now?

“Get a life” for asking someone to explain themselves thoroughly, think you need to calm down.

      Not true.

      1. Stones is in great form, locked in for me.
      2. Arsenal mid stil adapting to Rice but Odegaard is playing deeper. A no go for me.
      3. Haaland is miles off it but than again who's risking it?
      4. Havertz definitely as far away from my team as possible.

      Foden will be rotated.

There’ll probably be rotation in the Arsenal attack and can’t rely on a start for Trossard or Havertz (or even Martinelli and especially Nketiah)

Looked pretty dangerous first half, probably the best Arsenal attacker
