for anyone wondering how chelsea are bending UEFA rules with regards huge contracts that almost amount to an entire players career..

This is why it's an absolute no brainer to join them rather than Liverpool at the moment and as a bonus you can live in London rather than Liverpool.

yep but the downside is a player like mudryk (who could still work out) could now be on chelseas books for another 7 years and not have to kick a ball if he's frozen out by Pocche. they can just run down their contracts and still get huge wages with no incentive to leave (other than wanting to do what they supposedly love to do-play football)

It's not actually bending the rules is it ? It's playing astutely within them. Every other club not UEFA competition is free to do the same until PL rules are amended

This only works till they qualify for a UEFA competition, which will be next season - after that, unless the Saudi clubs bail them out, they will be in a sticky situation. Flip side to that is they may have the squad they need to compete for the next few years already on their books.

That article you linked shows how they're following the rules, not 'bending' any rules at all.

ha right ok sematics they are playing completely within the rules , bending doesnt mean breaking by the way. getting around the rules?

So your complaint is actually that they're following the rules but you don't like it because they're signing players that Liverpool can't attract.

ha who said it was a complaint? it was merely an article posted to hopefully answer a some questions as to how chelsea are doing this . why did the guy write an article about how a team are following the rules? but if your happy to push the bitter pool fan narrative ...

well done you got me...who do you support btw? do you not think some people are beyond club allegiances at the moment and are just sick of the state of football as a whole right now? . you seem triggered by anything remotely critical of the game .your right, chelsea haven bent the rules they have worked within them and spent a billion in close to a year. but somehow thats within FFP guidelines . i think its natural to wonder what is going on

If by "triggered" you mean "incredibly amused by whinging Liverpool fans who have become accountants and FFP experts overnight because their own club have massively embarrassed themselves in the last week or so" then yes, I'm extremely triggered.

Chelsea have been cheating for the last 20 years, City the last 15, Newcastle are starting now - that's just the way football's going these days and it's awful, but there's not a lot anyone can do about it. Only kicking off when it directly affects your club (Liverpool fans were loving City when Aguerrooooo happened, but they're suddenly concerned about all the cheating when they end up in title races with them) is just typical football hypocrisy.

youve' just said the team that managed to get caicedo and and most likely lavia have "been cheating for 20 years" yet at the same time liverpool have somehow "embarrassed' themselves in this transfer window because they cant offer caicedo or lavia a 9 year contract? that makes no sense all liverpool fans will admit our buisness has been poorly handled when it comes to a DMF but to say embarrassed is a stretch when up against a club with no limits like chelsea (who just got fined 10m btw for failing to provide complete account info during the abramovich era). and i have not just kicked off now about this now , ive been posting stuff like this for years but as i said it just fits neatly in to your bitter pool fan narrative to say that.

                      Liverpool embarrassed themselves by:

                      1. Taking forever with the Lavia deal, haggling over £5m or so when everyone knew they just had £55m windfall from Henderson/Fabinho sales.
                      2. Bidding a mental £111m for a player who didn't even want to join the club and getting knocked back.
                      3. Losing out on Lavia, a player who DID want to join, because of the disrespectful and haphazard recruitment.

It has nothing to do with 9-year-contracts - Liverpool could match the wages if they wanted to (they already showed their financial hand with the Caicedo bid), but Chelsea also have the London factor. Getting into a bidding war with a club who's shown they have no issue splashing insane sums of cash is so stupidly naive, it's quite shocking that Liverpool even bothered.

Just an overall disaster after a promising start to the window, and it's only going to end with buying Palhinha for £80m or something daft.

lol your truly living in noddyland if you think they could match their wages and those contract lengths! a 9year contract almost covers your entire career , its unheard of. uefa came up with a new rule just for chelsea because they are the only ones who are doing this. pool bid 110m, that doesnt cover the money he was going to be offered or the lenght of the contract. Chelsea are offering wages and contracts that only players who have proved themselves at a club after their first contract get(de gea , salah)and even then it wouldnt be anything near what caicedo is getting

They COULD have matched his wages if they wanted - it probably would have ruined their wage structure, assuming he'll be on about £300k, but they have the money.

Like I said before, stupid to get into a bidding war with a club that's financially reckless, and now it's cost them both targets. It's embarrassing whichever way you cut it.

Also, selling academy players like Mount and RLC goes down as full profit in this accounting period. Havertz was also a profit on the books.

So, for example, the 60m profit from Mount compares with only a 12m loss from Enzo, 14m from Caicedo, 10m from Mudryk, etc (to illustrate a point, can't remember the exact numbers). This is the way I understand it.

Gallagher, as an academy player, might also be sold for these reasons.

In addition, there's also the wage structure and Chelsea have removed high earners like Kante from the books. Lukaku will probably follow. The new players joining are on lowish but incentivised pay structure.

Salah is long term. Gibbs White scored a healthy amount of points last season and has a great fixture. GW3 fixture not good, but I have a decent bench to rotate him. Once consistent form is established by around GW4 or 5 I'll use WC anyway.

I think if you have Salah and Haaland there's still no reason not to captain Haaland at home.

    You'll still get Salah's points.

Who's more likely to score two?

It's got to be the big man.

It could pay off, but you're essentially punting on a Haaland blank.

No, i genuinely think Haaland can score 2 and Salah is more likely to get 1 with an assist.

        It's a positive play.

I also don't think Bournemouth are as bad as people like to make out.

For what it's worth i think that Bournemouth, Wolves and probably Forest as well won't get relegated.

Might boil down to whether you like big swings or not. Captaining Salah is playing NoLimit and Haaland is FixedLimit.

Salah goal plus assist is equal to haaland 2xgoals for points, so it sounds like you expect their scores to be close.

I don't think you're punting on a Haaland blank, but you're punting on Salah getting a bigger score than him which is possible even if they both get 1 return. Not impossible that they both score yet Haaland ends up on 6pts and Salah ends up on 11pts. But realistically anyone punting on Salah captaincy thinks he'll return more than once

        That's of course possible.

But for a Salah captain to really pay off, it would require a Haaland blank.

And i think the Haaland blank is less likely but let's see how Wednesday goes.

Yeah basically would say the same as Nate here. I think Pep will go for the slow, controlled approach & try not to let it get end-to-end, and without KDB that doesn't necessarily bode well for a Haaland mega-haul. Just think Salah is more likely to get 2+ attacking returns

    4. It’s gonna Ben Mee

I do believe Haaland will get something but I'm punting on Salah getting more points.

Punting on Salah outscoring Haaland has higher upside due to ownership. Even if Salah has slighy lower expected points (which he does not, according to RMT), it's still a better play.

      I'm on Salah.
      I'll still get Haaland's points.
I think Salah's chances of scoring are greater than Haaland's.

Will dig a little deeper into both sides more recent defensive stats against top 4 teams, but can't help but think the Bournemouth game will be another drumming.

What no one's pointing out in this debate is that Bournemouth are far far better organised than they were under Scottie Parker a year ago. It won't be no duck-shoot; Liverpool might get a couple and Salah might return this time, but I can see the game being almost as tight as the Newcastle-City one.

This is an important question, I agree. Thing is I do expect Bournemouth to improve substantially this year, and perhaps not only in attack. The aggressive pressing that Iraola wants to instil is as much about defending from the front as it is about scoring more. But while this might be effective against teams like WHU who could struggle to play through the press, it also looks particularly vulnerable to coming undone against elite attacks like Liverpools. That said, Rayo had an excellent record against Real & Barcelona last season so maybe he will find a way to keep it relatively tight against the top attacks, but at the moment I'd still back a big win I think

        You might be right.

        Could be 3/4-1.

Less likely to be 1 nil to Bournemouth like the last time out.

I'm considering a move for Salah which will cost me -4 but do you have any recommendations for either of these moves?

Rashford -> Salah and then either:

    a) Odegard -> 5.0 mid
    b) Watkins -> 4.5 fwd

    Turner - (Onana)
Gabriel - Estu - Chilwell (Gvardial - Baldock)
    Rashford - Odegard - Saka - Mitoma - Eze
    Pedro - Haaland - (Watkins)

    Thanks!

My recommendation is don’t do those moves and that your team is set up wrong. You have too much money tied up in subs

Downgrade Watkins and invest in a better 4th mid and sell guardiol

Salah had a good preseason and as expected had a good game against Chelsea.

Chelsea defensive double seems the route to go for the next 7 GW's. Chilwell sneaking into opositions box should see some healthy attacking returns and their new CB Disasi seems to have been given license to steam roll forward as well.

Not keen on any of their mids or forwards as yet.

Depends on the Gabriel situation. If he's out for whatever reason, it could be:

      Partey White Saliba Tomiyasu

      White Kiwior Saliba Tierney/Tomiyasu

      Or

All those who planned to go the whole year are changing their mind after 1 week. That should bring it up to about 95%.

The remaining 5% will be a bit more difficult - these are die-hard Man U fans who probably think owning Haaland is akin to shoving a swarm of wasps up their respective jacksies. However, I expect most of these to relent by GW5.

If that was the case, why risk giving him mins and potentially get an injury? Why did Arteta not replace him with like for like rather than changing tactical setup? Makes no sense the reason he did not start was due to transfer links imo

Only came on for 4 minutes.

Who knows what is going to happen. If Gabriel starts GW2 then obviously things will become clearer. It was really strange that he was on the bench and this whole tactical thing not making any sense. Let's see how it all pans out.

              4 + 9 mins extra after 90.

Why does it not make sense? Is it due Gabriel starting 73 consecutive league games? Have you considered Arsenal have more options and can change team setup depending on opponents?

Oh, that is a bit of a mess. In a single gameweek it's never good to take a hit for a defender as their average return is not going to be 4 points. One point off Baldock will probably get you a better total, then you use an FT next week.

          For a long-term injury, yes.

          Don't worry about -4.

    Steele
    Estupinan Gabriel Walker
    Saka Martinelli Rashford Fernandes Jota
    Haaland Watkins

Turner Baldock Scarlett Kabore - 0.0M ITB

Even though I feel like Gabriel will likely play against Palace, he still is a major doubt down the line so I'm thinking I need to get rid and why not this week. Ideal replacement would be Chilwell or James, but that would require a hit (also missed Chilwell price rise). Otherwise, Saliba for free. Jota also didn't have a very good game and I think he could be benched for Darwin. So...

    A) Save FT
    B) Gabriel & Jota > James & Diaz -4 pts
    C) Gabriel & Jota > Chilwell & Mbeumo -4 pts
    D) Gabriel > Saliba

I just remembered that I read the Gabriel-out leak moments before the deadline and transfered in saliva, but the website crashed when I pressed the button and I couldn't see whether it had processed until after the deadline.

The transfer DID go through, which I really didn't expect. Now...was that for the best???

    Breaking news:-
All referees involved in the Man utd match last night have been dropped for next week's Premier League games. Not that it helps Wolves any who deserved something from that game

Too late, but I guess that's good. Salisbury was dropped last season for the same reason. He shouldn't come near a VAR booth again.

Absolute robbery - Onana would have had an extra 6 points if they gave it!

Probably would have skied it with their finishing, could have easily smashed us 3 or 4-0

Lol i'd be worried if I was a united fan by that dreadful performance last night, cracks papered over for now. Wolves one of the worst attacking teams in the league and still manage 23 shots 🙂

Started slow last season so not panicking, but it was very disappointing.

As a Salah owner, I can't forget last year's LIV-BOU 9-0 and absolutely no Salah involvement. Gut will make me captain him though.
