Foden has good fixtures for a while so a solid long term pick. If his position is a big concern then go for it, I'd personally give him the Fulham game but can totally see why you wouldn't. I sold Gabriel on rotation risk so I'm maybe not being totally consistent!

Ok, might have been talked to death here already, but…is Watkins really off penalties?

    The pros:
    - Luiz took the latest one when Watkins was on the pitch
    - Watkins has a poor conversion record in the league (5/9)
    - Luiz took the one they won vs Hibs in the ECL qualifier

    The cons:
    - Against Everton, Watkins won the penalty himself; there’s a long precedent across many teams and managers that says that you don’t necessarily want to take a penalty when you were the one fouled. So we need to see the next one when Watkins wasn’t fouled to be sure
    - A poor conversion record doesn’t matter if a manager wants to build confidence in his forward getting the goals regardless
    - Against Hibs, Watkins wasn’t on the pitch for the penalty, he had been subbed off 5 mins beforehand.

Basically: we all seem to be making big assumptions based on…little or circumstantial evidence? Have I missed Emery quotes on the subject recently?

Yeah I have literally never heard this before and the only thing I have seen is the opposite with the winners being the one to take penalties (eg I think Burnley had this in their last Premier League season)

No one really knows, can't make an objective conclusion until it happens again. Same with Arsenal, Arteta seemed surprised that Saka gave up the penalty to Odegaard, so until it happens again it's all just guess work.

Puzzled by everyone ignoring/selling João Pedro - he looked great in the first game I thought, really dangerous. Playing for a great team who won 4-1 last 2 games. With Enciso injured he's more likely to play too. And he's on pens at home to West ham. And he's cheap. What am I missing?

No, he's sat deep so far. With Caicedo coming in, I thought it might be Gallagher that gets moved further forward. Passing the ball isn't his strength, but pressing the opponent's defence and attacking is.

Cant decide between Gvardiol and Udogie. Gvardiol has a much higher chance of clean sheets, but Ake lurking means he could be benched in any game. Udogie looks so attacking but spurs have been poor defensively. He looks like he has a really good chance of attacking returns
