Not strictly home and away, but I'm playing the fixtures with 4.5 keepers from Palace and Forest.

I like it. Very similar to mine.

You could always use your .5 to upgrade Nkunku to Eze depending on where they're both likely to start.

I don't know if Raya is worth the extra money given the fixtures.
You need one of Rogers and CHO to play every week which may not be the case come GW1

It's almost impossible to make a bad draft with the pricing this season! You've done well to fit in decent picks around Haaland, Salah, Isak, two premium defenders and a 5.0 keeper.

I have reservations in a couple of areas. I'm wary of Liverpool under new management - I'm holding back (same with Chelsea) until I see how they line up and perform, So I'd cry off a 6m defender for now.
Secondly, I'm not sure how Everton's defence will be impacted by the loss of Onana (conversely, he could make Konsa a better prospect). So I'm going against the grain in swerving Mykolenko's opening fixtures and I'm not hot on Pickford either.

Finally, you're trusting Forest's attack to be prolific. I see Nuno more as a defensive manager and have more faith in their (cheap) defence.

I'm all over the 4.5 defender rotation pairings this season. Forest/Brighton and Palace/Brentford are my pairings of choice at the moment, giving me differential picks in Pinnock, Barco (4.0) and possibly Aina. I'm going with Munoz at 5.0 over Andersen and rounding them off with one premium in Gvardiol - as it stands; I've just watched City play Barcelona where he resumed his LCB position from the last friendly.

Yeah I was looking at a defence that tripled up on both Brentford and Palace, took it as a sign I was tinkering too much haha

I will likely spend the extra for Munoz too but not sold on benching his attacking threat

Might still go for the Flekken Henderson/Johnstone rotation if its clear which one

I've tripled on Palace as I have Eze in my current draft. With my defensive rotation, I can bench Hendo and Munoz and start the Forest gk and Murillo/Aina/Forest 4.5. Or I can start Munoz in the tougher games - at least I have the option.

Note nobody's considering Brentford defenders (despite Flekken being quite popular) because they have LIV, CITY, TOT in the first 5. But in a rotation, a defender works well, whereas Flekken as sole keeper is harder to justify, in my book.

Never used bench boost before on gw1 but am currently going for it with this:

      Raya, Miguel,
      TAA,Gvardiol,Porro,Munoz,Barco
      Salah,Gordon,Eze,Johnson,Grealish
      Isak,Havertz,Muniz

Can anyone recommend ways to improve?

Other than Haaland and Foden, are there any other City attacking players that people are going with?

Nice team. I think there are better options than Grealish in that 6.5 role., considering he isn't nailed on in Man C's starting 11.

Bernardo seems more nailed and a Pep fav. Consistent but not explosive, returns past seasons.

MGW seems to be developing te.lkate traction.

Garnacho/Mainoo/Kudos/Hee Chan/Szosboszlai/McTominay are all interesting and differential picks too to consider.

I am 50/50 on using BB in week 1.
My advice would be to play a lot safer with picks - Wouldn't surprise me if you only had 12/13 starters with your current squad.

*Just realised your plan is probably BB in week 1 without using wildcard in week 2, in which case I wouldn't.

Thoughts on the below please. Should I downgrade Hudsoin-Odoi so I can upgrade a 4M defender to a 4.5M rotating defender. Or save the 0.5M if I want to bring in Eze?

      Miguel
      Gvardiol / Munoz / Livramento
      Salah / Gordon / Soboszhai / Johnson
      Isak / Haaland / Muniz

"Sooner or later he has to take a step. He has niggles, muscular, don't want to take a risk and lose him for three weeks. That would be a problem. 60, 70 per cent of the squad are on holiday"

Do it pretty much every season, but this is the first season I'd probably advise against it.

The rolling of up to 5FT being the main reason. Usually I find it messes with your team structure late in the season so I'm happy to be shot of the chip by then, but if you've got enough FT banked, you'll be able to redistribute the funds much easier.

Could work both ways tbf, e.g. if avoiding that whole bunch of premium(ish) English mids, and if that were to be compounded with a Haaland injury, the budget is there to really spread around the mid-pricers which kind of suits BB & early WC

    17. Eze Really?
      • 12 Years
      1 year, 10 months ago

I sometimes wonder how we decide the most productive players in FPL.
Rather than points totals, I think it important to note the gap between players.
Keepers, defenders, mids and forwards can have varying totals but the gap between a keeper could be 2 points or 30. I know this is not the case but the 100 mil budget should consider this apart from price.
TAA could win by 50 points as a defender @ 7mil. A mid who could score more points is likely to have a smaller gap.
Anyone following what I am trying to say?

      1. Ginkapo FPL

        Value over replacement player VORP

baseline of Henderson, Myko, Rogers, Pedro

How many extra points per million for your choices?

        1. Eze Really?
          • 12 Years
          1 year, 10 months ago

Trying to look at it in a different way.
We have to have a keeper and 3 defenders so, rather than points per mil, which is important if not a captain; I consider a points net projected gain. There are many mids that could outscore TAA for example, but if the points gap for a mid is minimal and one thinks TAA will have a bigger gap. It could pay to have TAA, say than Eze, Gordon etc.

Trent may well outscore a same-priced Eze over the season, but will a 4.5 defender return less than the 4.5 midfielder you'd replace him with? I think not.

            1. Eze Really?
              • 12 Years
              1 year, 10 months ago

I hear you but you mention below about the mids points gap. What I am trying to say, albeit not very well, is there are more points on hand with mids but the gaps between points is less.
No doubt Eze, Bowen, Gordon, Son, Saka etc will score higher than a premium defender, but we still need to field 4 in defense and therefore, Gabriel 150 pts to Konsa 120 pts is worthwhile for an extra 1.5 mil.
Eze to Bruno at the same price gap is less likely to be the same points margin.
              My bad in complicating things.

Sure, but to reiterate, we plan in chunks of fixtures. Some midfielders will emerge who are proper value-plus, but we can't know who they are yet. Same with defenders.
My current drafts are like all, provisional. The current plan is to hold my transfers to GW6 at which point I can play a 'mini-WC' once Arsenals fixtures turn and I'll have a good idea how Liverpool, Chelsea and others are shaping up. After that, I'm provisionally mulling over a WC around GW12. At that point, I'll be looking long-term to set my squad up and may well take on board your thoughts. My point is, thinking about season-long trends for a GW1 draft isn't in my current planning ideas.

                  1 year, 10 months ago

Yeah. I think my explanation is poor and there is no knowing what the future holds.
Sometimes I try "to think outside the box" and I over complicate.
The bottom of it all is the points gap in each position.
From your perspective. How many times have you got to 2 free transfers without the need to use one. I think it will be very hard to get to optimal transfers in the bank.
I do think regarding defenders, clean sheet potential will come more into play (not that they were common last season). Players such as Munoz, P Porro, etc., will be hard hit for bonus points.

I pretty much never find myself burning transfers. This season I'm going to have to practice unprecedented self-restraint to save up 3, 4 or 5. I'll probably fail dismally, but that's the plan!
I think the number of clean sheets will remain low like last season, which is mainly why I'm going cheap at the back as opposed to my previous strategies of big at the back.

You are the polar opposite to me. Restraint is not a method I can understand.
I have had reasonable OR's in the past taking 100 points of hits in a season. knowing I would be better if I didn't.
So the 5 transfer rule is not suited to me.
There will be few clean sheets floating around; I agree. One caveat to this, is the teams that let in goals are going to be more negatively affected in defenders. Good luck for the forthcoming season and we can touch sides after GW6 and see how we have done!

"The current plan is to hold my transfers to GW6 at which point I can play a 'mini-WC' once Arsenals fixtures turn and I'll have a good idea how Liverpool, Chelsea and others are shaping up. After that, I'm provisionally mulling over a WC around GW12."
                  ^^
Good post. I view it the same way, look at attacking small blocks of fixtures. Proactive not reactive. I find this syncs up well with jumping on players before £0.1m rises and avoids your players having price drops.

I interpret it as you saying the difference in points between a 4.5/5.0/5.5 keeper is small thus going for the cheaper option is cost--effective.
The gap between a premium and mid-price defender is wide so go for the expensive option.
The gap between midfielders separated by price points is wider still so go big. Is that it?
Don't think I agree, and you're looking at the whole season rather than small fixture-oriented chunks which is how we play in practice.

Obviously what you say must be taken into consideration, but if you can have a greater points gap with defenders than mids, it could be worthwhile. Not just thinking over the season, but the natural changes made week by week will produce a similar outcome. Also, our tendency not to use transfers at the back should also be considered.
Not saying I am right but hoping for the caveats to my thinking.
          Cheers

Following up on Konsa as a 4.5m, I think he can continue to deliver bps in tighter games - he was the most fouled defender in the league* last year, by quite a distance.

      Fouls drawn:
      Konsa 64
      RAN 53
      Veltman!? 42
      E. Royal!!? 38

*this list is weird and not at all what I would have expected for fouls drawn. But this year Konsa almost starts off on +1bps compared to every other defender on fouls drawn alone...

He's not in my squad at the moment, but I'd say he's a good pick. The secret ingredient that no one's mentioned is, for me, Onana. Everton defence's loss is Villa's gain - with him screening the defence, Villa might improve on their clean sheet record.

That could be a plus point for CS although I'm not personally a fan (too soft for the role, looking for fouls) and Luiz was more competent defensively than others game him credit for, imo.
The elephant in the room is the new European Super League, cough, sorry the expanded UCL [8 group games] and the extent to which Villa rotate for that. But Cash seems way behind Konsa now in pecking order and Konsa can fill in at CB if need be.

Yup. That's the reason I'm swerving Konsa. Your defenders from City, Arsenal and Liverpool are experience and may well be rotated in midweeks, but Villa are fresh and will give it their all.
