THIS ARTICLE HAS BEEN SUPERSEDED BY FRIDAY’S LIVE TEAM NEWS ROUND-UP

With nine Premier League teams in midweek cup action at home or abroad, there’s lots of injury news to wade through ahead of Gameweek 6.

The pre-match press conferences on Thursday and Friday will, of course, tell us a lot more on the injury front. We’ll have article round-ups on both days and a video summary, as usual.

In the meantime, this initial rundown gives an overview of all 20 Premier League sides.

Visit our team news tab and injuries and bans page for more information as the deadline nears.

Gameweek 6 injury news

NEWCASTLE UNITED V MANCHESTER CITY

The big team news from the Manchester City camp this week concerns Rodri (knee).

A casualty of Sunday’s draw with Arsenal, the Spaniard is expected to be out for a long period of time. Media reports suggest it could be a season-ending issue, although City have yet to put a timescale on it.

“Manchester City FC can confirm that Rodri has suffered a ligament injury to his right knee.

“The injury was sustained during the first half of this weekend’s 2-2 draw with Arsenal in the Premier League.

“The midfielder travelled to Spain to seek specialist consultation this week, following initial tests in Manchester.

“Assessment remains ongoing to ascertain the full extent of the injury and expected prognosis.” – Manchester City club statement on Wednesday

“Still we don’t have the definitive [answer]… will be out for a long time, a while.” – Pep Guardiola, speaking on Tuesday

Rodri joins Oscar Bobb (leg) and Nathan Ake (hamstring) on the injury list at City.

Kevin De Bruyne (thigh) isn’t expected to be out for long but Gameweek 6 may come too soon.

“I don’t know, I don’t know. Yesterday didn’t train, today I didn’t see him, so I don’t know.” – Pep Guardiola, speaking on Tuesday, on Kevin De Bruyne’s chances of featuring against Newcastle

Jamaal Lascelles (knee), Sven Botman (knee) and Lewis Miley (back) are out long term for the Magpies.

Callum Wilson (back) likely won’t be back before the October international break.

ARSENAL V LEICESTER CITY

    a) Palmer, Delap > Mbeumo, Jackson
    b) Salah, Delap > Diaz, Watkins
    c) hold

    Current front 8
    Salah, Palmer, Saka, ESR, Rogers
    Haaland, Delap, Jebbison

0.2 but either transfer would give me around 1.5itb to upgrade defense in coming GWs, likely Gabriel

Not really, could have gone to Pedro but he looks out.
Ndiaye might be an option but feel I will want to upgrade to a Solanke/Havertz/Jackson etc at some point anyway so delaying the inevitable

I don't get all these "C" responses - Delap/Jebbison looks a real weak spot & I think you have to do something there. Think I'd prefer A with Solanke instead but B is very close

Delap was a punt that has not paid off, happy with it as it allowed for Palmer but think I need to move to upgrade my forward/s but could I hold. Really trying to hold and not get trigger fingers

Almost there with wildcard. Raya development is annoying but I am coming around to the idea of a Pickford-Kepa rotation.

Final dilemma now is really just Salah + Vardy, or Saka + an upgrade (Jackson or Solanke)

    Pickford - Kepa
    TAA - Gabriel - Lewis - L.Davis - THB
    Salah - Mbuemo - Semenyo - Rogers - Dibling
    Haaland - Watkins- Vardy

    1. WVA

I'd do the Salah to Saka/Palmer move and upgrade the rest. You can easily take Salah on and upgrade your team for the better

Saka plus upgrade for me, unless your a maverick haha

I wouldn't bother with Kepa, just play Pickford - which fixtures are so scary? CRY NEW?

You could use that 0.5m as the team looks a bit thin around the edges - e.g. WCing directly into Vardy v ARS - unless you see Dibling as someone you'd want to start semi-regularly

Would go Sanchez over either Pickford or Kepa. Potentially set and forget

Which one is better? Keeping Salah.

    A) Raya, Greaves, Diaz, Jackson

Hoping for a Diaz rise and a Jota fall before Saturday morning and will switch back to Jota and hold. Think they'll both have even points over a long period. And the cash released means I can have Watkins AND TAA and still open up 6.2m or less for the 3rd forward.

    Hiya,
    A) would you risk having Lewis as a 3rd defender and having Graemes and Faes as 4th and 5th. (0 ITB)

    B) Or go for some 4.5 that plays regulary (Aiana?)

Btw, who are the 2 best 4.0 defs?

    On WC.

    Cheers

Too risky as 3rd defender imo, perfect for that 4th slot or with a an alternate 4.5 in the 4th slot but lewis with 2x 4.0's seems bad.

    This is my team

    Hendo
    Harwood-Bellis Gvard Porro
    Rogers ESR Salah Jota Eze
    DCL Haaland

    Fab Isaak Dunk Johnson

Original plan was to WC but now confused after last night footie.
Salah, Jota x 2, scored, looking good, both have reduced mins and likely to start.

Is double Arsenal attack being overlooked on WC? Ceiling might be 6 points for Saliba and Gabriel. Unless they score of course. But the next 3 you expect Arsenal to score few, making it tougher for defenders to get into the bonus. And Raya will most likely not have as many saves as he's had so far when you consider the opponents. He might be injured though so there's that...

I like the idea of Saka and Havertz, but with only 3 Fwd slots, and Haaland taking up one of them. That leaves 2 slots for lots of options:
      Watkins
      Jackson
      Havertz
      Wood
      DCL
      Solanke
      Vardy
      Delap

Especially some of the cheaper options are good budget enablers, so need at least 1 budget FWD, that leaves 1 slot really for Havertz or Watkins or Jackson

      1. Maddamotha
        • 9 Years
        1 year, 2 months ago

Yes, I agree. I just feel Havertz is more safe though. Jackson might be great, but wouldn't be suprised if he went 2-3 without scoring. Watkins is great, but Duran is lurking. Arsenal's next 3 are great, so I might just take the chance on Havertz, but we'll see. And Nkunku, might he come into the picture? Probably not for the next few, but if Jackson blanks, I feel Nkunku is close to getting a start or 2 in the PL. The others you list are good options as well!

    5. MikeS
      • 11 Years

The ceiling is certainly not 6, gabriel.. goals,.bonuses, saves etc have made returns so far anything but 6!

That's just like saying saka ceiling is 6, or even 3.. unless he scores!

      1. Maddamotha
        • 9 Years
        1 year, 2 months ago

Going by probability, defenders don't score a lot, and you don't expect them to. Gabriel scored 3 last season in PL. 2 so far. Saka is 3 top by bookmakers on who to score this week, so much more likely to score. Havertz too, in 5th place. I'm saying the probability of a high score from Saka and Havertz are higher than going with defenders, but just my opinion.

Can't get my head around this DCL love. Great fixtures but has anyone seen him play. He's one of the worst finishers I've ever seen in the premier league. May as well go with the cheaper Leicester guy . Pens are few and far between. DCL has poor assist potential too. I'd rather rise with Wood

I guess Solanke is not a GREAT pick now, but consider okay as most does not want to waste a transfer to get him later

          cheers

I can see the Solanke appeal but agree. I'll get him in 2 weeks. Jackson should outscore him and points are more important than transfers

    Which one?
    A) Raya + VDB (bench) + Jackson
    B) Sanchez + Collins/another 4.5 + Watkins

I just think the upside of Semenyo over the next 2. Someone who shoots a lot more is there for the taking. Especially on a wildcard

Is there anyone here that is keeping Salah on WC?

I'm kind of tempted to do it just because no one I know is gonna try it. Having one of the best players in the game as a differential is mighty tempting.

      Worthy if you cap him.

      I’m keeping.

To me it feels like we’re back to GW1 again and everyone is insisting only one of Salah & Haaland works.

Over the first 5 I’ve seen Haaland only, Salah only & both teams do well.

My sacrifice is no Trent and a 4.5mid (who I’ll never play anyways).

Hasn’t left any of my WC drafts. Wolves are rock bottom and look shambolic defensively.

What's so pleasing still with this season, not everyone's wildcard is exactly the same.

If I was on WC I'd be seriously considering triple Arsenal defence for example to differentiate further.

All I'm hoping for this weekend is a Carvalho start, he's not in this week's wildcards at all & I think he could be absolutely quality for 4.8m.

Chelsea are a weird one, can't decide if they are on it or not. Their fixtures are as bad as anyone over the next 6 and yet you can't say Jackson and Palmer are bad options.

It's such a weird week for loads to sell Salah as well, Chelsea scored six (6) away at Wolves and Wolves have their first choice CB out for the season. Jota and Diaz could easily punish equally.

Villa defence surprises me, because they are a good team doesn't mean they have a good defence. I can guarantee right now over the season Man Utd will have more clean sheets than Villa. Not that suddenly Man Utd are quality mind.

Dibling is the best 4.5m and if you have Semenyo you should have him as your 8th attacker.

If you wildcarded next week would you be considering players like Barnes?

    My WC would be:

    Onana
    Timber Saliba Gabriel Trent
    Mbeumo Jota Diaz
    Haaland Watkins Wood

    4.0 Carvalho Dibling Lewis

    Play it your way

chelsea fixtures are bad?? they have two nice home games before IB against brighton and forest who just shipped a couple of goals each against one another

I think Chelsea's fixtures are bad tbh. I don't think Brighton and Forest are good games. Brighton haven't lost a game yet this season and Forest's defense managed to keep out Liverpool away from home.

Carvalho is in most of my WC drafts however...

I just saw that Semenyo and Dibling rotate amazingly for the next few weeks.

Semenyo has SOU lei ARS avl MCI
Dibling's fixtures for the ARS and MCI games are LEI and EVE.

I think I'll just go Dibling and then I can always upgrade to Carvalho at some point down the line or Carv will be my Semenyo or Rogers replacement at some point if he is indeed insane value.

I was always reluctant on spending so much on Raya - feels like this might be a good excuse to avoid.

Who are you going for if not Raya? Sanchez? Back to Henderson/Areola/Flekken for saves?
