STARTING SEVEN
GOALKEEPER
In between the sticks I have backed Fleetwood Town’s number one, David Harrington (D). He has managed six clean sheets (+30) this season and the upcoming small double seems like a great chance for the number one to secure a significant return. Fleetwood Town have conceded just two goals in their last three matches, which suggests a clean sheet bonus (+5), as well as an abundance of save contributions could be on the cards.
DEFENDERS
The first of my defensive picks is with Swansea City’s Ben Cabango (D). The Swans defender has provided multiple defensive masterclasses this season and managed a ten-point haul across the Double Gameweek 16. That was his sixth double-digit display of the season and with Portsmouth (H) up next for the Swans, I think a clean sheet alongside multiple defensive contributions looks likely.
Alongside him, I have backed Watford’s Ryan Andrews (D). The young defender has played a pivotal role in the backline success of the Hornets, providing multiple defensive contributions. He has also posed a serious threat at the top end of the pitch, with three goals (+21) and two assists (+6) to his name. Andrews was the difference in the Hornets’ latest outing, where they made it 12 games unbeaten at Vicarage Road, with a 1-0 victory over Bristol City. Andrews was responsible for the only goal of the match, contributing to his incredible 17-point haul. Another home tie, which comes against QPR, could allow Watford to secure another home victory and a clean sheet (+5) and attacking contributions are likely against their poor defence.
MIDFIELDERS
Making up the midfield is Watford’s Giorgi Chakvetadze (M) and Peterborough United’s Kwame Poku (M).
The Hornets playmaker has been scintillating to watch in the Championship but his end product is where he has struggled and that is why his popularity in Fantasy EFL is not as high as other midfield assets. The Georgia international did secure an assist (+3) in their last outing, but a home tie against QPR should enable him to be amongst the goals; he has just one (+6) to his name this season. His ownership stands at just 1.2% and is a nice differential this week.
Moreover, Poku has been excellent for The Posh this season. The winger managed just two points in Gameweek 16, but his display against Cambridge United was unbelievable and provided his backers with an outstanding 29-point haul! A home tie against Burton Albion awaits and this should enable the winger to get back amongst the goals to justify his popularity of 11.1%. Averaging 7.9 points, he’s a certain for me.
FORWARDS
At the top end of the pitch, I have opted for the balance of one single Gameweek asset, alongside a doubler: Ronan Coughlan (F) of Fleetwood Town and Norwich City’s Borja Sainz (F).
Fleetwood’s talisman has registered six goals (+36) and one assist (+3) this season and with two fixtures across Gameweek 17, he has twice the chance to secure a significant points return this week. Furthermore, Coughlan has secured goals across the last two fixtures, so is in high-flying form – and that is why he takes the armband for me this week!
Alongside him is Sainz, who has been incredible for the Canaries this season. The Spaniard has managed 14 goals (+70) in the Championship this season and with Luton Town his next opponent, he has a great chance of securing another double-digit haul. The Hatters go into this match off the back of a 3-0 defeat to Leeds United. Whereas, Norwich go into it after hitting six past Plymouth Argyle. Therefore, one squad is full of confidence and the other is extremely low on it. For that reason, I can see this fixture ending only one way: a home victory.
CLUB PICKS
The two club picks this week were extremely straightforward: Fleetwood Town and Colchester United.
Due to FA Cup action, they are the only sides doubling this week, facing each other and then other opponents during the midweek ties. Both sides are unbeaten in three matches, so a draw could be on the cards when they face each other. If they can also win their second fixtures, then the potential across the Double Gameweek 17 is huge, as opposed to sides that only feature once.
Fleetwood host Doncaster Rovers in their second meeting, which will be a tough tie, but considering their current form, they could certainly secure a win against them.
On the other hand, Colchester should have a better chance of securing points in their second fixture, with them hosting Swindon Town – who have not won since Gameweek 10.
