    Hi guys,

I have 4 FTs & 2.5m in the bank so lots of flexibilty but dont know where to use it as I like my big money players tbh

    Pickford, Vlad
    Gabriel, TAA, Colwill, Mazraoui, Greaves
    Salah, Palmer, Foden, Rogers, Diallo
    Isak, Wood, Pedro

Players I'm looking at moving out are Colwill, Mazraoui, Diallo, Pedro but other than Aina I dont see anyone who would be a big upgrade? Any suggestions?

And out of those 4 who would you prioritise getting out?

No overhaul required. Pedro to Wissa or Mateta maybe? Colwill to Munoz an option.

Just keep ticking over and using FTs sparingly here and there until you hit 5.

Good team. I would certainly get Aina as you say, and just save the rest. There will come a time where those extra transfers will give you more of an upper hand than now

Thoughts about getting Gakpo in before Pool double? Do you think Jota back will reduce his minutes

Jota, diaz, gakpo rotation for left wing and striker positions

Yes but if you feel Gakpo scores more, go for it in my opinion. No point going with the sheep.

I ditched Raya for Sels, but I see you got Milenkovic. You might wanna do Alisson like the cool kids for the dgw, but I just don't see it.

    Wood or Wissa going forward?

Granted Wood has the best fixture in 22, but Wissa has the better fixtures 23 onwards?

Also will Wood's over performance sustain? Hardly has a shot or two at max a game.

Wissa looks dangerous everytime Brentford play.

Raul and Isak are my other 2 forwards and I don't own Mbuemo.

So, Potter, Amorim or Postecogleu look like very good assistant manager punts at the moment, due to current league position.

Neither of them consistent enough to rely on wins for 3 GWs. Could transfer all 3 between GWs to increase chances.

    Raya - Valdimarsson
    TAA - Gabriel - Ait-Nouri - Colwill - Bednarek
    Salah - Palmer - B. Fernandes - Rogers - Enzo
Isak - Mateta - Joao Pedro

One point behind the safety score with Gabriel, Raya, Bruno, Cunha and Isak to go. Will probably finish the gameweek at around the same OR. You?

I debated Palmer (he is my VC) and Bruno as captain but decided to play it safe with mr consistency as I am not chasing. Good move - congrats!

I agree with GreenRed that C is a good move too but I think Diaz is too risky in terms of rotation now Jota is also back. They have a million players for 2 positions. Therefore, holding for the double and putting up with benchings between now and then just means foregoing points for the possibility of him being benched for one of the two games when you consider Liverpool have cup matches around those two matches too

4 CS in Newcastle's last 5; granted they have struggled against Bournemouth recently but their injuries up top should boost CS odds. Muñoz mainly for attacking threat. Like the fixture for Enzo. Fabianski... not the best but if you don't want to carry 2 expensive GKs I think it's fine.

    Afternoon all!

    Am definitely set on getting rid of Jackson and Colwill / Lewis, but unsure who for;

    Sels
    Gabriel TAA Lewis
    Salah Palmer Bruno Rogers
    Isak Wood Jackson

    2 FT and 0.1 ITB

Stuck between Aina / Hall / Munoz and maybe Mateta / Wissa / Solanke?!!

No idea so any suggestions are much appreciated!

For what it’s worth I have Isak, Cunha and Wissa for my front line and I don’t like Mateta. I also have both Aina and Hall. Aina and Sels means a double up which is not necessarily bad but does mean you have all your eggs in one basket and Hall will likely have a blank in GW29.

I am very happy with Wissa. Tough game on paper this week but plays well at home and passes the eye test so scored against a leaky City team. Next week another tough game on paper but again on home to a recently relatively leaky defence so I am hoping he will get an attacking return, even if Brentford lose. Then the fixtures turn. Aina has Southampton next week. Good chance of a clean sheet and maybe an attacking return.

Do we get the money back if we use the assistant manager chip? What happens if we pay one week 0.8m and then the next week want a 1.5m manager? Do we pay the difference or pay a further 1.5m and do we get this money back too (assuming we get the initial money back, which is my understanding).

Cheers mate. This helps inform where I play the chip. I was seriously debating last three game weeks as I won’t need the money after and some of the lower ranked teams will be fighting for survival against already on holiday teams, plus I wouldn’t need the money after GW38. If we get the cash back though this may change my thinking. Need to mull it over mate. What’s your take on it?

          1. Zidane's Floor
            • 3 Years
            1 year, 2 months ago

I am currently on the last 3

Mainly because I’m waxing before to make it easier to avoid a triple up and allocate funds

Also, the end of the season is prime for those fighting for top 4 or relegation to pull off results

Also don’t need to re allocate funds at the end of the season as you say

I’m 90% on that strategy, something major would have to change like Mouringo taking over a lower down team

            1. The Big Fella
              • 9 Years

This is where I am too. If I’m chasing I can gamble on a lower ranked club fighting for survival and if I am further up the OR I can go for a top 5-6 team fighting for top 4. It also means I can learn from other people’s mistakes as many will have used it by then. Need to chew on it.

Yeah good point about learning from others

It will also depend on the state of play at the end of the season

The relegation fight might be decided so it’d have to be a top 4 team

Don’t think too much, it’s a long way away

                Take it as it comes

Thing is, someone else's mistake might not be a mistake later in the season. For example if Moyes outscored Slot by a large amount in GW24-26, it doesn't mean history will repeat itself later in the season. It's basically a game of gambling on results going your way. What happens now really has no bearing on what will happen later.

But as for what I will do, I'm thinking on just using the chip early on Slot in 24. I don't agree that it's a waste of the chip to use on a top manager. You could equally waste the chip on a lower team and end up getting 0 points.

That’s not the only kind of mistake one can make. This is the first time we have used this chip and seeing when other people use it and how it goes for them gives us information to assess when we best think it used

Has anyone mined all the data on the Assistant Manager stuff for the season yet? i.e. worked out what score every manager would have got for every game so far?

Reason I ask, I’ve seen loads of chat about the top end of the range (Iraola’s 47) and how Slot’s best score is “only” 34, but my suspicion is that we may have a generally inflated idea of what points to expect. I’ve seen nobody talk about what the lower end of possibilities looks like, or what the average is….

A few examples I dug out below. …

    - The lowest score is 1 point! Nobody has scored zero. Southampton would have got a single point across the first 3 fixtures, and again across 14-16, and again across 18-20. Leicester manage this across 16-18, too.

    - Pep, GW 9-11 vs Southampton, Bournemouth and Brighton. (1-0, 1-2, 1-2) would have got 10 points. This was the point at which their season went down the toilet. Had you activated Pep in GW11 instead you’ve have been joining the 1-point club.

    - An interesting run is Spurs GW15-17. They beat Southampton 5-0, sandwiched between two losses: 4-3 to Chelsea, 6-3 to Liverpool. No underdog bonus, two losses… but that clean sheet and 11 points from goals scores gets them up to 19 points in total. Not amazing but not a washout, either. Teams who score goals even in losses provide a bit of extra insurance.

    - Fulham, GW14-16 is a good case study of an upper mid table team getting some good results (3-1 win vs Brighton, 1-1 and 2-2 draws with Arsenal and Liverpool respectively. A couple of underdog bonus draws, for a total of 28 points. They do even better GW16-18 because they beat Chelsea for 16 points, draw with Chelsea, and a 0-0 with Southampton for 33.

    - Iraola is the poster boy for the underdogs. His big scoring run was GW8-10 vs Arsenal, Villa, City. Question is, has he come close to this again? They had a great run 13-15, three wins against teams in/around them, scoring 7 and keeping 1 clean sheet in the process. That’s 27 points: respectable, but a whole 20 points less than their best run. I haven’t run all the numbers but my suspicion is that this will have been Iraola’s second-best run.

    - Looking at another underdog on a good run, Wolves, GW10-12 vs Palace, Southampton, Fulham (2-2, 2-0, 4-1) Fulham is the big win here, underdog bonus in a high scoring game, 20 points alone for that game. 35 points for this run in total

    - Finally, looking for predictably good runs of results: Arteta, GW17-19 vs Palace, Ipswich, Brentford (5-1, 1-0, 3-1) No bonus obviously, but loads of goals, would “only” have scored 29 points. (I suspect when the dust settles this will actually be a very respectable result.) And Slot has plenty of runs where he’s scoring around the 30 mark or higher, just steady away.

Bit of a long post but my overall thinking is:

    - A high-scoring underdog is the dream, but it may be just that… 24 weeks into the season, the table doesn’t lie for the most part. Underdogs are underdogs because they’re not winning many games and not scoring many goals, so another Iraola style 47 is unlikely in my view.

    - I expect an average score for the chip, played well, will be in the 24-34 range, and that anyone pushing 40 has done incredibly well. (Probably has to involve a DGW)

    - To my mind there are two plays… a top 5 team with a run where they’re likely to steamroller at least a couple of teams; or a mid-table side with 2 x easy games and 1 x more challenging where they could pull of a semi-shock.

    - Including a double is going to get you the most points out of THIS chip, however if you have TC/BB available, I’d be surprised if the AM outscores either. If you get 8-10 points from a game via the AM chip you’re doing very well – appearance points alone from a BB could well outscore this.

"A high-scoring underdog is the dream, but it may be just that…"

I agree with this sentiment, lots of people seem to be (correctly in my opinion) wanting to hold AM chip until the last few gameweeks. But if you're chasing at that stage and you've still got this chip to play I can see a lot of people going for glory and getting zilch.

Yeah, as ever it will depend on personal circumstances: it will depend whether a steady 25-30 points is going to give you enough of a boost to catch whoever you're chasing, or if you need a Hail Mary.

      1. Jönny
        • 16 Years

That was actually what inspired the post...

"In a three-game block, the best Slot has done is register 34 points. This is bettered by four other bosses. "

My argument is that just looking at the absolute best scenario is entirely the wrong way of looking at this chip. 34 is likely to be a very good score, and Slot is likely to score around that mark much more regularly than managers in the middle/bottom of the table are.

West Ham - Fulham was a bonus game for West Ham. 3-2 was 19 points. A 2-2 would've been 10 points.
Pregame WHU had ~40% chance of winning according to Elevenify and ~33% according to bookies
Both Elevenify and the bookies give Newcastle ~70% of winning tonight.

It's way more complex than this but...
      WHU-FUL 40% chance of 16 points
      NEW-WOL 70% chance of 6 points
If you're thinking, "yeah, but what are the chances of getting nothing" you're not playing to win, you're playing not to lose.

As things stand TOT/MUN vs Villa/BOU/NFO will do for bonus. Or a Wolves vs. Brenford or Fulham.
You don't have to go against Arsenal or Liverpool.

      1. Jönny
        • 16 Years

Very good way of thinking about it. There's definitely a sweet spot where an improving team (main candidates at the moment look to be Everton, West Ham, Wolves) come up against a mid-range team who are *just* 5 or 6 places above them in the table. Or a team who are lower in the table due to being streaky, rather than outright terrible... chances are you can catch at least one of their better results in the mix. Spurs are interesting here as they do at least score goals.

That's kind of what I'm alluding to in the second of the two options I mention towards the end of my post. That could be where the big outlier scores are. If I don't go for a Slot/Arteta type, I'll be looking for someone like this who plays 1-2 x winnable/drawable bonus games, and 1-2 x games that they should really be winning (i.e. vs Southampton/Leicester!)
