Spot the Differential puts the spotlight on three players who all have an ownership of 5% or less in Fantasy Premier League (FPL).

This time, we’ve selected low-owned picks at Tottenham Hotspur, Nottingham Forest and Manchester United, who we think have the potential to make an impact.

PAPE MATAR SARR

Is Sarr the answer to Spurs' problems - and a good FPL pick? 1

  • FPL ownership: 2.8%
  • Price: £5.0m
  • GW3-7 fixtures: BOU | whu | bha | WOL | lee

Pape Matar Sarr (£5.0m) looks like a player reborn under new Tottenham Hotspur boss, Thomas Frank.

Currently sitting in just 2.8% of FPL squads, he’s the only central midfielder to have started all three of Spurs’ competitive games this season.

In last weekend’s 2-0 win at the Etihad Stadium, Sarr pushed up right alongside centre-forward Richarlison (£6.7m), as you can see in the image below:

Prior to that, from a deeper role, he provided the assist for Brennan Johnson’s (£7.1m) strike against Burnley.

Sarr’s position and the extent of attacking freedom afforded to him will vary based on the opponent, but his capacity to make late runs into the box will remain.

It’s also worth noting Sarr has nearly reached the defensive contributions (DefCon) threshold in both matches this season, with 10 (BUR) and nine (mci).

While it’s Johnson and Mohammed Kudus (£6.6m) who are understandably dominating most FPL managers’ thoughts when assessing Tottenham’s midfield options this week, there is certainly value to be found elsewhere, particularly in the case of Sarr.

It suggests he could be the perfect differential enabler, with Spurs facing very favourable fixtures beyond Saturday’s home clash with Bournemouth.

DAN NDOYE

  • FPL ownership: 2.6%
  • Price: £6.0m
  • GW3-7 fixtures: WHU | ars | bur | SUN | new

Arriving from Bologna in a deal worth £34m this summer, Dan Ndoye (£6.0m) appears to be the perfect winger for Nottingham Forest.

The Swiss international has the ability to provide quality crosses into target man Chris Wood (£7.7m), while he also possesses reasonable goal threat, having scored eight times in 30 Serie A appearances in 2024/25.

Ndoye, who provided the assist for Callum Hudson-Odoi’s (£6.0m) equaliser last week, should be presented with further opportunities to get amongst the points against a West Ham United side that allowed seven big chances in their 5-1 defeat to Chelsea, the most of any team in a single match this season.

Looking further ahead, Nuno Espirito Santo’s side face newly-promoted Burnley and Sunderland in Gameweeks 5 and 6:

For a team not known for its attacking play, Forest have totalled a very respectable six big chances across their first two matches (see image below), with Ndoye playing a direct role in two of these clear-cut opportunities.

It suggests a punt on the overlooked winger, who undoubtedly has the fixtures to excel, could pay off.

Above: Team sorted by big chances (BCT) in 2025/26

MATTHIJS DE LIGT

  • FPL ownership: 3.2%
  • Price: £5.0m
  • GW3-7 fixtures: BUR | mci | CHE | bre | SUN

Although Patrick Dorgu (£4.5m) has attracted the majority of transfer interest this season, his Manchester United teammate Matthijs de Ligt (£5.0m) is a viable alternative.

The Dutchman has banked DefCon points in both matches of the 2025/26 season:

He’s yet to record any attacking points; however, he did take three shots against Arsenal in Gameweek 1 and poses a significant threat from set plays.

Additionally, de Ligt secured three bonus points in the recent match against Fulham, thanks in part to six clearances, including one off the line.

The United centre-back is currently sitting in just 3.2% of FPL squads, but with clean sheet potential in three of the next five Gameweeks (BUR, bre, SUN), along with the capacity to accumulate DefCons in the other two (mci, CHE), he could prove to be a valuable differential asset.

United players admittedly won’t appeal to everyone following their unexpected midweek defeat to Grimsby Town in the Carabao Cup; however, in regard to de Ligt, there is at least rationale behind the selection.

Agree. Would go for Newcastle/Spurs mix or Sarr/Semenyo. Would just do A as looks a more long term injury then Palmer and Arsenal fixtures look tricky anyway.

Garnacho being right-footed on the LW creates a different dynamic compared to the left-footed Neto

Isak to Liverpool will really mess up my offence. Gakpo & Ekitke minutes reduced.

Hope Ekitike scores a hat trick v Arsenal and Liverpool decide they don't need to send 150m right now when they can have Isak for free next summer. Dont see why they wouldnt wait until next year anyway for a free!!

There's a FIFA rule thta allows Isak to become a free agent approx 10 days after the end of this season. Forogt what it was. Something about restraint of freedom of movement in the labor market.

what alternatives do they have? This 16yo kid. Chiesa and his glass legs. Wirtz can play either position occasionally and that's fine but not the answer all season in multiple comps. They probably don't need Isak as a starter but if you've got the money to do it why would you settle for something less? Mo going off to afcon too. They aren't very well stocked.

Bad start as always it seems. 2FT. What to do first Sell Palmer, Mitoma, Adingra, Or Bowen. Or two? Think Adingra has a decent fixture this week, and plan to keep Palmer if he is fit.

    Sanchez
    Porro, Munoz, Milenkovic
    Salah, Palmer*, Mitoma, Adingra
    Watkins, Wood, Bowen

My current team is below, thinking of these three transfers for a -4 as all three players I would bring in have good fixtures.

Good moves or maybe doesn’t need all three?

Wirtz, gyokeres and guiu > kudus, wood and Pedro

    Sanchez (dubravka)

    Murillo Porro Andersen (dorgu, esteve)

    Salah fernandes wirtz rogers reijnders

    Watkins gyokeres (guiu

I don't know if he'll get the gametime to show it at Chelsea necessarily but I suspect in this market 40m is pretty good for Garnacho. Still only just turned 21, feels like he's been around forever

If he's on most set pieces then he's significantly better, but if Kudus takes some / most of them, off him then I don't think he's worth the extra 1.0. I want both him and VdV for the next few games (already got Porro).

That's the issue. But I don't know how and from where these teams are going to attack. He got 5 DC points vs Burnley which isn't much but still a number worth noticing. And since I have both Porro and Romero, I already "lost" those defcon points, so don't think this to be the optimal setup.

If you were to choose one? Cunha, Bruno or Mbeuma?

Not Bruno after seeing him play too deep vs Mighty Mariners.

Semenyo, although I think it's mad not having Salah or Haaland

That is what the money are for. I can get any of them at any time in single transfer

I'm thinking about doing Palmer to Semenyo.
With the money, which do you prefer?
    A) Wan Bissaka to Porro (bench VdV)
    B) Guiu to Wood (bench Tielemans)

B of those. I am not sure on spurs double def, as I really like them offensively too

True, but Porro is possibly going to be involved in attacks. VdV might go for Munoz soon.

Porro is almost 50% of an attacker(?)

    Sanchez
    Lacroix, Konsa, VDV, Milenkovic
    Semenyo, Kudus, Salah, Reijnders
    JP, Watkins

    (Dub, Rutter, Reinaldo, Guiu)

This is what I’m on after 2 FT to remove Palmer and Saka…

    A) Go with this, hope Konsa is forgiven
    B) Guiu to Wood -4, bench Konsa

I have wondered what is the way to get most "lols" here and now I believe I have found the answer. I am seriously considering giving armband to a player who hasn't managed to get any returns yet. And he is also a player who is partly at fault of losing one match.

Cunha is 2nd best C option after Haaland if market odds were to be trusted. However, this game is already on Saturday and they played yesterday and he had unexpected 90 minutes. I would be much happier if he hadn't started. Tbh I have zero idea if MU is capable to bounce back, but at least they have a point to prove at home. No matter how many they have scored, they might keep on pushing for more. Haaland I don't have and Salah vs Arsenal I can play against.

It wouldn't surprise me at all if Mbeumo ends up being the one this weekend either. Everyone's talking about Cunha which I get from the eye test, he's a fabulous footballer but I do think Mbeumo just quietly goes about his business, a bit less flashy. Ultimately they've both had some big chances to open their account for Man Utd. They are both very capable as obviously is Bruno. Who knows maybe Sesko starts and bags a hat-trick.

I agree here. Mbeumo also scored one vs Mariners. He takes 50% of the corners also. However he spent too much time too wide imo. I originally thought Mbeumo to be better pick than Cunha, but after watching highlights of their last game decided to pick Cunha, partly because of the price rise. Tbh, now I wouldn't pick either and Bruno has to go if he plays deep and blanks vs Burnley.

£1.5m left over on this wildcard squad, any changes needed?

    Sels, Dubravka
    Cucurella, Munoz, VdV, Esteve, Gudmon
    Salah, Gakpo, Semenyo, Kudus, Reijnders
    Ekitike, Wood, Pedro

I don't like Ekitike vs Arsenal (especially with Gakpo in the team) and Isak looking more likely to ruin the party, possibly even for both Liv assets.
