International breaks always generate an injury scare or two – and this one is no different.

Already, we’ve seen Enzo Fernandez (£6.7m), Pedro Neto (£7.1m), Mohammed Kudus (£6.5m), Benjamin Sesko (£7.3m), Anthony Gordon (£7.4m) and Nick Pope (£5.2m) withdraw from their respective national team squads without kicking a ball.

Marc Guehi (£5.1m) followed them on Friday, having reported for England duty but failing to prove his fitness.

And now, a concern over the most-owned defender in Fantasy Premier League (FPL): Gabriel Magalhaes (£6.6m).

GABRIEL INJURY – HOW AND WHEN DID IT HAPPEN?

Gabriel was featuring in Brazil’s first match of the November international break, a friendly against Senegal.

For once, he didn’t have to go far to represent Seleção – this kickabout was contested at the Emirates!

The Arsenal stopper started Saturday’s game in north London, getting through the first 61 minutes before injury struck.

It was either the stretching midfield tackle that Gabriel attempted on Nicolas Jackson or the subsequent sprint back to goal that did it, with FPL’s top-scoring defender clearly in discomfort and clutching his thigh as he hobbled towards Brazil’s penalty area.

A couple of minutes of treatment followed before he limped gingerly from the field of play, with Wesley replacing him.

WHAT DID CARLO ANCELOTTI SAY?

Brazil head coach Carlo Ancelotti faced the media after full-time, confirming that it was indeed a thigh injury that Gabriel had sustained.

“That I don’t know. He had a problem on his adductor, the medical staff has to check tomorrow. We are really sorry for this, really disappointed when a player has an injury. I hope that he can recover well and soon.” – Carlo Ancelotti on how bad Gabriel Magalhaes’ injury is

WHAT HAVE WE HEARD SINCE?

Gabriel has since departed the Brazil squad, meaning he didn’t feature against Tunisia on Tuesday.

And the usually reliable David Ornstein has claimed that the centre-back could be facing 1-2 months out – but that tests are ongoing:

WHEN WILL WE HEAR MORE ABOUT GABRIEL’S INJURY?

Mikel Arteta – not known for his open and honest team news updates – may give us the latest in his pre-Gameweek 12 presser on Friday.

Our best bet for more information, however, could be sources like Ornstein above.

NO RUSH TO TRANSFER OUT?

From an FPL perspective, there’s no immediate rush to transfer Gabriel out.

The centre-back is not anywhere near a price drop, according to LiveFPL’s price change predictions:

Remember that Gabriel previously had muscular discomfort against Atletico Madrid last month before making a swift recovery for the match against Crystal Palace five days later.

This injury seems more serious but it’s not 100% confirmed yet that he’s going to be sidelined.

ANOTHER ARSENAL DEFENDER CONCERN…

Gabriel wasn’t even the first Arsenal defensive injury of the weekend.

Riccardo Calafiori (£5.8m) exited the Italy camp, along with Newcastle United’s Sandro Tonali (£5.4m), thanks to a hip complaint.

There’s reportedly not too much concern over Calafiori, however, so Gabriel is the biggest worry.

Gabriel was due to rise yesterday, shame. And Alisson was due to drop for a week, now has price reset to zero.

Not much to follow during IB besides the price changes, I guess.

Doubt Arteta will give us anything. It’s a hold. Not sure I can say the same about Guehi. Upgrade to Munoz seems the better play

At least Esteve finally fell so I could justify my early transfer to Richards! Ha I'll probably do Twanzebe to Keane next vs Newcastle at home, or maybe O'Reilly or Nunes vs Leeds at home. Kinda think Nunes is being slept on, seems to have a whole less competition for his slot.

    Gab/Cal & Guehi owner here
I'm considering playing FH next week if all 3 look like being out .
It could be a good week to do it to ride out the injuries until we get more news .
Plus can build a really strong FH team .

  14. The Tonberry

Surprised that so many are selling Woltemade. His fixtures are really good from GW14 onwards.

Haaland and Mateta aside, there aren't many better alternatives up front. Thiago has Brighton, Arsenal and Spurs away in their next 3 - and Brentford have looked far better at home than away.

I'll probably stick with Woltemade against City, and FH in 13 when Thiago has Burnley at home. Then have Woltemade back for the good run of fixtures after.

    1. HammerSandwich
      8 months, 4 days ago

Are they that good? Apart from Burnley in 15 it's top-seven sides from 14-18. Nice five-match run from 19, definitely.

Agree that Brentford's next four (Bur aside) aren't much better though!

Wissa back soon? You'd think if he is there's a mutual benefit to the player with getting him fit for afcon and to the club of reducing the load on Wolte before afcon when he'll get flogged. To be honest even ignoring Wissa the hooking at h/t the other week was enough for me, way too expensive for that malarky.

You compare a young but competent ManCity starter and a ManU talisman on the one side to 2 Liverpool assets on the other who as a team are out of sorts currently. The answer must be 1. However, it will be very telling what Forest will get out of their visit to Anfield. I am not touching a Liverpool assets until I see tangible results.

Could work, am leaning towards FH13 with Salah and VVD in and see, then possibly GW14 could move with using all FTs for it.

Can Salah even match Mbeumo, Saka or Bruno? Bruno prolly yes, Saka is a question mark for me. Gabi to VvD is a no brainer though. Salah has started all the games far too wide imo and been there for 70 minutes. 15-20 minutes more central role isn't enough for me. The minute he starts(!) playing closer to the box, I will prolly get him. But I need to see that first.

Gabriel, Woltemade, Enzo to Bruno, Welbeck/Thiago, Munoz??? I'm on FH 13 and not set on Thiago but not many alternatives. Thanks

On FH 13 I can afford that without selling Wolte yet. Wolte has Spurs and Burnley home after FH, I guess I want to keep him for BUR, since I can bench him now and Gabi is the obvious cash cow. Magpies away form has been abysmal, but those two are home games. Brace vs Burnley wouldn't surprise anyone.

If you bought at 6m it's worth selling for 6.3m then buying back later at 6.3m I reckon.

Gabriel walked off with the look of a man who knows he is out for some time. Doctor internet suggests 3 - 6 weeks for a moderate abductor injury.

He's definitely out for the next couple, people hanging on to value tied up is just silly unless you have a deep bench.

We will get 5 transfers and he can drop twice. The first one doesn't affect me, but I am definitely selling and banking the money.

Aye 3 weeks he might be back but Mosquera could do great and then they aren't rushing him back anyway.

People on the O’Reilly bandwagon are they not concerned by Ait-Nouri rotation now he’s back? Think he will get a fair few minutes before AFCON

I think Nunes is the better pick. Less competition.

LB - O'Reilly, Ait Nouri and Gvardiol (predominately LCB)

RB - Khusanov, Nunes and Lewis

Exactly. Khusanov is only likely to be used against some fast boy down the left, Rico Lewis ain't playing. Make my point for me nicely, thank you Tony.

Where are the CC mob going to be pushing the community towards for Gabby replacements today then after they've met to agree on it?

VvD is going to be the recommendation, don't worry. However, I need a cheapie, max 4.2 if I want to upgrade Pope to Alisson (after Enzo to Mbeumo). Who is the best option with BB with Dubravka in mind?
