After a dozen Premier League managers faced the media on Tuesday, another three more press conferences took place on Wednesday, ahead of Gameweek 18.

We should hear from the remaining five bosses in some form – be it a live press conference, a one-on-one interview or embargoed quotes from midweek – before the Boxing Day deadline.

KEY GAMEWEEK 18 INJURY NEWS FROM WEDNESDAY

  • Manchester United: Fernandes and Mainoo out, with the latter expected back first
  • Chelsea: Estevao and Delap available, Palmer ready to play 90 mins
  • Sunderland: Six players at AFCON, no new injuries, O’Nien still suspended

MANCHESTER UNITED

3.86 million Bruno Fernandes (hamstring) owners won’t have enjoyed seeing him depart Gameweek 17 at half-time.

Lots have already sold the Portuguese playmaker and more will follow, because Ruben Amorim still isn’t saying how long it’ll be until his return – not the Boxing Day hosting of Newcastle United, though.

“Not for this game. They are recovering and it won’t take a lot of time. Kobbie [Mainoo] is going to return faster than Bruno [Fernandes] but not for this game. I don’t want to say (on Bruno). I have an idea, of course, but let’s see.” – Ruben Amorim

Staying on the sidelines with him and Kobbie Mainoo (calf) are Matthijs de Ligt (back) and Harry Maguire (hamstring). At least Casemiro isn’t banned anymore, though.

“We are still working with them. They are not available for this one, let’s see for the next one.” – Ruben Amorim on Matthijs de Ligt and Harry Maguire

Meanwhile, Bryan Mbeumo, Amad Diallo and Noussair Mazraoui are on international duty.

CHELSEA

Having missed the draw at Newcastle United, Estevao (muscle) and Liam Delap (shoulder) are available to face Aston Villa.

“He’s [Estevao] back. He’s back, he’s available for Saturday, him and also Liam Delap.” – Enzo Maresca

Blues boss Enzo Maresca also believes Cole Palmer is ready to last a whole match, having seen his recovery carefully managed.

“I think he’s ready for 90 minutes, yeah. The progression for a player is 45, one hour, 70. He already played one hour against, I think, Everton. He played more than 70 against Newcastle. I think the progression is there.” – Enzo Maresca on Cole Palmer

Still out are Dario Essugo (thigh), Romeo Lavia (quad), Levi Colwill (knee) and Mykhailo Mudryk (suspended).

SUNDERLAND

Habib Diarra joins Bertrand Traore, Noah Sadiki, Arthur Masuaku, Chemsdine Talbi and Reinildo Mandava at the Africa Cup of Nations.

Defender Luke O’Nien is serving the final match of his suspension, with Aji Alese (shoulder) also absent for the match against Leeds United.

Regis Le Bris has no fresh concerns for the clash with the Whites, however.

    Happy Christmas everyone

A day or two without team news from this evening...

When will Neale teach Marc how to hyperlink the team news for each team? Not so much of an issue here, but when there are 12 plus teams, it becomes a scrolling nightmare.

I saw somewhere that Palmers had a groin problem throughout 2025 and they've been pumping him with pain relief to keep him going. I don't know if thats true but it would potentially explain his terrible form bar the odd glimpse at the club world cup

It was true and he's been out for it

Then hurt his toe or something at home

But is back and ready now for the full match

Don't think I'm ready to go Saka to Palmer but it's an option

GW22 for me as well but probably Cunha and either Rogers or Thiago will be downgraded. Was tempted for this GW instead of Cunha, but it would also have meant no Arsenal defender for the festive period, and DCL (would plays against my Sunderland players on BB this GW) instead of Thiago.

    A) Haaland - NFO (a)

    C) Haaland - SUN (a)

Which mid to replace Bruno for £10.6, current mids are:
    Foden Cunha Rice Minteh

You can afford to go to Palmer in one

That could be a decent edge

      Or Rogers?

Cunha is the popular pick this week

      Could punt on MacA

Who would you get in, in midfield, up to £8.1m?

Have Saka, Foden, Semenyo and BrunoG.

Asking similar below list is rather long & any could blank or haul, Cunha, Rogers, Rice, Wirtz Gordon

      Cunha

Depends if you want a punt or prioritise guaranteed 90 min players.

If the former, Gordon is interesting. Dont like Wirtz I just haven't seen enough to warrant him.

If the latter, Cunha or Rogers for me. It's the battle of fixtures vs form. I went Rogers but my situation is different to others (FH19). Bruno G doesn't appeal as much as the other 2.

        Yeah

I'm close to just picking Cunha but Rogers also looks a strong option despite the next two fixtures for Villa.

          • 6 Years

Thing about Rogers is, if you believe he's long term pick just get him now.

If he scores in one or both of NEXT 2 GWs, he could be 0.5m more by the time everyone else jumps on in GW20

B Bruno to Roger, Wirtz or Palmer

Rogers tops RHS stats but it's form over fixtures

Cunha has the fixtures of course

      Palmer is an expensive punt

Truly confused. Unable to relax as per first post!

I have already moved for Ektike and unsure whether to be taking hits for Richards and Bruno who may return in a week or too.

Starting 11 a bit weak though if I resist the urge to hit.

    a) Bruno < Cunha (-4)
    b) Richards < Keane (-4)
    c) Bruno + Richards < Cuhna & Keane (-8)
    d) Hold (please Van Hecke vs ARS)

    Team:

    Sanchez
    Timber Rodon O’Reilly VAN HECKE
    Saka Foden Tavenier Bruno.G
    Haaland Ekitike

No it's the winners of the first division. Liverpool won it in 1980. Villa won the following year under Ron Saunders. I remember this because it was around this time of the steel workers strikes which was a difficult period.

Who were Aston Villa playing prior to Christmas when Santa Clause dropped onto the roof of the Trinity Road stand?

They were losing 2-0 at half time.

Bonus points for the final score.

          No

If it's the Villa Park, Santa dropping in question

It was a bit hairy ... but worked out okay in the end, considering his parachute got stuck on the roof after he hit it and he fell onto the perimeter of the pitch near to the players tunnel.

I think he was the most experienced xRAF parachutist as well, with thousands of jumps.

        Aston Villa v Arsenal

Villa came from behind to win 3-2

Think Colymore or his sticker got the first goal in the second half and it raised the roof and the tension amongst the capacity crowd.

        Great game

A shame for the Santa but he married his nurse and they had twins together.

He recovered but had a leg amputed.

    Whatcha reckon?

    A) Bruno -> Cunha
    B) Bruno -> Palmer
    C) Bruno & Guiu -> 5.8 & Etikike
    D) Bruno & Semenyo -> Palmer & Gakpo (0.2 shot of Cunha & Etikike)

    Dubravka
    Timber, O’Reilly, Alderete
    Saka, Foden, Semenyo, Wilson, Bruno
    Haaland, Thiago

    Verbruggen, Richards, Rodon, Guiu

    Sofascore

    Christmas to May League

Looking for a different way of playing FPL? Then go to the Sofascore App and click on Fantasy then choose Premier League and follow the instructions for setting up your team.

Code 6NQ71 admits to the above league.

Game is similar to the UCL format whereby captain changes abd subs can be made during a “Matchweek”. Player values quite a bit different to FPL.

    Best option please lads

    A Bruno --> Cunha
    B Anderson --> Virgil/Konate
    C both the above for a -4
D Gui, Bruno --> Bowen and Stach -4

    If I don't take a hit I'm playing Rondon

I was one of those fools that went early and sold Saka before Bruno injury. Don't be like me folks.

On wildcard already sold KDH and Bruno for Rice and I got Rogers back. I can't get Ekitike as 3rd striker without selling Saka I've tried all ways and it just won't work.
So its Thiago for Ekitike and lose a mid. Question is which one..? Semenyo as he's on 4 yellows and apparently off to City..? Don't mind losing Thiago as I got him for Pedro for Wolves so moving on to Ekitike also for Wolves makes sense.

    Dubravka
    Gvardiol Cucerella VdVen
    Saka Foden Semenyo Rice Rogers
    Haaland Thiago

    Verbruggen Guiu Aldarete Heaven

      Bench one:
Foden Semenyo Gordon Bowen Thiago Rogers

All of my Minileague rivals have Foden and Thiago and non of them have Semenyo, Gordon, Rogers and few of them have Bowen

I was thinking on benching Thiago as all of them have them and he is not doing good lately. But with Bruno’s injury I suspect everyone will sell Thiago and Bruno and bring Ekiteke. So he could also become differential in my league.

So please suggest who to bench

Heaven or Bijol as the budget defender?

Fixtures have me leaning towards Manchester United, he'll rarely start but also good to have the option.

Can you stretch to 4m? Alderete a clear upgrade compared to both.
Bijol just for the safety of starts I think. Wouldn't look at fixtures for the 5th defender, as you are likely keeping them until WC.

          I can

But I have Mukiele already and value the option to play a bargain defender when there's a favourable fixture across the backline.
