Fantasy Football Scout community writer Greyhead analyses the Gameweek 25 transfers and strategies of some well-known Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers

‘The Great and The Good’ this season are the FPL Godfather Mark Sutherns, the BlackBox pair of Az and Andy North, Scouts FPL GeneralJoe and Tom, the FPL Wire trio of PrasLateriser and Zophar, FPL celebrities FPL HarryMartin BakerPingreenFPL Frasier and Luke Williams, Hall of Famers Ben CrellinFabio Borges and Tom Dollimore, and last year’s mini-league winner Huss E.

“Cold Snap”

Gameweek 25 dropped right in that awkward moment where half of the FPL community is already mentally living in Double Gameweek 26, while the other half is pretending to “focus on the present”.

The big talking point was Arsenal, because of course it was. Do you triple-up on their defence and fully embrace the dark arts, or do you play it safe and just bring in Declan Rice (£7.5m), the human equivalent of a steady four-pointer and a warm cup of tea?

Meanwhile, Bukayo Saka’s (£9.9m) injury briefly united the FPL world in joy – not concern – as managers celebrated a rare opportunity to sell him without guilt, sentiment, or a farewell tweet. Although I suspect there may be a sting in that tail.

Captaincy, for once, looked refreshingly open. Right up until it wasn’t. After hours of debate, polls, podcasts, and ‘final thoughts’ threads, everyone calmly, independently, and very creatively landed on Bruno Fernandes (£9.8m). A bold differential move, enjoyed by absolutely no one exclusively.

And did anyone feel a chill in the air? Or was that just Cole Palmer‘s (£10.5m) owners? Expect a salute or two for FPL General.

OVERALL PERFORMANCE

How FPL Harry, Mark Sutherns + more did in Gameweek 25 4

It was a good week to own Palmer, as Lateriser and FPL General benefitted from his 20-point haul to see them both score 90+, boosting their rank by 725,000 and 686,000, respectively.

It was a powerful midfield performance from Lateriser, who opted for the obligatory Fernandes captaincy but also had goals from Morgan Rogers (£7.6m) and Bryan Mbeumo (£8.6m). Plus, he owns Chris Richards (£4.4m), who continues to quietly deliver defensive returns.

“Erling, Erling who?” is FPL General’s motto, achieving his massive green arrow without the need for the robotic City striker. His Gameweek 24 Wildcard paid off a week later, as picks of Daniel Munoz (£5.8m) and Emiliano Martinez (£5.0m) fared well. The latter didn’t even need a clean sheet, as bonuses and saves took him to six points.

TRANSFERS

How FPL Harry, Mark Sutherns + more did in Gameweek 25 5

‘The Great and the Good’ treated Gameweek 25 like a mass evacuation drill, with over two-thirds ruthlessly booting out Saka. All loyalty has officially been cancelled.

Rice became the sensible, oat-milk replacement of choice, soaking up ownership like a dependable sponge, while Mbeumo lurked just behind.

And we even got an exciting goalkeeper transfer, as FPL Harry went full thrill-seeker by buying David Raya (£5.9m).

‘THE GREAT AND THE GOOD’ TEMPLATE

This template has become a masterclass in coordinated thinking, with Gabriel and Fernandes universally owned. Not having them feels like you’re missing a compulsory meeting.

Saka quietly slipped out of the template, his seat neatly filled by Mbeumo.

Dubravka (94.4%), Raya (50.0%)
Gabriel (100.0%), Timber (55.6%), Andersen (44.4%), O’Reilly (33.3%), Mukiele (27.8%)
Fernandes (100.0%), Rice (72.2%), Enzo (72.2%), Mbeumo (44.4%), Rogers (44.4%)
Haaland (88.9%), Thiago (61.1%), Ekitike (55.6%)

SEASON STATS

How FPL Harry, Mark Sutherns + more did in Gameweek 25 6

A check through the season-long stats shows that Joe Lepper and FPL Harry are still the ones to follow for captaincy. Their 352 points are 64 more than FPL General and his non-Erling Haaland (£14.9m) commitment. Had he matched that 352, he’d be over 1.1 million places higher than now.

Moneyball-wise, Mark Sutherns continues to have the V for value, boasting a war chest of £105.9m. As for transfers, Martin Baker is proving to be the most aggressive, making 31 of them via four hits, although Harry and Pras have been equally aggressive at confirming four-point deductions.

CONCLUSION

There’s no time to waste before Tuesday’s deadline, with most of the focus on Arsenal. That near guarantees a bit of Mikel Arteta mind games, allowing a single Gameweek player to outscore them all.

Anyway, that’s all from me for now, and remember: don’t have FPL nightmares.

The Brentford game could legit be 2 point territory for each defender. They've just gone and won at Newcastle and Villa which are typically two of the worst away games to play. I would not want to be facing them right now

Notorious giant killers, but I still expect at least 4 Gabriel points there (DCs, 1 goal conceded) and then a Wolves haul

Nope. I think Haaland, Palmer or Bruno can outscore him in a SGW. Expecting a DGW for at least one

I'm actually tempted to tc rice. Seems to do well in away games. Could be a great differential if he hauls in even one of the games. Too risky?

I won't even cap him, with that form

Wouldn't be surprised if the three premium attackers all outscore him this GW

BB if you're one or two FTs away from a better bench

BrunoG has 4 double digits in his last 5 starts. He's miles ahead of Mane

Good luck on the TC decision. I'm fine with just capping him, but there are valid arguments either way

Yeah could do but then I have no easy route to Thiago anymore.

Have exact money for Sarr and Larsen in for Tav and Guiu though which could be worth a hit, need to figure out if that leaves me short of players in blank GW31 though....

Is Timber that much better than Saliba over the next 5? The .3m savings allow a better team and Timber surely a rotation risk for Tottenham game with it coming 3 days after Wolves?

Timber isnt a rotation risk. He will play vs Brentford, White will play in the FA cup and then Timber gets the PL games. He is young and energetic and one of our best defenders. Arteta also seems not to trust White in the games which have higher stake ie PL

      3. Ze_Austin
        • 7 Years

Timber has missed many chances and left lots of hauls on the table

Yet he's second among defenders, 25 GWs in. 5 points per match, with Saliba on 4

Again, while missing most of his hauls. Even had a goal marginally ruled as an OG

I'm going to say no to the original question as a Timber owner. Its not the rotation thing as Timber, Calafiori, Hincapie and White can all do a very good job instead of Saliba at CB too. Its this due attacking hauls bit. I don't think hes due I think hes a full back who occasionally plays at CB who is not very good at attacking. Most of his attacking returns are sideways passes to bangers or from corners like Gabriel

The fact that you are starting him over Hall vs Spurs means Hall has to go

Let’s say I stick with my plan as follows.

            WC GW32

            BB GW33

            FH GW34

That leaves me with TC most likely in GW36 with only a potential DGW for Haaland but not nailed. In that case is it better to TC Gabriel this week incase I am left playing the chip in a SGW?

Biggest double is GW33 meaning biggest blank will be GW34 not GW31.

Can just bench Raya, Gabriel, Timber, Haaland in GW31 and sell Semenyo with a view to bringing him later. No need to play chip in 31.

That's what all of the content creators are saying, including FPL Raptor. I think most people are going to TC this double gameweek, mostly on Gabriel. Annoyingly though. even as a Gunner, I can see us losing to Brentford and conceding against Wolves. I think it's the unknown because City may not have a double gameweek.

Brentford are annoying and will most likely score, don’t see them winning g it but a score draw is a possibility.

Are you saving TC for later?

Yeah, they're so strong and fluid at home. Super tough. I'm 50/50. The problem is that there may not be another double gameweek. I'm actually tempted to triple captain Haaland at home to Fulham. All content creators seem to be doing the TC on Gabriel, so there's a fear of missing out thing going on also.

Just TC someone in form, on a single GW, playing at home against Burnley.

That will probably score more than any DGW defender on the TC chip.

As a double Arsenal defence owner with Gab & Timber plus Rice

One player that is not in the conversation is Gyok.

With those 2 goals vs Sunderland and a double GW, I see him start both of those games. I think he will be the best TC of this gw, followed closely by Gabriel.

Could be a huge swing of ranks if you get that right and Arsenal don't keep more than 1 CS AND Gabriel not getting any attacking returns(low chance)

You reckon? He should start vs Brentford after his recent hauls. I think Arsenal concede in both games, so maybe an Arsenal forward is a good idea. Annoying that Saka has been poor and is out.

yes I think they will concede in at least 1 gw, which makes Gyok a good punt. We are better with Gyok leading the line for sure although he can be wasteful as well.

Yeah but Jesus is a better impact player than a starter from the games I have so far watched Arsenal. Those 2 goals will give him a lot of confidence + he loves playing lower tier teams ie Wolves

Yeah, not massively convinced Gyokeres will start. I like Jesus starting and he works better than Gyokeres. The game has been open and stretched when Gyokeres has come on and scored. I'm thinking Jesus will start on Thursday...then again, I said Liverpool would beat City 4-1, so go figure.

Am I stupid to be thinking of ditching Ekitike?

A downgrade to Mane allows a cheeky DGW punt, drops an inconsistent £9m striker for and inconsistent team and provides funds for 2 solid upgrades elsewhere.

I think the issue is that Liverpool are not fixture proof - they're in a rut. He also isn't consistent enough in the good fixtures - in fact most of his goals are coming in the tougher games

I read that Liverpool's defensive data has improved a lot recently - 3rd best in the league. Eki has that ability to bang in a couple of goals in quick succession and bag a 13 pointer. I can understand the frustration but I'm staying patient. He and Wirtz have a good understanding

Is Timber really a better option than Raya as a third Arsenal asset?

Since GW12, Timber has recorded one assist, no goals, has not scored any bonus points, and only hit defcon twice. In the same timeframe, Raya has accumulated save points and bonus points twice.

Doesn't seem like there's a clear standout between the two on those metrics, but the GK position seems to be more of an issue this season and Raya solves that with there being few decent alternatives. He can also hide on the bench in BGW31 whereas with Timber he's an outfield player that may need to be sold eventually in order to field a starting XI.

Going forward I'd rather have a combo of Raya and Munoz right now, than Timber and any other FPL keeper.

Dang. Good question. Statistically, 'yes' (looking at Fantasy) in terms of goals, but Munoz offers a much higher ceiling for expected assists. As a Gunner, Timber's goal opportunities mostly came at the beginning of the season and have dried up, yet he's been close to scoring a few in the champions league recently. Arsenal get more space and attacking opportunities in the champs league. I think he should have scored two vs Milan. However, Munoz has got Burnley and Wolves at home, so I would prioritise Munoz. I brought in Sarr this gameweek.

I agree with Jet5605, Timber is more attacking. However, the fixtures favour Palace. As a perpetually broken Gunner, I think we'll lose to Brentford because City will beat Fulham and Arsenal will probably drop points because of he pressure. Brentford 2-1 Arsenal OR Brentford 2-2 Arsenal.

Thanks Ignasi. Agree the Brentford game is the banana skin but I'm not sure Arsenal will lose. Maybe a draw or narrow win. Thoughts on my Q below?

Yeah, likely to be a draw, it's just I'm so damaged historically by Arsenal. The pressure of the three points can buckle them if they're at 1-1 after 70 mins.

              Timber is better than Raya
But in gw 31 having Raya Gab & Rice allows you to bench 3 Arsenal .
Plus a spare bench spot for a Man City player

Yes this is exactly my thoughts.

I would say that Timber is a better FPL pick than Raya in general, but with the BGW upcoming, a really good fixture swing for Palace, and current issues with the GK position in my team, I do think in this instance Raya is the better option - especially if it also allows me to get Munoz in.

The plan for BGW31 is to go with a bench of Raya, Gabriel, Haaland, and one other.

            A)Timber
            B)Gyokeres

Timber if you only have Gabriel as your Arsenal defender.

Otherwise Gyokeres would be a good differential if you're already doubled up on Arsenal defence

3FT and 0.3 ITB. Was set on B but am wondering if I should attack those Palace fixtures with Munoz. Like Hill as a pick but he is away to Everton & West Ham in the next two. A still allows me to do DCL & Rice > Dango & Thiago next week

            A - Dorgu & Szob > Munoz & KDH and roll 1 (Bench DCL)
            B - Dorgu > Hill and roll 2

            Pickford
            Gabriel - Timber - Dorgu
            BrunoF - Rice - Enzo - Cunha
            Haaland - Ekitike - DCL

            Dub - Szob - Gudmund - Andersen

I would have brought Munoz in but happy with Tarkowksi at home to Bournemouth, so brought in Sarr for Wilson.

Thanks. Sarr also a good pick and could outscore Munoz. I'm just fearful of Sarr trolling after being burnt before whereas Munoz offers CS potential in two nice games.

Yeah, I would have gone for Munoz but feel Tarkowski can deliver a clean sheet.

Yeah it's team dependent and in your case that it the logical play.

I agree that Munoz is the one to get. Before his injury, he and Gabriel were miles clear of any other defender in points scored.

He looked good against Brighton and very unlucky not to have returned more points. The fixtures are there for Palace and I think his price will only go up from now onwards.

Thanks! Yeah Munoz just feels like a safety blanket whereas Sarr has a tendency to blank in easy games and haul at Arsenal or Liverpool. I like Hill a lot but Munoz fixtures look much better - especially the next two

Yeah, 100%. I'll probably replace Tarks for Munoz next week.
