Another Gameweek, another Bruno Fernandes (£10.4m) assist.

That’s now 20 Fantasy Premier League (FPL) assists for the season for the Portuguese playmaker, which is eight more than anyone else has supplied.

But how close is he to the all-time FPL record?

MOST FPL ASSISTS IN A SINGLE SEASON

Here’s where Fernandes stands in the historic pecking order…

SeasonPlayerPosClubPointsAssists
2013/14Luis SuarezFWDLIV29525
2002/03Thierry HenryFWDARS27123
2019/20Kevin De BruyneMIDMCI25123
2016/17Kevin De BruyneMIDMCI19921
2007/08Cesc FàbregasMIDARS20520
2016/17Christian EriksenMIDTOT21820
2025/26Bruno FernandesMIDMUN20420

Bruno is now joint-fifth in the all-time FPL assists table.

He still has a bit to go to match or better Luis Suarez, who not only set the assists record (25) in 2013/14 but also the all-time high for total attacking returns (55) in a single campaign. Even Mohamed Salah hasn’t been able to beat that in any of his nine seasons with Liverpool.

Suarez managed that feat despite missing the first five matches of his record-setting season through suspension! A whopping 13 of his 25 assists were of the ‘Fantasy’ variety, eg forcing own-goals, rebounds, penalty awards etc.

Back in FPL’s inaugural year in 2002/03, Thierry Henry finished with 23 assists. How his contributions would have translated into points a quarter of a century later is a research project for another day – he was awarded an assist for this Robert Pires goal, for instance, something he wouldn’t have gained under current FPL rules. Then again, FPL didn’t given him an assist for forcing this Fulham own-goal!

The orthodox assists record of 20 is co-held by Henry, in 2002/03, and Kevin De Bruyne, in 2019/20. That’s the record you’ll have heard plenty about in the media as Bruno is rapidly closing in on it.

Fernandes is just one away from that number after Gameweek 34. Impressively, his only ‘Fantasy assist’ this season was for James Hill‘s own-goal in Gameweek 31.

Our thanks to TopMarx for the historical data.

I am on two mini league, in one league I am leading by 40 points and in another league I am down by 30 points. All three of us have the same (14/15) players same.

How do I Slightly change my team so that I can cover that 30 points without slipping the lead just in case it didn’t work out.

Arsenal will be critical so you will want to have them for the run-in.

RMWCT pls! I think this looks pretty good but happy to get some feedback!

Gone Gyokeres as Havertz is injured. Brighton because they are gunning for Europe and have Wolves in BB36. My dilemma is Leeds has Burnley in 35 and Spurs in BB36 but they might be on the beach. Only has Rogers from Villa as I think that they are probably done with the league before the Burnley game in BB36. Not too sure about Palace because they will be focusing in Europe.

Depending on whether you're chasing or not, I would recommend considering players that were overlooked in recent template teams of recent weeks and working out who is really tricky to get to from them. Saka is a great shout because he was in nobody's considerations a couple of weeks ago, even up to 10 mins before deadline last weekend.

All those doubling teams were invested in heavily and are still in people's teams. Not sure many went with Gross, so he'd be a good differential as he won't be in any teams and many will be tripled on Brighton but won't want to sidestep to a different Brighton player. However, Welbeck and Van Hecke were in almost every team going so probably don't serve as a differential in this case - do you need to match others' points or gain an advantage?

Rogers seems like an underwhelming pick and also has a risk of rotation. Villa could confirm top 5 by the end of the GW and shift focus to Europe safe that there isn't much advantage to finishing 4th v 5th.

A few that nobody really went for in great numbers:
      - Casemiro - Feels like he's on a victory lap. Keen to max numbers, help out Bruno's assist tally and finish on a high before his next move. Two home matches left and he looked well up for it last night. Great budget enabler.
      - Gibbs-White - Forest not safe yet. Most goal involvements in the last 6 matches of all midfielders. Still fighting for survival and for a spot in the England squad for the World Cup.
      - Osula - The definition of clinical. 5 shots, all on target, producing 3 goals. Will push on for the rest of the season to secure a spot in the first team considerations next season.
      - Rice - Sounds daft but people have been ditching this guy in droves for months now. 4.6m owners in GW26 to 3.3m now. On all set pieces, collects defensive contributions. 3rd highest scoring midfielder in the game, fighting for the title.

I'd also just recommend not playing WC yet, until the fixture schedules are finalised for everyone.

Thanks mate for taking the time to draft this comment! I appreciate you taking the time =)

I am chasing 22 points to overtake my ML leader, so I need some differentials, but no need to take unnecessary risks I think. I still have BB and he doesn't, so hopefully that will at least cover half of that lead.

I will have to monitor Saka's minutes tonight to decide if I want him. Welbeck and Van Hecke are good picks so I will probably stick with them.

I agree on your point about Rogers and Villa. When I was tinkering, he is almost always the first to be replaced.

Awesome recommendations! Osula has never been part of my consideration, probably too blinded by the lure of Welbeck and DCL who are in decent form and have good fixtures coming up.

Rice is an interesting one. I think he's being overlooked for being a boring pick but boring can be good enough, rather than taking risky assets like Saka.

Will consider MGW and Casemiro in my future drafts as well.

Thank you so much for your reply! Good luck!

I have a similar team and opting to play Mitoma over Taverner currently. Mitoma is top quality and should hopefully start every match with Gomez being injured.

Also, Newcastle and Eddie Howe are pathetic, wimpy cowards.

Palace seem to be playing defensive, low-energy football for the most part, can see a 0-0.

Thing is Mitoma really didn't pass the eye test for me against Chelsea, he seemed to be in a strange position and often not up with the play when Brighton were breaking. Take your point on Newcastle too. Hmmmmm

Regarding Bruno F's FPL record, you arent comparing the same things here. Bruno may have only benefitted from one dodgy FPL assist but that isn't the whole story. How many did the likes of Suarez not get because we didn't hand out points like confetti back? How many assists did he not get because the intended target was somebody else under the old rules?
