With Gameweek 37 of Fantasy Premier League (FPL) nearing, our pundits are finalising their teams before Friday’s deadline.
FPL General, who has three top 500 finishes to his name, has been without Erling Haaland (£14.7m) all season. Here, he outlines his plans for the week ahead.

Gameweek 36 Review

The Triple Captain chip was very nearly a complete disaster! Rayan Cherki (£6.6m) getting the dreaded 59th-minute substitution in the first game was right on brand! Pep Guardiola knew what he was doing; he’s obviously a podcast listener and has taken it personally that I’ve avoided his star striker all season. I had the tweet ready to send about Cherki matching Sadio Mane and Leroy Sane in the three-point Triple Captain club. In the end, the assist off the bench was enough to secure a small green arrow from 546k to 538k. Finishing inside the Top 500k will do for me this year. I’ll be hungrier than ever for a good campaign in 2026/27 without self-imposed player restrictions.
The free transfer last week was used to ship Cole Palmer (£10.3m) for Antoine Semenyo (£8.1m), which paid off. Going into this experimental season, I needed Palmer to be a reliable captain pick, and he’s failed miserably. I didn’t realise just how few points he’s accumulated until I sold him last week. He’s on 104. Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Joao Gomes (£5.3m) has more. Joao Palhinha (£5.5m) would’ve been a better choice. Teammate Moises Caicedo (£5.7m) has outscored him. It’s depressing reading! Please get back to your best next season, Cole!
It’s always better to join a party late than not to go at all. The decision to buy Elliot Anderson (£5.6m) in Gameweek 30 has gone very well. I was convinced it wouldn’t be just defensive contribution (DefCon) points he’d get from that point onwards. The two goals since have been very satisfying. What a gem he’s been, well done if you’ve managed to own him for 36 Gameweeks. He’s now in the top five for points scored among midfielders.
