What time are the price changes?

In all seriousness, I've been playing fpl for so long and one thing I wanted to do in gw38 was to get there with at least 2 FT's. I finally managed to do it this season.
Boy did it pay off with MGW and Fleming

I caught some team leaks, realised I had half my team not playing, so took a -20 hit! Just those new players I brought in got 53 points (I would have got zero from those originally in my team), so a drastic hit was actually well worth it (for once!).

Horrible season once again. Don't have the strength to check my rank. Going to be in a very dark place all summer now. Zero benefit from my scout membership year after year. Major reform needed on this website.

Haven't been so active down below in the last few months due to life, but thanks for the laughs and insights across the season.

Personally had my worst effort since I stopped being a filthy casual, and it's not even close. In fact I've had better seasons back when I didn't have a smartphone, frequently missed deadlines and didn't know you could take -4s. It's been that bad.

Season summed up by GW38 decisions to go for Marmoush over literally anyone and Richy over Bowen. But the important thing is the friends we made along the way.

My first time playing FPL in many years. Finished 229k - a modest rank compared to many on here - but my highest of the season and won my mini league so a good way to end. Enjoyed the FFS articles, podcasts, and discussions along the way. I will be back next season!

I realise it's nonsense but I feel I have wasted my whole season with one transfer. I started the day yesterday ranked 150k and genuinely didnt think it would be possible to break the top 100k, so I went with the more 'fun' option of hinchelwood compared to Mavropanos. Had I picked the w ham defender I'd have a 5 digit rank this morning and would be buzzing. finished 109k. rather gutted. Anyway thanks to everyone for your help this season and hopefully I haven't given too much bad advice 🙂 see you...

It was that sort of season (with hindsight) where the defensive moves probably were the play. Still a good season for you anyway so well done.

Apparently a novice won the game which I'm very dubious about (the novice bit) so it just goes to show you how much harder the game is now. Without any content or models 10 years ago Ibsen carries on with his GW1 trajectory and finishes 10m. The competitive edge veterans of the game may have had from experience is well and truly eroded

Grim final two weeks after a decent wildcard and BB33. Dropped another 150k this week mainly due to Richarlison(c) vs Haaland cappers with Bruno vice. Had 3 active subs with 10 from Tavernier but still only hit 39! If I'd have gone Bowen or Taty I'd have been absolutely fine. Gutter!

Can't believe the stunning London stadium will be an arena for the EFL. All that capacity with empty seats come season. Going to be a long summer for West ham. If only Manchester utd / Arsenal / Spurs went down. It would have been better in my opinion.

What was the goal of defcon?

I think this game is at its best when there is a wide array of price options so we can tinker with different structures and strategies. As long as the players are priced what they're worth, the amount of points they score isn't so important.

Pre-defcon, some people would rotate a group of three 4.0m defenders over one slot, another played a 433 with two 4.5m DMs and four strong defenders. That structural variation was great.

Now with CBs scoring the same as WBs, and DMs scoring as much as wingers, all it's done is converge the prices of players and reduce variation.

    1. Holmes
      • 12 Years
      1 month, 20 days ago

I guess the goal was more points but they probably didnt estimated them to be so high. Maybe they increase the price but then defcon drops next season? Its tough to judge.

The goal was to open up the pool of players who are viable picks (e.g. CDMs) to help prevent rigid templates from forming. It was a good innovation by Mark.

      1. Qaiss
        • 10 Years
        1 month, 20 days ago

Elliot Anderson is now a pick but Jack Grealish is no longer a pick

Senesi is now a pick (would probably have been one before) but Mykolenko is no longer a pick

It hasn’t expanded the player pool. It’s made defenders and defensive midfielders way better and made attacking midfielders and strikers worse. Some of them are now completely useless

        1. Sir Michael Taker
          • 12 Years
          1 month, 20 days ago

They killed strikers for sure. The fact JP got 20 real goal contributions without penalties, he would have got more for helping Palmer score a few goals by falling over... and he's finished behind E. Anderson in the points total is remarkable stuff.

          1. Qaiss
            • 10 Years
            1 month, 20 days ago

Senesi was a £4.5m defender, third highest scoring defender in the game, scored more points than all but 4 strikers

Bournemouth kept 11 clean sheets this season

With all the negatives about DEFCON, like points not being awarded fairly or definitively, I can’t really believe people think it would be good for the game

But it’s been 38 weeks of it now, you’d think some would realise it. Seems that’s not the case

Which striker do U think had a better season han Sensei?

Sensei kept a few clean sheets, had decent attacking threat and did his job far better than pretty much every striker other than 4 with more points than him, over the course of the season

Just because players who did well in previous seasons turned poor this season has very little to do with fol introducing defcons. Munoz was the best Def pic of all the palace defcon defenders and my fav this season until he got injured. People actually had a mix of palace defenders unlike last season when everyone got munoz. This season at least he was a differential at that point

Because they didn’t price players accordingly. Senesi would have been £4.5 without defcon

2 points nearly every week adds up

            • 7 Years

Another poor example without context. Not only did Anderson play 700 minutes more than Pedro nobody thinks Pedro has had a better season than Anderson, and FPL just reflects the two things I just mentioned

In a normal season with 4-5 kids scoring in excess of 200 points Anderson wouldn't even be a very good pick because of lack of ceiling

Agreed - 2 points is quite a lot when you consider it’s doubling a blank, defcons are good but should have been 1 point, but also multiples, ie 20 defcons defender gets 2 points extra

Absolutely agree with people who hate defcons. Fpl introducing defcon was pretty much the main reason for all the mids and forward turning crap

Casmerio scoring more goals than the likes of Saka Salah etc also had a lot to do with fol introducing defoncs

A few people have misunderstood now which means I've explained my point poorly.

I just mean there's fewer price points now. If 4.0m defenders perform like 5.0m ones, and 4.5m DMs perform like 6.0m midfielders, they will need to be priced accordingly next season. That will result in a raised floor, and leave few, if any, viable cheap players. There will be more choice in the mid-priced bracket, but the lack of lower priced players reduces the structural options.

I think the game is better when we have a wide array of price points. The lack of high-scoring premiums is a whole seperate unrelated issue, and not FPL's fault, it's more the elimination of the lower bracket like 4.0m defenders and 4.5m DMs that I take issue with. Garner scored more points per game than Cherki, Ampadu scored more points per game than Gakpo. These kind of DMs would have been 4.5m in previous years and still had an important structural purpose. Sure, the mid-bracket has more choice, but the cheaper brackets now has less choice, elimating 4.0/4.0/4.0 rotation strategies, and playing 433 witth two 4.5m DMs on the bench etc.

I'm not hating on defcons or complaining at all. It's just a calm critique. I just think the raising of the floor and eliminating lower brackets reduces structural choice.

    Went through my GW history.

My best GWs without playing a chip was a few 600k game week ranks. Basically 0 high variance GWs over the entire season. On the other end of the spectrum I had 9 (!) GWs that were GW rank 7m or worse, with 4 of those being 10m+...Actually amazing that Im top 500k when I look at how bad the average game week has been. Just every game week is GW rank 2m or worse. I took a few captain punts last few GWs instead of Bruno F knowing the work ML leader would cap him and would have been 330k if I capped him but chasing in that particular ML was all I had to play for at that point.

Had so much crap going against me. Ive had 9 penalty misses this season (including captain) among other things.

Took just 1 hit over the season until the last GW where I took a -12 to field an 11 which I feel is perfectly justified (ended up losing 1 point because Marmoush didnt play) so Ive been playing very solid and picking good long term players all season long but just nothing came off this year.

The one thing I can admit that I got wrong was the importance of def con. I didnt have enough def con defenders in my team in the first half of the season, sitting with the likes of Timber for ages while Senesi was racking up 8+ pointers each game. Unless they change def con or the price of def con merchants massively I cant see much reason not to go 4ATB with consistent def con players like Senesi/Truffert, Tarkowski, Gabriel (ofc), etc.

How would yall sum up your season? Any main takeaways for the next one?

Finished at 148k - by far my worst performance since 2019/20.

I always seem to start badly and then pick up in the second half of the season... need to work on that.

If Defcon isn't changed (I think it will), then I think an alternating 4-5-1 / 4-4-2 will almost certainly be my strategy for next season (and probably many others).

Botched my transfers on deadline costing me another 10 points to end the season on. Hey ho.

It's felt like a weird season, Imagine most went my way but feels like alot didn't.

A bit disappointed I dropped about of the top1k in the last few weeks but still a decent or 1139. ML won comfortably and nearly a 1000€ that comes with it.
    Have a nice summer ya’ll!

Nice one - amazing result. I've never finished anything like that high (33k my best so far in 10 years of playing).

Cheers! My best ever was 54 but that was years ago. Loads more playing nowadays.

    2023/24- 46k
    2024/25- 128k
    2025/26- 32k

Every year I try to target top 25k and every year I fail..this game is soo hard

Theyre great ranks though, especially given the volume of players that are in the game, and the amount of content creators etc as well

Thanks man....it seems that's the best I can reach though...not sure when my top 25k dream becomes a reality...but we go again next year and hope for the best

To put it into perspective I was 5k in GW31, finished 40k, went tits up yesterday with a -8 when i saw the team leaks, I had only taken 1 hit all season and dropped 20k to 40k

So one decision can make or break that 25k rank for you

Sorry to hear that mate...yeah one decision here and there can make or break your season...the one thing which I did well this year was not to take any hits. I played with 10 men in the final GW and still got a healthy green from 44k to 32k.

Now I guess it's time to relax and forget about FPL for sometime now and come back again stronger and fresher

    2019/20 - 12k
    2020/21 - 19k
    2021/22 - 35k
    2022/23 - 17k
    2023/24 - 3k
    2024/25 - 15k
    2025/26 - 174k

A slice of humble pie for me this season, my top20k run is over. Never recovered after selling Thiago for his hattrick against Everton and then brace against Sunderland the week after. Was 100k overall before that and that was GW19

Hopefully the World Cup will be fantastic and looking forward to seeing most of you all again in July 🙂

Still a great or history. You're clearly a good manager but to not have a single low variance season over such a time frame takes incredible luck and only the luckiest (not the best) avoid that.

Think 174k is low variance tbh, with the way my season went. Didn’t have 1 week where I smashed everyone by 20/30 points as I’ve had in seasons past. Was all just a bit of a long slog

Anything outside top50/100k imo is not good, cause there aren’t that many people who take FPL more seriously than you or I do

Game is getting harder for sure

Im pretty sure theres far more than 100k taking it seriously enough to make consistent, top tier transfers every gw. Its very easy due to algorithms and ccers.

Up against people who play like that it doesnt matter if they take it more seriously really, they still make the same good decisions and it all comes down to variance/luck after that.

That Thiago week was midweek wasn’t it? I remember I was selling him to Joao Pedro and missed the deadline, so lucky

He scored a hattrick against Everton on a Sunday and then 3 days later a brace against Sunderland

Was like being beaten with a stick and just laying there hopelessly

Removing Semenyo for Cherki before DGW36 season defining stuff.
Semenyo GW 30-35: All blanks, early subs in gw 34 and 35.
Cherki 31-35: 7ppg, all starts, looks like peps most important attacker.
Gw 36-38, cherki got 0 starts and got outscored 19-7 by semenyo. Had to remove him gw38 as well. Add the transfer costs of bringing him in and out as I had to take hits last gw to field a full 11 and that one swap cost 21 points.

Just one example of logical decisions being punished to ridiculous degrees this season.

the Watkins to Gyokeres one at the end of the season must have been brutal, can imagine a few went there. Nice 26 point swing. Watkins better than Gyokeres even when he's hungover.

What helped me most in that period was forgoing Haaland and doubling up on Semenyo and Cherki
