Fantasy Premier League (FPL) has launched for the 2026/27 season, so let the first-draft team reveals begin!

This time, we hear from FPL General, who has three top 500 finishes to his name. He went without Erling Haaland (£15.5m) all last season – and it’s not an experiment he’s going to repeat this time around…

FPL is back! It feels so good to be tinkering again. Pre-season is always my favourite time of the year. I’m really looking forward to this campaign after playing differently last year without Erling Haaland (£15.5m) and Mohamed Salah. They say a change is as good as a rest and that’s exactly how it feels. I’ve fallen in love with the game all over again. I can’t wait for the season to start! There won’t be any self-imposed restrictions this year; it’s back to basics and chasing the best Gameweek 38 overall rank possible!

With all that said, here’s my first draft…

FPL GENERAL’S FIRST DRAFT

Happy tinkering folks!

Make sure you check out this week’s video with Joe on the Scout YouTube channel.

The first 59th Minute Podcast for 2026/27 will be released on Monday!

    Which duo?

    A) Cunha & Anderson
    B) BrunoG & Rogers

Personally, neither. I don't think Anderson will get the same defcon at City, and even if Bruno is still at Newcastle, I think there'll be uncertainty there around his future. Look at the problems they had around Isak at the start of last season and what that did to the team.

Think we can expect high 300s DC from Anderson at City. Thats what Caicedo got under Maresca and its what Rodri would have gotten (projected) if he played a full season. Its also what Rice got in a dominant Arsenal side so its about expected for a top teams DM. He will surely score less DC but should still get them fairly consistently. I expect his attacking numbers to improve under a more dominant side as well so for me he seems a good solid pick for the start of the season before we see how teams line up.

Andersons defcons will drop dramatically this year. Man City have too much possession. No set pieces too.

Drop, yes. Drop to much less than 350-400, extremely unlikely. More possession means being pushed further up which is a boon to his attacking output so not a negative.

A lot will depend if he plays with Rodri or not, fitness and transfer permitting. Anderson is quite capable of playing further forward, he started his career as a 10. Without Rodri his DC's will stay high as you'd imagine he'll play deeper. Quality player either way.

Fixtures for me. Spurs & Chelsea in the next 5, who I expect to be strong this season. Leeds away is pretty tough for attackers too.

Should be good value over the whole season though.

Is it just me, or has the fixture ticker got home and away fixture difficulties reversed? Forest have got Leeds at home GW1, which is apparently more difficult than Brentford's trip to Elland Road GW2. Similarly, Liverpool at St James' is greener than Spurs playing Newcastle at home, and Coventry away at Arsenal is less red than Villa playing them at home. I haven't checked every team, but it seems that the ticker is saying away matches are easier than home ones.

Is it wrong, or am I just really missing something?

What ticker? The official ticker shows Forest GW1 (Home to Leeds) as FDR 2, and Brentford's GW2 (Away to Leeds) as FDR 3.

Liverpool Away to Newcastle shows FDR 3 and Spurs at home to Newcastle as FDR 2

I didnt mind him going without H last year, but it was a mistake not to have any sirt of plane, such as making up for it by focussing on defcons and playing 541 or something, anything. Instead he just had the same team as everyone else, minus H.

Everton have been awarded just 2 or 3 penalties in each of the last 4 seasons.

    25/26: 2 awrded, 2 scored
    24/25: 2 awared, 2 scored
    23/24: 3 awared, 2 scored
    22/23: 3 awared, 3 scored

I'm not sure being Everton's #1 penalty taker is as big a flex as the models think it is.

Kinsky is a good option as long as he starts.

Mosquera is probably enough Arsenal cover for me, as their defence won't be as good as last year with Saliba missing.

Shaw is probably a better entry point into the Utd defence as he's 0.5m cheaper than Maguire.

Foden is a risky pick, as he will be competing with Cherki for the number 10 spot. Plus we don't know for sure yet whether Maresca will play a system that uses a 10.

Any reason to go one or the other for GW1 between Mosquera or Hincapie?

    1. jayzico
      • 15 Years
      4 hours, 36 mins ago

It's either Hincapie or Cala ain't it? And Mosqmeh - hmm

I'm worried about having Arsenal defence. Can't afford 8m for a defender, albeit a very good one!

      1. Brosstan

Mosquera’s position might be more secure but I’d expect us to sign another centre back. If we dont, then it’s Mosquera

      1. Brosstan

Cheers. You think Mosq's spot is more secure then, if no CB is added during the window?

Yeah if we don’t sign another centre back he’s a very good pick but that is a big and unlikely IF

Mosquera seems to be popular amongst the FPL experts' drafts.

Don't really like it tbh. Trying to fit in Bruno, Haaland, and Palmer on top leaves you playing Xhaka week in week out and relying on a rotation risk in Foden. And with only fodder on the bench.

I'd want to downgrade one of the big three to at least take Xhaka up to one of the many 6.0 and one of the fodder defenders to a decent 4.5, maybe the mid to a 5.0 too.

    OK SORRY. RE ARSENAL DEFENCE

This has been asked a zillion times already and I'm still not convinced. I can't/won't pay 8m for a defender.

ANYONE (especially a Gooner) - WHO would you placehold Saliba for. Currently on Cal - yet Hincapie lurks - arghhh. May just give Arsenal defence a wide berth until Saliba is back

Harvey Barnes, anyone? I think he's a definite starter now Gordon has left.

Newcastle apparently want £90m for Bruno G. The transfer market is so ruined... don't get me wrong, he's a very good player, one of the best midfielders in the league, but £90m -_-.

Do we expect less minutes for shaw? with mazraoui missing a lot through injury last season and Dalot having to play right back

H.Amass might be an option this season, for rotation with Shaw. Wait and see throughout pre-season I guess.

First time in many many years of playing where I don't really feel the need to tinker that much with the players I want.

I'll probably ready a Bench Boost Squad for GW1 to get it out of the way and Wildcard into this.

    Verbruggen (4.0 fodder)
Kerkez Neco Maguire (5.0 def) Thomas
    Bruno Palmer Gibbs-White Szoboszlai Slater
    Haaland (6.0 fwd) (4.5 fodder)

I do like quite a few in that 5.0 defender (Canvot, Vuskovic, Ballard etc.) and 6.0 forward (Osula, Calvert-Lewin, Solanke etc.) positions.

Has anyone toyed with the idea of BB GW2?

The last two outings between Coventry and Hull both resulted in 0-0 draws. Potential to use the bench boost early for a shot at a double clean sheet for 8m. Also, for those who like a bit of risk, you could bench Kroupi against City then have him in the team against Everton at home.

    One to consider.

Issue with this is a not so good GW1 team though..

Thinking of alternating between 532 & 442 for the start of season.

Is going big at the back risky?

Big at the back is never risky. You just can’t kneejerk with it

Thanks mate. I think for instance Gabriel, Mosqu and some of the City lads are great value.

I don't think it's risky, but City & Arsenal do have recovering starting XI players, meaning def-con defenders outside of top 6 could be the answer.

Bar injuries, I can´t see my GW1 to be much different from this draft:

    Verbruggen Kinsky
    Mosquera Williams Shaw Thiaw Thomas
    Bruno Mbeumo Szobo Sarr Ndiaye
    Haaland JP 4.5

    What do you think?

Thoughts on this 15? Very keen on BB GW1 without Haaland, Bruno or Gabriel.
Pending they all start their final pre-season game:

    Verbruggen

Murillo - Milenković - N.Williams

    Palmer (C) - Semenyo - Mbeumo - Cunha - Wirtz
    Isak - João Pedro

    (Kinsky - Šeško - Canvot - Ballard)

Cherki or Foden would replace one of the Man Utd midfielders in GW3.
Likely WC GW6 or 7 for the robot.
