Fantasy Premier League (FPL) has launched for the 2026/27 season, so let the first-draft team reveals begin!

This time, we hear from FPL General, who has three top 500 finishes to his name. He went without Erling Haaland (£15.5m) all last season – and it’s not an experiment he’s going to repeat this time around…

FPL is back! It feels so good to be tinkering again. Pre-season is always my favourite time of the year. I’m really looking forward to this campaign after playing differently last year without Erling Haaland (£15.5m) and Mohamed Salah. They say a change is as good as a rest and that’s exactly how it feels. I’ve fallen in love with the game all over again. I can’t wait for the season to start! There won’t be any self-imposed restrictions this year; it’s back to basics and chasing the best Gameweek 38 overall rank possible!

With all that said, here’s my first draft…

FPL GENERAL’S FIRST DRAFT

Happy tinkering folks!

Make sure you check out this week’s video with Joe on the Scout YouTube channel.

The first 59th Minute Podcast for 2026/27 will be released on Monday!

Thoughts on this squad for BB GW1?

    Verbruggen, Kinsky
Canvot, Maguire, Van Hecke, Ballard, Jacquet
Szobo, Palmer, Gibbs White, Le Fee, Sarr
    Haaland, DCL, JP

Just wanting to get the BB chip out the way

If it’s for BB1 or BB2, I’d go with Brobbey iso DCL.
Perhaps you want try squeezing in an Everton player or two given their run, especially defender.

Started with Haaland last season, was one of only 2 that started with him in my mini league. But realistically more than likely going to go without this season, to start with. Much more balanced team that way.

Who will you be playing up top? Isak and JP, with rotating 6.0FWD and 6.0MID?

Yes. Isak and JP with a 4.5m bench forward. I will go V strong in defense. Can’t do any worst than last year.

Is it just me or is it perfectly easy to get a balanced team with Haaland? Especially if you forgo Bruno

@Thebiffas you cannot leave out Bruno. Do both bruno and haaland and you can still get a balanced team.
@oneman Forget strong def especially if you are thinking double ars with Gab and raya. They wont keep as many CS without saliba and teams will counter their corners.

Bottomed. Thoughts on this BB GW1? (if they are predicted to start):

    Verbruggen

Murillo - Milenković - N.Williams

    Palmer (C) - Semenyo - Mbeumo - Cunha - Wirtz
    Isak - João Pedro

    (Kinsky - Šeško - Canvot - Ballard)

Cherki or Foden would replace one of the Man Utd midfielders in GW3.
Likely WC GW6 or 7 for the robot.

Thanks, I like to see a team without Bruno & Haaland. Do you trust Mbeu & Cunha to make up for Bruno?

Won't Dorgu & Amad take minutes off Cunha & Mbeumo?

          No probs!
They will but they play arguably the two weakest teams in GW1 & 2.
After that, one of them (if not both) will likely be transferred out to Rogers and/or Szoboszlai.

Best 6.5-7 mid? Have Szobo, currently have KDH but unsure

    Rest of team is

    Raya
    Gab Porro Maguire
    Mbeumo Cunha KDH Szobo
    Haaland Pedro DCL

Both Wilson and I. Sarr are also 6.5M. After that there are Enzo Le Fee and Garner for 6.0M.

For me Sarr is wait and see under new management, would rather rely on Wilson.
However I’ve gone with Barnes and KDH for now, going for their fixture runs.

7 - Bruno G or Kroupi jr or Foden if he can earn starting spot.
6.5 - Wilson or E.Anderson based on last season. Tzolis is wait and see but has greater porential to be standout. Madueke/Eze if odegard is sold
Dorgu or Tel at 6mil looks like he could be something based on preseason.
Never trusted Sarr but if mateta is benched for strand then he'll be main man.

Intriguing first fixture for Isak, away at Newcastle. Will he come back to haunt them or fold like a cheap suit? Tempted to punt on him for those early Liverpool fixtures..

His £9m price is a bit off putting
Considering you can get Pedro for £7.5m
With a Haaland DCL & Pedro forward line you get 3 of last seasons top 5 forwards

Yeah I’m definitely going with those 2 as well. Quite like the look of the team with a front 3 of Isak, Haaland & Pedro. No Bruno, but have opted for Cunha & Mbeumo instead.

Celtic fan here. If Maeda gets listed as a forward you'd be a moron to put him in your team.

He has the technical ability of a goldfish. His goal record in Scotland was good because he got 50 chances per game, of which he'd score 1 and put 49 wide or just completely fluff his lines. Can't cross a ball to save his life, can't dribble unless it's just hoofing it 10 yards in front of himself and running onto his own ball.

You want him as a cheap mid for defcons and the odd goal where he closes down a defender or the keeper due to his work rate alone.

      DCL, Brobbey.

Unlikely starter, but apparently Zirkzee looked on fire, which would save you another 0.5M.

Zirkzee is shite and was playing a friendly against Rosenborg who couldn't care less about that friendly. The players and fans where upset that that friendly was arranged. So don't take that performance into consideration. Zirkzee was horrible against Wrexham.

On Cunha and Mbeumo... Are we sure they're both 100% nailed? There's Amad on the right, Dorgu on the left and Sesko down the middle...

I can see Mbeumo being ahead of Amad for now but if his form continues like it was at the end of last season then it may not last forever - and before Dorgu got injured, he was consistently benching Cunha. Sesko started to look really good so I would have thought that CF slot was his now.

    Any thoughts?

Verbruggen it is. There’s a reason they’re happy to allow Rushworth to depart. I always favour the most competent individual in the end (which is why I favoured Kelleher last year)

It looks really good, although I'm not sure about the double Chelsea attack. I'd suggest going MGW over Palmer and put the savings into a slightly better defence.

    Better to do:

    A) 3-4-3, with a stronger bench of Kadioglu and Gross, and Brobbey as 3rd forward
    B) 3-5-2, with all fodder bench and Rice as 5th mid

Feel like as a starting 11, B is stronger, but of course A has a little more depth and two bench players that can be happily used if needed.

Looked lively last night when he came on for second half. Definitely in my thinking.

I like Buendia as the 6m mid. He was really good last year and could have penalties

Doesn't Manzambi just directly replace him tho?

Does he? I wouldn’t say so. Man am I played further forward in the World Cup but deeper for club. I thought he’d be more of a Tielmams replacement. Rogers is also gone and don’t rate Garnacho.

Hello. What formation are people looking to start with ?

4 at the back to capitalise on defcon?

    3 up top with a 6m option?

    Thanks

    1. 3-5-2
Don't give much thought on defcon, maybe I should though

PSG pull out of Diomande race. Madrid looking very likely now. Could Vinicius Jr really end up at Arsenal?!

thought they played on opposite sides

id assume diomande is a replacement for Rodrygo

Vini isnt leaving madrid, he just wants a new contraxct

There's no way Arsenal would contemplate paying the wages he would command . It's agent stuff trying to get him the best contract and hence a bigger slice for the agent

Are hughes or Yates going to play and who the better pick? Also Pedro Porro and konsa or kerkez and spence? Please recommend me 5.5M defenders and 4.5M defenders I’m really stuck here

I think Yates the better option at the minute

    Currently settled on this:

    Kinsky (Dubravka)
    VVD-Mosquera-Kadioglu (Thomas, van Ewijk)
    Fernandes-Saka-Szboszlai-Le Fee-Gross
    Haaland-DCL (Muniz)

    Thoughts?
