We’re looking at the key Fantasy Premier League (FPL) takeaways from the penultimate weekend of pre-season friendlies.

This time, we focus on Brighton and Hove Albion, Coventry City and Everton.

Here are the brief Scout Notes from these games.

FPL 2026/27 Pre-season Minutes, Goals + Assists Tracker

BRIGHTON AND HOVE ALBION 3-0 Roma

Lateriser: The players + teams to target ahead of the transfer top-up

  • Goals: Rutter, Ayari (x2)
  • Assists: Gomez, Rutter

Brighton and Hove Albion XI: Verbruggen; Wieffer (Costinha 60′), Vuskovic (Dunk HT), Boscagli (Middleton 85′), Kadioglu (De Cuyper 60′); Ayari (Cashin 85′), Gross (Cozier-Duberry 85′); Gomez (Yohanna 60′), Hinshelwood (Yalcouye 75′), Minteh; Rutter (Kostoulas 60′)

SCOUT NOTES

  • The Seagulls have three wins from three in pre-season, with Georginio Rutter (£5.5m) and Yasin Ayari (£5.5m) helping them comfortably beat Roma.
  • Until a Danny Welbeck (£6.0m) replacement arrives, Rutter could prove to be a very appealing cheap FPL forward. He broke the deadlock when Diego Gomez (£5.0m) passed, allowing him to whip in a left-footed curler from the edge of the box.
  • During 2025/26, no player had more shots (41) without a big chance than Ayari, as many were from long range. However, fresh from two World Cup strikes versus Tunisia, he repeated the trick here. A Brighton counter-attack led to a Roma defender’s loose pass, which Ayari drilled home.

  • The two scorers then combined for goal number three. From the left, Rutter’s pull-back was controlled and finished by the Swede.
  • Meanwhile, Saturday brought the first pre-season minutes for Lewis Dunk (£4.5m), Maxim De Cuyper (£4.5m), Costinha (£4.5m), Zadok Yohanna (£5.0m) and Luka Vuskovic (£5.0m). The latter is interesting many FPL managers because of last season’s six goals and 12.5 defensive contributions (DefCon) actions per 90 when on loan at Hamburg.
  • Before his half-time substitution, Vuskovic gathered six DefCon actions and headed a Pascal Gross (£5.5m) corner wide. There was also plenty of DefCon potential shown by Olivier Boscagli (£4.5m, eight) and Ferdi Kadioglu (£4.5m, seven).
  • Speaking afterwards, the 19-year-old is aware that the competition from Dunk, Boscagli, Pascal Struijk (£4.5m), and Michael Svoboda (£5.0m) won’t guarantee him a start. Is that enough to make managers wary of putting him in Gameweek 1 squads?

“Whoever is the best in the games, in training, he will start. It’s great to have competition in our position. We have really a lot of good players and whoever is the best, he will play and it’s as simple as that. I think it [the transfer fee] doesn’t matter so much because it’s just a number. I have to prove myself and I have to do my best and I will try to do it.” – Luka Vuskovic

  • Another notable FPL moment occurred when Yankuba Minteh (£6.0m) needed to be helped off the pitch with a leg injury. That will need scanning, and could even further solidify a Gameweek 1 start for cheap attacker Gomez. Costing £0.5m less than Gross, the Paraguayan started almost all available Brighton matches from Gameweek 6 onwards, scoring five times. A lack of Minteh and already-injured Kaoru Mitoma (£6.0m) could make him very appealing for those opening four fixtures.

“It seems to be a hit. Not particularly in the ankle area, a little bit higher. So therefore, we have to wait how it continues, the pain, and how he progresses. Of course, it’s not a great sign if a player has to go off because of pain, but we have to wait for the scan. In general, I’m a positive person, so let’s stay positive and wait for the scan.” – Fabian Hurzeler on Yankuba Minteh

Stuttgart 3-1 EVERTON

FPL Gameweek 34 differentials: Ndiaye, Guimaraes + Evanilson 1

  • Goals: Barry pen

Everton XI: Travers (King 76′); Rohl (Dewsbury-Hall 63′), O’Brien (Patterson 76′), Branthwaite (Tarkowski 80′), Mykolenko (Aznou 76′); Dibling (Ndiaye 63′), Armstrong (Foster 88′), Iroegbunam (Keane 19′), Hackney; Beto (Barry 63′), Alcaraz (George 63′)

SCOUT NOTES

  • In Germany, Everton accumulated lots of chances but lost to Stuttgart.
  • Last week, Merlin Rohl was highlighted as a promising £5.0m midfield pick, but began this one at right-back rather than on the wing. Yet he moved upfield once Tim Iroegbunam (£5.0m) had to come off in the 19th minute. There’s no word on how precautionary that substitution was. Still, the imminent Dwight McNeil (£5.5m) and Brennan Johnson (£6.0m) swap could squash Rohl’s right-wing appeal.
  • As could Iliman Ndiaye‘s (£6.0m) first minutes since his World Cup recovery. Although it was curious to see him not take the Toffees’ penalty, gained when Thierno Barry (£5.5m) ran onto Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall‘s (£6.5m) through ball and was fouled by the goalkeeper. Barry converted the spot kick himself.
  • As for Barry, he and Beto (£5.5m) keep alternating starts, but that’s his third attacking return of pre-season. His colleague couldn’t reach a tap-in on two occasions.
  • Hayden Hackney (£5.5m) played all 90 minutes, though there was no Jordan Pickford (£5.5m) or Christian Norgaard (£5.0m).

COVENTRY CITY 3-1 Espanyol

Fantasy EFL: Best Picks from the Championship 5

  • Goals: Sakamoto, Eccles, Simms
  • Assists: Kitching, Bidwell, Eccles

Coventry XI: Rushworth; van Ewijk (Kesler-Hayden 75′), Amenda (Thomas HT), Kitching (Latibeaudiere 75′), Dasilva (Bidwell 75′); Grimes, Onyeka; Sakamoto, Thomas-Asante (Eccles 75′), Tchaouna; Simms

SCOUT NOTES

  • A comeback win on home soil brought several ideas – and some complications – for those wanting a Coventry-heavy Bench Boost in Gameweek 2.
  • Bobby Thomas (£4.0m) was only seen after the break, with new signing Aurele Amenda (£4.0m) getting the first half. Thomas’s usual centre-back partner in 2025/26, Liam Kitching (£4.0m), started, lasted 75 minutes and assisted on a second successive occasion. Kitching was seen as perhaps the weaker link of the promoted centre-backs but he is the only natural left-footer, so there’s a bit of uncertainty heading into Coventry’s final friendly this Friday.
  • Kitching’s lovely pass led to Tatsuhiro Sakamoto (£5.0m) rounding the goalkeeper to equalise. The Japanese midfielder has started the Sky Blues’ last two on the right, while new signing Loum Tchaouna (£5.5m) was left-sided.
  • Those wanting a heavier midfield might like Ellis Simms (£5.0m) for this 15-player chip. The centre-forward nodded in Coventry’s third, although it’s hard to say how nailed-on he is, knowing that Haji Wright (£5.5m) is still to return. Wright’s whereabouts were unknown on Saturday; he had returned as a substitute the previous weekend but hasn’t been seen since.
  • In midfield, Gustavo Hamer is about to join, and club-record signing Caleb Yirenkyi will enter the mix. There’s a bit of a minutes concern about the set-piece-taking Matt Grimes (£5.0m), then, who looked like one of the better £5.0m midfield options.
  • With all this going on, we’ll need Friday clues and updates from Frank Lampard when they host Monaco.

FPL Marc Broadcaster, writer and overthinker. Hoping that ‘differential potential’ will catch on.

3 Coventry GW2 (BB) is seriously enticing. Yet I'm all set up for BB GW1...

2x Coventry 7defender BB is my current plan A, but any uncertainty on the £4m defenders as mentioned in the article means it needs monitoring

Yup. Hence why I'm boosting GW1 with NO 4.0m defs. Too much planning for GW2 (especially if it all goes tits up). Just planning on getting it out the way GW1 and go from there.

Forgot to mention that I plan for gw2 BB. I really want to also keep one (hopefully) playing £4m defender also going forward, as every £0.5m count. And I fancy the Coventry defenders in gw2 against Hull rather than Ispwich defenders in GW1 against Sunderland

Bobb could prove his worth at the price this season. Had a really good world cup for us, if he only could improve end product a little he could rack up assists and the odd goal.

Turn Gross to Gomez and Tarkowski into Cala/Mosq/White/Gvard - and turn that 4.5 into Haji Wright (especially if this is a BB GW2 - which it kinda looks like. Thomas better than Ewijk too)

I really like the triple up of Brobbey + Hume + ELF for the first 3 GWs before WC.

Can see at least 1 goal, 2 assists and 1 CS amongst them all in the first 3 games.

Should be easy 40 odd points before binning them on WC. Could be even grander.

All play in the front four and have 3 easy fixtures to start with.

      a) Sunderland aren't going to turn into a free flowing attacking team under Le Bris when it was their pragmatic tactics which got them into Europe.
      b) Since when has Brentford away been easy? They were good at home last season, only lost 3.

If BB1, then go for Ipswich as your 4.0 defender. Home to Sunderland is a much better match than away to Arsenal! Common consensus seems to be Davis or O'Shea, but I haven't looked into them myself at all yet

      No Bruno and No Haaland

      Captaincy becomes an issue

          1. Read my original post above and you will see I am early wildcarding so I will have Haaland and possibly Bruno by then.

        2. Haaland is still chilling on a boat so good luck having him as your captain in GW1. And if Bruno is your captain then you are paying 15.5 for a vice captain 😎

            1. Don’t like it

              1. Kidding, not keen on the defence but the midfield and front line is class.

                1. Looking at GW1 in isolation which squad scores more points?

BB GW1...appreciate your comments and suggestions. (Would have liked Gross instead of Gomez, but Gomez is looking okay.)

    Verbruggen
    Calafiori - Shaw - Gvardiol
    Mbeumo - Bruno F - Szoboszlai - Le Fee
    JDCL - Pedro - Haaland

    Kinsky - Hume - Diop - Gomez

Damn right he is. But I'm going Mosq for the added nailed-on-ness - I don't actually know this but I'm just going by what I see hear. Not an Arsenal fan AT ALL

I don’t know. Am keeping my eye on things. Some of the top managers teams close to kick off could give us a clue.

Worrying if slightly bizarre news for owners of double Arsenal defenders GW1. The Racing Post gave their Premier League predictions today and their two against the field are Gyokeres and Coventry's Haji Wright!

Cheki's their nap for most assists.

I think the sofa approach is fine for week 1 with the BB and week 2 he is isnt a captain standout, then get him for week3 perhaps to week 8 for those home fixtures.

He will probably get 60-70min home to BOU week 1, and has palace week 2. Its all about timing. He is only worth money as a captain

I was going to say where's all the money been spent, but I suppose this is what a Bruno/Haaland/Isak team looks like... Not for me but you'd probably leap into the distance if it pays off!

Super strong midfield and attack, but you pay for it at the back. Interesting though for sure

Hi everyone hope your having a good day,

SO This is my second draft, Jjust wondered what people think? I did have Palmer and Szoboszlai but Palmer has struggled in pre season and Szoboszlai has been playing pretty deep.

    Kinsky
    White Gvardiol Shaw
    Bruno Mbeumo Wirtz Foden
    Haaland JP Igor Jesus
    Dubravka Diop Thomas Yates

    0.0 itb

    Thanks guys!

Generally looks good. Need to monitor Thomas and Diop, but an easy sidestep to whoever is first choice when the final friendlies make that clearer.

Surprised to see Foden there though. Swerving Szob and Palmer based on how they look is fair enough, but Foden has looked equally bad, if not worse. I'd prefer Szob over Foden, or look into other options completely there personally.

What's the thinking behind White over Calafiori?

I don't individually hate either Wirtz or Foden as both have huge potential upsides, but to have both would be too much risk for me.

    A: Gabriel Bruno F. Isak
    or
    B: Gvardiol Wirtz Haaland + 1m ITB
    ???

I've had Fernandes (and not Haaland) in all drafts so far, and I'm fairly sure I won't have both in my GW1 team, but just looking at the options if I switch to Haaland.

Hello all, longtime! Just did a quick draft.

As every year, I think people need to consider to break fpl into two games, even more this year with the world cup and huge IB coming up where many will WC. Game 1 is to get the potential explosive players for the first 6 weeks, price risers who wont be longterm holds over the consistent defcon guys - so now is the time to gamble short term on Semenyo , Mbeumo, Wirtz, O reilly, Isak , etc before later moving to Game 2 after the international break and WC to Big at the back defcon guys and the likes of Anderson, Sangare, etc in midfield with whoever else emerges and let them tick over.

Also i cant see Haaland being a longterm pick at that price but worth covering the first 8 weeks as captain with those home fixtures (bar week 1) , hence the week 3 move. DCL is a lovely longterm pick but not a week 1-6 pick , but i could be wrong.

    Week 1 BB : 0,5mil in bank
    Verb Kin
Calafiori Maguire O Reilly, O Shea, Rodon
    Gomez Wirtz Semen Bruno Mbuemo
    Gyokeres (c) Pedro Isak

Week 3: Bruno + Gyökeres to Haaland (c)+ 4.5mid giving 3 cheap spots so BB cash is removed.

Yes Week 1 captain is a gamble, but as good as any, champions at home to newcomers, with captain on pens.

When I use BB I want as much certainty of minutes as possible. Using GW1 is enough of a risk as you have less guidance over fitness/injury/preferred players/systems, but add that to O'Reilly (Gvardiol) and Gyokeres (Havertz) risk picks... No thanks

O reilly is a maybe, may just go with Gvardiol but from the tactical stuff on the new city formation he seems to be key to break into the box, they have nobody else with that profile, without o reilly it will be a different formation, but i can easily go Gvardiol.

Havertz has played LAM all pre season on the pitch with Gyokeres at CF, they both play. There isnt really anyone else yet as none of Rice, Eze or Bruno G have trained yet. And I only play Gyok for one week.

Bruno has trained (at Newcastle) and I'd be surprised if he didn't play some of GW1 (whether that's from the start or off the bench).

I also think Bruno starts week 1, but in the holding role. Lewis skelly has played there in pre season (he usually played in the 8/LAM role last season), a quick check of the arsenal fan blogs sees everyone saying he (lewis skelly struggled alot in the 6, hence arsenal being poor in defence in pre season) and bruno will most likely start the coventry game there.

I’m done till the weekend. Sleep easy with this team.

    Lammens - Verbruggen
    White - Mosquera - Gvardiol - Palestra - Hume
    Bruno - Semenyo - Mbeumo - Tzolis - ELF
    Isak - Pedro - Brobbey

    0.5 m in the bank.

    GW 1 - BB
    GW 2 - Save
    GW 3 - Bruno + Pedro ➡ Haaland (TC) + Slater
    GW 4 - WC

Very similar to my team so obviously like it 😀

Personally I prefer Calafiori over White. And as good a striker as Brobbey is I'm not sure how much support he'll get.
