Our latest Fantasy Premier League (FPL) 2026/27 team preview focuses on Roberto De Zerbi’s Tottenham Hotspur, who keep spending big.

Here, we discuss their best FPL picks for the upcoming campaign. We’ll also attempt to predict the line-up for Gameweek 1, review pre-season, look at their set-piece takers and more.

REASONS TO BE CHEERFUL

Spurs appoint De Zerbi as new head coach 1

NEW ARRIVALS

After flirting with relegation, Tottenham have made a real statement of intent this summer, bringing in six new players, from the big-money midfield acquisitions to some savvy frees at the free.

Mateus Fernandes (£6.0m), Sandro Tonali (£5.5m), Jan Paul van Hecke (£5.0m), Marcos Senesi (£6.0m), Andrew Robertson (£4.5m) and Martin Dubravka (£4.0m) have already joined the squad, adding some much-needed Premier League experience.

De Zerbi has recently insisted that Spurs aren’t yet done in the transfer market, either.

THE DE ZERBI EFFECT

Just one point above the relegation places at the point of Igor Tudor’s departure, Tottenham ended 2025/26 with three wins, two draws and only one defeat from their final six matches.

De Zerbi injected new life into Spurs, with progress made at both ends of the pitch:

Tottenham conceded only four goals and kept two clean sheets in their last five matches, so there is a quiet confidence ahead of De Zerbi’s first full season in charge.

The importance of a full pre-season with his squad cannot be underestimated after he took over from Tudor at a very chaotic time, too.

REASONS TO BE FEARFUL

FPL notes: Shot-shy Villa rotate + is Richarlison worth a punt?

LACK OF CREATIVITY

Tottenham have been active in the summer transfer window, but after a poor season in front of goal, much more is needed up top.

In 2025/26, Spurs ranked 17th for expected goals (xG), with 40.04, which tells us there were real creativity issues.

Richarlison (£6.0m) was their top Premier League goalscorer with 11, but after that, there was a drop-off, with Joao Palhinha (five), Cristian Romero, Mathys Tel (£6.0m) and Micky van de Ven (£5.0m, all four) their next highest.

Injuries played a part, notably to creators such as Xavi Simons (£6.0m), James Maddison, Dejan Kulusevski and Mohammed Kudus (all £6.5m), but there is clear work for De Zerbi to do from an attacking perspective.

Indeed, going into Gameweek 1, and despite all the money spent, we’re looking at Richarlison, Tel and even Mikey Moore (£5.0m) forming the front three!

N17 FORM

Tottenham’s home record in the Premier League was pitiful last season.

They won only three matches, with their total of 15 points fewer than every other team apart from relegated duo Wolverhampton Wanderers and Burnley.

In contrast, they secured 26 points while playing away, which is 11 points more than they achieved at home.

If Tottenham are to achieve anything in 2026/27, their home form simply has to improve.

OPENING FIXTURES

Spurs’ first six matches sit in the middle of our Fixture Ticker. Last season’s equivalent fixtures ended with four defeats, one draw and that dramatic final-day home win over Everton.

Then again, their poor recent record versus Newcastle – six losses from nine in all competitions – means almost nothing, considering the huge changes at both clubs.

Gameweek 7 is where the schedule improves, ranked as the Ticker’s second-best between then and Gameweek 13.

Such a spell has them at home to two newly promoted teams, alongside solid trips to Leeds United and Sunderland.

With players back from injury and the transfer market shut by that point, this might be the time to pounce in FPL.

If Muki starts, he might still be OOP. Guess its a fixture where you dont need Hume as RW.

Even if Meunier starts he will. The only scenario where he doesn't play RW is if neither Meunier nor Nordi start.

Advice for the final day - dont tinker!

Youve had weeks to set up your team and most decisions have been made with a lot of thought. Any last minute decisions before the deadline most likely won't be done with as much consideration as whatever lead to your team looking like it is now. Nothing worse than making a spur of the moment change based on something you read that contradicts your initial decisions and then regretting it after the deadline.

Only changes should be based on clear injury news or reliable leaks for the arsenal game

But youve still been here for weeks thinking about what the best players are 🙂 if you find yourself suddenly considering someone today whos not been part of your plans at all it still applies.

I had a dream he starts vs Villa though but I can't really say if he was rested last night or not.

The team looks okay to me bar Hinshelwood to Groß to free up cash for Tzolis to a nailed midfielder in future, defence might also need to be upgraded. Think a more template defence could be better to start with. Verbruggen + Shaw will free up cash, however, I can understand why you picked Hinshelwood & a non template defence.

Really like it, I think De Cuyper will start against Villa and if he doesn’t you have other options at 4.5. Only issue is you are going for Konsa now who won’t play opening couple of matches so maybe think about a more nailed 4.5 than De Cuyper just so you’re not left short at the back and you can start building FT’s.

No issue with any other picks.

Just rolling the dice for 1-2 weeks, long term will own Bruno and Haaland.

You don’t mind double United defence @ Hull?
What would uou do instead of Roefs + Ballard?
Raya is 6 points but Gab/White/Cala all have routes of CS, DEFCON with goal/assist threat?

You don’t mind double United defence @ Hull? could pay off
What would uou do instead of Roefs + Ballard? pickford and 4.5 keeper? verb and a brighton defender?
Raya is 6 points but Gab/White/Cala all have routes of CS, DEFCON with goal/assist threat? true but raya will play 90 mins for sure.

                Thoughts on these tweaks?

                Roefs > Verbruggen
                Ballard > Hume
                Wirtz > Szsoboszlai
                Rogers > Le Fee
                Brobbey > Isak

The routes to points are definitely there with Szsoboszlai, think I need to lock him in. Wirtz or Rogers or neither for you?

I don't have either. Chelsea fixtures are poor, and not sure about morale in the squad. Wirtz uncomfortable price, for me at least.

Feel like the very typical thing for FPL to happen today is Cala gets subbed on 59 and White hauls.. Let the moaning begin.

Tzolis + Cala off at HT. Arsenal 2-0. Havertz brace. That's more typical imo

I'm a united fan, and I'm guna be realistic here, even tho united 's opening fixtures are great and I do think they win both games, I think they definitely concede in least 1 off them, wer still ropey at the back and dare I say at times looks chaotic, I originally went with lammens and Maguire until i Thot about it, I don't think it's a wise move it all, united wil concede

Just go Shaw and save the 0.5?

Shaw won't have much attacking returns, and as I said I really believe united will concede, lammens is the only option, as was pointed out Hel get save and bonus points,

Think Lammens is the best option for United. Dodgy defense so might get some save points and bonus

BB1, possibly WC in international break.

        BB1 (99.5):

        ___ ___ ___ Lammens
___ Van Hecke _ Shaw_ Hume
        Bruno F. _ Semenyo _ Szoboszlai _ Ampadu
        __ Haaland _ Thiago _ Calvert-Lewin

        [ Verbruggen / Gomez Mitchell O’Nien ]

Last decision I just keep switching back and forth with:

    A) Bruno + White + Kinsky
    B) Semenyo + Gabriel + Lammens + 0.5

Rest of team: X X Calafiori Maguire Mbeumo Szob

who is the best pick a for the 4 m keeper, the one less owned so less risk of dropping in price, not sure how it works?

    1. Holmes
      • 12 Years

low owned GK probably requires less transfers for a price drop

    2. Robson-Canoe

None will start, so yes pick either someone who is lowly owned or pick the backup keeper of your first choice so that you won’t have 0 points in case of an injury (only if it’s a team where you don’t eventually want three players from)

There's a different kind of intelligence in realising you might be making a wrong move while you're actually making a wrong move.
