Our latest Fantasy Premier League (FPL) 2026/27 team preview focuses on Roberto De Zerbi’s Tottenham Hotspur, who keep spending big.

Here, we discuss their best FPL picks for the upcoming campaign. We’ll also attempt to predict the line-up for Gameweek 1, review pre-season, look at their set-piece takers and more.

REASONS TO BE CHEERFUL

Spurs appoint De Zerbi as new head coach 1

NEW ARRIVALS

After flirting with relegation, Tottenham have made a real statement of intent this summer, bringing in six new players, from the big-money midfield acquisitions to some savvy frees at the free.

Mateus Fernandes (£6.0m), Sandro Tonali (£5.5m), Jan Paul van Hecke (£5.0m), Marcos Senesi (£6.0m), Andrew Robertson (£4.5m) and Martin Dubravka (£4.0m) have already joined the squad, adding some much-needed Premier League experience.

De Zerbi has recently insisted that Spurs aren’t yet done in the transfer market, either.

THE DE ZERBI EFFECT

Just one point above the relegation places at the point of Igor Tudor’s departure, Tottenham ended 2025/26 with three wins, two draws and only one defeat from their final six matches.

De Zerbi injected new life into Spurs, with progress made at both ends of the pitch:

Tottenham conceded only four goals and kept two clean sheets in their last five matches, so there is a quiet confidence ahead of De Zerbi’s first full season in charge.

The importance of a full pre-season with his squad cannot be underestimated after he took over from Tudor at a very chaotic time, too.

REASONS TO BE FEARFUL

FPL notes: Shot-shy Villa rotate + is Richarlison worth a punt?

LACK OF CREATIVITY

Tottenham have been active in the summer transfer window, but after a poor season in front of goal, much more is needed up top.

In 2025/26, Spurs ranked 17th for expected goals (xG), with 40.04, which tells us there were real creativity issues.

Richarlison (£6.0m) was their top Premier League goalscorer with 11, but after that, there was a drop-off, with Joao Palhinha (five), Cristian Romero, Mathys Tel (£6.0m) and Micky van de Ven (£5.0m, all four) their next highest.

Injuries played a part, notably to creators such as Xavi Simons (£6.0m), James Maddison, Dejan Kulusevski and Mohammed Kudus (all £6.5m), but there is clear work for De Zerbi to do from an attacking perspective.

Indeed, going into Gameweek 1, and despite all the money spent, we’re looking at Richarlison, Tel and even Mikey Moore (£5.0m) forming the front three!

N17 FORM

Tottenham’s home record in the Premier League was pitiful last season.

They won only three matches, with their total of 15 points fewer than every other team apart from relegated duo Wolverhampton Wanderers and Burnley.

In contrast, they secured 26 points while playing away, which is 11 points more than they achieved at home.

PWDLGFGAGDPts

If Tottenham are to achieve anything in 2026/27, their home form simply has to improve.

OPENING FIXTURES

Spurs’ first six matches sit in the middle of our Fixture Ticker. Last season’s equivalent fixtures ended with four defeats, one draw and that dramatic final-day home win over Everton.

Then again, their poor recent record versus Newcastle – six losses from nine in all competitions – means almost nothing, considering the huge changes at both clubs.

Gameweek 7 is where the schedule improves, ranked as the Ticker’s second-best between then and Gameweek 13.

Such a spell has them at home to two newly promoted teams, alongside solid trips to Leeds United and Sunderland.

With players back from injury and the transfer market shut by that point, this might be the time to pounce in FPL.

I really hope O'Reilly hauls to everyone's surprise but me. Circa 22% owned but the tripe talk of him returning late from the WC went out of the window in the Community Shield. I wonder if that's still the general consensus.

There is definitely a lot of unknowns but over a season I’d still fancy City for 10+ clean sheets and O’Reilly for 10 attacking returns. For me that makes him well worth 6.5.

    Quick rules based question.

If I save up 4 transfer for example and then wildcard. Do I lose the transfers stored and revert to 1?

I know you're BBing, but in every other week, you have a very expensive bench. If you're happy with that and rotating around then all good. If you don't want the mend headaches and want to get more money into your normal 11, then it might be worth dropping a mid to a 5.0/5.5, and/or one of your defenders to a 4.5

The team itself looks really good though, love all the defcon picks at the back. Somehow we've gone for very similar strategies, but very different players!

Farke was very slow to integrate Bijol and Bornauw (who never got into the team) over Struijk and Rodon last year. This year I think will be the same, it'll be Rodon's spot until form/injry/suspension gives Elvedi a chance to take it

      Structure wise, 5.0 and 4.5

They're are so many choices though depending on attacking upside (Williams) DefCon beasts (Muha, Vusko) fixtures (Maguire, Ballard), short or long term holds etc that you need to pick them really

Just checking as well that you're happy benching a 6.0+ attacker every week. Some are fine with that, many aren't

I Thot he looked leggy in the community shield, actually Thot the whole city team looked off it,could it be the adapting to the new system new style, alot as changed this summer and they have lost important players, I'm playing my BenchBoost so if haaland does go off and says scores a hattrick I'm hoping my BenchBoost will cover it, and if he's looking that great il wildcard game week 2 or 3

Mmm maybe not, in saying that if the man can say, get two assist in a game, a clean sheet maybe bonus points, he's guna fair better than haaland who will play 60 points and miten do nothing

Reposting as I made a mistake before.

    Roefs Kinsky
    Calafiori Konsa Jacquet Shaw Diop
    Rogers Wirtz Mbeumo Tzolis Groß
    J Pedro Isak Haaland

    - Main question is:

    A) Mbeumo, Haaland, Isak
    B) Bruno, Haaland, 4.5m striker fodder (no Isak and play a defender or midfielder more often)
    C) Bruno, DCL, Isak (no Haaland, upgrade Konsa to O'Reilly and Groß to Gibbs-White/Mbeumo + 1m ITB)

    - Konsa is in there IF he looks like starting for ARS, otherwise will swap to other 4.5 (maybe Brighton's De Cuyper or Kadioglu)

    Any help appreciated!

Haaland doesn’t seem worth 15.5 with Bruno better to captain in 1 and 2 especially with a new manager and lost rodri but no other premiums stand out and he just starts so well every season and Bruno doesn’t have enough goal threat for me

Looked a bit more into Tzolis' amazing stats last season. Actually in the Champions' Play Offs in Belgium he was even more productive than in the regular competition. Obviously its no Premier League, but he can do it in the bigger games and not only in the easy games. He played 10 of those games and had 8 goals and 10 assists (18 goal involvements!). We saw the confirmation in the Community Shield. Locked in my team for GW 1 to 5.

      B. But you can downgrade Rodon to van Ewijk if you like and upgrade Ndiaye to a 6.5 mid like Tzolis, Odegaard, Dewsbury Hall or Sarr. That makes it a bit stronger imo

Thanks. Got Tzolis. Going to wait and see with Sarr

      A

I think B could be good for the long term slog but for BB2 go with A

    Isak or Brobbey for BB1?

Got Pedro + Thiago locked in

Isak. But not really a fair comparison because of the 3M price difference.

I think Brobbey because of what that extra money gets you in midfield and defence, two positions which were better than forwards last season and should be again. Isak could be great but don’t see him hurting us too much first two gameweeks

    GTG?

    Raya 4.0
    Cala Maguire Gvardiol Hume 4.0
    Semenyo Mbeumo Wirtz Tzolis Sangare
    Haaland JP DCL

I’m tempted to go Gvardiol > Jacquet or Vuskovic

Gvard and Jaquet both game time risks, though Vusko isn't nailed either. Pick the one you think had the biggest upside, add your bench is good to cover if they don't play

    Final draft:
    Verbruggen (Rushworth)
Shaw Califiori Gvardiol (Cash, Van Ewijc)
    Szoboszlai, Mbueono, Tsolis, Semenyo (Slater)
    Isak, Haaland, Thiago

It should be good news for the game that out of your 15 I have 6 players.

      Looks good.

BB1, 0,5 left. Final decision with defence:
    Calafiori, Davis, Shaw, N.Williams, Hume

    a) Davis -->4,5 def (Ajer? Rodon?)
    b) Shaw -->Maguire (or other 5.0 like Muhar)
    c) save 0,5 in the bank

I have Vuskovic, Muharemovic and Sangare. Too much risk having all 3?

Yeah, all likely to play, but also all new to the league. I would start with max two of them and after Wildcard you can go all in after you have enough information

Higher risk, Higher potential reward. No one can tell you the right call here, it's just what you feel most comfortable with (or what you'd be less annoyed by if you called it wrong! )

GM from a stiflingly hot Rhodes. I was on holiday during the last deadline too, didn’t have a hot start then - could do with one now.

    BB1

    Roefs (Kinsky)
    Gab Cala Shaw (Myko Rodon)
    Bruno Mbuemo Odegaard Semenyo (Szobo)
    Pedro Thiago DCL

    Thoughts?

If you're happy benching an expensive attacker every week then go for it.

Personally I'd play Szob against the decimated Newcastle team rather than DCL against Forest.
