With the FPL Gameweek 5 deadline hours away, it’s time to see how one of our top managers is approaching the next round.

This time, we hear from Hall of Famer Dan Wright, who talks us through his squad, planned transfers and the key decisions.

Despite only starting playing FPL in 2012/13, Dan has 10 finishes inside the top 50k, of which five were inside the top 10k.

Despite a double-digit haul from Dominic Calvert-Lewin (£6.0m), Gameweek 4 didn’t go to plan. Returns from David Raya (£6.0m), Maxim De Cuyper (£4.9m) and Pascal Groß (£5.7m), in particular, cost me around 200k in overall rank.

Who’s the best captain from Arsenal?

    Gabriel or Saka?

I don't think Arsenal will keep a clean sheet.

Saka still I wouldn't captain a defender, not much upside. Saka on corners, penalties.

    FH:

    A) Pickford, Gvardiol
    B) Donnarumma, Tarkowski

    A or B guys?

    Thanks

      B

Gvardiol actually offering limited attacking threat, so Tarkowski has more upside with DefCon and set piece threat

    On WC

Thierno Barry 343 or Josh King 352?

    I can bench Barry GW8

Thinking Barry the better pick in isolation but I want a cheap midfield slot going forward because there are so many good options. Can King match Barry over the next four/five games?

    I can’t stretch to a Groß/Sangare

Team is in a bit of a mess but think I’ll be wildcarding over international break

    Kinsky,
    Calafiori, Konsa, Maguire, Ajer
    Palmer, Mbeumo, Le Fee, Gomez
    Haaland, DCL

    Verbruggen, Diop, JPedro*, Foden

    1 FT 2.8 ITB

    A) Foden > MGW
    B) Foden > Rogers
    C) Foden + JPedro > MGW + Wissa/Barry(-4)
    D) Foden + Le Fee > MGW + Barnes (-4)
    E) Diop + Foden > Munoz + MGW (-4)

Best trio on FH? Think the rest of the team is fairly locked.

    A) Hall, KDH & Wissa
    B) Bogle, Cherki & Barry
    C) Another trio with a budget of 18m

    Sels
    Tark, Munoz, xxx
    Palmer, Saka, MGW, xxx

Yeah I think Barnes/Barry is similar to KDH/Wissa. Also raises over 1m so Hall could be any defender. I love Cali (ARS fan), but away at a free scoring BHA isn't an easy fixture. Perhaps one of the City boys at home to SUN?

    Arteta on White:

    Ben White?

All good. We have another training session.

    And the others (besides Saliba).

Yeah, we have another session, and they are willing to be part of it, so we will see.

Would you start White based on this? Over Thomas/Slater?

Morning all - Feel like Wirtz is a must to come out this week but who for? Is there someone else more pressing then Wirtz?

    Raya

I think I’m almost there with my wildcard squad. So many options in defence and midfield, while Barry could be any one of DCL, Wissa or Delap. 0.7ITB helps.

    Kinsky Leno
    Calafiori Konsa Tarkowski Muharemovic Davis
    Saka Rogers MGW Barnes Gross
    Haaland JP Barry

    What do you reckon?

    1. Boberella

It’s a great team, but you’ll have some benching headaches with that def and 8 playable attackers.

Thanks. Yes, it’s a more rounded squad than the one I used for bench boost ironically! But having started the season with Bruno and Haaland, the amount of options out there has steered me towards this more spread out set-up. Will accept the bench points if it allows me to save FTs and have the depth to cope with Europe / Christmas rotation

I do like the team. Well balanced. GKs rotate fairly well. Think I’d downgrade Barry to a 4.5 to get Barnes to someone more consistent with a higher ceiling.

Probably in the order you have it. De Cuyper might pinch an attacking return but Egan is the percentage play

Depends on rest of team and there’s certainly some price differences between those options, but I’d have King on a WC.
Would want Munoz over Williams too.

If Newcastle didnt lose so badly Id go Barnes but Fulham seem to flow so well in attack,

Tricky one. Ballard might be the only one who starts. I don’t think NOR will, and who knows with White. I’d probably start White. If he’s actually fit he should start.

With Pedro most likely out, I plan to keep him. This leaves the below options. Which would you recommend?

    A. Play Egan
    B. Play Ajer
    C. Ajer to Muharemovic
