Here’s our regular update on the competition, featuring a look at the Matchday 2 games that took place over Gameweek 32. We also have some fun handing out some Matchday Awards and a look ahead to Matchday 3. Please use this article for all tournament chat.

MATCHDAY 2 RESULTS

The final Matchday 2 results have been updated in the Cup spreadsheet and we can reveal that after a hard-fought first round, New Zealand and South Africa top Groups A and B respectively. Among the most eye catching ties was the high-scoring game between Australia and Bangladesh, which ended 587-579 in Australia’s favour, courtesy of Yannick Bolasie’s hat-trick, as the Palace man was subbed onto Wakey’s team in the absence of Loic Remy.

Congratulations to all the victorious teams and a reminder to those that lost that the majority of the group matches are still to be played.

MATCHDAY 2 AWARDS

Sachin Tendulkar Award for the best batting line-up – SCO with 625 runs

Salma Hayek Overnight Award for the player of the week – Randy Milla with 78 runs from WI

Hot Urine Treatment for the highest run-scorer on the bench – Spencer with 69 runs from SRI

SAF Management Award – manager with highest manager rating – John Terry’s Dog of SCO with rating of 98%

Dalglish Differential – manager with lowest manager rating – Bonz of SAF with rating of 92%

Jose Mourinho Award for the best pressers before Matchday 2 deadline:

  I'll give my two cents though, wouldn't want Burnley defense anywhere near my WC team IMO. Double Leicester strikers isn't a good way forward to be honest, I think it leaves your team vulnerable for the run in. How about Ospina/Davis in for Myhill? Yes, I would downgrade Sanchez to Ramsey/Ozil. Then definitely upgrade Nugget IMO.

On we march through the desert storm. I pause but a moment to kick a dead cat out of our path. Such a creature was not built to survive out here. I wonder what desperation drove it out here.

The die has been cast. After our latest victory the men are jubilant and it is good to see passion in their eyes again. They are seasoned warriors now, knowing both the thrill of victory and the humiliation of defeat and they will be all the better for it.
We march West, our foe slinking into the shadows. Costainho suggests we hasten our pace and strike while the iron is hot. He is young and brave but he does not see the whole board. Our enemy is long of tooth, cunning and sly, a master of deception and propaganda.
In truth, we are stretched thin. Pakistan loom on the east, wild and fiece. Their vast army twice the size of our meagre forces. I have sent emissaries out to find reinforcements - GTS, Turtlepower, Holmes, even the mighty Moin, the hero of last week, with his Bolaise sword still gleaning with the blood of his enemies. I hope his bravery can muster the courage of our new recruits. We need to double our men, if we are to have any chance against Pakistan.
We pass strange warnings as we wild our way through the desert sands. Men strung up and tied to poles with potatoes in their mouths. Their blue and red garb is faded and worn from the sands but there is no mistaking the Kiwi uniforms. Unless perhaps you are Australian. The tribal tattoos are a dead giveaway though.
‘What does it mean?’ BabyB asks nervously. ‘These weren’t meant for us’ I reply ‘New Zealand spies’
‘Or Aussie spies, dressed as Kiwis’ Jawain prompted. ‘It matters not’ I said bluntly and hurried forward. In truth, even I am becoming impatient.

A cloud of dust rises on the horizon. At last some news. But it is not the reinforcements I was hoping for. We would have to wait another week it seems. The ranger Scab, who knows the deserts better than anyone, had returned from his scouting mission.

‘What news?’ I asked

‘The Shadows stir’ he said grimly ‘They march for our borders’

How could this be?! What sorcery is this that they came to outflank us?

‘Where are they headed?’ I bark.
‘North my Lord’
‘Who remains in the North East?’ I turn to Cheesoid, who fumbles with the map.
‘A battalion of Boyds, my Lord’

Not so bad. The Boyds are few, but they can be called upon in the time of need. Hardened soliders from the Costa Wars of yesteryear.
‘And of the North West …’ my voice trails off. For in my heart, I already know the answer and where they are headed.

‘A single Ameobi, My Lord’

  🙂 although, if I can point out one flaw.....how exactly does a sword - even a Bolaise one - gleam with blood. It's the cleaned swords that have the brightest gleam.

    A fair point but a knight in shining armour is a man who's never had his mettle tested. Fake swords that gleam or shine tend to be made from stainless steel. A battle hardened soldier is unlikely to have a shiny sword.
