Our pre-Gameweek members article, which focuses on the main captaincy contenders, arrives once again this afternoon. As always, we take a three-part approach which includes the weekly poll standings, the Opta statistics and our Rate My Team projections to help steer your thoughts on the armband conundrum.

The Captain Poll

There’s no surprise to see Eden Hazard as the runaway leader of this week’s poll. The Chelsea winger – who has earned a minimum six points in all but one of his last seven – has moved away from the chasing pack at the top of the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) standings and is backed by over 59% as the Blues face up to Arsenal and Leicester.

Raheem Sterling (15%), Jordan Henderson and Philippe Coutinho (both 3%) find a place in our top five as Liverpool prepare for trips to West Brom and Hull. Sterling has a goal and assist in the last two Gameweeks, whilst Coutinho has netted in two of the last three in all competitions, though Henderson is clearly the form player – providing a goal or assist in five of the last six league outings. Their opponents’ recent defensive form bodes well for the Merseysiders – West Brom had shipped ten goals in three prior to their 2-0 win at Palace, whilst Hull have conceded eight times in their last three, suggesting the latter two, in particular, look real armband differentials in light of their lack of votes.

Sergio Aguero is the highest ranked single Gameweek player. Having notched three times since a shift to 4-4-1-1, the Argentine (3% backing) is in fine form ahead of the visit of a Villa side with two shut-outs in eight under new boss Tim Sherwood. Harry Kane has also collected 3% of votes as Spurs travel to Southampton but with their hosts earning 11 clean sheets at St Mary’s already, the youngster faces a tough task to justify any armband investment this time out.

Two goals and a pair of assists earn Jamie Vardy 2% backing as Leicester prepare to face Burnley and Chelsea. Whilst their trip to Turf Moor holds more optimism, the Foxes have racked up ten goals in their last four and Vardy looks a key figure in their attack as Nigel Pearson prepares to take the match to the league leaders.

Further down, Branislav Ivanovic and Cesc Fabregas hover around the 1% mark. The Serbian’s propensity for returns at both ends of the pitch has seen him deliver at least five points in seven of his last nine appearances, whilst a goal and two assists in the last four has helped Fabregas return to form after a barren winter spell. With four double-figure hauls apiece this season, the duo have shown they are more than capable of explosive returns.

People have totally misinterpreted Mourinho's Remy comment imo. This may have been said but...

Mourinho said Remy "not for sure". To an Englishman, this sounds like "not sure".

But Mourinho, in context, is saying Drogba is a yes "for sure" and Remy is a no "for sure".

    i.e. definitely not fit.

And says definitely no? Just saying the "not for sure" is what FFS has reported, but a bit misleading.

IMO the Premier League should make him do his press conferences in Portuguese with a translator.

Right, this is my WC done. Costa is a gamble but i figure he could be a great differential in the top 50. I may even give him the armband....

    Schmeichel
    Terry, Moreno, Schlupp
    Haz, Sterling, Cout, Silva
    Aguero, Costa, Kane

    Panti, PVA, Bruce, Albrighton
    Bank 0.8m

    GW35: Save
    GW36: Sterling & Costa ==) Sanchez & Giroud

Mainly Jose's willingness to work Costa like a dog even when not completely fit. Also Jose's mind games. I've got Costa primarily for lei/CPL which looks likely. If he also starts at Arsenal then thats a bonus.

    Mignolet
    Terry - McShane - Duff
    Hazard (c) - Henderson - Coutinho - Sánchez
    Agüero - Kane - Giroud

    Myhill - Silva - Alderweireld - Stones

    a) Should I pick Alderweireld (against TOT) in place of Duff (Against LEI)?
    b) Should I pick Silva in place of Sanchez?
Or c) the team is ok?

3rd striker spot, what a pain in the bum I can't really stomach the idea of taking a 1 GW punt on a striker without a DGW but I only really have room for 1 Leicester so it's literally a choice of

Why can't you stomach that thought man? You've gotta weigh the points that he will potentially score in one game vs the LEI/HUL fowards score in 2 games.

To be honest, I don't see LEI/HUL getting much at all. Personally, I'm considering getting Charlie.

vs 1 VERY good chance at points. WHU are crap at home. It's food for thought. I really don't see Vardy or N'Doye getting a considerable haul.

Summary is basically this. HDAL is mates with Vardy's missus (been proved by an 11month old post!). He text her (presumably just as an extra bit of pre-caution ahead of bringing her boyf into his team), and she replied saying that actually he was 'touch and go' having picked up an injury. Hutton asked what injury etc and she replied saying it was his foot.

      Scenarios =
      a) This is true and Vardy misses the first of his 2 games this week
      b) This is true and Vardy plays both games as expected
      c) This isnt true and Vardy's missus is a lying goat who never really likes HDAL.
      d) This isnt true and HDAL has treated us all to best (and longest) trolling known to man.

Just logged on FFS first time all day, can anybody clear up this Sterling food poisoning thing? Where did this rumour come from? What do we know for sure?

    Thanks

Gündogan to Man Utd just about a done deal, per Der Westen (very reliable). Dortmund to receive €30m. Not bad, given contract ends in 2016

Opposite reports linking him to City with Dzeko going the other way (plus money).

Stupid to keep Siggy , instead of getting Henderson for a hit?
