The transfer of Mikel Arteta to Arsenal this week has many a Fantasy manager eyeing up the new Gunners midfielder. Priced at just 8.0 in Fantasy Premier League (FPL), Arteta looks, potentially, a real value for money option this season, bringing a much-needed maturity to the Arsenal playmaker role in light of Cesc Fabregas’ departure to Barcelona.

In today’s Members Article, we delve into the statistics from last season, looking at a variety of factors to ascertain whether they offer a hint at just what Arteta could offer Arsenal –and, of course, Fantasy managers- in the campaign ahead:

Not entirely sure, but I *think* that Adebayor will be and Arteta will not.

Has he been red/yellow flagged recently? I was under the impression that players who moves clubs, within the Premier League, don't get protected. That's why Nasri went up in price on 01-Sep, after making the move on 24-Aug.

Adebayor obviously also moved within Premier League clubs, but he wasn't on the FPL game while at City, so FPL don't recognise that. He was only added to the game a couple of days ago so he'll definitely be protected.

Current experimentation involves a hefty defence:

    Krul (Vorm)

Baines - Santos - Bosingwa (Simpson, N. Taylor)

Silva - Bale - Jarvis - Barton (Dyer)

    Rooney - RVP - Holt

It goes against my promise to myself to keep Luis Suarez but I do really like the look of it. Bale and Holt are interchangable with Adebayor and Hoolahan as well.

You should always keep your promises. Value for money Suarez is one of the best, if not the best fantasy prospect. (pick him over RvP).

      Also I'd go Hoolahan/Adebayor over Bale/Holt.

Finally Barton has lost a lot of luster since he wont be on freekicks. Petrov is a better bet.

Oh, and Santos for 5.5 - you can do better with Enrique/Brown/Hughes...

That's the kind of voice of reason I needed 😀 I'm not getting rid of RVP but my original plan had him, Rooney and Suarez anyway.

Santos is a gamble but his scoring record is ridiculous for a defender, if he can be anything like that in the Prem (plus I reckon Arsenal's defence will be solid now anyway) he'll be gold. Hard to fit him in if I go for the aforementioned strikers though, unless it's at Baines's expense.

I keep going back and forth. The price could very easily drop but his next two games could very easily counter that.

He was great last year, but when I compare him and say Santos, I think maybe he'll outscore him in the next two weeks, but for the four after that he almost certainly won't.

I don't have Baines (expense) but I actually think he'll do better now Arteta's gone. Reasons are:

                1. With Arteta gone Baines will take more spot kicks.

                2. This new Argie looks useful with his head. I went to the Everton v Sheff Utd game and I don;t think Everton won a single ball in the air in their area. New forward could change that and get on the end of Baines crosses. And Cahill due to return makes 2 targets.

Still think Baines is expensive but can see him getting more points.

Wilkinson is a horrible pick. Not guaranteed to play, and has poor fixtures. Simpson definitely a much better option at that price.

Rest is fine though, although I'm personally still unconvinced by Anderson's merits as an FPL option. I'd personally rather someone like Jarvis or Taarabt.

    WC Dilemma:

    A) Given 4.0
    Kompany Bosingwa Santos Simpson Taylor
    Young Nasri Walcott Barkley Petrov
    Adebayor Dzeko Suarez

    B) Given 4.0
    Bosingwa Enrique Simpson Brown Ward
    Nasri Walcott Mata Barkely Petrov
    RVP Rooney Best

So basically it comes down to who will score more between:
Kompany, Santos, Taylor, Young, Ade, Suarez, Dzeko or
Enrique, Brown, Ward, Mata, RVP, Rooney, Best.

I think A is stronger all round, what do you think?

Like I said I didn't watch, just passing it on. Either way though I'm sure he's not "nailed on" he's like 17 and very raw. Cahill, felli, osman, rodwell I'd imagine are starters so he's competing for one spot with drenthe, bilya, anichebe etc.

    yo,

Thoughts on my team (not a wildcard) -

    Hilario (Vorm)
Warnock, A Cole, Senderos (Simpson, Brown)
    Walcott, Nasri, O’Hara, Sinclair (Moses)
    Rooney, Dzeko, Suarez

I figured it would do for next week.
The defence is minging, if Senderos doesnt start Ill ship him out for the following week for someone of a similar price.

Ill just keep cashley for now.

        Cheers lads,
Yep Cech is due back soon. I figured the Hilario transfer could wait two weeks, hopefully Hilario will be in net v Sunderland and then i'd play Vorm the week after.

I had 2 free's so did N'Zog -> Nasri and Torres -> Dzeko. Third transfer is Cahill -> Walcott I reckon.

One of the best teams i've seen i'd say. Not as completely generic as most! The only two I'd have a re-think on are Enrique and Mata. I've not massively confident in Liverpool clean sheets and Stoke have cheap and reliable options. Given Woodgate is sitting out all European football and has had no niggles he is starting to look like a great option (I held off him to begin with). Mata will be excellent in time but after one sub appearance I'd rather go with Nasri Silva or Adam-all with play in teams who look like they are going to rack up the goals. Can always swap easily for Mata in a couple of GWs

B is much better which is why it costs more. Bale/Adebayor could be fairly even, Ade may edge it, but RVP long term is muc more reliable than Theo, and it's hard to imagine Theo doing much without RVP scoring big as well.

      Pretty good team overall.

I don't fancy Smalling. They continue to have a tough run of fixtures ahead, and they've yet to keep a cleansheet... even against a weakened Arsenal side. When their fixtures do ease up, Smalling may already be out of their starting eleven.

Foster has a good run of fixtures coming up, but I can't trust West Brom's defence. He'll probably get loads of save points though.

Think I've finally resolved not to get Leighton Baines.

He has a very good chance of scoring highly in the next two weeks but there are other cheaper options who could match him. And after that he has 5 torrid weeks, when I don't think Everton or he personally will have much joy.

Liable to change my mind again in five minutes.

Will Taylor have his place for much longer? I expect he'll start at QPR but i thought it was a matter of time till Santon took the LB spot.

Formica is a tough one. Cheap yes but that's of little use if you actually want to play him occassionally as he seems to be coming off the bench every week at the moment.

Ruiz? No idea. I just don't like the idea of putting forward who are new to the league straight into my team..... needless to say i didn't/don't have Aguero 😀

Those two and Petrov are the main options at 5.5. Someone earlier said Hoolahan was left out against Stoke as he wanted a more physical team, early subs a la Chelsea may be a risk though. I've got Hoolahan at the moment, he has a lot more upside than Watson and his fixtures suit my team better than Petrov's.

Risk taking the 4 point hit and taking our Taraabt for Arteta?

Big risk that I wouldn't take personally. Don't know how Arteta is going to look for Arsenal whereas Taarabt has threatened for QPR and could easily get double figures in one match if things go his way. Arteta could have a great game and only get 2.
