New recruits to the Premier League from both promoted sides and abroad were among the issues considered this week by our community writers and hot topic posters. Rotation strategies once again come under discussion and we also found out about some of our community’s Fantasy football family rivalries.

The Community Articles

Goalkeepers came under the spotlight of Kompany Man in his look at why West Brom’s Ben Foster and Boaz Myhill may just be 2015/16’s most important goalkeepers for Fantasy managers. Those looking to use West Brom’s defensive assets within their squad are also advised to read Teddy’s look at next season’s best rotation pairs.

RuthNZ completed his epic team review series this week, with Aston Villa and Leicester and Newcastle and Sunderland bringing this informative collection to an end, while Bowstring the Trout has been taking a look at Crystal Palace’s incredible turnaround in fortunes under Alan Pardew.

Don’t forget, if you’ve got some analysis, scout reports or features brewing, be sure to visit our community section to submit your article.

The Hottest Topics

Giggs Boson has been looking at the promoted sides’ prospects of success, with his analysis of their clean sheets potential as they make the step up to top-flight football. The Serjeant also dropped by within this discussion to offer some further information on the prospects of shut-outs for Norwich, Watford and Bournemouth.

Defenders and goalkeepers from promoted sides are likely to be within the budget price bracket and therefore prime candidates for a rotation strategy. But with Petr Cech’s likely move to Arsenal and price hikes likely for former budget favourites such as Costel Pantillimon we asked  could the end the cheap rotating keeper strategy be coming?

Other potential value players for rotation could be the wave of new recruits into the Premier League from abroad this summer. Here we look back on some of the community’s favourite additions to the Premier League, and some of those who failed to make the grade.

There was further fixture-based discussion this week around defender selection in Ludo‘s look at the Premier League’s toughest fixtures, Couti and the Below5th‘s research into the managers most likely to keep clean sheets and Twisted Saltergater‘s update to his clean sheet ticker.

Meanwhile, reliable old stagers, who are proven performers most week, were discussed in Lucy’s look at fixture proof defenders.

Elsewhere, Anorak revealed his a love hate relationship with Ultimate Fantasy Premier League, and his desire to see it back next season.

Relationships of the family variety can also be put to the test when partners, sons, daughters and siblings take each other on in Fantasy Football. Wakey and Lucy are amongst our community members to tell us about how their family competitions pan out.

The Members Tables

Chenku has taken the simple approach to organising his latest table on the best attackers last season by sorting by the number of goals scored. But his interesting table has more to it than that essential statistic, with assists, chance creation and goal conversion rates also taken into account.

If you’re a member and are yet to get to grips with the custom statistics tables, you can view this movie for an explanation of how they work. Also, remember to tag them so that people can find the tables with ease.

Need to make my Euro U21 changes for the semi's tonight (working tomorrow)

273rd so need to make up ground. Thinking of gambling on an all Danish D, with a mix of Germans, Portuguese and Danes in attack.

    Busk (c)
    Vestergaard, A Christensen, Scholz
Can, Meyer, B Silva, Mario, Hojbjerg
    Volland, Fischer

    Bardi*, Korb, Guerreiro, Srnic*

2.5 ITB and 1 free transfer remaining.

Hows the team looking ?. Are they all likely to start ?.

Strategy depends on a Danes clean sheet. Busk more likely to get save points, than defenders to score, or forwards to contribute twice ?.

Since we got onto the subject of potential fpl opening dates, I thought I'd share my comments on the situation. I think we're definitely looking at an early July date this year.

    1) The closest that the fpl game has opened to the season beginning is 24 days when it's doors flew open in 2011. If it is to be the same distance prior this year, it would have to open by July 15th.

    2) However, over the past 5 years, the average works out to be 30 days before season beginning. This would put a start date of July 9th this year.

    3) The earliest that fpl have stated the game was July 4th, back in 2004 (over 6 weeks before the curtain-raiser).

With this in mind, a July 4th-15th date seems reasonable, and if I we're to make a best guess it would be Fri July 10th.

That said, who really knows? There are sure to be some false hopes ahead as we hang on for the new ff season to begin!

I think this they'll to make it as close as possible... Otherwise they may miss out on intra-premier league transfers and we may get some bargains (some one moving to a better team or moving the other direction for first team security )

To a degree I guess, there is only so much one country can support, I feel mainly more should be done to aid countries where people wish to then immigrate from, that's where the real problem is.

      1. Licky

The European immigration doesn't particularly bother me though, because the people arriving aren't typically refugees and are usually educated.

Aye. So I guess it all boils down to what's more important.

Immigration for selfish reasons to benefit us, or immigration for selfless reasons to help those in need.

                • 13 Years
                10 years, 5 months ago

It does indeed, that's why more should be done to aid the route cause of the problem rather than settling large quantities of refugees.

How do you propose doing that? Refugees are just that - seeking refuge from oppression or harm.

That's the UNs problem isn't it, there will always be refugees, I don't see how its feasible to accept them to the west every time something happens, more has to be done to eradicate the issue in impoverished or war torn places to improve the quality of life. Though that will never happen so its a double edged sword. :/

It's very difficult to help countries where the political system is corrupt. Providing financial aid would only line the pockets of unscrupulous leaders. We are members of the UN so it's our responsibility too.

I understand that completely Lucy, some kind of direct action is needed in those cases but its obviously quite a difficult situation then. :/ It'll have to happen to make countries more equal, but where do you begin? It'll be a good start. Frankly I've played it two years and come 101 and about 450. And I've made some obvious mistakes.

If you are into fantasy football it's a really cool counterpart to the FPL game as it gives a little more things to think about in terms of transfer plans.

Similar but different enough to give a dual focus. Also money can be won if that's your bag too.

It's the one game I'm confident of challenging for overall top spot at least once in my life. Quite easy to do well simply by keeping up with it.

Definitely. Season before last I was top 30 and did the mega gamble of taking out Suarez for one game so I could captain him home versus Sunderland and have another captain in 4 games. The game I dropped him (and everyone captained him) was Cardiff away. I think 3 goals and a hat trick.

            Very upsetting.

As you say though, stick at it and you can get up there.

Rather disappointing to see so many of the smart guys round here planning to play it this year - I'm planning on having a pop but it looks like I've missed the golden age of shooting casuals in a barrel 🙁

It's usually before or has been in the last 2 years. Which I think it quite cunning but probably leads to quite a few dead teams.

I am really intrigued by this Okazaki transfer, what would have actually made it happen?
A mediocre 29-year old striker, 4 year contract, and I'd argue Ulloa and Kramaric are much better, they have Vardy too.

    Bit weird.

Have to say, this refereeing is damn amateurish for a tournament of this level. Has been throughout, but that referee running in front of the pass from a free kick was just ridiculous. That's where women's football really should get better.

And I think every single offside call so far has gone wrong. I may be exaggerating, but fortunately those did not lead to goals. Meanwhile they've missed a few real offsides. Foul calls have been very correct though, so respect for that. It's mostly justifier movement that is so bad that to call it second rate would be a compliment.

Absolutely great! Very entertaining, intense, high tempo, technically high level football match. And this despite still being 0-0.

The story has been France pressing aggressively and Thomis and Delie running past German defenders constantly, good amount of good chances both from open play and set pieces. Especially in the first 15 minutes. One very good chance for Germany too. The way France dominates Germany (FIFA ranking no. 1) makes England almost look good. That's quite surprising. We knew that on level of individuals France would be superior, but Germany is multiple World and European champion, the experience and team play should make difference for their advantage, but so far, they have huge difficulties in just getting a pass to own player. They rely quite a lot on Angerer now. And why not to rely on world's best GK? Their male compatriots often do the same and we've seen the results.
