Having racked up two goals and 14 assists for Ipswich in 2013/14, Aaron Cresswell’s raiding displays persuaded former West Ham boss Sam Allardyce to splash the cash last summer. Immediately nailing down a starting berth, the left-back was one of only four outfield players to feature from start to finish in every one of his side’s league fixtures in the previous campaign.

Cresswell’s displays saw him named as the Hammer of the Year and Player’s Player of the Year in his debut top-tier campaign and his performances were noteworthy enough to attract reported interest from Premier League big boys Manchester City and Chelsea.

Having opted to sign a new five-year deal at West Ham over the last couple of weeks, Cresswell will be keen to push on under new boss Slaven Bilic this time around as the Hammers prepare for their final season at Upton Park…

Key Factors

    • Cresswell’s haul of attacking returns last term (two goal and four assists) was more than respectable yet didn’t quite do justice to his impressive underlying statistics. Comparing his goal threat to fellow defenders, only Branislav Ivanovic (11) fashioned more attempts on target than the Hammers full-back over the course of the previous campaign. Furthermore, Cresswell sat joint top – alongside Seamus Coleman – with regards to shot accuracy (47.4%) among those defenders that fired off at least ten attempts. Turning our attention towards his creative influence, Cresswell served up 34 chances for his team-mates, which was just two shy of Ivanovic’s total and only bettered by three other defenders.

    • Having tallied 129 points last time out, Cresswell has retained his 5.5 starting price. Only three teams (Queens Park Rangers, Crystal Palace and Newcastle United) accrued fewer clean sheets than the Irons (nine) in the previous campaign, so unless Bilic’s arrival engenders a substantial improvement on the defensive front, Cresswell’s value lies in his attacking potential. The fact that the former Ipswich Town man never pushed past the 5.7 mark last season and ended with a mere 5% ownership suggests he could become a differential to watch in that mid-price bracket, should he be overlooked once again.

    • Beyond a flirtation with the top four berths at the halfway point of the season, West Ham’s promising campaign fell apart. Their greatest shortcoming was a severe lack of goals, given that the final 16 league matches of Sam Allardyce’s reign harvested just nine. With Bilic at the helm, however, the Hammers are likely to be adopt a 4-4-2 or 4-2-3-1 set-up – crucially, the former Croatia manager, who’s been stressing the importance of attacking with fluidity and numbers, favours inverted wingers, which should afford Cresswell license to maraud forward and provide the width, thus enhancing his attacking prospects.

    • Notwithstanding a trip to London rivals Arsenal in Gameweek 1, West Ham’s start to the new campaign throws up some enticing match-ups. Visits to Liverpool (Gameweek 4) and Manchester City (Gameweek 6) should also prove stern tests, yet the remaining six fixtures up to Gameweek 9 (LEI, BOU, NEW, NOR, sun, cpl) all present decent opportunities for clean sheets.

Only able to follow the BBC updates in work, but very glad Broad seems to be finding some form, I was worried we might be over-reliant on Jimmy again.

While I feared the Aussie bowling attack, I think their batting line up is bang average.

    Fantasy Draft 15/16
So this year Fantasy Football has a huge buzz, especially for me. Picking the perfect team, alternating it, putting your “top” players and punts in your watch list to weed out the players that do not interest you. This can be frustrating but can come with the life of a fantasy football manager. To me, the perfect watch list is the key to making it good in the competition, not only your starting off watch list, but how you alternate it though out the season with the few surprise players that the season throws at us. But it is that starting team that gets the ball rolling and for that you will need to scout the right players and have the right ones in the watch list in the team. Maybe it is just me but I like a small concise watch list. To me, that is double of what they allow you in each position at most. (4 GK’s, 10 DEF, 10 MID, 6 FWD) that 30 players on the watch list can include your current team so you can think of the other 15 as your reserve team where some players deserve a promotion while others deserve a demotion. Trying to keep the list at 200m (full 30 players) can be tricky but not needed as you won’t be doing a full rotation (I hope!). I have compiled a list of players from each price bracket that I feel is worth watching. I kept it three or under for each price bracket and this is obviously open to debate and opinions:
    GK:
    [4.0 Bracket]: not recommended imo
[4.5 Bracket]: Speroni, Kasper S, Bourc
    [5.0 Bracket]: Mignolet, Loris, Adrian
    [5.5 Bracket]: Cech, Courtios, Hart

    DEF:
    [7.0 Bracket]: Ivan, Terry
    [6.0 Bracket]: Azp, Coleman, Kompany
    [5.5 Bracket]: Clyne, Fonte, Jag
    [5.0 Bracket]: Cedric, Lescott, Alderweireld
    [4.5 Bracket]: Morgan, O’Shea, Mings
    [4.0 Bracket]:

    MID:
    [11 Bracket]: Sanchez, Hazard
    [10 Bracket]: Silva
    [9.0 Bracket]: Walcott, Sterling, Fab
    [8.5 Bracket]: Depay, Eirksen, Firmino
    [7.5 Bracket]: Cuadrado, Siggy, Payet
    [7.0 Bracket]: Herrera, Mirralas, Hendo
    [6.0 Bracket]: Wilshire, Walters, Ward-Prowsie
    [4.5 Bracket]: Wanyama

    FWD:
    [10.0-11.0 Bracket]: Costa, Rooney
    [9.0-9.5 Bracket]: Kane, Giroud
    [8.5 Bracket]: Benteke, Bony
    [8.0 Bracket}: Pelle, Lukaku
    [7.5 Bracket]: Ings, Dzeko, Falcao
    [7.0 Bracket]: Gomis, Rodriguez, Jovetic,
    [6.5 Bracket]: Sakkho
    [6.0 Bracket]: Hernandez

There may be a few surprise picks by me but as stated it is open to opinion. I feel these picks could perform well for their price bracket and quite possibly and hopefully slightly outperform the price they were given! Hernandez for example was given a small price of 6.0. That is understandable considering his statistics the last seasons under Moyes and SAF. But since his loan spell this will be his first season under LVG. It will be interesting to see will he be used and how so. To me he is a player to watch! With RVP’s exist coming, we could see him getting involved if united do not buy a top name up front! Only time will tell I suppose
I left a few slots blank as I feel you will not get too much bang for your buck with them, especially with the new bench coin booster added to the game! You may need one filler in midfield maybe like Wanyama or your own choice within the 5.0/4.5 price range but you I would recommend a regular player that will get game time so you have a less chance of getting a 0. All of this is open to opinion and take from it what you will. These are players I feel that are there to watch, I do not have them all on my watchlist I just added a few players to suit others peoples preferences

      [4.5 Bracket]: Bentaleb

Interesting 😀 Agree with a lot of this but then...

You're ignoring all of Mata, Ramsey, Yaya and Ozil? Mental 😮 And they get dumped for high-profile but unproven Firmino and Depay and less consistent Eriksen?

I'm not fully ignoring them by any means. Well yaya I am but Mata, Ramsey and Ozil are people I am tinkering with... Ramsey especially. Depay I feel will hit the ground running. Firmino I am unsure over but we know he has potential which is why he is just watchlist material rather than team material right now. thanks for the input

overpriced for me and can get plenty under him with a more even point getting range.. With the new chips you can use it is best for me to keep as evenly spread monies as possible to get as much starters as possible. I will still have my heavy hitters. Have Fab, Ivan, Kane, Giroud etc in my team along with people like henderson. May be just me but I like an even spread of finances

save ratio may be good this season, just dont see too much clean sheets and see him outside the top 5 (6 or 7 maybe) in overall rankings. Anything can happen I know but as things stand he is just outside my radar unless they do well at the start

The state of the wicket has nothing to do with whether the ball is seaming lol. Seaming is movement through the air.

This is a flat, slow pitch but today's conditions are allowing the English bowlers to use a seam attack.

You are wrong. Seam movement is off the pitch when the seam hits a crack or some grass and it deviates slightly. Swing is through the air.

I'm a bit worried that Aguero might not start the first couple of GWs.
To fit in Walcott I could swap out Kosc for a cheaper player, thinking Wollshied from Stoke at 4.5. How is that?

I suppose captaincy has to be the foundation of our teams.

Aguero can have the armband every week - not so sure about Silva - he's more of a long term buy that keeps ticking over.
Costa and Hazard are the strong candidates from Chelsea. Fabregas isn't so explosive.
Sanchez is the man at Arsenal. I suppose you could also make a case for Giroud.
Rooney is a candidate if he's up front - not sure I'd trust in Mata/Di Maria.
    Sturridge from Liverpool
    Kane from Spurs.
Maybe the likes of Benteke or Austin when they have an outstanding fixture.

Do we need to have at least 2-3 of these big hitting players?

Silva - Fabregas - Di Maria - Ozil - Mane
    Benteke - Lukaku - Deeney

Looks like a strong front eight at first glance, and in a game without captains, it might score as well as any other. In this one though, the budget players are there not because they look sexy written down, but because they enable you to score more points overall. This is why I'm not sure about 3-5-2, or even having more than one budget striker. Midfielders may score as well as forwards in the long run, but they tend to be consistent rather than explosive (bar the likes of Sanchez, Hazard and Walcott) - you want the armband on a man that can score a hattrick.

Swapping Lukaku, Silva, Fabregas and Mane for Aguero, Hazard, Ritchie and Wanyama gives you two reliable captains and two budget players, rather than four good players you wouldn't want to captain.

Very well said, Ludo. That's exactly how I look at it too. You need at least 2 captaincy options for each week. Which brings me to the point that you need at least 2 out of Sanchez, Hazard, Costa and Aguero in your team.

I suppose Kane performed at the same level as those four last season as well, though there are question marks over whether he can repeat the trick. Rooney and Sturridge have been options of that calibre in the past as well.

Yup, Rooney's a captaincy option too if he doesn't get shifted to the midfield. And looks like he might play upfront at the moment. That's exactly why I have him. 😉

I'm going for WHU, BOR, NOR, STK and LEI as a nice rotation for the first 5 weeks. 11/15 at home, 14/15 against promoted/bottom half teams. Not perfect but decent for £23m.

Replace NOR with WBA for an extra £0.5m after GW5 and it keeps going nicely until GW11.

Great player, but not a great FPL player.

I don't think he'll score as many goals as he did last season, and then you're left with an injury prone, potentially wide player often pulled off early with 3 bad fixtures for a premium price.

At the same price, I'd say no, at 1.5m more than other great options, HELL no! 😀

It's difficult. I think you'd have to rely on a bare bones defensive rotation. Something like:

      4.5/4
      4.5/4.5/4.5/4.5/4.5
      8.5/8.5/7/6/4.5
      13/11/10.5

The irony in Van Persie wanting to leave Man United because he felt betrayed by the club.

Will play but far from nailed on as a starter.

with sanchez potentially out for the start of the season, walcott will be given his chance I think

Strange days when Walcott isn't nailed. Last season was mainly easing him for competative football.

Can't see any reason why he wouldn't be starter.

All depends on if we sign anyone and even if we don't he'll likely share time with Giroud and others.

Mad that he's not nailed on, but he's close to being nailed on and will get a few games at the start with Sanchez supposedly rested. Always has Giroud's striker spot to have for himself at points too. Worth the gamble I think.

    Best defence line for 25?

I`m on Mertesacker, Moreno, Alderwield, Cedric and Richards.

      Too much for my taste.

      I'm looking something like 5.5 / 5.0 / 4.5 / 4.5 / 4.0 = 23.0 or if I get Azpi its 23.5

      Wes Morgan

Depends on fixture. Get a rotating pair - a cheap defender has a much better chance of keeping clean sheets at home, statistically speaking.
