This afternoon we publish our usual pre-Gameweek members article, which focuses on the main captaincy contenders according to the votes cast in our Captain Poll. As always, we take a three-part approach which includes the weekly poll standings, the Opta statistics and our Rate My Team projections to help steer your thoughts on the armband conundrum.

The Captain Poll

Sergio Aguero (53%) reclaims the top spot in our Captain Poll ahead of Manchester City’s home tie against Newcastle United. Although the 13.2-priced forward has recorded five successive league blanks, his owners will be hoping he can kick on after scoring a midweek Champions League winner against Wolfsburg.

The favourable nature of the Sky Blues’ match-up finds Kevin De Bruyne – who’s netted in three of his four starts since arriving from Wolfsburg – sitting in silver-medal position with 10% of the votes. Fit-again David Silva (2%) also makes an appearance, given that the Magpies have conceded twice in five of the first seven Gameweeks.

Dimitri Payet lies in third place for the second successive Gameweek, with 7% of voters liking the Frenchman’s chances away to Sunderland, bearing in mind that the Wearsiders have conceded more goals (16) than any team so far. Payet has delivered attacking returns in all but two of his starts this campaign, underlining the consistency of his output. Diafra Sakho is backed by only 1% of the voters despite notching in three of the four Gameweeks, including strikes on the road against Liverpool and City.

Riyad Mahrez and Jamie Vardy are both backed by 4% of voters as Leicester prepare to lock horns with Norwich at Carrow Road. The former has served up five double-figure hauls already, while the latter netted five goals in his previous four outings. The Canaries have yet to register a single clean sheet in the first seven Gameweeks.

Despite bagging a hat-trick last time out against Leicester, Alexis Sanchez scooped just 3% of the votes as Arsenal entertain a United side that’s conceded just five goals this term.

Notching a brace against Aston Villa in just his second league start since vacating the treatment room, Daniel Sturridge has encouraged 1% of to hand him the armband for the Merseyside derby, given that hosts Everton have yet to record a home clean sheet.

Anthony Martial (1%) – who sat atop the summit last Gameweek – plummets down the rankings by virtue of the Red Devils’ much more challenging match-up. The Gunners have conceded just two goals in their home clashes this term, yet the former Monaco frontman looks in fine fettle and has produced points in all three of his appearances so far.

    A) Pedro -> Silva (-4)
    B) Mane & Pelle -> Silva & Berahino (-8)

    Will WC in GW11 and bring back the Saints, so would only be losing them for (che, LEI, liv)

    Ruddy
    Kolarov, Bellerin, Huth
    Sanchez, Pedro, Mane, Mahrez, Sinclair
    Aguero, Vardy

        The opposition. United and Watford are both fairly tight teams defensively.

        I've not ruled it out yet though 🙂

        Wally in for Silva in GW10 before a GW11 WC is the current plan

      No idea why you would want to get rid of Pelle now. Chelsea, Leicester and Liverpool have all been shocking at the back and are great fixtures right now.

        Pelle has a bad record away from home and rumours are that JT is going to start, and I fancy him to deal with Pelle fairly easily.

        That being said, I think I do prefer A) as can see Saints doing well against LEI and liv, and it could mean I don't need to WC in GW11.

          Ivanovic has conceded something like 70+ crosses down his flank in the league and Tadic has made the most crosses down the same flank. Can see Pelle benefiting there.

            Perhaps, but I think Terry will see off Pelle when the crosses come in. That's his bread and butter and the one thing he struggles against (pace), Pelle lacks.

              The pace of Mane could be an issue though. Depends which way Jose see's it and what his relationship with JT is like right now. Zouma could well start.

    Who do you think will concede the least goals out of Cedric and Huth? Need to decide who gets the last defensive spot and don't like taking a hit in defence.

    Despite being away to Chelsea I am leaning towards Cedric as can see the Leicester game being a goal fest

          Still a good captain. Coates is pretty awful as well.

            It's him or Surgeo, but that was my first moment of temptation, it's been on Payet all week. And rule number one...

    Already did 2 Transfers With -4 it Worth to sell Yaya and get KDB with -8 Pts or Just Play Westwood ?

      KDB would have to score for you to break even.

      You can just do that move next week for nothing if you really want KDB - plus morning information which might force you to look somewhere else.

    Nothing to wait for now? So do my transfers Yaya and Rondon to Mata and Lukaku -4?

      I think you could avoid one of those transfers and not do the -4, Yaya is more pressing since he is hurt. But to bring in Mata vs Arsenal, and Lukaku vs Liverpool in the derby (if i'm not mistaken about that fixture), seems kinda hard fixtures to do -4 for.
