The EA Index scores for gameweek 7 are now available and the Fantasy Premier League bonus points have now been added to the game. Read on for our breakdown of how these mapped out – we will update you should any EA PPI stats or bonus points be reviewed.

Aston Villa 2 Wigan 0
Agbonlahor 3, Collins 2, Bannan 1

Gabby Agbonlahor was well out in front in the PPI stakes and, with a goal and an assist, there can be no complaints on his 3 bonus award. James Collins put in another strong defensive display – enough to see him earn another couple of bonus, with Barry Bannan adding to his maximum at QPR with another single bonus point – courtesy of his assist in this game.

Blackburn 0 Man City 4
Nasri 3, Johnson 2, Kolarov 1

With a goal and two more assists in this City victory, it’s no shock to see Samir Nasri fetch the top PPI score and help himself to 3 bonus – his first maximum of the season. Adam Johnson’s crucial opener provides him with the platform for his first bonus, while Aleksandar Kolarov picked up the remaining point, edging out David Silva in the PPI stakes with an assist and clean sheet.

Bolton 1 Chelsea 5
Lampard 3, Sturridge 2, Luiz 1

Back in form, back in the goals and subsequently in line for 3 bonus points from Chelsea’s Reebok demolition. It’s no surprise to see Daniel Sturridge pick up the 2, while David Luiz came away with a couple of assists which helped him to an impressive PPI haul.

Everton 0 Liverpool 2
Carroll 3, Enrique 2, Kelly 1

Andy Carroll’s opener sealed him Liverpool’s leading PPI score in the win at Everton. Jose Enrique provided the assist for that opening goal and that helped him to a high ranking and 2 bonus points. Martin Kelly is perhaps a surprise for the single bonus point however – his PPI presumably boosted by the clean sheet, which saw him edge out Luis Suarez by just 2 points in the Index (26 vs 24).

Fulham 6 QPR 0
Johnson 3, Zamora 2, Murphy 1

These always looked cut and dry – Andy Johnson’s hat-trick and Bobby Zamora’s goal and assists settle the top spots in the PPI. Danny Murphy’s spot-kick and assist contributed to him collecting a single bonus; Clint Dempsey was unlucky not to be in line for extra points considering a strong PPI score of 32 on the day.

Man United 2 Norwich 0
Anderson 3, Jones 2, Evans 1

Anderson was clearly out in front when it comes to United’s PPI scores – his opening goal helping him to the maximum bonus here. Phil Jones and Jonny Evans came away with clean sheets and accrued defensive stats that helped them collect the remainder. Danny Welbeck and Antonio Valencia were just outside bonus recognition.

Sunderland 2 West Brom 2
Bendtner 3, Long 2, Elmohamady 1

Nicklas Bendtner earned his first FPL bonus of the season with a goal and an assist in the 2-2 with West Brom. The Baggies’ Shane Long is line for the 2 bonus, with Elmohamady picking up the remainder, just edging out team-mate Seb Larsson.

Swansea 2 Stoke 0
Graham 3, Sinclair & Allen 2

Danny Graham’s first goal in the top flight fetches him the maximum with Scott Sinclair having to share the 2 bonus with Joe Allen who earned an assist. That meant that both Ashley Williams and Neil Taylor – tied on 19 PPI – both missed out.

Tottenham 2 Arsenal 1
Walker 3, Van der Vaart 2, Adebayor 1

Kyle Walker’s winner is enough to earn him the maximum here with Rafael Van der Vaart in on the act courtesy of his opening goal. Adebayor provided the assist for that strike – no surprise to see him collect the remaining bonus then. Aaron Ramsey was just a single PPI point from sharing that bonus.

Wolves 1 Newcastle 2
Gutierrez 3, Tiote 2, Cabaye 1

No real surprise here – Gutierrez scored the decisive second goal with Cabaye providing the assist for Ba’s opener. Tiote presumably collected some impressive performance statistics to help him to 2 bonus – we will break those down in detail over in our Scout bonus breakdown at the FPL later today.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Just looking at some possible transfers for the next few game weeks. These are my choices.

    Agbonlahor -> Suarez
    SWP -> Ramsey

    Adebayor -> Suarez
    SWP -> Modric/VdV
With this transfer, if I get Modric, I’ll be able to bring in Rooney for Suarez the Gameweek after, as long as there’s no price rises..

If we had midfielders 6-7£ getting points like Sturridge & Agbonlahor, everyone would have them. But because they take away our precious forwardspots people are more cautious.

I'm thinking of having a front 7 of
    Nani, Silva, Nasri, VDV
    Sturridge, Agbonlahor, Suarez

Alternatively you throw Mata or Young in there. Seems to give more value than having one/two 12mil strikers there. Opinions?

More value = more points because the money spent is roughly the same. Also allows to have Bosingwa & Kompany in defence.

I've had Silva & Nasri after Nasri's 3 assists and I'm happy to have them both. Why choose only one if both are clearly good options.

Aguero and Rooney are the two highest scoring players in the game so far... Balanced team yes, but doesn't mean more points as such. Points are more important than money.

Nasri good option? He's a rotation risk as he only came on because Aguero was injured. Blessing in disguise.

i dont think u need silva AND nasri both in ur team. silva is enough. without rooney or aguero, ur team could struggle. downgrade ur midfield and upgrade the attack. rooney's got some tough fixs and aguero's a doubt so u might get away with it next week but u will have to get rid of sturridge when torres returns

        Torres replaces Drogba, not Sturridge.

I admit that Rooney or Aguero are going to score more than any of those forwards. But overall it's not so obvious, them and cheap midfield or good midfield and good forwards?

I used to and to some extent still do believe this. The Captain ruins it. A 12mill striker is not good value, but as a captain irreplacable.

Very similar to me. Betting on RvP over Ade, trading a cheap
Mid to your Nani. Betting on fixtures to avoid MU coverage for at least next 4 weeks. The prob Mata to Nani or RvP to Rooney.

Yours is a different risk. Hoping Arsenal stay crap despite fixtures. Both hoping Agero and Rooney doesn't go crazy. Later is not bad I think both coming back from injury which is never easy, even small ones and don't have the easiest fixtures.

              Good luck!

I think FPL should re-assess what purpose bonus points serve. There was a long discussion on page 4 about the new system and someone who is playing FPL for the first time this year asked why we have them at all, and it was such an obvious yet rarely-asked question it got me thinking.

My feeling is that whatever objective system you devise to reward performances it is impossible to reward all the deserving players appropriately - and so a case can reasonably be made for allocating bonues points outside the regular scoring structure. Some fantnsy games adopt quite complex systems involving opta data (like the guardian) and in my experience these systems produce rather confusing and counterintutitive results. The big selling point of FPL is that the system is simple - essentially it's goals, assists, cleanies and cards with some extra stuff around penalties. How then does such a game reward defensive midfielders or the Modrics of this world?

The old system seemed to have some degree of success with this but it was attended by wild inconsistency, clear favouritism, and an annoying habit of awarding goojbaps (get-out-of-jail, copyright applebonkers) to players with high ownership who have had an off day, or high value players who do nothing apart from putting away a penalty.

The new system at least brings objectivity and clarity, but does it reward what we want a bonus point system to reward? The system favours goal scorers, but there are already points for goals. What then is the point of the institution?

Largely agree. Thinking about it now, I'd much rather they went back to the old system. Identifying the three best players on the pitch - the point of the bonus system - is easier to do subjectively, than analyzing a collection of data, which inevitably won't be able to tell the whole story.

Only the people behind the subjective bonus points in the past seasons weren't very good at identifying the best three players! As you mention, they had many consistent faults, but those faults are better than the faults in the new system, which basically makes a goal worth 6/7/8 points. And then there's the whole issue of shots on/off target, which is the biggest problem IMO.

I'm sure there's an element of that. They were probably fed up with nerds like sending abusive emails for giving Chadam, and the like, too many bonus points! Now it's based on stats there can be no argument.

Maybe a partial solution would be to subtract from the PPI stats everything that FPL have already rewarded with points under its normal scoring system. It still wouldn't be perfect, and a subjective system would perhaps still be better, but it would at least remove the element of getting rewarded twice for the same thing.

          Great posts, both of you.

I really though that on the whole the old bonus system worked well, and also that it added another dimension to the game by actually trying to reward players who did not get on the assist/scoresheet but still made a big contribution to his team.

It could be frustrating for sure, but it was also a fun part to try and predict which players would get enough bonus points to be good value buys and see if it worked out.

One of the best posts i've read in a while. It might be only allocating one 3 point bonus to a player who did not get an assist goal in a game but did have the most influence out of the non points scorers.

I guess what I'm saying is that if you're going to use PPI to award points, why not use it to award all the points? If a player gets points for a goal and then points from PPI for that goal - they're getting rewarded twice for the same stat. To me that runs against the purpose of introducing bonus points, which is to reward what FPL's scoring system doesn't reward.

Excellent post. Like the idea of just taking out the PPI for goals etc. Still leaves the problem of shots off target and so on though. I always thought the old syatem was fine as it was.

I think it's impossible to get right unless it has a context.
A strike from 50 yards hitting the post had no right to be even close, is the same as a player missing an open goal. Both get penalised massively.

I agree....it should carry only a minimal reduction or none at all. The ICT stats from what I can gather consider shots on goal (on or off target) as a good thing, that the player is threatening. The new bonus people consider it high treason.

Take Rooney this week. Now I'm not saying he was the best player on the pitch... but he is pretty muc at the top of the FFS's guide to who was the most influential, creative and threatening player. Yet in FPL world he is dirt because he took a few shots that missed. I saw all those efforts on goal on MOTD and thought, nice one Wayne...you're staying in my team.

        Well said +1
Simple fix for next season for me. Make it more like the ICT, lower weights for assists and goals
Treat them the same as key passes and shots on target
Remove penalties for shots off target. Just wieght them lower than shots on target but still have them contribute as over all shots.

Tuning is required of any formula driven approach. I think this system is better than what we had before it just needs a bit of tuning

Guys - at the moment I have these three.

Arteta, Welbeck, Aguero - 0 in the bank

I was thinking that the following moves are prob the right ones to make.

    Welback>Sturridge

    Arteta> Ramsey

    Aguero>RVP

Firstly - thoghts on the moves?

Secondly what order? I cant do Aguero to RVP without one of the others first so do I take a 4pt hit and do two at once, or do I do one of Ramsey/Sturridge and then one a week after that?

    Any ideas?

Hell no. Keep Silva. Nasri AND Silva maybe, Nasri over Silva no way.

just stick. One of silva, Nasri, Dzeko, Ballo, Ageuro will score big almost every Man City match. Whichever you choose, sod's law will dictate the other will be the one.

Just stick with one. Silva is actually better as he plays more often and is a more regular scorer. His regular 5-10pts will even out over the season to make him a very good season keeper. Nasri will get the occasional mega haul, but some week's won't play or just get 2pts.

I'm probably going to sell him for Ramsey this week and upgrade Dzeko to Aguero with the cash....
