I’m doubling up on four teams again this weekend, with Man United’s home clash against West Brom looking an obvious source of defensive returns.

Liverpool’s improved form under Jurgen Klopp has persuaded me to invest at both ends of the pitch, whilst I’m also backing free-scoring Leicester and Man City to bring in the points against Watford and Aston Villa respectively.

If you are unfamiliar with FantasyBet, it is particularly accessible for those who play Fantasy Premier League, as it uses the same initial player prices and has a similar scoring system.

MY TEAM:

This is the team I will play in the freeroll:

GK: David De Gea (5.5m)
DEF: Chris Smalling (6m)
DEF: Alberto Moreno (5m)
DEF: Jeffrey Schlupp (5m)
MID: Kevin De Bruyne (10m)
MID: Sadio Mane (8m)
MID: Ross Barkley (6.5m)
MID: Riyad Mahrez (5.5m)
FOR: Wilfried Bony (8.5m)
FOR: Olivier Giroud (9m)
FOR: Christian Benteke (8.5m)

KEY PICKS

David De Gea: A double or even a triple up of Louis van Gaal’s defensive assets looks a viable option as United seek a fourth consecutive shut-out at home to West Brom. Although Matteo Darmian is suspended after picking up five yellows, the likes of Marcos Rojo or Phil Jones are also worth considering alongside Chris Smalling, bearing in mind that the hosts have conceded just a single goal in front of their own fans.

Alberto Moreno: Jurgen Klopp’s penchant for attacking full-backs brings the Spaniard onto my weekend radar. Since the new manager’s installation, Moreno has fired more attempts on goal than any defender and with visitors Crystal Palace scoring just once in the previous three, the left-back could be poised for points at both ends of the pitch.

Riyad Mahrez: The Leicester winger was avoided by many last week but is now the highest scoring player in the game after serving up a 15-point haul away to West Brom. Six double-figure hauls in nine starts, for an outlay of just 5.5m, make Mahrez a must-have as the Foxes welcome Watford to the King Power.

Olivier Giroud: With Theo Walcott still absent, the consistent Giroud is set to lead the line once again for Sunday’s north London derby. Despite limited minutes, the Frenchman has scored in five of the last seven league matches and continued his fine form in midweek by netting away to Bayern Munich.

THIS WEEK’S GAME PICKS:

This week FantasyBet has set up a special game for the Super Sunday matches, it’s a £5.50 entry game with a £400 guaranteed pot.

FantasyBet has changed their biggest game slightly, and renamed it The Grand Saturday. The game only spans Saturday’s matches, and you can compete for a £1000 guaranteed prize pool on a £5.50 buy in.

As always, the best place to start if you’re new to FantasyBet is the weekly freeroll, where you set up a weekly team and compete for £100 for free.

LAST WEEK

A 32nd place finish with 57 points in the Grand Weekend was enough to bring in a £9.00 return – I went with Kevin de Bruyne as captain, who let many sides down with only five points against Norwich. LArsenal topped the big pot with the likes of Romelu Lukaku (14 points), Riyad Mahrez (15 points) and Laurent Koscielny (15 points) all helping to bring in over £200. I had mid-table finishes elsewhere for another £1.10 of winnings to leave me in a small profit once again on £101.31.

For the inaugural Community Champion head-to-head, I entered the Scout Picks up against S Kuqi, who prevailed by 68 points to 65. I correctly captained Romelu Lukaku for 28 points but S Kuqi jumped ahead on Monday night with Harry Kane (seven points) and Danny Rose (11 points) winning him an entry to the ‘Big Weekly’ game.

THIS WEEK’S STAKE

I will enter the Grand Weekend and £100 freeroll mentioned in the Game Picks above, and as usual the FFScout Picks League this week.

I may enter the Super Sunday game depending on how I get on with the Saturday fixtures. The £1.10 Sunday Budget game looks good value so a team goes into that, for a total stake of £7.70 so far.

In addition, I’ll be going up against Prophet, the Community champion in this week’s Scout Picks. He will be taking me on in a specially set up head-to-head game for a chance to win free entry into a £500 Guaranteed ‘Big Weekly’ game worth £22. Also the Community Champion who beats the Scout Picks by the highest margin every month will win a free entry into the £600 guaranteed ‘Boss’ game worth £55.

FFSCOUT PICKS LEAGUE

Lassieham won the FFScout league last week with 77 points. Ryan Bertrand stood out with 11 points in defence, while Yaya Toure (nine points) and Harry Kane as captain (14 points) helped clinch first prize. The Scout Picks ended up in 30th with 55 points after I also captained Kevin de Bruyne here.

Once again, FantasyBet have provided a £100 pot for the FFScout Picks League, with a £1.10 stake for entry. I will enter our Scout Picks as closely as possible, given a 15-man squad is required with the 100m budget and a captain also needs to be selected. Feel free to go up against them this week and pick your own squad on FantasyBet.

Defence is a little weak. Bellerin is injured, I would play Nyom. AOA also not really an option.

But overall, I think you're ready.

      How about my team?

      Myhill (McCarthy)
Janmaat - Sagna - Evans (Bellerin - Martin)
Sanchez -Yaya - Payet - Ayew - Payet
      Kane - Pelle - Gomis

I want to transfer out a GK or defence for DDG or one of Smalling / Moreno or play AOA. I don't know who to bench, but AOA feels like the easy way out. I need to improve my defence for the coming weeks and double WBA against Man United is nonsense.

      1. Alittude
        • 10 Years
        10 years, 2 months ago

        you'd play nyom over alderwield?

For you what are your plans for when aguero comes back? Are you still going to have 5 premium mids?

maybe do evans to smalling if you're worrie abou double wba.

        1. Daaf
          • 10 Years
          10 years, 2 months ago

Yeah, Watford have been doing allright the last couple of games. But it's a 50/50 really, they will most likely both concede but I would go for Nyom. Leicster have to stop sometime, and Watford are decent away from home.

Aguero is a wait and see for me. I doubt he will be on fire right away, GW 15 Stoke away looks like a good entry point for him and with the quality City they might share the goals around making him less important. He is essential for captain games versus relegation candidates but Southmapton and Liverpool not so much. I will most likely ship out Yaya because he will lose penalty duties, so I could go all sorts of ways. I do want 5 playable midfielders, but I wouldn't consider Ayew and Mahrez's pricetags premium.

I would like to keep Evans, transfering Martin out seems more logical. I like to have options, and Martin isn't one. I am tempted to get De Gea and Moreno, Smalling is a little bit too expensive. He might be worth the difference between him and DDG, or Rojo for that matter, but i wouldn't want to invest too much in my defence.

good points man, im wondering if i made the wrong move getting smalling in, might downgrade to moreno and get de gea in eventually.

good bet on upgrading martin, he seems to be done as an option.

a lot of people with with Butland/Ruddy rotation seem to be upgrading one or the other to DDG.
I'm thinking play Butland this week then downgrade Ruddy to Hennessey next week which seems to give me a resonable rotation until Stoke's fixtures pick up and puts another 0.4itb to upgrade a defender.
    thoughts??

Hi guys need your help as I used my AOA last week and so stuck on who to bench!!

    Sanchez (spurs H)
    Mahrez (Watford H)
    KDB ( Villa A)
    Mane ( Sunderland A)
    Payet ( Everton H)

    Pelle ( Sunderland A)
    Lukaku ( W ham A)
    Vardy ( Watford H)

Just have no idea- thinking I have pelle so possible can do without mane, but sunderland are so poor....

          Read this -

Time to take on the topical debate in a straightforward, no nonsense, Jefferson Montero way.

As we mentioned above, Branislav Ivanović is the all-around wing back on the right side in Chelsea's set up. His aerial dominance makes him a weapon on both attacking and defensive set pieces (for his heading more than his grappling talents though) as well as in open play, when Courtois/Begović knock it long or when the opponents decide to switch play.

With Willian vacating the right flank to play the ball in central areas as a 3rd central midfielder, that also leaves the right side very exposed in transition. In case the opponent has time and space to pick up a pass in Ivanović's wing, Chelsea used to deal with those situations with either Willian doing another superhuman sprint to cut the pass off, or at times Cesc Fàbregas helping Ivanović and Willian to box the opposition's winger (and his overlapping full back).

Defence is about defensive overload before thinking about getting stuck in a challenge. Only when the closing down/cover support shape is set around the holder of the ball can a defender be proactive and try to win the ball back. Mourinho, like many other managers nowadays, doesn't encourage centre backs to vacate space centrally to support full backs. It's the central midfielders' job to help the full back to deal with wingers.

This, is not happening right now at Chelsea. Cesc Fàbregas is nowhere to be seen to cover the inside of the field when Ivanović is isolated against Montero, Bolasie, Naismith or Brahimi.

Let's also settle on something that many people tend not to take into account. Full backs should never defend 1v1 against elite wingers. Elite wingers are elite wingers because they can succeed more often than not at beating their man. A full back losing a "1v1" (the very restricted portion of space and time which can be regarded as a 1v1) happens all the time, but with proper cover support and midfielders properly cutting off passing lanes, the winger is generally doomed to give the ball away shortly after.

The situation that is very wrong with Ivanović right now is that he has to deal with elite wingers on his own and has no support whatsoever around him. He is the last one to blame, for failing to repeatedly accomplish the feat of winning the ball back when backpedalling against a Premier League winger who had space to gather pace to take on him.

This probably explains why a two-time Champions League and 8 times League winning manager has maintained his trust in him despite worldwide Twitter backlash.

I still think he's a liability at RB. Until Jose changes it up and plays Azpi at RB with Baba at LB, these problems will continue. I'd like to see Ivanovic played at CB with Zouma/Terry/Cahill for a change.

Countless benching dilemmas, captaincy wins and fails, injury heartache, and 14 transfers later..... My current team has the exact same score as my GW1 team. Why do I bother?

    Bench one

    A) Cresswell

    B) Naughton

    C) Ayew and save AOA

    Elliot

    Kolarov // Cresswell or Naughton

    Sanchez // Payet // Mahrez // KDB // Ayew

    Pelle // Vardy // Lukaku

    McCarthy - Cresswell/Naughton - Nyon - Alderweireld

I don't think Naughton or Cresswell have a good chance of a clean sheet. If you're keen to capitalise on the luxury of having 8 good attacking players while money is no problem, you could play AOA. Other option is to save it to get you out of a a hole at some point when your defenders are all crooked.

I reckon I'd go for it if I was you. Bench Cresswell.

    A. De Gea and Rojo (double up man utd defence)
    B. De Gea and Moreno (avoid doubling in defence)

I went Moreno over Rojo with no other United cover for two reasons. More nailed on & cheaper, allows me to bank some money for Aguero.

Janmaat. You play him for his attacking stats & he's playing the worst defence in the PL.

    Opinion guys

    1FT, 2,2m in the bank

    Myhill
    Nyom, VVD, Kola
    Alexis, Payet, KDB, Mahrez
    Vardy, Pelle, Trolkaku

    Sub: Gomes, Westwood, Dawson, Souare

    Any changes in lineup?

Do I need a change or just save the FT and make a plan to bring Aguero?

Not keen to change the def, coz can't see many cleanies this GW.....

Is it worth just saving the FT? Can't see any glaring problems?

    Butland
Kolarov - Azpilicueta - Van Dijk
    Sanchez - KDB (C) - Mahrez (vc) - Mané - Payet
    Pellè - Vardy

    Rudd - Ighalo - Huth - Francis [ 1FT + 0.9m ITB]
