Georginio Wijnaldum bags a goal and assist as Newcastle grab a much-needed win at home to Liverpool. Jurgen Klopp makes six changes for the second successive outing as the Reds struggle to impress at St James’ Park.

Wijnaldum Steers Magpies to Vital Victory

Having recorded heavy defeats in the previous two Gameweeks, Newcastle United broke that pattern with a determined 2-0 win over Liverpool. Georginio Wijnaldum earned the assist for the Magpies’ opener when his shot deflected in off Martin Skrtel, before chipping Simon Mignolet in the dying embers to double the hosts’ advantage. Moussa Sissoko teed up the Dutchman at the last to bag his fifth assist of the campaign.

Courtesy of seven goals – all of which have been scored on home turf – and three assists, Wijnaldum currently ranks third among all midfielders for total score (84). The Netherlands international – who’s contributed to ten of Newcastle’s 16 strikes – is certainly a viable differential at the 6.9 mark, but prospective investors will be looking for the Tynesiders to display more attacking consistency, given that they tallied two goals in five outings prior to this Gameweek. Regardless, Wijnaldum’s penchant for netting at home is bound to attract attention from Gameweek 17 when Steve McClaren’s men embark on a run of four matches in six (AVL, EVE, wba, ars, MUN, WHU) at St James’ Park.

Despite shipping eight goals across their last three matches, Steve McClaren’s troops now boast three clean sheets in five outings. As such, Rob Elliot (4.0) represents a decent option for those managers who are looking to cut costs at the back ahead of those clashes with Villa and West Brom.

Klopp Momentum Curtailed at St James’

The Reds fell to their first defeat in five road ties, managing just one shot on target throughout the encounter. Philippe Coutinho missed out with a hamstring strain and was conspicuous by his absence, with Liverpool struggling to carve out clear-cut shooting opportunities – as evidenced by the fact they were one of just three teams (the others being Norwich City and Manchester City) that failed to register a single big chance in Gameweek 15. Having played in midweek, Daniel Sturridge was only deemed fit enough for a cameo role just beyond the hour mark, as Jurgen Klopp made six changes from the side that won 6-1 at Southampton.

Alberto Moreno’s 5% ownership were left disgruntled when his equaliser was wrongly adjudged to be offside. Nonetheless, the Spaniard’s impressive foray forward did serve to highlight his rich potential for attacking returns. On that note, no defender has amassed more key passes (25) than Moreno this term, which bodes well for Sturridge’s full return to the starting XI. As for Liverpool’s clean-sheet prospects in near future, their next five fixtures (WBA, wat, LEI, sun, whu) could be fruitful in that respect.

Not comfortable with that amount of money on a defender so thinking Darmian instead for United coverage?

I was frustrated that he started with Benteke and got subbed off with him too - there's clearly minimal understanding between the pair. I'm going to see how WBA goes next week, in the hope that he has Coutinho and Sturidge with him as opposed to Ibe and Benteke.

    A bit undecided regarding defense.
Have Bellerin and VVD, whom are not convincing as of late, but will stick with them and ship Naughton with a FT this week, but:
    - Not too convinced by Spurs def. Offensive returns, but 2 CS in last 9
    - Moreno/Liverpool - Again, not a good prospect for CS

What options are there out there really?

So if a player hits the post and the ball bounces and hits the goalkeeper and goes in .Is it a assist ?
Pole is considered off target right ?

Think woodwork is counted as an assist

I think it's dependent if the rebound off the post would have gone in without the GK interference

If it would've gone in without keeper interference then it would stand as a goal surely

number 3 defender - noticed him during his match at the weekend actually.

We think he is nailed? If so, could be an interesting differential. Reasonable price as well.

    Scout picks / accountability.
I think it would make an interesting addition to this site if the scout picks cumulative score was published each week. It would make a nice gauge of the contributors foresight.

The theoretical ranking could be posted also.
I'm not sure how squad value would be incorporated but it would be nice to see how much thw weekly selection costs.

If captaincy and vice captaincy were allocated this would effectively show what kind of rank could be obtained with a wildcard every week.

It's possible something like this already exists and I've just missed it as I don't read too much of the site content, but I do like looking at the pictures.

The Scout Picks have been very disappointing this season.

Far less successful than last season, and they keep losing to our Community Champion.

Are they trying to encourage the Community by letting our Champions beat them?

Or do they perhaps have fewer of the top scouts contributing to the selection?

Perhaps they ought to let Andy pick them!

What would you do with this team ?. I've got 11.1m ITB, but the teams rackig up the points (82 last week and 66 this with my captain to come (Lukaku)

    Myhill
    Toby, Moreno, Souare
    kdb, Ozil, Mahrez, Mane
    Lukaku, Vardy, Ighalo

Butland, S.Davis, Cathcath, Prodl (will bring in Kompany when fit)

    11.1 ITB, 2FT's

Is Mane to Wijnaldam, leaving 12.0m ITB crazy ?.
