Riyad Mahrez bags a goal and assist as Leicester see off Chelsea at the King Power. Jamie Vardy nets his fifteenth goal of the season but is now just one yellow card short of a single-match ban. Eden Hazard limps off for the champions as Loic Remy emerges from the bench to notch a consolation.

Mahrez and Vardy Deliver Again

Leicester City returned to the summit of the Premier League by virtue of a 2-1 home win against Chelsea. To nobody’s surprise, Jamie Vardy and Riyad Mahrez were the architects of the Blues’ downfall: the pair combined for Vardy’s opener, before Mahrez curled in a sumptuous strike from an acute angle to double the hosts’ advantage. Marc Albrighton notched his second assist in as many outings and seventh of the campaign to reaffirm his budget potential. The 4.9-priced midfielder ranks joint-third for assists (seven) this term and boasts seven more points than any of his counterparts priced 5.0 or below.

There were fears that the Foxes’ momentum would be stymied once they embarked on a difficult run from Gameweek 14, yet Claudio Ranieri’s troops have dispelled that fear in emphatic fashion. As such, while their upcoming trio of fixtures (eve, liv, MCI) look tough on paper, it would take a brave man to bet against Leicester prolonging their record of scoring in every league fixture – particularly when Mahrez (18) and Vardy (17) are leading the field with regards to goal involvement.

The Foxes will be without Robert Huth for their trip to Goodison, though – the German fell off the Suspension Tightrope after earning his fifth caution of the campaign. Vardy’s booking last night took him to four yellows for the season – he must avoid incurring the referees’ wrath in the next three Gameweeks or will face a one-match ban.

Remy Strike Not Enough for Chelsea

Chelsea plummeted further into the abyss with their fifth defeat in seven outings. To illustrate the extent of their current malaise, the Blues have posted as many losses this term (nine) as in the past two combined. Aside from charting joint-second-bottom for home defeats (four), Chelsea have chalked up a solitary victory on their travels, which will be music to the ears of Manchester United and Crystal Palace ahead of upcoming visits from the champions.

Looking at Chelsea’s Fantasy output at the King Power Stadium, Loic Remy entered the fray at the 65-minute mark and went on to net a consolation goal (his first of the campaign) 12 minutes later by way of Pedro’s assist. The latter came on in the 31st minute for Eden Hazard, whose decision to remove himself from the proceeding has his manager worried:

“I don’t know what is wrong. The only thing I know is in 10 seconds he made the decision himself. It must be a serious injury because he just left the pitch and just made the decision not to go in. His first reaction was ‘I can’t’ and I was going to make the change. His second reaction was ‘I want to try,’ and when he goes on the pitch, first step he immediately says ‘I can’t do it.’ It was him in a few seconds who had three different perspectives, but clearly he couldn’t do it.”

The Londoners now gear up for back-to-back home ties (SUN, WAT), but one would be hard pressed to make a cogent case for any of their attacking assets. With four clean sheets in the last six in all competitions, though, the likes of Kurt Zouma (5.4) could still prove a viable option at the back.

    @Balders,

in the FPL DataScraping sheet, is it possible somewhere to add a cell in the transfer history cell to find out the price that the transfer happened for? i.e. using the timestamp to also scrap the outgoing and incoming prices? #asking42much

Looks good to me, I don't think two Arsenal attackers is too much.

As for Barkley, he was someone I actually looked at stats for before his 2nd haul because he's never struck me as someone who gets in the box much. Unless I was reading the stats wrong that didn't seem to have changed. Obviously did well in the points but seems to be regressing again now.

Not sure if new stats might tell a different story

    Myhill - McCarthy
    Bellerin - Alderweireld - VvD - Nyom - Francis
    Ozil - KdB - Mahrez - Mane - Gosling
    Vardy - Lukaku - Kane

    £4.6 itb

Still looking for that shrewd differential - Ivanovic failed to qualify for that last night I think. But this GW maybe the sensible thing to do is just Francis -> Ward/Wollscheid, and then wait to evaluate Aguero and Sanchez? Or should I just do Kane -> Ighalo?
    Any good suggestions most welcome!

ha damn you've been trolled beyond compare 🙂

I like your team - it's just a bit of a shame you appear to have been late to the party on a lot of these guys.

I'd say your players OUT should be VVD (Southampton defence looking rickety) and Mane, rather than focusing on Kane (who will score again) and Francis (he'll "do" as a fifth defender - rememebr you only get points from 11 men on the field, so you might as well leave him rotting in 3rd sub, he's not your concern).

I'd say your next "thing" is probably a misfiring Mane out - might be a good differential to bring in Wijnaldum for the next 2 gameweeks? Or maybe looking at Ramsey or City players for their good upcoming fixtures run (but probably after this gw)

If you can, I'd leave it this week (your team isn't actually that bad - try a differential captain like Mahrez if you're feeling lucky, but Lukaku if you want to just regain some confidence!) and then do a double next week w/ Mane out for Yaya/Silva and VVD out for Koscielny?

      That's my advice, anyway 🙂

yup, late to the party pretty much sums it up. Seems I've lost touch with timing - been trying "clever" punts instead of just looking at the form ticker.

Was actually debating whether to ship VvD or Francis for a good nailed-on defender like eg.g War or Wolly over Christmas. But of course that won't propel anyone up the rankings. Then Mane -> Ramsey or Silva will be considered GW. Doubling Arsenal defence could be good as well, but would prevent Ramsey.

Already gopt armband on Mahrez! Thanks for your good suggestions!

    Butland
    Dann - Dawson - Rose
    Ozil - Kdb - Mahrez - Coutinho - Wijnaldum
    Lukaku - Ighalo

Bench: Moreno - Bellerin - Kane

I m with Irish Madridista on benching Kane, but is the order of benching defenders ok?

Wow, you have 5 defenders from the same exact teams as me!

I'm playing Dann, Rose and Moreno with Evans and Monreal on the bench personally.

Which Sanchez hovering in the background, will Ramsey continue to play in the same position. Or does that depend on Cazorla's return

    Thoughts?

A: Muniesa ---> Dann / Stoke defender (Bench Monreal)
    B: Save. Play Monreal

You need to get Muniesa outta there so him > Wollschied if you need the cash. If not, Dann is a slightly better option.

    Moreno Kola Evans (Nyom, VVD)
    Wij Mahrez Ozil KdB (Firmino)
    Kane Lukaku Ighalo

    1FT, 1.2 ITB

Depends if you trust WBA that much cos I think Bournemouth will score. Go for it if you're definitely sure City will score.

City havent scored many away from home recently. It makes sense to split the options. Playing Cech and Dawson makes the most sense because Dawson is a significant set piece threat.

That's a really hard one. Not sure I'll get either this week so I can let Sanchez get back on scratch. However next week I'd go Sanchez

He does look back a great option in that central position. I'm just wondering whether sanchez will come back firing now that he's had a rest.

Sanchez will score more points than Ramsey long term, but money is always an object. If Aguero comes back to fitness then he will become essential again, purely because he is capable of matching several Vardy weeks in one City thrashing.

Same can be said about Sanchez too (that he can be explosive) & he is flat 2m cheaper than Aguero.
