Riyad Mahrez bags a goal and assist as Leicester see off Chelsea at the King Power. Jamie Vardy nets his fifteenth goal of the season but is now just one yellow card short of a single-match ban. Eden Hazard limps off for the champions as Loic Remy emerges from the bench to notch a consolation.

Mahrez and Vardy Deliver Again

Leicester City returned to the summit of the Premier League by virtue of a 2-1 home win against Chelsea. To nobody’s surprise, Jamie Vardy and Riyad Mahrez were the architects of the Blues’ downfall: the pair combined for Vardy’s opener, before Mahrez curled in a sumptuous strike from an acute angle to double the hosts’ advantage. Marc Albrighton notched his second assist in as many outings and seventh of the campaign to reaffirm his budget potential. The 4.9-priced midfielder ranks joint-third for assists (seven) this term and boasts seven more points than any of his counterparts priced 5.0 or below.

There were fears that the Foxes’ momentum would be stymied once they embarked on a difficult run from Gameweek 14, yet Claudio Ranieri’s troops have dispelled that fear in emphatic fashion. As such, while their upcoming trio of fixtures (eve, liv, MCI) look tough on paper, it would take a brave man to bet against Leicester prolonging their record of scoring in every league fixture – particularly when Mahrez (18) and Vardy (17) are leading the field with regards to goal involvement.

The Foxes will be without Robert Huth for their trip to Goodison, though – the German fell off the Suspension Tightrope after earning his fifth caution of the campaign. Vardy’s booking last night took him to four yellows for the season – he must avoid incurring the referees’ wrath in the next three Gameweeks or will face a one-match ban.

Remy Strike Not Enough for Chelsea

Chelsea plummeted further into the abyss with their fifth defeat in seven outings. To illustrate the extent of their current malaise, the Blues have posted as many losses this term (nine) as in the past two combined. Aside from charting joint-second-bottom for home defeats (four), Chelsea have chalked up a solitary victory on their travels, which will be music to the ears of Manchester United and Crystal Palace ahead of upcoming visits from the champions.

Looking at Chelsea’s Fantasy output at the King Power Stadium, Loic Remy entered the fray at the 65-minute mark and went on to net a consolation goal (his first of the campaign) 12 minutes later by way of Pedro’s assist. The latter came on in the 31st minute for Eden Hazard, whose decision to remove himself from the proceeding has his manager worried:

“I don’t know what is wrong. The only thing I know is in 10 seconds he made the decision himself. It must be a serious injury because he just left the pitch and just made the decision not to go in. His first reaction was ‘I can’t’ and I was going to make the change. His second reaction was ‘I want to try,’ and when he goes on the pitch, first step he immediately says ‘I can’t do it.’ It was him in a few seconds who had three different perspectives, but clearly he couldn’t do it.”

The Londoners now gear up for back-to-back home ties (SUN, WAT), but one would be hard pressed to make a cogent case for any of their attacking assets. With four clean sheets in the last six in all competitions, though, the likes of Kurt Zouma (5.4) could still prove a viable option at the back.

Lamela seems to be pretty ignored on here.. Under £7m and had 2 very good chances v Newcastle and also a hatrick in EL, if I cheapen Eriksen to him in a couple of weeks Sanchez and/or Aguero could both slot in my team easily, it also allows me to track his form and see if its worth doing.

Just wanna know what everyone else thinks??

Why take a player clearly vulnerable to rotation (Son and Chadli) when there are are better sub 7 options? (Bolassie, Deulofeu, Cabaye etc)

I think Spurs need to play Son, Eriksen and Lamela behind Kane and then we will see some improved returns. Probably time to give Alli a rest.

Their average position has been very similar the last couple of weeks and I think they are getting in each others way a bit. If Son was playing out wide then I think it would help stretch the play and also help Eriksen and Kane.

I think we may be guilty of overthinking captaincy and benching decisions. Looking at my own team from just this week, if I had captained Mahrez (the best and most in-form player in the league) over Kane and played Ake instead of Rose my rank would now be 2.2k instead of 6.8k.

I think these 'small' decisions are having a massive impact

Be happy with your current rank!

Seriously though, if I'd made no transfer at all, and played the most in form players, I'd have been 17 points better off this week. Just goes to show really.

        • 10 Years

I'm not complaining about my rank 🙂

Just pointing out that maybe it's not people making the wrong transfers, rather making the wrong decisions within their own squads that is costing them. Maybe these are the kinds of things that 'casuals' don't get wrong because they don't overthink them

        1. John t penguin
          • 11 Years

          this is always the case
two things that I always ignore when I promised I would use them
1 you don't always have to use a transfer
2 if you cant decide what to do you probably don't need to do anything

Also it would make no sense to bench Rose when he has NEW - there's a lot of decisions that you really can't get right even if you had them in front of you again.

After last week's hat-trick I put the captaincy on Mahrez, then I considered the exact logic that you pointed out and changed it to Kane. If I had gone 'casual' then it would still be on Mahrez. I'm just saying that we might be guilty of this type of overthink

I think you're applying too much hindsight, Mahrez was never an obvious choice and very very few captained him, even casuals.

            • 10 Years
            10 years, 3 days ago

Yes, maybe I am guilty of a bit of hindsight but is there a case to be made for rotating our squads costing us too many points. Doesn't having a Westwood/Steven Taylor in your squad protect you from benching the wrong player?

              • 15 Years
              10 years, 3 days ago

Yup it does, but that's like saying having a suspended / injured player protects you from benching the wrong player..

The only reason I'd get a westwood-like player in is if I badly needed the funds for the perfect front 7..

if you had no care for rank then there is better chance you would captain mahrez
so many people saying kane on here and high ownership can influence you.
Though there will also be occasions when you do follow that logic and it stops you losing points to the masses, its just we don't acknowledge that as much

Yeah I feel DDG is a wasted spot given butland form. Thankfully played Butland over DDG the weekend just gone.

How much do we expect Kane to drop over the next week or two?

I have 0.3 left after doing him to Kun at the moment, I should be safe to hold off till next friday.

Think he'll drop 0.2 by the start of next GW and then depends on Kun's fitness and Kane's performance vs sot.

Ryan Shawcross has played 496 minutes this season and has not conceded a single goal yet.

So so important for Stoke's defence!

Agreed he's a better option, but Sanchez and Kun back soon...need to start saving some cash somewhere.

        Current defence is:

        Bellerin - Kolarov - Bertrand - Rojo - Nyom

McAuley probably the best option if not going with Jevans. Goal threat like Dawson (McAuley has scored at elast 2 goals in every epl season he has played a near full term, Dawson has only done this once) but with a lot more bonus potential (and cheaper)

Tbf Fabregas could thrive in an LVG system. The team is set up to not concede right from the front man and therefore he would be able to do his thing without overly worrying about tracking back and defending all the time.

You can't help the feeling that he is past it now though as with a lot of modern footballers the hunger seems to go once they have "made it" with a couple of big contracts.

Aguero -> Kane rather than Haz -> Ramsey last week is seriously looking like one of my biggest mistakes of the year (and there have been lots).

    Cost me:
-Lukaku over Kane (C) points (7 points)
    -Ramsey over Haz (10 points)
    -Stanislas over Kane (5 points)
    -Would still have Aguero

So 22 points, an injured Hazard and no Aguero. FML

        Have Bellerin and Kolarov.

Huth never really keeps clean sheets and I don't like the look of anyone other than WBA or Spurs defence tbh.

DDG in goal so that's Utd covered.

        1. Nespinha
          • 10 Years
          10 years, 3 days ago

Kolarov out, expensive, city's defense are weak atm, and rotation risk

Go for a WBA defender, look at the next games (and Pulis is defense expert, look at palace last year)

  28. Nespinha
    • 10 Years
    10 years, 3 days ago

Why does everyone only mention Dawson in WBA defense? Evans not viable? Olsson not a good option for a budget option?

    1. Ivanov Itch
      • 14 Years
      10 years, 3 days ago

It's probably just a points thing.

Dawson has 20 more so any easy selection for many.

      1. Nespinha
        • 10 Years
        10 years, 3 days ago

Because of his regular play, few goals (this year and the ones before) and 0 bonus points. If we analyze carefully, the others offer more points potential. WBA are not an attacking threat so him playing RB is not that good. That´s why I'm looking at Olsson/Mcauley or even Evans

    2. Piggs Boson
      • 14 Years
      10 years, 3 days ago

Evans is injury prone, Olsson may not be nailed. There's a reason Dawson has the most pts.

Nightmare the last two GWs for obvious reasons..

    DDG Henessey
    VVD Soure Toby Moreno Jones
    KDB Ozil Barkley Wijinaldum Coutinho
    Kane Igahlo Vardy

Losing Mahrez on WC has been pretty lamentable and Kane over Lukaku hasn't helped, that and i just can't pick the right defenders to bench.

Advise welcome, thinking of VVD out and getting away no Lukaku this week but not sure?
