Vincent Kompany and Pablo Zabaleta return to contention as City entertain Sunderland. Chelsea’s Eden Hazard is back in light training, Junior Stanislas and Josh King remain doubts for Bournemouth, whilst Big Sam has concerns in defence after Younes Kaboul is ruled out with a hamstring injury.

Injuries Ease for City

Manuel Pellegrini confirmed that Pablo Zabaleta and Vincent Kompany will return to the matchday squad for Sunderland’s visit on Saturday. The Chilean also cautioned that Sergio Aguero is not yet ready to complete a full match:

“The injury situation is better – we’ll have the complete squad recovered apart from Samir Nasri. Pablo Zabaleta, Fernando and Vincent Kompany have all worked with the squad normally. We’ll see the starting XI on Saturday – after that, especially with David, with Kun, with Vincent, with Pablo – we have to see how they recover between games. I have not decided my team yet. Sergio was ready to play – he needed minutes. Maybe for three or four games he won’t play 90 minutes as he’s coming back from injury but he needs to play.”

The Scout Says: News of Kompany’s imminent return will be music to the ears of managers who’ve recruited from Man City’s defence, given that Pellegrini’s troops have conceded in all eight of the fixtures their talismanic captain has missed. That being said, Bacary Sagna owners will fear rotation now that Zabaleta’s back in the fold and the Sky Blues play three matches in the space of seven days. Pellegrini’s reluctance to afford Aguero 90 minutes against the Wearside outfit should only act as a minor deterrent for prospective investors, considering the Argentina international scored five times in a 65-minute appearance against Newcastle in Gameweek 8. Pitted against the team that ranked top for big chances conceded (12) over the last four Gameweeks, there’s certainly scope for Aguero to make a statement in two days’ time.

King and Stanislas remain concerns

Eddie Howe revealed that the hamstring injuries Joshua King and Junior Stanislas picked up during the last couple of weeks are not serious. Nonetheless, the Bournemouth boss admitted that both are doubts for a home encounter against Crystal Palace on Boxing Day:

“We’ve got no long term injuries from West Brom. Josh just felt a slight niggle in his hamstring so we didn’t want to risk him. Junior was similar really, so we don’t think it’s anything that’s going to keep any player out for weeks. But whether Junior and Josh will make the next few games, we don’t know.”

The Scout Says: Both Cherries recruits have emerged as strong options in the fifth-midfielder bracket in recent matches – over 25,000 Fantasy managers snapped up Stanislas (three goals in four) over the past five Gameweeks, while King (two goals in five) welcomed over 5,000 new owners across the same stretch. Bournemouth’s attack as a whole has blossomed over the last five Gameweeks, placing top for attempts (77), fourth for shots inside the box (46), third for shots on target (29) and joint-second for key passes (58). If neither player makes it, though, it remains to be seen whether Howe’s troops can maintain the momentum that’s seen them win three straight league matches, with Marc Pugh and Glenn Murray likely to be called upon if they are ruled out.

Hazard still doubtful for Blues

Chelsea interim boss Guus Hiddink has confirmed that Eden Hazard returned to training on Wednesday as he steps up his recovery from a hip problem, though the Belgian didn’t complete the full session.

The Scout Says: Although Hazard is still uncertain to feature in Chelsea’s home clash against Watford, Hiddink will be buoyed by the displays of his new side’s attacking midfielders against Sunderland last weekend. Oscar and Pedro grabbed a goal apiece and led the way amongst midfielders for shots (five) and touches in the box (11) respectively last weekend, whilst Willian chipped in with a pair of assists. Indeed, in their first match-up following Jose Mourinho’s decampment, the Londoners played with renewed purpose – ranking joint-top for shots inside the box (11), top for big chances (four) and joint-top for shots on target (seven) among all teams – suggesting that Hiddink may choose to be cautious with Hazard’s fitness ahead of a busy upcoming run of fixtures.

Rose Back for Spurs

Mauricio Pochettino revealed that Danny Rose is fit again after missing Tottenham Hotspur’s win over Southampton due to illness. Ryan Mason also returned to training at the start of the week and will be in contention for Norwich’s visit on Boxing Day:

The Scout Says: With the Christmas period ripe for rotation, there’s certainly no guarantee that the fit-again Rose will start all three festive fixtures at the expense of Ben Davies. Regardless, Toby Alderweireld (two goals and assists) and Eric Dier (three goals and out-of-position potential) have established themselves as the prime routes into a Lilywhites defence that’s conceded the joint-fewest goals (14) throughout the season. Their stock on the Fantasy market only looks set to rise as Tottenham embark on an excellent schedule (NOR, wat, eve, LEI, SUN, cry, nor, WAT) all the way through to Gameweek 25.

Kaboul Sidelined for Sunderland

Sam Allardyce confirmed that Younes Kaboul suffered a hamstring injury during Sunderland’s trip to Chelsea last weekend and will be consigned to the treatment room for a number of weeks

The Scout Says: Kaboul’s injury should see the Black Cats revert to a four-man defence, having deployed five at the back for their last trio of road ties – incidentally, Sam Allardyce stated after last week’s loss at Chelsea that he was considering changes to his side’s set-up. Sunderland shipped 12 goals in their previous quartet of away fixtures and have conceded five more away goals (24) than any team in the league this season. Ally this with the fact that Manchester City rank top for goals (25), attempts (163) and shots on target (64) in home fixtures, and the Wearsiders are in danger of being put to the sword at the Etihad.

Pulis to make changes

Baggies boss Tony Pulis gave Fantasy managers a heads-up by confirming that squad rotation will be in effect as he attempts to navigate the tricky Christmas schedule. Claudio Yacob was in Argentina on the grounds of family bereavement but is back in the mix after returning to England:

“We have two games in three days so we’ll definitely rotate the squad. We will start with players at Swansea which we won’t start with against Newcastle (two days later). We will certainly rotate the side. It’s a chance to see one or two of them start.”

The Scout Says: Yacob’s return to the Baggies’ XI is set to spell the end of Jonny Evans’ brief stint in midfield – Jonas Olsson is the likeliest to drop out of central defence as a consequence, though the Swede could well be in the mix should his manager rotate at the back as he looks to improve a defence that’s been breached in each of the last seven now. Further up the field, suspensions to James McClean and Salomon Rondon afford the likes of Saido Berahino and/or Rickie Lambert the chance to stake a claim for pitch time after both dropped down the pecking order of late.

Usually I do but this week for some reason I can't decide! Gone between Silva, Kane and Mahrez and Lukaku. I'm reluctant to go with Mahrez because I've already backed £40 on Leicester to win - I fear if they lose and Mahrez doesn't get any points then I won't have a very good boxing day!

Hello all! On the train back to Liverpool, just wondering whether I shoud go AOA this week? Would be:

    DDG
    Bellerin/Alde
    KDB/Ozil/Coutinho/Mahrez/Alli
    Kane/Lukaku/Giroud

    Bench: Hennessey/Moreno/Dawson/Nyom

I was tempted to play AOA myself tbh, but If a player gets benched you waste the chip and that's a risk. Anyway, I'm just keeping Coutinho for SUN

I wonder if Dawson is good to go this week though, my plan is to save AOA to hopefully prevent a -4 from injury crisis. Otherwise just seems very random.

      1. Doolittle
        • 13 Years
        10 years, 1 month ago

It's not a great chip, my defence is generally very strong so, bar an injury crisis, I'm not sure when I'd use it.

Agreed but it could guaranteed save you a -4, whereas this is just rolling a 50/50 dice. Its a bad chip and I can see myself going to end of season without using it at all.

    Bench one:

My reasons for Kun (with a little help from Epic):

There are few times in FPL where you get a chance to catch best player in the game as a differential. Add to the fact that when that chance is at home against the worst defence in the league, i will roll the dice.

Patience is a virtue. There's still half a season left to go; if you can keep in touch with the top 10k that's half the work done. There are other places in the squad to find differentials where you can catch them up slowly; as well as being quick to change if the current in-form players start under performing.

When we get to week 30 with 8 games left then is the time to start taking gambles IMO.

That said, a straight swap between the 2 if you can afford it IMO is fine.

Depends if you're putting the armband on them. Most who bring in Kun will (C) which is a big factor.

If I brought him in then yes I would but at the expense of Vardy probably now not Kane who may become either Vardy/Ighalo in time.

However unlike you I sold Kane. I'll experiment with differentials in other areas but selling Vardy will do huge damage if he continues his good form.

I initially was moving Kane, but the Norwich game looks ripe for Arry, you could end up in a break even scenario tho I'd argue Kane is a decent pick over Christmas for nailedonness

Surely if you're asking whether to bench an 11m player against worst defence in the league you should be getting rid? Can only assume you have coverage and that's why you want to bench - but again, more a reason to get rid of KDB for someone cheaper.

Is Mahrez really likely to continue his point scoring run away at Liverpool? I am not so sure, I think I would rather go with Lukaku away at Newcastle. City home to Sunderland would ordinarily make the captain choice a formality, but KDB is underperforming, and Silva/Aguero are not fully fit yet. Such a touch choice this week!

Instead of playing a defender, you will be playing your bench fodder mid who you don't tend to expect many points from.

          Generally speaking.

You will use other 2 chips on a DGW
So if there are 3+ DGWs you can try it
What I wanted to say is there are a lot of cases where people used this chip and their 5th mid blanked and their 3rd def(benched) asisted or got CS
          So you can lose points
Best use of this chip is when you got only 2 playing defenders and you are sure that your 8 attackers will play

Yes, but I'd be hesitant. The other chips are almost certain to get you extra points. All out attack can easily lose you points. Too big a risk for me on a double gameweek. Use it whatever week the fixtures/your squad lend themselves to it. I used mine last week.

      Dreadful piece of graphic design.

Fussy. Too many elements. Bad typographically. And Incredibly, well, dull. Looks like it was done by a junior with no branding/identity design experience whatsoever.

Hi, could someone quickly help me? Don't know where else to ask this.

I'm visiting England just after New Year's and trying to get tickets for Everton Spurs, but all the tickets that are still available (like every single one of them no matter where in the stadium) say "Obstructed View". Does this mean there is like a pillar in the way or something? Or should I ignore that message?

    Thanks a lot.

Yep lots of seats are have pillars in the way at Goodison. Some worse than others.

Ah alright. Will have to hope it's not right in front of me then if we do get them. Thanks again

Park End is non restricted though. Generally they're OK. The only part I'd avoid is the Lower Bullens. It's like watching the game through a letter box.

Park End is sold out already. The ones that still have a few seats together are the Top Balcony and the Upper Gwladys.

Top balcony is the better view (hopefully). I've sat in restricted view in the Upper Gwladys and it was fine. It's just in the corner behind the goal so it's not the best place to see the game. I'd go Top Balcony although it's a bit high up as long as you don't mind that sort of thing.

yes it means a pillar, old fashioned stadiums still have this often. Can be awful or ok depending on site lines.

Please note that due to the age of the East Stand many of the seats within the East Upper and Lower are affected by pillars. Restricted view seats will have either one of the goalmouths obstructed and these tickets will be clearly marked as restricted view at a differential price. Many seats within the East Stand will be affected by pillars without a differential price as the obstruction falls on the playing area and not the goal.

    Kun(c) clear favourite over Kane(c)?
Kane should play 30 minutes more than Aguero, but Norwich are arguably more in form than Sunderland.

    Help?

Kane will play 15 minute more. Not 30.

He will need his rest too.

I'd go Kun over Kane, I think Norwich will provide a lot of resistance.

It's a lottery, Kun might flop or might get a hat trick. Mahrez might get another 2 penalties again.

I'm going for Kane v NOR - but I don't have Kun, so I would have honestly struggled to pick over those two.

If kun is only going to play 60 in next 3 or for tho that's like 90 minutes plus he not on the pitch for

Is that worth 13 mil at this stage? I know its kun tho

I'm torn between the fun captain punt Silva and the safe captain punt Kane. Only thing that is worrying me is minutes, otherwise I would go Silva

If you're not already in the top 10k, what's your plan to get there? Only realistic one involves Kun IMO. Anyone know his ownership in that bracket. Bets are its under 5%
