Chelsea’s Kurt Zouma is sidelined for the season with knee ligament damage. Daniel Sturridge, Philippe Coutinho and Divock Origi are set to return for Liverpool tonight. West Ham’s James Tomkins could be out for up to a month, whilst Seydou Doumbia and Phil Jones improve their fitness with run-outs for Newcastle and Man United reserves respectively.

Zouma ruled out for season

Kurt Zouma suffered damage to his anterior cruciate ligament against Man United on Sunday afternoon and faces around six months in the treatment room, according to a statement released on Chelsea’s website.

The Scout Says: Zouma’s long-term injury affords Gary Cahill the security of starts alongside John Terry. However, it’s hard to see him challenging Cesar Azpilicueta (two goals and assists) and Branislav Ivanovic (one goal, three assists) for investment on the Fantasy market, considering he’s priced 0.4 above the former and has fashioned shots at nearly half the frequency (one every 188 minutes compared to 95.5) of the latter. In terms of the Blues’ defensive prospects as a whole, they’ve recorded four clean sheets in their previous seven outings and will fancy their chances of further shut-outs as they prepare to embark on an agreeable quartet of match-ups (NEW, sou, nor, STO).

Klopp optimistic on trio

Daniel Sturridge, Philippe Coutinho and Divock Origi returned to training last week and are now in contention for Liverpool’s FA Cup Fourth Round replay against West Ham United later tonight. Jurgen Klopp is unwilling to start all three from the offset and is yet to determine how he’ll afford them all pitch time:

“We haven’t decided about the starting line-up. We now have a very important session. [Sturridge] was fit enough to be on the bench. He was impressive in the last session on Friday night, so we thought ‘come on, if there’s a chance for 10 or 15 minutes, we should try it’. We spoke to him and he said he would like to. But then the game had a different story and there was no possibility with the two early changes. Divock and Phil will be in training today too and are in the squad, hopefully, for tomorrow. It’s a little bit complicated because extra time is possible. We have to look at who will start – they can’t all start together, that’s not possible because we know we would have to change three times because the whole game would be too much in this moment. So we have to figure out how we do it best but we will find a solution, for sure.”

The Scout Says: In light of Sturridge and Origi nearing a return to action in the league, Roberto Firmino’s spell as an out-of-position prospect could be coming to an end. Although the Brazil international has amassed five goals in as many starts in the false-nine berth, one would imagine that Klopp will shift him further back to facilitate Sturridge, or even Origi’s deployment as a lone frontman. In such an event, it will be interesting to observe whether Coutinho shoots back onto our radar as a viable mid-priced pick-up. Now pitched 0.2 below Firmino (8.0 to 8.2), the ex-Inter Milan recruit has accrued similar minutes to his compatriot but lays claim to one fewer goal. Although a weekend trip to Villa affords us promise, the Merseysiders’ blank in Gameweek 27 and visit from Manchester City the following Gameweek may well prove enough of a deterrent for most Fantasy managers in the meantime.

Tomkins ruled out for Hammers

Slaven Bilic revealed that James Tomkins is expected to be sidelined for two to four weeks with the calf injury he sustained against Southampton:

“James Tomkins got injured in the Southampton game, he felt it before during the warm up but he said he was OK. At half-time he said he was OK but shortly after that it went, it’s a calf injury. He has a scan this morning, so after that we’ll know more. It’s probably a few weeks if we are lucky, maybe more. It’ll be two to four weeks.”

The Scout Says: In the absence of Tomkins, Bilic has two options at his disposal: a fit-again Joey O’Brien or January signing, Sam Byram. Having already produced two impressive substitute appearances since his switch from Leeds United, Byram is the obvious replacement at right-back ahead of a trip to Norwich City, though O’Brien is likely to get the nod against Liverpool tonight as the former is cup-tied. By virtue of his capacity for attacking returns (one goal, three assists), Aaron Cresswell (5.6) – who ranks third among defenders for key passes (eight) over the last six Gameweeks – represents the choice route into the Hammers’ rearguard before their favourable pair of match-ups against Norwich and Sunderland in the next two, while Winston Reid (4.8) furnishes us with a cheaper alternative.

Doumbia steps up fitness drive

Yet to feature in the league since arriving on loan from Roma, Seydou Doumbia clocked 45 minutes for Newcastle’s U21 outfit in a 2-1 defeat to Stoke City last night as he looks to improve his match sharpness ahead of a weekend trip to Chelsea.

The Scout Says: Following Aleksandar Mitrovic’s return to the scoresheet in the 1-0 win over West Brom last weekend, Doumbia may have to showcase his talents off the bench before claiming the role as the spearhead of Steve McClaren’s favoured 4-2-3-1 set-up. On that note, Mitrovic has displayed more promise beyond his five goals across the previous five Gameweeks, charting joint-fourth for attempts (14) and joint-second for shots on target (10) during that time frame. Looking past the Magpies’ challenging trip to Chelsea and blank in Gameweek 27, they enjoy two league clashes – away to Stoke and home to Bournemouth – that could renew our interest in their attackers; indeed, the Potters’ defence has been hugely generous of late, shipping nine goals in three fixtures.

Jones handed reserves run-out

Phil Jones stepped up his rehabilitation from an ankle injury with a 58-minute run-out for Manchester United’s U21 side as they smashed seven past Norwich City. Fringe players Adnan Januzaj and Guillermo Varela were both forced off with injury during the rout.

Scout Scribbles: Despite facing a bevy of defensive injuries through the first two-thirds of the campaign, Man United have fared remarkably well at the back, conceding the joint-second fewest goals (22) of any team. As the Red Devils’ backline was breached on just two occasions in their last four match-ups, Louis van Gaal will be loath to tinker with it too much. The Dutchman does have a tendency to ease players back into the first-team frame following injury but, once up to full fitness, there’s every chance that Jones’ return to the squad could see Daley Blind shifting over to left-back, displacing budget prospect Cameron Borthwick-Jackson (4.0) as a result. The latter has been named in the United XI in each of the last three Gameweeks following an injury to Ashley Young and, as one of the cheapest current starting defenders around, is the fourth most transferred in defender this week, with 13,000 FPL managers clambering on board the bandwagon. Borthwick-Jackson should keep his place this weekend against a Sunderland team that ranks joint-second-bottom for goals in home matches (13) but with Jones close to a recall now, question marks are growing over the youngster’s chances of retaining his place over the long haul.

Oddly I might for GWK 27. Team in good shape and looking to go into GWK 27 with two frees and - Aguero and Lukaku to Costa and Vardy looks mighty tempting.

Are players on here too easily swayed by the crowd. Lukaku and Ozil out didn't look like good moves at all to be honest but the sheer volume of numbers doing it meant a lot of people were being swept along. Can this also explain why so many are complaining that this season has been so bad while previous seasons haven't - because they essentially make collective decisions.

Sometimes think having x2 FTs in the bank can be dangerous.

Had the x2 FTs lined up for the DGW which I didn't need in the end.

Made me tinker last week when if I'd of left Lukaku and Ozil in I'd of had a much better gameweek.

Ruth_NJ made an interesting point at the beginning of the season:

Following the crowd doesn't mean you'll do well - it just means you'll score the same as the rest of the crowd.

Last season was a successful one for the crowd - this one less so.

The template isn't a fixed 11 or 15 players with the same captains and same players benched, and it changes continuously.

So don't worry about it - just pick the best players (except towards the end of the season, when you may or may not need to take risks to differentiate your team from your closest rivals).

You may get lucky with an inspired differential, but many differentials which are just different for the sake of being different rather than because you consider them to be superior will have the opposite effect.

I guess related to the other questions, but what formations will we be rocking in GW27?

For example, I kept Lukaku and I'm glad I did, he'll be my captain this week vs. WBA and he has Villa after the blank so it doesn't seem worth selling him.

This'll mean I have a 4-5-1 going on, or maybe even a 5-4-1 if Borthwick- stays in the United team

Depends on the number of matches, really. If there's only 2 games playing, 5 or 6 is enough - but if there's 5 games on, you'll want a full complement of 11.

With Arsenal V Leicester and Man City V Spurs

Many of us have defenders and forwards from all 4 teams

Is now the ideal time to play AOA?

How is Sanchez comparing to Ozil? Those who swapped Sanchez for Ozil should they hold him, or go straight back to Ozil, or double up is a solution?

Is it time for a change in tactics?

I've been doing this year what I did last year when I finished 512 OR; Picking a strong side but with a sprinkling of differentials. I also usually keep an eye on my ML rivals and try and avoid players they have.

However, this season it's a tactic that has seen me drop to 600k at this point....

Do we need to start ignoring players around us and start picking the strongest 11 on a week by week basis? Do we need to stick with the tried a tested players this season like Mahrez, Ozil. as I sold both hoping for a change in luck and it's badly backfired

templates seem to relate pretty much to the front 8.
is there a right way to deal with the defence when the best regular (available) PPG defender is kos @4.7pts.?
More than other areas the defence & clean sheet points seem far more inconsistent this season.
if everyone has a template front 8 then keeper & defence is where potential gains should be on offer.

With the better fixtures for liverpool arriving, what will be the impact on their attack / midfield with sturridge, origi and coutinho back in the mix?

Will milner lose his place or play deeper?
      What with Can?
What will the impact be for Firmino?

I am really struggling with the conundrum that is Payet. Great underlying stats, beautiful to look at (playing football of course) but giving me a return of 2, 2, 3 and 2! Do I keep the faith (as I should have done with Ozil before switching for Sanchez) or do I get rid?

Currently on wildcard due to Zouma, Silva and Moreno in my team. Any thoughts on who you would have as nailed on players if you where using your WC now? And who are good differentials? Go for Rooney over Kane? Double on Southampton and Chelsea defs? Best keepers (Forster or DeGea?)... Ah the dilemmas of the WC 🙂

Late for the party. Double Leceister defense + Mahrez or 1 Leceister defender + Vardy + Mahrez? Imo it depends on whether Ranieri sees he has a real chance of winning the title so plays cautiously (1-0s and 2-0s hence double Leceister defense could work with the fixtures they have) or he sees that there is no pressure after the hard fixtures have passed and they play more attacking as early in the season.

You can make an argument for both cases. Very tough decision as we are spoilt for options in defense and forwards.

Say there are only 3/4 games played on GW30, firstly would the premier league allow a weekend with such little games, or would they push these games on other weeks? Also, is it worth ditching so many players just to have a complete team on gw30? This would mean losing players that you bought cheap and are now very expensive to buy back (e.g. ozil, kun, kane, alder, etc.)

    Repost from last article!

    DDG (sun)
Bellerin (LEI), Moreno (avl) & Ward (WAT)
Barkley (WBA), Alli (mci), Ozil (LEI) & Mahrez (ars)
Ighalo (cry), Aguero (TOT) (c) & Kane (mci)

Butland (bou), Fuchs (ars), Alderweireld (mci) & Silva (TOT)

    Any ideas? I'm thinking:

    A) DDG -> Forster & Silva -> Payet/Sigurdsson
    B) Silva -> Sigurdsson/Payet & Moreno -> Fonte
    C) Silva -> Lingard & Ighalo -> Costa
    D) Any other noteworthy transfers to make?

Thoughts appreciated. I'm swinging towards B right now.

Quick poll guys: Who is more essential Lukaku or Kane?

Want to transfer one out in Gw 27 to Vardy. Trailing by over 100 points in mini league so tempted to be Maverick.

Any suggestions this week with 2FT £2.2 ITB
Bearing in mind whats around the corner in the next few GW's

    Butland (Ruddy)
    Azpi, Toby, Moreno, Janmaat, Francis
    Ozil, Payet, Maherez, Alli, Arnie
    Igalho, Kun, Kane

You can use it to infer the transfer made from how the money in the bank changes. For example, if it goes from 0.0m to 5.0m you know they've downgraded a player by 5.0m.

I know, so reluctant to bench Firminio at the moment. Especially with us playing villa this weekend..

        Just transferred Vardy in too

Then benching Augero or Mahrez just seems insanity.

I wouldn't bench firmy/kun tbf .. vahrez/alli/payet if you want to play vardy
I have the same dilemma btw , transferred VVD and benching him as I've Siggy seems silly too

Good to go this week or bench Alli instead of Lingard?

I wouldn't bench Alli. Man City's defense are woeful and Tottenham are looking ood going forward.

Martin Atkinson will officiate Arsenal v Leicester. The Gunners have won one and lost five of the last seven he has refereed.

If Arsenal wanna win the league then Sunday is a must win match. Don't care who the referee is winning the match will be decided by the players not who takes control of the match!

Sometimes, you just cant do anything to the refs. Trust me. But at this level, dont think its a big deal to be fair. I just hope LEI win the title. If they win vs ARS and MCI / TOT draw then its GG no RE i believe

      Antonio/Alli/Mahrez/Özil/Firmino
      Agüero/Vardy

I benched Kane for now, but thinking Vardy...?

Nah, still far too many games to go. People underestimating the pressure that will start to build on Leicester - that can affect even the best.

If they beat Arsenal though then they're in an extremely good position (number 1 durr)

Not with a third of the season still to go. As good as Leicester have been, they could still begin to feel the pressure and drop points later on

Not if you think he's gonna outscore him for the next few weeks! Presumably you're set up well enough to handle the blanks in gwk27, and you've got one eye on gwk30.

What do you think of Mahrez as a captain choice this week? He has been known to go on little scoring streaks, 4 Goals in 3 games at the start of the season, 6 Goals in 3 games later on. I know they got dismantled by Arsenal earlier on in the season, but that was partly due to Sanchez going mad. He's not quite in that place at the minute.

Personally, I don't think he's the best bet. Arsenal have kept plenty of clean sheets recently, and prior to the game against City Mahrez hadn't scored for ages.

I wouldn't. Gabriel's now pairing Kosc, Coq likely to start. Mahrez may not blank again (like 1st game this year), but think it's limited upside.

Anyone ever done a draft league? Really interested in doing one next year but alongside the normal game.

Sidenote: Anyone ever watched the TV show "The League" they take their fantasy very seriously (it's American football instead but the thought is there), hilarious show.

Well i wouldnt yet, i would wait 3-4 more games since i do believe they will still be in the lead by 5 points at that time. Bigger cashout.
