Next up, it’s time for our Sky Sports Focus article this Thursday afternoon. As always, we take a look back at the previous action before preparing you for the incoming Gameweek by bringing you the recent run of Man of the Match (MoTM) awards, bonus point beneficiaries, the transfer trends and our Watchlist before casting an eye over the Scout team and our future plans.

Gameweek 31 Man of the Match Awards

Listed below are the players that caught the eye of the Sky Sports reporters from last weekend’s fixtures achieving the Man of the Match award (worth an additional five points).

FixtureMoTM
Tottenham vs ArsenalDavid Ospina
Chelsea vs StokeGiannelli Imbula
Everton vs West HamDimitri Payet
Man City vs Aston VillaSergio Aguero
Newcastle vs BournemouthJoshua King
Southampton vs SunderlandJan Kirchhoff
Swansea vs NorwichGylfi Sigurdsson
Watford vs LeicesterRiyad Mahrez
Crystal Palace vs LiverpoolDejan Lovren
West Brom vs Man UnitedSalomon Rondon

One goalkeeper, two defenders, five midfielders and a couple of forwards grabbed the awards last week. Popular options in Dimitri Payet (15.4%), Sergio Aguero (31.8%) and Riyad Mahrez (40.6%) all earned the gong to considerably boost the average score. Former Fantasy great Gylfi Sigurdsson presents as an enticing option right now. The Swansea number ten has picked up 47 points in his last seven matches at an average of 6.7 points per game and with clashes against Bournemouth and Villa up next, his ownership looks likely to rise.

Gameweek 31 Bonus Points

Five goalkeepers picked up bonus last week. Arsenal’s stand-in stopper David Ospina was the star performer with nine saves and a MoTM helping him to negate the two goals conceded. Petr Cech is now joined by Jack Butland at the top of the pile with 16 bonus points.

In defence, ten players grabbed bonus, six for tackles and four for passes completed. Dejan Lovren was the closest to picking up both, just falling short by 13 completed passes. Stoke full-back Erik Pieters currently leads the way for defenders with 22 bonus points.

In midfield, there were 16 beneficiaries in total: nine for tackling and eight for passes. Manuel Lanzini was the player to pick up both with an all-action display – 81 completed passes and four tackles afforded him an extra four points. Cesc Fabregas is dominating the bonus tables with 52 points overall from passing and tackling, that’s the equivalent of ten goals!

The Transfer Trends

All five players here are without a fixture this time around. Arsenal duo Petr Cech and Laurent Koscielny are both currently sidelined through injury, whilst Southampton skipper Jose Fonte serves a one-match suspension at Stoke. Olivier Giroud and Odion Ighalo, meanwhile, have paid the price for their recent lack of output as Sky managers restructure their frontlines.

Joe Hart and David de Gea have garnered plenty of new owners as a result of the Cech exodus, though the latter is without a fixture this weekend due to United’s cup clash with West Ham. At a price of just 6.2, Dimitri Payet’s value for money is impossible to ignore, whilst Liverpool’s trip to Palace last Sunday looks the likely cause of the Firmino trades. Aguero’s home clash with Villa last week, prior to Saturday’s trip to Norwich, made him an obvious target up top.

Here I aim to highlight a few differential players with low ownership that I think could be good options in the coming weeks to help you climb the rankings. These will be looked at in three specific price brackets to cater for our available budget. Notes
I earned another slight rise in the previous Gameweek as we move into the business end of the season. It was a great Saturday for me due to Sergio Aguero as skipper (28 points), Dimitri Payet (15) and Riyad Mahrez (12), whilst Harry Kane and my new goalkeeper, Joe Hart, also picked up seven points each.

My defence is the biggest let down at present with the three of them combined earning me a net one point! Craig Cathcart is injured but hopefully should be back soon and is so cheap he won’t be going anywhere. Craig Dawson is also an injury doubt after hobbling off last week and denying me a clean sheet but still looks a decent option moving forward, given his goal threat. Eric Dier has been disappointing of late and is just one card short of a ban so he may be the one to go in the future – this is dependent on me having the transfers to spare, though, as captain swaps towards the end of the season are usually the smarter choice for transfers. Having said that, Liverpool and Everton assets are on my radar also for Gameweek 34 onwards, where extra fixtures and decent run-ins make them all the more desirable.

Captain Plan
This week looks a great week for captains, assuming you have Man City, Spurs and Leicester assets. With each team playing on a separate matchday and Leicester featuring on matchday one next Gameweek, it could be a good option to utilise three captains via a transfer to enable you to skipper Sergio Aguero (nor), followed by Harry Kane (avl) and then Jamie Vardy/Riyad Mahrez (NEW), for example. This is, of course, dependant on you not owning these players already and having the spare transfers. I will be choosing one of Kane or Aguero before Thursday night’s deadline and then ending with the armband on Jamie Vardy.

I can't believe all of those looking elsewhere tbh. I'm not even a Kun diehard like so many are.

Good luck to everyone and I won't sulk if I get it wrong, but he's the standout to me.

Norwich have been stingy recently (only conceded 5 in their last 4 games, playing Chelsea, Leicester and West Ham in that time) and City are a bit mediocre away from home, that's where the hesitation comes from.

Yeah, I can't really fault or disagree.

I'm just applying the eye test. Despite Kane's underlying stats I've been quite underwhelmed with his actual performances, barring that imperious finish against Arsenal. Had me screaming the house down frankly!

Kun, on the other hand, has looked noticeably sharper and we know what his haul potential is.

Also, bear in mind that although Kane is not playing tonight it still disrupts and affect the team that right know Thursday evening they are in Germany. Kun is having a nice massage.

If I get shown up I will hold up my hands.

Yeah it's one or the other, I haven't settled on Kane yet, but this rest makes him more appealing.

Yeah, no arguments there. A rested Kane better than a flogged Kane. An even better rested Kun better than both in my eyes, but I you make valid points. It's a judgement call this time around.

As he rightly should. They have a very tricky run to the end the PL season and a 5 point gap is very awkward with only 9 tricky games left.

As a Leicester fan I entirely agree with you, but I'd do exactly the same as Poch if I was him.
      a) The chances for qualifying for the champions league are so much higher in the EPL
      b) It gives key players a rest and so gives them a better chance of winning the EPL
      c) It gives match practice and experience to bench & fringe players

I don't necessarily expect many to agree but there you are.

I don't think Spurs will win the EPL. This is a big opportunity for them to get CL spot and if is obviously not a priority. Poos judgement IMO especially when it's Villa next and then a break

They'd have to qualify then. They would have to finish third to get the same entry as the EL provides.

          I take your point.
I'm also delighted he's rested my FPL players but that is of minor significance in the great scheme of things.
It's also possible he's been leaned on Spurs chairman (Dean??).

That's quite possible. I think they will finish top 4 but I would have thought best team tonight , rest players for Villa would have been the best option.

Spurs are effectively already qualified for CL, trophies are what matter they could have played the youth vs Villa and not risk getting beat by Dortmund otherwise I agree with most of your pts

I agree with this, this side could beat Villa easily, play your strongest squad to try and get through and have a better chance at two trophies.

Poch has absolutely made the correct decision.

You would have to imagine Dortmund are also thinking of their league themselves, and while it's "only Villa", Leicester don't have this distraction, so a win is a necessity. They're running out of time and a 5 point gap is awkward. 9 games left.

..and it isn't as if Kane is out of the squad, he can come on if need be. As long as Spurs get an away goal and don't concede 3 (which they haven't done ALL SEASON), I think they're in good shape.

Also Spurs run in for the rest of the season is quite tricky.

Bournemouth at home 3 days after the 2nd EL leg, then Liverpool away, United at home, Stoke away, WBA at home, Chelsea way, Soton at home and then probably a comfortable Newcastle away on MD38.

Not to mention if they beat Dortmund, you're layering in two more EL legs in there.

Hindsight is lovely, eh? He didn't know that when picking his squad.

They haven't conceded 3 all season. A 2-1 loss is manageable.

What hindsight it's stupidity or over confidence in his squad, in the Epl sure but in Europe it's different losing 1 goal puts you back chasing in the tie.

Dortmund are legit CL side ahead of Spurs full strength side it's just ridiculous

      2. Cradders
        • 10 Years

Didn't Aguero play 390 minutes in a week last week?? and now he has a weeks rest, playing a near full strength side tonight then playing this side Sunday would give them a weeks rest too. Also they haven't conceded 3 all season but they also haven't play a quality European side with a great home record/atmosphere. I'll eat my words if Spurs get something out of this game but that's just what I think

Depends on when you want to WC. If wildcarding soon then you can go siggy but if not then you'd wanna load up on the dgw players from now. Yaya/Silva would be better in that case

Dembele, Dier and Alli are terribly missed. If spurs can keep it to 1 goal, they'll be happy enough.

to be honest I can't get any enthusiasm for the tie, however I think Liverpool will go through - don't think for one minute that they are a better team but I can just see utd letting too many away goals in.

plus utd have the capacity for a truly awful half hour or so, bad enough to throw the whole tie in that time

I think we are the better side but not by much our movement and goals wise where better if Man utd played open football they would be screwed DeGea is what makes their defence look solid

we are just too damn predictable, there's very rarely any risk in the way we play and the movement of the team is almost paint by numbers.
I get your point about us playing that way, it probably helps the defensive record, though i'd partially disagree about the de gea thing - I've owned him most of the season and he doesn't have as many saves as you'd think.

                butland on the other hand!

What do you reckon are our toughest matches in the 9 remaining games? There are several potential banana skins. Do you think we'll do better against the bigger teams coming at us, or the weaker sides prepared to sit back?
