Chris Brunt is one of those players that, more often than not, tends to frustrate as a Fantasy option. By the season end, he’s usually racked up a respectable tally (121 and 130pts in his two Premier League campaigns to date) but the Irishman has a habit of returning points when perhaps least expected.

The start of the season sums him up. The opening game saw Brunt pick up 7 Fantasy Premier League (FPL) points against Man United before going on to return a total of 6 points over his next four gameweeks, despite showdowns with the likes of Swansea and Norwich. It’s almost as if he demands a place in your starting XI week-in, week-out “just in case”, with the notion of form and fixtures typically thrown out the window.

There’s little doubt he has the potential. After eleven gameweeks, the West Brom man sits on 44 points, the same number as Mikel Arteta and Yaya Toure, more than Aaron Ramsey and Ramires, and just a single point behind Samir Nasri. At 5.8, he’s lower in cost than any of the aforementioned midfielders and clearly returns strong value for a mid-priced option- it’s perhaps a test of patience as to whether you can keep the faith when the scoring inevitably dries up.

Using our ICT Index and Opta stats available to members, we analyse his performances so far and, comparing them to last term, look to see just how he’s doing this time round for Roy Hodgson’s Baggies:

@ Katie fair enough, I can't transfer him out this week, so I'll see how he goes and seriously consider a transfer in this regard next week.

@Nomar, as a Packers fan, I'm more inclined to follow a Mike McCarthy theory; if you see potential, persist with it, ala Aaron Rodgers 😉
What you say makes sense though - it's just that I have a gut feeling the budget keepers are gonna start failing people, and keepers like Hart and De Gea will get more love. So like I said, I think maybe I'll give him a week or 2, and if he ails to deliver, I'll certainly make the Vorm in, Ferguson out switch as suggested by you guys.

    RMT plz

1 FT, 0.1 in the bank

    Bego (Ruddy)
    Jones Enrique Wilkinson (Simpson, Monk)
    VDV Yaya Ramsey Mata Pilkington
    Hernandez Ba RVP

I was wondering maybe I could save it till next week, but I'm unsure about my GKs.

    Open to suggestions

Ba to Bendtner maybe? (based on fixtures)

Long term I'd be looking to get rid of Yaya. He's looked a bit more advanced of late but not sure that will last. Silva is a must have on the other hand.

I don't think it's worth transferring a GK unless he's injured for a good period of time - Ruddy could easily get 4 points this weekend for making a load of saves but conceding a couple and there's no such thing as a clean sheet banker this season.

    Morning all....

I held off until now and thinking (2 free changes)

    Bos-Brown
    Petrov-Drenthe

maybe Suarez-? 14 mill available Rooney/Aguero?

People think Suarez will start with all these allegations?

    Cheers

I've brought in Drenthe this GW myself but Eagles was also a temptation because he also has good fixtures (and unlike Petrov is actually in form)

Defo get rid of Boswinga. Sunderland have attractive fixtures also so Brown would be a good choice.

Morning all. I've £2.5m in the bank and am planning to free up more money in order to end up with either 3 top price banging 'em in every week strikers (currently have just RVP and a slightly out of form Adebayor) or a dream midfield by adding Nani (in place of Ramsey) to VDV & Silva alongside two in-form players in the £5-6m bracket.

Which way should I go? Am thinking of sacrificing Kompany for a player around £4.5m with good fixtures to fund it considering the run of games Citeh have the remainder of 2011. (Also have Santos in the £6m defender bracket but considering his ability going forwards and V-man returning to solidify the back four I think he'll prove a good acquisition)

I am not sure of a big name / big price player that seems clearly to have a good run/good form that you/I dont already have...thats the prob! I am looking at a similar change. I am starting to think ManU may be the way to go (I have no coverage atm) but I cant see Aug form ever returning,.,

    Jafa! Hoax Alert!

It's L5's medical spy here. Wish to bring to your attention a certain Balakrisnhna Punuru who has joined the esteemed L5 club. According to past records, he has no chance of an L5. He's only known to cause others a pain in the back/arse cos:

    1) He has 4-5 teams known teams in the same name
    2) Suspected to be JO (majority believe this, but JO might refute)

Surely there are witnesses to this around here!

Re-posted as I put on ancient thread earlier...

    Morning Guys,

Playing WC this week… couple of last minute questions if I may?

    GK

Want a budget to go with Vorm (4.6m or below) Krul would be choice, but have simpson and NEW poor next 3. This Westwood chap, is he likely to have a stay in Sun team? How long is Gordon and Minge out for?

    Def:
Again budget, Wilkinson (stk) was thinking of? What is Stokes back line these says? Are they starting to move Huth to RB to accomodate Shawcross, Woodgate, Upson etc?

What you think on both gents???

GK i'm thinking Hennesey as he rotates well with vorm, also considered kenny,

DEF Wilko should play, he's pretty much pulis first choice rb, but did play lb before when huth played rb (heard this off a stoke fan)

From recent appearances Wilko is fine in the Stoke team, but they have been poor so hard to tell. It could be Shawcross absence, or Pulis could ring the changes and bring in a mindless brute for a mindless brute. Id see it staying, if it wasnt for their crap form Id have gone Wilko too, but thinking Brown now...

No idea about red and white keeper! Feel bad enough thinking of Brown!

I always laugh at that wannabe Lara they've got in their team... so blatently tried to model his whole technique on him. I don't normally mind this, but Lara had such a unique, natural, one-off technique, it seems pretty ridiculous to try and copy it. Just be yourself ffs.

He seems to be Mancini's 3rd best striker. With some difficult fixtures, you'd expect balo & kun to start most games. But you never know...with the UCL fixture list, only Kun seems nailed-on.

its a 50-50 b/w dzek and balo.....dzeko's the more consistent one imo but balotelli can turn it on against the big teams. if i were u i would go with aguero if i had the money. the other two just make u feel uncomfortable.

Sounds as though everyone is expecting Roon to be more advanced again this week? I am not convinced. He played very deep at Everton with Cleverly and Fletcher playing. No Wellbeck may alter this but he was pretty much wide left so I would expect Young to slot in there. Not impossible wellbeck and Hernandez will play up top together and Roon an out and out CM. SAF has had chances to move Roon forward recently but seems determined to keep him in mid. Will be very interesting how this pans out. SAF is full of surprises so I haven't even ruled out Berb returning! I really want a United player for the next few months and I think it will be Cashley Young if fit. He was a real spark early season and even a potential striker when required. It is easy to see why Cleverley will be popular but even at only £5.3m, I am not convinced of his output whilst there are a lot of good options around £6m. And of course Sir Victor Moses at even less 🙂

      +1 about the rooney situation.
i think ill probably keep aguero and kick rooney out. i reckon he'll again start in mid mainly because its an away fixture and fergie has been trying hard to keep his team very tight away from home

      i could be wrong though

plus what everyone seems to be forgetting is that everyone was getting rid of rooney before he was moved into midfield as he wasnt scoring

theyve won the last 2 games with him in midfield so he may not change it

this is why im going with aguero for the next 3 and looking at a switch to rooney for gwk15 if hes back up top and in-form

Aguero is my preferred choice but I hate the fear of him not starting. And the fact he never finishes a game. For £11m I want a certain starter and likely 90 minute man. Actually tempted to keep Suarez on this basis. Although, i would also quite like someone who has a chance of scoring every now and then.

if the other two hadnt played 180mins ovber the break i wouldnt be contemplating it

saying that he always starts, the only 2 games he hasnt were swansea (recently after signing) and the game after he got injured at blackburn

as for the 90mins thing, granted thats annoying but he has the class to score well in 2 of the next 3 games, then its an easy switch to rooney gwk15 if needed

in the 5 games after his hat-trick against bolton he scored

          4, 5, 0, 1, 2

so 3 games upfront he scored 11 pts and that included norwich at home

            Stoke - injured/rested
            Norwich - Got an assist
Liverpool/Man City - Already said above.

Aguerro was actually dropped when City won impressively in Villarreal so I expect him to miss out in Naples too next week. Which makes him a certain starter this week. Plus Mancini cannot take Newcastle too lightly. I predicted the city line-up v Wolves horribly wrong so I just get nervous picking any City player. The Dzeko or Balotelli decision is certainly the one to avoid.

my problem with brunt is that i would have him as a rotating midfielder but it seems he gets points in fixtures you wouldnt expect

for example if id had him he wouldve been on the bench for villa away

Attacking rotation is an interesting anomaly, I had the same idea as you for a while. However I'm veering to the idea of having 3 or 4 mid to cheapish priced players and benching the one with the worst fixture. I think it might offer more flexibility as there is a lot of good value 6m players around. Might be handy having a 5-6m player first off the bench with the amount of rotation at the moment. What do you think Tosey?

well yeh that would be better but having 3 £6m midfielders as opposed to one £6m and two £4.5m's costs u £3m more. id rather have the extra £3m so i can fit 4/5 big hitters in

fair enough. I would never have less than 4 big hitters but having the extra 6m player or two does prevent you from having 5.

Hi guys, my slightly unorthodox team needs a transfer this week, who do you reckon most needs transferring out, and for whom?

    Vorm (Krul)
Brown, Kompany, Evans, J Enrique (Simpson)
    Watson, VDV, Silva (Dyer, Jarvis)
    RVP, Agbon, Suarez
    2.3m in bank.

Seeing as Jarvis, Evans, Agbon, VDV are all potentially low on game time this week, was thinking of either...
    1. Jarvis to Drenthe
    2. Jarvis to Bale
    3. Jarvis to Ramsey
    4. Agbon to Bendtner
    5. Evans to Hibbert

Any thoughts welcome. I'm favouring option 2 at the moment

yep he looks brilliant, apart from injury, I can't see why he drifted in and out of the squad last season.

finally got my team ready for this week:

    vorm

bosingwa, jones, brown(if bossy doesnt start, naylor comes on as 1st sub)

    sess,vdv,brunt,silva

    aguero,sturridge,RVP

looks good enough on paper to qualify for the cup but it never turns out that way in the end.

Your team looks good, I presume you'll give the armband to RVP. Best of luck for the cup.
