England claw back a two-goal deficit as Harry Kane and Jamie Vardy inspire an unlikely England comeback in Berlin. Jack Butland’s role in that win is curtailed as Stoke City and his 27% Fantasy Premier League ownership wait on news on a potential ankle ligament injury…

Butland’s Night Wrecked By Ankle Injury

Stoke City’s Jack Butland was stretchered off at the end of the first half against Germany with an ankle injury. Post-match reports have suggested that the Potter’s stopper may have suffered ligament damage, with Roy Hodgson confirming that Butland’s setback will be assessed….

“It’s an ankle injury but we don’t know the extent. When you’re talking about ligaments, there’s always some kind of worry but we’ll assess him.”

The Scout Says: Given that he’s the highest owned (27%) Fantasy Premier League (FPL) keeper, Butland now looks destined to suffer significant sales with is current 5.4 price tag set to plummet. Despite a superb season as the Stoke number one, Butland was already looking vulnerable for the season run-in given current form (one clean sheet in nine outings) and Stoke’s testing schedule (SWA, liv, TOT, mci). More significantly, he seems destined to give way to double Gameweek 34 signings once Wildcards are in play. With Joe Hart and Petr Cech yet to return to the fray, Butland’s injury would likely promote interest in Liverpool’s Simon Mignolet, Everton’s Joel Robles and Manchester United’s David de Gea as the choice options between the sticks for the coming weeks. Despite this, prior to Butland’s injury scare, he was acquired by more FPL managers heading into Gameweek 32 than any other keeper (21,212).

Kane and Vardy Fire Warning Shots

A pair of superbly taken goals by Harry Kane and Jamie Vardy steered England to an unlikely comeback. The Leicester striker’s sublime flick represented his first goal in six starts in all competitions, while Kane’s accurate drive was his sixth strike in his last five starts. Dele Alli failed to find the net for England but shimmered throughout and was arguably England’s most impressive performer.

The Scout Says: The performances of Kane, Vardy and Alli on the international stage underlines that fact that the decision to maximise double Gameweek 34 acquisitions comes packaged with significant risk. Together with Riyad Mahrez, these established FPL assets enjoy favourable Gameweek 35 home fixtures with Spurs hosting West Brom and Leicester facing Swansea. Given the motivation and confidence, the decision to shed all four appears to represent a major gamble.

Ozil Assists As Germany Cave In

While England’s comeback stole the headlines, Mesut Ozil played his part for Germany on the night, laying on the assist for Toni Kroos’ opener.

The Scout Says: Following a run of three consecutive league blanks, Ozil has suffered significant sales with almost 58,000 opting to show the playmaker the door in the current Gameweek. That has seen his ownership slip to 43% with his price dropping to 9.7 having stood at 10.0 back in Gameweek 29. However, with Arsenal facing three home fixtures in the next three Gameweeks (WAT, whm, CPL/WBA), Ozil’s stock is on the rise. With a points per game average (6.2) that’s second only to Leicester’s Riyad Mahrez and far superior to team-mate Alexis Sanchez (4.7), the German sits atop our Watchlist rankings heading into a spell that will decide Arsenal’s participation in the title race.

Dembele Injury Scare For Spurs

Mousa Dembele trained for Belgium amid reports that he’s suffered a flare-up of an ankle complaint. Dembele will likely be assessed again prior to the friendly with Portugal on Tuesday.

The Scout Says: Tottenham will be concerned that these latest reports could lead to a further absence for Dembele. The classy midfielder has established himself as a key component of their title challenge, not least for his apparent impact on the role and output of both Dele Alli and Harry Kane. The Belgian recently missed Gameweeks 16, 20, 27 and 28 through injury, during which time Alli and Kane recorded just a single goal between them. Those seeking to hold the Spurs pairing will be keenly monitoring Dembele’s fitness in light of this recent report.

Mane Maintains Recent Form

Sadio Mane followed up his brace of goals against Liverpool in Gameweek 31 by providing both assists as Senegal beat Niger 2-0.

The Scout Says: Mane’s spurt of goals and assists typifies a player who has proved a hugely frustrating Fantasy asset this term. Priced at 7.3 in the FPL, the winger has struggled to cement his Southampton starting role but could now be granted further minutes as Ronald Koeman bids to revive the Saints’ attacking threat. Southampton’s next four fixtures (lei, NEW, eve, avl) could offer strong potential for returns, yet the absence of a double Gameweek serves as a major deterrent and will likely ensure that Mane continues to be largely ignored as an FPL option.

Niasse On the Scoresheet

Oumar Niasse notched for Senegal as they ran out winners in their African Cup of Nations qualifier.

The Scout Says: Niasse’s strike will send a message to Roberto Martinez and could see the attacker edge closer to his first Premier League start. Classified as a 6.5 forward, Niasse has so far been limited to just 18-minutes off the bench in Gameweeks 29 and 30. While he is unlikely to appeal as a target, Niasse’s impact on the pitch time of Everton’s other attacking options requires consideration. The Toffees will endure nine fixtures over the remaining seven Gameweeks, with double fixtures in Gameweeks 33, 34 and 37 ensuring that we’ll see rotation at play. Certainly, those Fantasy managers intrigued by the differential prospects of Aaron Lennon (four goals and one assist in six) will be wary of Niasse, Gerard Deulofeu and Kevin Mirallas curtailing his pitch-time. As such, Ross Barkley appears to represent the most secure accompaniment to Romelu Lukaku, yet the fact he’s only delivered attacking returns (brace against Newcastle United) in one of his last 10 starts is a concern for would-be investors.

Most games where that doesn't happen have at least 4 goals. A big exception though was Arsenal 0 - 0 Liverpool where Monreal got 36 BPS and only 2 bonus points as Cech got 8 saves and 37 BPS.

I personally think bonus points should be awarded on a threshold basis rather than on the three highest

So if you get over 40 you get 3. 30 2. 25 1. And below that nothing

      Thresholds open to debate obviously.

        • 12 Years
        9 years, 10 months ago

Hmmm maybe, but then you get 6-0 blowouts where nearly the whole team are getting in the bonus points. It's an interesting idea.

Aguero has both the lowest and highest BPS scores of the season bookending the league with -10 BPS vs Tottenham and 121 BPS vs Newcastle.

Great work! BPS is always something I should look closer at.

Personally I dislike the bonus point system. For starters I feel that goals, assists and clean sheets shouldn't be included and that these points should be "performance" points.

I also don't like the way it's kind of limited to three players per game which can give out slightly unfair results across a day. For example, with this system you can have a player score 3 goals get less bonus points than a player who gets just one, depending what else happens in the match.

Interesting idea to remove assists cs and goals from bonus point allocation.

As you say these outputs have already been rewarded so maybe the all round play should be rewarded in isolation.

Not sure if I'd like that as it would end up wasting a lot of points on the likes of Gareth Barry who nobody wants to be looking at in their teams.

They could look at bonus pt thresholds though to reward all players that do well in bps regardless of what team they are with. Some defenders and midfielders suffer badly due to having overly dominant players in their teams which means they get less bonus than some weaker players in weaker teams.

Got 2 FT so will be replacing Butland with DGW34 keeper who has a GW35 too.

    Anyone considering going without Aguero?

Thinking of selling Aguero and keeping Kane.

    Kane Lukaku Martial/Mitrovic frontline.

Perhaps bringing in Silva/YYT for "cover" since I feel there aren't too many stand out mids.

Going Aguero until GW36 then will other get Kane back or get Costa for DGW. Still think Aguero will out score Kane from now till GW36

    Morning Dz,

very impressed by Kane yesterday, deciding to keep him in the WC team,
finally a draft im sorta happy with

    GW33 team

    DDG , Elliot
    Simpson Gabriel Dann Sakho Moreno
    Mahrez Barkley Ozil Payet Firmino
    Lukaku Aguero Kane

Transfer Dann to Monreal for gw 34
only 3 players missing gw 35

So have flexibility in terms of injuries etc. Not sure about double liverpool defense but great fixtures in 33 and 35.

Personally I'd keep Dann as he'e one of the few Palace players who look like scoring and Palace have to get a win out of one of these next few games to be safe.

You don't get Dann for CS though, do you!

You get him because he's one of Palace's top scorers.

Up to you what you do with your team though.

              No worries.

I'm tempted to get Dann simply because I think he's going to score at least once over the next 4GW's.

Palace are in freefall and they need a win. I think at some point they'e going to go behind in a game and have to pour forward to try and get an equaliser.

The Norwich game in GW33 looks like the one. Capable of scoring against Everton too.

My aim like a lot of others on here is to wildcard on 33 & BB on 34. But does this mean

    2. Wildcard the following week

    3. Bench Boost the following week

    Morning all,

While I appreciate the difficulty in making up a double gameweek team I've seen quite a few with (in my opinion) very risky choices.Surely it defeats the object if a player doesn't start twice. Are people aware of the gambles they may be taking?

Some of the risks i've seen so far... Rojo, Sakho, Gabriel, Clichy, Jagielka, Sturridge, Wellbeck, Wickham, Rashford

Any I've missed? Also am I right in trying to avoid these?

I have never been so attached to player as i am to Mahrez. Had him in since day 1, and the thought of getting rid of him on a WC makes me physically ill.

Any other players in past years you've had undying loyalty to?

Lol no worries. Funny enough Mahrez is the only single GW player I think I'm going to keep.

Point taken on price. I guess some of my concern is directed at the gameweeks after GW34. There are still 4 gameweeks to go after with very few transfers. I'd be a bit worried about being stuck with 2/3 players who aren't nailed on.

I don't know about the others, but I have Rojo and Gabriel.

My thinking is I can use the extra 1.5m and 2m over Smalling and Kosc elsewhere and improve the team.

So at that price, it's worth the risk. It's not like they're not first choice now.

Rotation is bound to happen, but that happens to any team, especially those with larger squads. And yes, these players are more prone to it.

But when you look at the fixtures, even if the worst case scenario they do just play 1 game over the DGW, so say only Rojo vs AVL and Gabriel vs WBA, I really can't see other both DGW and SGW players at that price point who have better fixtures and form.

And they will play the weeks after too. Arsenal still got good fixtures in them the following week which means I can double up their defense, and Rojo still got an upcoming DGW.

      So yeah, it's a calculated risk 🙂

Fair points. I'm thinking of taking a risk or two. When looking at doubles my golden rule has always been go for ones you're sure will play twice. They way I look at it is if they may not play twice you may as well just look at some single options, from Leicester/Spurs for example.

        1. Koflok

    A) Stick with Kane and Alli who have a fixture in gw35.
    B) Swap for Sanchez and Deeney and possibly play 451 in gw35 and do without Kane until the end

Okay these past days I've been losing sleep to come to this conclusion.
Not set on stones so feel free to disagree. But I really hope I can sleep peacefully tonight

[1. Elliot + Bellerin is better Cech + Simpson.]

•) I have Fuchs too so it's spreading the risk on Leicester defense, and an extra DGW player is always nice - even if it is a Newcaslte GK.
•) Also Bellerin is just exciting to own and might outscore the extra CS Leicester potentially have over Newcastle

    [2. Coutinho over Firmino]

•) Firmino's return will drop with Sturridge back in the side and him not playing in his preferred false 9 position.
•) He got 'just' 1 assist in a 6-0 victory where Sturridge and him starts, and also 1 goal in 5 cup games they both start.

[3. Keeping Kane for the next 2 at least]

•) I can either keep Kane or punt on Sturridge's 2 home fixtures and save a FT on GW 34.
•) But Kane's form is too good with underlying stats backing him up, and the opponent is not as difficult as it is on paper.
•) Then I can switch to Sturridge or whoever if he's injured - or keeping Kane through the DGW.

[4. It's better to have 10 players on GW 35 than taking a -8 pts hit to get Alli]

•) Potentially I'm gonna play only 10 players on GW 35 if I do the Bolasie punt and then -> Lanzini/Antonio on GW 34.
•) I need the 3 FTs from GW 35 to get 11 players for GW 37. So effectively transferring Alli in - and out again back to Antonio - are hits.
•) Alternatively, if I don't go Bolasie I can play Ozil (whm) and have Alli on GW35 just for a -4pts hit. Still considering it.

    ___

    That is all. Carry on

It helps to get it all out thats for sure

Definitely is. Even if no one is replying it's better than to argue with yourself inside your head 😀

I'm still having doubt with Kane too. So tempted with Sturridge based on his fixures and how much of a goalscoring machine he is, but I just got no balls to let Kane go at the moment.

Lucky there's still another week of tinkering.

      Ok.

Agree with 2 and 3 definitely.

Not sure on any Newcastle players. They need wins now so it's not like they can sit back and park 'ye olde bus' to try and go for 0-0's.

Conversely, though, they can't score so may have to try and win games 1-0 by parking bus and hope to hit teams on the counter.

Not pretty whichever way you look at it.

Ah yeah, I mean I'm not too confident on Newcastle. I was thinking Leicester can get 2 more CS out of them.

So many potentially good options and opinions. I think this could be the season to see the biggest end of year swings in ML places and OR rankings.

Can we really dump Mahrez and Kane with good fixtures as well?

It's exciting isn't it! Haven't have this much fun in FPL for years.

Definitely these past 2 weeks has been the most fun (and frustrating with all the permutations) I've had all season long.

I know these are a dime a dozen but my developing WC plan:

    De Gea Robles

    Bellerin Sakho Smalling Simpson Gabriel

    Mahrez Ozil Barkley Payet Alli

    Martial Aguero Lukaku

    34: Barkley > Cout
    35: 1FT, field 10
    36: TBC

Might just be me, but keeping simpson over a dgw player has very little reward/ same with Alli

Keeping Mahrez instead of Alli if price permits?

Keeping both Alli and Mahrez I think

Hmm when to WC is now tricky, was set on 33, probably still will, but 32 is tempting, to gain an extra FT later

Exactly my thinking, Butland a doubt, if he is ruled out i think ill end of Wildcarding. im set on keeping mahrez, but have not even considered Alli, so many good cheap options, id rather have Lanzini playing twice in 37 than having alli around for 35

Thoughts on Gabriel over Bellerin as a Sanchez/Ozil enabler? Worth a risk or too risky. Would probably allow Sanchez, Ozil, Mahrez, Payet, Firmino, Kane, Aguero, Lukaku.

yes, if gabriel misses one game, it's bearable, where as not owning one of those players and he scores. well thats just unbearable to think about.

defs worth. i think a lot of people are in the same boat

They'll have 3 games in a week so someone is surely going to get rested, so it may well be moot.

That said, Gabriel appears to be first choice CB over Mert and he's already scored this season so we know he's more of a goal threat that Bellerin.

If cash is tight or you want Sanchez as well as Ozil I see no problem with getting Gabriel.

    WC DGW33 team

    Eliot - Robles
    Bellerin - Smalling - Sakho - Dann - Simpson
    Ozil - Payet - Firmino - Mahrez - Barkley
    Aguero - Lukaku - Mitrovic

    But instead of combo
    A - Aguero + Firminho + Smalling + Dann + Simpson

    would you pick

    B - Aguero + Sanchez + Rojo + Ward + Simpson
    or
    C - Sturridge + Sanchez + Smaling + Rojo + Dann

This is my thought process too.....Rashford and Lingard are good enablers but not really guaranteed to play both games. Think Martial is the only choice really

I think it's a case of who do you drop, no real midfield options and you will want Lukaku and Aguero I presume, so it comes down to either keeping Kane or ditching for Martial/Rashford

      1. The Left Duke #3
        • 11 Years

100% ditching Kane. Kun Lukaku and Deeney/Martial is what I'm looking at now.

Just Rojo for me I think.

Only real option is Mata and I'd rather have Alexis, Barkley, Firmino etc.

With Rooney back, Rashford will probs end up back on the bench.

Now that Butland has been injured I don't feel so bad about my Hart injury. Between the pair of them they covered over 40% of the teams in the top 10K. Also Butland was transferred in by 21K managers this GW.

Morning and happy Easter all! Full of cold here crashed on the sofa so its time to tinker!

What the hell do I do here? No funds for Luka, 1FT left. Wildcard this week or hold it another week?

Need to sacrifice one of my big hitters but I'm scared of making a big mistake... Finally got on track and jumped 500k in 3 weeks so I'm a bit nervy!

    Forster/McCarthy
    Bellerin Wimmer Huth Nyom Cook

Fair enough. I've drafted teams losing Kane or Aguero. Can't bring myself to sell Alexis at all!

        Kane>Luka
        Vardy>Mitrovic
        Forster>Robels
        McC>Elliott

Prob get Antonio over Payet and load up at the back.
